The difference of history development, cultural tradition, social economy and geographic environment naturally produces the thinking mode with the national features. The different features certainly influence the language expression. It is because language is not only the main carrier of thinking but also the important expression form. So to well study the features of thinking mode is of great importance to translation, foreign language teaching and cross-cultural communication.展开更多

This interaction needs whole language in which language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing; associated knowledge of vocabulary, meaning, syntax, etc.; and also, thinking skills are interwoven. This means that language should be kept whole and "if language isn't kept whole, it isn't language anymore" (Rigg, 1991, p. 522, cited in Richards & Rodgers, 2001, p. 109). In English as a Second Language/English Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) learning settings, improvement in one skill can affect the development of other skills. A particular course may highlight certain skills, but if the teacher is creative or specific tasks and problems are used in language learning settings, learners are provided with the opportunity to improve multiple, integrated skills. This paper aims at elaborating on critical thinking approach to language learning and introducing practical ideas for helping teachers to integrate language and thinking skills. It introduces 3 critical thinking activities (Dialogue journals, reading logs and literacy portfolios), and also discusses how implementing them can serves as a way to integrate language skills. It also maintains that engaging learners in these activities helps them use authentic materials and solve problems of their own interest that in turn has a positive effect on student's motivation.展开更多

It is pointed out the widespread problem reflected in their writing is that the learners are lack of the consciousness of the thinking differences between Chinese and English, and a negative Chinese transfer brings about expressing barriers. Five main lexical problems are presented to illustrate. It is suggested that the learners' awareness of the thinking differences be raised so as to improve language output.展开更多

Recently, there is a national notice about the forbidding of using"神马","PK"and "浮云" in the composition of Chinese Subject while attending the University Entrance Examination. Some linguists are wondering shall the orthodox language absorb all of them. Should the local legislation do anything about the protection of language and characters? In this modern world, people use email, Facebook, Twitter, and many other social network sites for exchanging information. People lose their valuable time misspelling and retyping, and some people are not happy to type large sentences because they face unnecessary words or grammatical issues. So, for this reason, word predictive systems help to exchange textual information more quickly, easier, and comfortably for all people. These systems predict the next most probable words and give users to choose of the needed word from these suggested words. Word prediction can help the writer by predicting the next word and helping complete the sentence correctly. This research aims to forecast the most suitable next word to complete a sentence for any given context. In this research, we have worked on the Bangla language. We have presented a process that can expect the next maximum probable and proper words and suggest a complete sentence using predicted words. In this research, GRU-based RNN has been used on the N-gram dataset to develop the proposed model. We collected a large dataset using multiple sources in the Bangla language and also compared it to the other approaches that have been used such as LSTM, and Naive Bayes. But this suggested approach provides excellent exactness than others. Here, the Unigram model provides 88.22%, Bi-gram model is 99.24%, Tri-gram model is 97.69%, and 4-gram and 5-gram models provide 99.43% and 99.78% on average accurateness. We think that our proposed method profound impression on Bangla search engines.展开更多

It examines four aspects of higher order thinking viz metacognition, locus of control, self-efficacy and intrinsic values. The study involves a teaching intervention to provide empirical evidence to show that higher order thinking is improved when it is in the learning environment: (1) Provides opportunities for negotiation, shared control, critical voice, personal relevance and uncertainty; and (2) encourage language use in interacting, communicating and constructing meanings. The sample consisted of 77 accounting college students in Malaysia, randomly grouped into the traditional lecture style classroom and the transformative classroom. Four self-report questionnaires were used to measure higher order thinking and to assess whether students' perceptions of their learning environment. Split Plot Analysis of Variance (SPANOVA) and t-tests were used to test 3 hypotheses formulated for the study. The results show that when learning environment simulate the true arena for transformative learning and provides ample opportunities to use language, higher order thinking can be empowered.展开更多
