The intermediary roles of the two types of knowledge spillover( explicit and implicit) in GVC embeddedness and clustered firms' innovation are considered, and the effects of structure embeddedness, relationship embeddedness, and acknowledgement embeddedness on clustered firms' innovation are examined. Analysis is based on the sample of 134 export-oriented firms from the Shaoxing industrial cluster in Zhejiang province of China. Results show that although GVC embeddedness is associated with high use of external knowledge sources, clustered firms' innovation is promoted indirectly through explicit knowledge spillover. Intrinsic connections exist among the different dimensions of GVC embeddedness, that is,structure embeddedness not only directly improves relationship embeddedness but also indirectly improves acknowledgement embeddedness through relationship embeddedness.展开更多

In addition to previous research on the relationship between team structure and innovation performance, this study draws from an interesting experience-based theory advanced by Kelley and Littman (2005), which examines teams from design thinking perspective, and tests its contributions and effects on team's innovation performance. According to Kelley and Littman any team should include the following team roles: The anthropologist, the experimenter, the cross-pollinator, the hurdler, the collaborator, the director, the experience architect, the set designer, the storyteller, and the caregiver. We develop theoretical logics to explain how team structure that includes these key team roles and competences lead to a better innovation performance, and propose pertinent hypotheses. Experimental-empirical research and quantitative analysis were used in the study. The study conducted multiple experiments on three samples: a group of foreign entrepreneurship students, a group of technical students, and an additional group of randomly selected individuals, aged between 20 and 58, with diverse backgrounds. A special approach was implemented and a new instrument was developed to evaluate individuals in teams. While the results show that team that possess the major competences proposed by Kelley and Littman are more innovative, preliminary results also show that not all team roles are equally important. Moreover, team roles should be allocated equally among members for better collaboration, member satisfaction, and quick response, and within one team, one prevailing personality is optimal in terms of innovativeness. We discuss the implications of our findings for future research and managerial practice.展开更多

文摘Purpose:This study explores the combined effects of structural and relational embeddedness within alliance networks on firm innovation.By focusing on the interplay between network structures and relationships, this study provides a nonlinear framework to unravel the complex dynamics between alliance networks and firm innovation performance within the manufacturing industry.Design/methodology/approach:Using social network analysis, this study examines the topological structure of firms’alliance networks. An exploratory approach involving K-Means clustering and decision tree methods is employed to identify heterogeneous network types within the alliance networks. The analysis further explores the nonlinear relationships between network characteristics, including closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, clustering coefficient, and relational attributes, including collaboration intensity and breadth, and their combined influence on firm innovation.Findings:The study identified four distinct heterogeneous network types:dyadic, star, ringlike, and complex networks. Each type reveals unique network characteristics and their impact on innovation performance.Key decision rules were extracted, showing that strong relational embeddedness can hinder innovation in dyadic networks, while a greater distance from the central firm correlates with higher innovation performance in star alliance networks. For ringlike alliance networks, moderate cooperation intensity is beneficial for innovation when the clustering coefficient is not high.In complex alliance networks, the combined effects of cooperation intensity, breadth, and clustering coefficient significantly influence innovation.Research limitations:The research presented in this study, while offering valuable insights into the relationship between alliance networks and firm innovation within the manufacturing sector,is subject to several limitations.A focus on the manufacturing industry may restrict the generalizability of our findings to other sectors, where the dynamics of innovation and collaboration might differ significantly.Additionally, our reliance on patent data, while providing a quantifiable measure of innovation, may overlook other forms of innovation that are equally critical in different contexts, such as service innovations or business model transformations.Practical implications:This research offers significant insights into how firms can leverage both network structure and relational aspects to enhance innovation outcomes.By revealing the nonlinear and complex interactions between network embeddedness dimensions, this study makes a valuable contribution to both theory and practice. This highlights that strategic management of both structural and relational embeddedness can foster superior innovation performance, offering firms a competitive advantage by optimizing their alliance network configurations.Originality/value:This study’s originality lies in its examination of the combined effects of structural and relational network embeddings on innovation performance.By identifying distinct network types and their impact on innovation, this study advances the theoretical understanding of how network characteristics interact to shape firm innovation. It contributes to the literature by offering a novel, multidimensional framework that integrates social network theory and resource-based view, providing new insights for firms to leverage their network positions and relationships for competitive advantage.
文摘Objective To study the importance of digital economy to promote the innovation development of enterprises under the background of the era of information technology reform. Methods The maximum entropy method was used to measure the comprehensive level of digital economy development at provincial level.Besides, the impact of digital economy on the innovation performance of pharmaceutical industry was investigated empirically by using A-share pharmaceutical companies listed in China from 2013 to 2020 as a research sample, and the mediating mechanism of R&D investment and financing constraints on the impact was examined. Results and Conclusion It is found that digital economy is significantly and positively related to the innovation performance of enterprises. The mechanism test shows that digital economy improves innovation performance through the expansion effect of R&D investment and alleviating financing constraints. In the context that digital economy has become a new driving force for enterprise innovation, the combination of digital economy and real economy should be actively promoted,R&D investment in pharmaceutical enterprises should be increased, and financing channels should be broadened.

文摘In the context of the revolution in new technologies,a key question is whether the rapid growth of the digital economy, driven by digital technologies, has improved regional innovation performance.Using inter-provincial panel data from China(2012–2022)and adopting a business environment perspective, this study applies a Panel Extended Regression Model(PERM),a Panel Simultaneous Equation Model(PSEM),and a Tobit-IV model to analyze how the development of the digital economy influences regional innovation. The results reveal a pronounced U-shaped relationship between the digital economy and the regional innovation performance at the provincial level in China, with the business environment serving as a significant mediator in this relationship. Moreover, regional innovation performance in China exhibits a“ratchet effect,”with the impact of the digital economy varying markedly across regions. While the eastern and western regions have entered an upward phase, whereby the digital economy boosts innovation, the central region displays a weaker effect.Further analysis indicates that the synergy between the business environment and the digital economy in driving innovation remains suboptimal. These findings were supported by robust checks. This study offers theoretical insights and empirical evidence that support the coordinated development of digital government and the digital factor market,as well as business environment reforms that are in alignment with the innovation demands of the digital era.

文摘This study examines the effect of key big data analytics capabilities(data, skills, technology, and culture)on innovation performance and business performance.Data were gathered from 91 companies and analyzed to determine correlations in the proposed model. The results find that big data analytics capabilities(BDAC)partially mediate the effect between innovative performance and business performance.Further,as a company’s performance is a multidimensional element, was necessary to analyze more than one attribute to evaluate the relationship with BDAC through a canonical correlation analysis. The results in this sense reveal that the four big data capabilities increase the growth of sales, revenue, the number of workers, the net profit margin, innovation management, the development of new products and services, and the adoption of new information technologies.
