We present the design, fabrication, and characterization of a dual polarization, mode-selective photonic lantern(PL) spatial multiplexer supporting three fiber modes (LP_(01), LP^(a)_(11), LP^(b)_(11)), measuring only...We present the design, fabrication, and characterization of a dual polarization, mode-selective photonic lantern(PL) spatial multiplexer supporting three fiber modes (LP_(01), LP^(a)_(11), LP^(b)_(11)), measuring only 300μm in length, for converting between three single-mode input sources and a single three-mode optical fiber. The PL is fabricated directly on the three sources, in this case three cores of a multi-core fiber, using a commercial two-photon polymerization-based 3D nanoprinter. Despite the diminutive size and high index contrast of the polymer core/air cladding waveguides, we observed low insertion loss multiplexing (less than-1.7 d B), low polarization dependent loss (less than-0.25 dB), mode dependent loss of-1.7 d B, low wavelength dependence, and mode group crosstalk of less than-16 dB. We demonstrate mode group multiplexed transmission using our mode-selective multiplexer/demultiplexer pair and a short three-mode fiber link in an on-off keying intensity modulation/direct detection(IM/DD) experiment, recovering two 12.5 Gb/s signals without MIMO processing.展开更多
Ozone depletion induced by anthropogenic gases has been increasing the transmission of solar ultraviolet-B radiation(UV-B, 280–315 nm) through the atmosphere, which may impact the fitness of marine invertebrates in i...Ozone depletion induced by anthropogenic gases has been increasing the transmission of solar ultraviolet-B radiation(UV-B, 280–315 nm) through the atmosphere, which may impact the fitness of marine invertebrates in intertidal and shallow waters. To our knowledge, however, the responses of fitness related behaviors to UV-B radiation at different intensities have been rarely studied in marine invertebrates. For the first time, the present study investigated the eff ects of exposure of one hour to UV-B radiation at different intensities on foraging behavior, Aristotle's lantern reflex and righting behavior of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius. Exposure of one hour to UV-B radiation at 10 μW/cm^2 significantly reduced foraging behavior. An intensity dependent eff ect of exposure to UV-B radiation was found in the duration of the Aristotle's lantern reflex. Exposure to UV-B radiation at 20 μW/cm^2 for one hour significantly reduced the duration of the Aristotle's lantern reflex, but 10 μW/cm^2 did not. There was no significant diff erence of righting response time among sea urchins exposed to 0, 10 and 20 μW/cm^2 for one hour. To test potential carryover ef fects, the behavioral traits were re-measured three days later. We found significant carryover eff ects of UV-B radiation on foraging time and righting response time, but not on the duration of the Aristotle's lantern reflex. The present study indicates that a brief exposure of one hour to UV-B radiation can significantly aff ect the duration of Aristotle's lantern reflex, righting response time and foraging behavior of a sea urchin, although the immediate impacts and carryover eff ects were highly trait dependent. This study provides new information into the behavioral responses of marine invertebrates to exposure to UV-B radiation. Future studies should be carried out to investigate long-term carryover eff ects of UV-B radiation on behavioral and physiological fitness related traits.展开更多
This study presents a high-accuracy,all-fber mode division multiplexing(MDM)reconstructive spectrometer(RS).The MDM was achieved by utilizing a custom-designed 3×1 mode-selective photonics lantern to launch disti...This study presents a high-accuracy,all-fber mode division multiplexing(MDM)reconstructive spectrometer(RS).The MDM was achieved by utilizing a custom-designed 3×1 mode-selective photonics lantern to launch distinct spatial modes into the multimode fber(MMF).This facilitated the information transmission by increasing light scattering processes,thereby encoding the optical spectra more comprehensively into speckle patterns.Spectral resolution of 2 pm and the recovery of 2000 spectral channels were accomplished.Compared to methods employing single-mode excitation and two-mode excitation,the three-mode excitation method reduced the recovered error by 88%and 50%respectively.A resolution enhancement approach based on alternating mode modulation was proposed,reaching the MMF limit for the 3 dB bandwidth of the spectral correlation function.The proof-of-concept study can be further extended to encompass diverse programmable mode excitations.It is not only succinct and highly efcient but also well-suited for a variety of high-accuracy,high-resolution spectral measurement scenarios.展开更多

Under the background of cultivating the core accomplishment in the discipline, the aesthetic tendency and humanistic care of the core accomplishment have become the important objectives of the art teaching practice. For high school art, combining the cognitive characteristics of high school students with the curriculum progress, the cultivation of core literacy is integrated into the curriculum content. Besides cultivating students' artistic appreciation and painting ability, the relationship between knowledge and skills, sensibility and values is dialectically viewed, and it has become a general trend to cultivate students' art literacy from multiple perspectives. These pumps trip frequently. Every time the pump trips, it means that the workers have to open the pump for cleaning a polymer. By analyzing the packing pump internal structure and discussing the basic reasons of the failure of the pump, we find that our chemical medium is so viscous that some of these pumps are blocked. It is important to cal- culate the pressure value of the flushing water and to determine the available pressure. Apparently, the more the flushing water increases ,the less the pump is blocked by Latex. The methods for fixing it are to change its internal structure and to add an additional cooling(flushing)water throttle plate. The results show that its tripped frequency changes from twice or 3 times per day to once per month. The effect is extending the running cycle of these pumps.展开更多
