Objective:This study aimed to investigate the learning expectations of undergraduate nursing students regarding the flipped Health Assessment course.Methods:This descriptive,qualitative study was conducted at a medica...Objective:This study aimed to investigate the learning expectations of undergraduate nursing students regarding the flipped Health Assessment course.Methods:This descriptive,qualitative study was conducted at a medical university in Fuzhou,Fujian Province,China.An interview outline was designed based on the core dimensions of Expectation Confirmation Theory(expectation sources,expectation content,and expectation importance).Thirty second-year undergraduate nursing students who had completed first-year basic medical courses and were about to take the flipped Health Assessment course were interviewed between June and July 2022.Interview data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.Results:Five major themes and thirteen subthemes were identified.Theme 1 was expectation sourcesperceived learning difficulties from past experiences,which included four subthemes:insufficient autonomous learning ability,confusion regarding learning methods,insufficient engagement in learning,and low professional identity.Theme 2 included knowledge and information expectations,which comprised three subthemes:knowledge to improve professional competence,knowledge to enhance academic competitiveness,and knowledge to boost self-efficacy.Theme 3 comprised logical expectations and included two subthemes:flexible teaching methods and efficient instructional tools.Theme 4,pleasure expectations,included two subthemes:vivid teaching styles and diversified teaching evaluations.Theme 5 comprised professional value expectations and included two subthemes:teachers'responsible professional attitudes and gentle emotional support.Conclusion:Students'learning expectations originate from perceived learning difficulties,such as insufficient learning autonomy and engagement,confusion about learning methods,and a lack of professional identity.They showed various learning expectations for the flipped Health Assessment course,including knowledge and information,logic,pleasure,and professional value expectations.展开更多

Sentiment analysis attracts the attention of Egyptian Decisionmakers in the education sector.It offers a viable method to assess education quality services based on the students’feedback as well as that provides an u...Sentiment analysis attracts the attention of Egyptian Decisionmakers in the education sector.It offers a viable method to assess education quality services based on the students’feedback as well as that provides an understanding of their needs.As machine learning techniques offer automated strategies to process big data derived from social media and other digital channels,this research uses a dataset for tweets’sentiments to assess a few machine learning techniques.After dataset preprocessing to remove symbols,necessary stemming and lemmatization is performed for features extraction.This is followed by several machine learning techniques and a proposed Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)classifier optimized by the Salp Swarm Algorithm(SSA)and measured the corresponding performance.Then,the validity and accuracy of commonly used classifiers,such as Support Vector Machine,Logistic Regression Classifier,and Naive Bayes classifier,were reviewed.Moreover,LSTM based on the SSA classification model was compared with Support Vector Machine(SVM),Logistic Regression(LR),and Naive Bayes(NB).Finally,as LSTM based SSA achieved the highest accuracy,it was applied to predict the sentiments of students’feedback and evaluate their association with the course outcome evaluations for education quality purposes.展开更多

Massive open online courses(MOOCs)have become a way of online learning across the world in the past few years.However,the extremely high dropout rate has brought many challenges to the development of online learning.M...Massive open online courses(MOOCs)have become a way of online learning across the world in the past few years.However,the extremely high dropout rate has brought many challenges to the development of online learning.Most of the current methods have low accuracy and poor generalization ability when dealing with high-dimensional dropout features.They focus on the analysis of the learning score and check result of online course,but neglect the phased student behaviors.Besides,the status of student participation at a given moment is necessarily impacted by the prior status of learning.To address these issues,this paper has proposed an ensemble learning model for early dropout prediction(ELM-EDP)that integrates attention-based document representation as a vector(A-Doc2vec),feature learning of course difficulty,and weighted soft voting ensemble with heterogeneous classifiers(WSV-HC).First,A-Doc2vec is proposed to learn sequence features of student behaviors of watching lecture videos and completing course assignments.It also captures the relationship between courses and videos.Then,a feature learning method is proposed to reduce the interference caused by the differences of course difficulty on the dropout prediction.Finally,WSV-HC is proposed to highlight the benefits of integration strategies of boosting and bagging.Experiments on the MOOCCube2020 dataset show that the high accuracy of our ELM-EDP has better results on Accuracy,Precision,Recall,and F1.展开更多

The...The paper reports on collaborative learning approach to a remedial class in Dynamics. It uses the Kolb model and 4MAT learning system to introduce a learning cycle based on collaborative problem solving exercises. The teaching approach based on learning cycle is described giving examples of different teaching elements applied in particular quadrants of the learning cycle. The attitude of students and their different approaches to, learning are presented and discussed in detail. The results presented cover different aspects of the course delivery and students＇ perception. The results include students＇ statistics with respect to their registration and previous history related to the course, their motivatiion, assessment and satisfaction with the approach applied. This initial introduction of cooperative activities into the remedial Dynamics class can be assessed as a positive step in increasing student understanding and performance in the course. The students＇ positive reception of the non-traditional teaching method and their overall improved performance seem to confirm the advantages of collaborative leaming. In terms of the final grades, the results of the experiment were not as good as expected. However, the application of 4MAT learning system which exposed students to a variety of diverse learning styles improved the quality of education. The positive aspect of the experiment was the attitude of students and their acceptance of the new mode of course delivery. In conclusion collaborative learning could be extended beyond remedial groups to normal student classes.展开更多
