Two practical crawlspace heating systems introduced in detached houses have been chosen as a field study. One is the crawlspace warm air heating system and the other is the crawlspace hot water circulation system. Based on the field study result, by using the simulation sol, ware, THERB, the effectiveness of the crawlspace warm air heating system has been examined. The effect of the factors, such as the wind amount circulating between crawlspace and indoor space, foundation insulation condition, and heat amount into the crawlspace, on the indoor thermal environment has been analyzed. Based on these analyses, the measured crawlspace heating system can make the average temperature of the living room above 20℃. These two houses have excellent thermal environment. According to the simulating result, heat amount input into crawlspace, which can make comfortable indoor thermal environment, for every month in heating period has been roughly concluded, and they are 600 W in December and March and 800 W in February and January, respectively. 展开更多

An Analysis of Heat Explosion for Thermally Insulated and Conducting Systems

In the scope of material science, it is well understood that mechanical behavior of a material is temperature dependent. The converse is also true and for specific loading cases contributes to a unique thermal failure mechanism known as “heat explosion”. The goal for this paper is to improve the mathematical models for predicting heat explosion by using a specific case of the Fourier heat transfer system that focuses on thermoviscoelastic properties of materials. This is done by using a computational analysis to solve for an internal heat parameter that determines thermal failure at a critical value. This critical value is calculated under conditions either accounting for or negating the effect of heat dissipated by the material. This model is an improvement on existing models because it accounts for material specific properties and in doing so limits mathematical assumptions of the system. By limiting the assumptions in the conditions of the model, the model becomes more accurate and useful in regards to material design. 展开更多

In recent years,there has been a growing global demand for carbon neutrality and energy efficiency,which are expected to become long-term trends.In the field of architecture,an effective approach to achieve this is to reduce heat loss in buildings.Vacuum insulation panels(VIPs),a type of high-performance insulation material,have been increasingly utilised in the construction industry and have played an increa-singly important role as their performance and manufacturing processes continue to improve.This paper provides a review of the factors affecting the thermal conductivity of VIPs and presents a detailed overview of the research progress on core materials,barrier films,and getters.The current research status of VIPs is summarised,including their thermal conductivity,service life,and thermal bridging effects,as well as their applications in the field of architecture.This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding for relevant practitioners on the factors influencing the thermal conductivity of VIPs,and based on which,measures can be taken to produce VIPs with lower thermal conductivity and longer service life. 展开更多

Perfluoroisobutyronitrile(C_(4)F_(7)N)is recognised as the next-generation dielectric medium for eco-friendly gas-insulated equipment(GIE).However,there is gas metal incompatibility in strong electromagnetic environments and environmentally friendly insulating gas atmospheres that endangers the operational safety and service life of GIE.Here,a solvent-induced grain boundary reconstruction method was proposed to prepare corrosion-resistant copper rapidly.Accordingly,the partial dischargeinduced gas-metal interaction was simulated and the corrosion resistance properties of copper were evaluated.Additionally,the gas-solid interaction mechanism was investigated and the improvement mechanism of the proposed method on the stability of the gas-solid interface was discussed.Related results provide a reference for the development and application reliability of C_(4)F_(7)N-based eco-friendly GIE. 展开更多

In order to support the physical research on the EAST tokamak,a new positive ion source with designed beam energy of 120 keV was proposed to be developed.Accelerator structure is one of the key components of the ion source.Through the finite element analysis method,the electrostatic analyses of insulators and grid plates were carried out,the material and structure parameters of insulators were determined.The maximum electric field around each insulator is about 4 kV/mm,and the maximum electric field between grids is about 14 kV/mm,which can meet the 120 keV withstand voltage holding.The insulation system for the positive ion source accelerator with 120 keV is designed,and the connection and basic parameters of insulators and support flanges are analyzed and determined. 展开更多

Electron-hole interactions play a crucial role in determining the optoelectronic properties of materials,and in lowdimensional systems this is especially true due to the decrease of screening.In this review,we focus on one unique quantum phase induced by the electron-hole interaction in two-dimensional systems,known as“exciton insulators”(EIs).Although this phase of matter has been studied for more than half a century,suitable platforms for its stable realization remain scarce.We provide an overview of the strategies to realize EIs in accessible materials and structures,along with a discussion on some unique properties of EIs stemming from the band structures of these materials.Additionally,signatures in experiments to distinguish EIs are discussed. 展开更多

A novel lateral insulated gate bipolar transistor on a silicon-on-insulator substrate SOI-LIGBT with a special low-doped P-well structure is proposed.The P-well structure is added to attach the P-body under the channel so as to reduce the linear anode current degradation without additional process.The influence of the length and depth of the P-well on the hot-carrier HC reliability of the SOI-LIGBT is studied.With the increase in the length of the P-well the perpendicular electric field peak and the impact ionization peak diminish resulting in the reduction of the hot-carrier degradation. In addition the impact ionization will be weakened with the increase in the depth of the P-well which also makes the hot-carrier degradation decrease.Considering the effect of the low-doped P-well and the process windows the length and depth of the P-well are both chosen as 2 μm. 展开更多

Effective thermal control systems are essential for the reliable working of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) in many applications. A novel spray cooling loop system with integrated sintered porous copper wick (SCLS-SPC) is proposed to meet the requirements of higher device level heat fluxes and the harsh environments in some applications such as hybrid, fuel cell vehicles and aerospace. Fuzzy logic and proportional-integral-derivative (PID) policies are applied to adjust the electronic temperature within a safe working range. To evaluate the thermal control effect, a mathematical model of a 4-node thermal network and pump are established for predicting the dynamics of the SCLS-SPC. Moreover, the transient response of the 4 nodes and vapor mass flowrate under no control, PID and Fuzzy-PID are numerically investigated and discussed in detail. 展开更多

To study active heat insulation roadway in high temperature mines,the typical high temperature roadway of−965 m in Zhujidong Coal Mine of Anhui,China,is selected as prototype.The ANSYS numerical simulation method is used for sensitivity analysis of heat insulation layer with different thermal conductivity and thickness,as well as surrounding rock with different thermal conductivity and temperature on a heat-adjusting zone radius,surrounding rock temperature field and wall temperature.The results show that the heat-adjusting zone radius will entirely be in the right power index relationship to the ventilation time.Decrease in thermal conductivity and increase in thickness of insulation layer can effectively reduce the disturbance of airflow on the surrounding rock temperature,hence,beneficial for decreasing wall temperature.This favourable trend significantly decreases with ventilation time,increase in thermal conductivity and temperature of surrounding rock,heat-adjusting zone radius,surrounding rock temperature field,and wall temperature.Sensitivity analysis shows that the thermal physical properties of surrounding rock determine the temperature distribution of the roadway,hence,temperature of surrounding rock is considered as the most sensitive factor of all influencing factors.For the spray layer,thermal conductivity is more sensitive,compared to thickness.It is concluded that increase in the spray layer thickness is not as beneficial as using low thermal conductivity insulation material.Therefore,roadway preferential consideration should be given to the rocks with low temperature and thermal conductivity.The application of the insulation layer has positive significance for the thermal environment control in mine roadway,however,increase in the layer thickness without restriction has a limited effect on the thermal insulation. 展开更多

Atmospheric exposure tests including two experimental stages of high temperature-spraying water cycle and heating-refrigeration cycle were carried out on three currently used ETIS of expanded polystyrene(EPS) board,polystyrene granule mortar and polyurethane foam in order to study the weatherablility of external thermal insulation system(ETIS).The change rules of adhesive strength were hereby studied at different time period of atmospheric exposure tests.The experimental results show that the adhesive strength of three kinds of ETIS changes a little during high temperature-spraying water cycle,but the adhesive strength of ETIS with EPS board decreases significantly after heating-refrigeration cycle.The lowering rate of adhesive strength with painting finishes is obviously faster than that of tile finishes for ETIS of EPS board during heating-refrigeration cycle.The weatherability of ETIS with EPS board is worse than the other two,and ETIS of polystyrene granule mortar and polyurethane foam are more suitable than ETIS of EPS board in cold area. 展开更多

A new insulation system with inorganic A-B-A insulators was proposed to improve the surface flashover performance in vacuum. Inorganic A-B-A insulator samples of Mo/Al2O3 cermet-Al2O3 ceramic-Mo/Al2O3 cermet were prepared, in which the conductivity and permittivity of the Mo/Al2O3 cermets were controlled through different amount of metallic molybdenum powder added. The effects of both conductivity and permittivity of Mo/Al2O3 cermets on the DC and impulse surface flashover voltage in vacuum were experimentally investigated. The result showed that the DC and impulse surface flashover voltage were improved by 52% and 95%, respectively. For the distribution of electric field, two triple junctions, i.e., vacuum-layer A-cathode (TJ1) and vacuum-layer A-layer B (TJ2) were prepared with the introduction of layer A into the A-B-A insulation system. Based on the electric field distribution obtained via electrostatic field simulation and Maxwell-Wagner three-layer model, the electric field of T J1 decreases while that of T J2 increases with the increase in conductivity and permittivity of layer A under applied DC and impulse voltage, respectively. Therefore, the improvement of surface flashover performance of A-B-A insulators has been reasonably explained. 展开更多

Bio-based polyurethane foam has attracted increasing attentions due to eco-friendliness and fossil feedstock issues.However,the inherent flammability limits its application in different fields.Herein,we demonstrate a green bio-based flame-retardant system to fabricate polyurethane foam composite with durable flame retardancy,smoke suppression,and thermal insulation property.In this system,the green bio-based polyol(VED)with good reactivity and compatibility plays a role of flame retardant and EG acts as a synergistic filler.As a result,the LOI value of foam composite increased to 30.5 vol.%and it achieved a V-0 rating in the UL-94 vertical burning test.Additionally,the peak heat release rate(pHRR)and the total smoke production(TSP)decreased by 66.1%and 63.4%,respectively.Furthermore,the foam composite maintained durable flame retardancy after accelerated thermal aging test,whose thermal-insulating property was maintained even after being treated in high-humidity environment with 85%R.H.for a week.This work provides a facile strategy for durable flame retardancy and long-term thermal insulation performance,and creates opportunities for the practical applications of bio-based foam composites. 展开更多

An X-band magnetically insulated transmission line oscillator (MILO) is designed and investigated numerically and experimentally for the first time. The X-band MILO is optimized in detail with KARAT code. In simulation, the X-band MILO, driven by a 720 kV, 53 kA electron beam, comes to a nonlinear steady state in 4.0 ns. High-power microwaves (HPM) of TEM mode is generated with an average power of 4.1 GW, a frequency of 9.3 GHz, and power conversion efficiency of 10.870 in durations of 0-40 ns. The device is fabricated according to the simulation results. In experiments, when the voltage is 400 kV and the current is 50 kA, the radiated microwave power reaches about 110 MW and the dominating frequency is 9.7GHz. Because the surfaces of the cathode end and the beam dump are destroyed, the diode voltage cannot increase continuously. However, when the diode voltage is 400 kV, the average power output is obtained to be 700 MW in simulation. The impedance of the device is clearly smaller than the simulation prediction. Moreover, the duration of the microwave pulse is obviously shorter than that of the current pulse. The experimental results are greatly different from the simulation predictions. The preliminary analyses show that the generations of the anode plasma, the cathode flare and the anode flare are the essential cause for the remarkable deviation of the experimental results from the simulation predictions. 展开更多

In order to improve the drivability and energy efficiency of electric vehicle (EV), more and more batteries are connected in series with high voltage which makes it necessary to monitor the electric parameters of high voltage system (HVS) to ensure the high voltage safety. A high voltage safety management system is developed to solve this critical issue. Several key electric parameters including pre-charge, contact resistance, insulation resistance and remaining capacity are monitored and analyzed based on the presented equivalent models. An electronic unit called high voltage safety controller is developed. By the help of hardware-in-loop system, the equivalent models integrated in the high voltage safety controller are validated and the on-line electric parameters monitor strategy is discussed. The real vehicle experiment results indicate that the high voltage safety management system designed is suitable for EV application. 展开更多

The risk of using the thermally insulated pipeline is that the exterior layers covering the steel pipe may be. pulled off if the shear stress on the interface induced by the pullout fore from the tensioner is greater than the binding fore between two neighboring layers during installation. This paper develops a procedure to calculate the shear stress on the interface. The binding force between two neighboring layers can be determined with full scale model tests. The safety of the thermally insulated pipe under installation can then be checked by comparison of the interface shear stress with the binding force. 展开更多

However, current loss is unavoidable, especially when the current density is up to 1 MA/cm. In the paper, the current loss of an MITL made of stainless steel, which is usually used in large pulse power generators, is experimentally studied, and possible mechanisms to explain the current loss of the MITL are analyzed and discussed. From the experimental results, the relationship between loss current density and input current density follows approximately a power law. On the basis of on-site measured data of the newly constructed Gonghe-Yushu Highway in a permafrost region, this paper analyzed thermal conditions of the subgrade with XPS insulated board according to different selected monitoring sections in various locations. We also summarized the geothermal distribution and change rules of subgrade with XPS insulation board under the asphalt pavement in summarized a high temperature frozen soil region. It is suggested that the shoulder of subgrade with XPS insulation board be widen to a reasonable width so as to keep the subgrade stable. 展开更多

We study the disorder-induced phase transition in two-dimensional non-Hermitian systems.First,the applicability of the noncommutative geometric method(NGM)in non-Hermitian systems is examined.By calculating the Chern number of two different systems(a square sample and a cylindrical one),the numerical results calculated by NGM are compared with the analytical one,and the phase boundary obtained by NGM is found to be in good agreement with the theoretical prediction.Then,we use NGM to investigate the evolution of the Chern number in non-Hermitian samples with the disorder effect.For the square sample,the stability of the non-Hermitian Chern insulator under disorder is confirmed.Significantly,we obtain a nontrivial topological phase induced by disorder.This phase is understood as the topological Anderson insulator in non-Hermitian systems.Finally,the disordered phase transition in the cylindrical sample is also investigated.The clean non-Hermitian cylindrical sample has three phases,and such samples show more phase transitions by varying the disorder strength:(1)the normal insulator phase to the gapless phase,(2)the normal insulator phase to the topological Anderson insulator phase,and(3)the gapless phase to the topological Anderson insulator phase. 展开更多
