Breast cancer diagnosis being a stressful experience, causes psychological and emotional disruption that can be abated by meeting information needs of the affected patients. In light of the escalating cases of Breast cancer among the Zambian women, the study examined a special aspect of cancer management which is usually neglected in most cases. Aim: The main objective of the study was to assess information needs of breast cancer patients at the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia using a modified structured interview schedule adopted from the Toronto Information Needs Questionnaire-Breast Cancer (TINQ-BC). Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used to elicit the information needs of breast cancer patients. One hundred and ten (97% response rate) participants were selected using simple random sampling method and data was collected using a modified structured interview schedule adopted from the Toronto Information Needs Questionnaire-Breast Cancer (TINQ-BC). Stata 10.0 (StataCorp, 2008) was employed for all quantitative data analysis and graphical presentation of data. Results: The overall score for information needs was obtained by adding the scores across all the five information needs categories which were further divided into three categories namely: low important scores, of less than 50%, moderately important scores of 50% - 70% and highly important scores ranged above 70% of the 200 total scores. Out of the 110 participants recruited, 88 (80%) indicated that the information across the five categories was moderately important. Logistic regression of information needs and posited determinants revealed that anxiety levels;education level;presence of co-morbidity;and being on treatment were significant determinants of patients’ informational needs (Effect’s p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study support the idea that breast cancer patients are seeking more information on their illness, hence information provision is one of the most important factors for providing high quality cancer care across the whole cancer continuum. Therefore, appreciating the information needs of breast cancer patients is substantial in improving care.展开更多

China is currently experiencing a social and technological transformation of great magnitude in terms of metamorphosing itself from a traditional society to one that is driven by information technologies. Our research study, taking this proposition into account, did a questionnaire survey on 954 library information users at five major public libraries. This research study has discovered that the information needs of public library users today reflect some of the peculiar characteristics of their society in changing times which is driven largely by the rapid development and application of new information technologies. It shows that there is a newly added demand emphasis on certain categories of library resources and services by the Chinese reading public. Our research findings have identified such needs basically in the following five functional areas of public libraries, namely, 1) Increased demands for economic resources, 2) rising expectations for more effective and efficient library services, 3) a convenient location and an amicable environment congenial to learning, 4) a suitable place for engaging in intellectual dialogues and in socialization, and 5) a few other technological amenities and information technology-based digital resources and facilities in addition to a rich repository of library materials in print format. Finally, our paper concludes its discussion with a few observation remarks about the changing trend of public libraries' visions, missions and operations vis-à-vis a contextual background of the ever heightened public expectations for getting quality information services in a timely manner in order for them to function effectively in an information-oriented society such as that of ours today.展开更多

Respondents were categorized based on their Japanese and English language abilities. Their media mode, language preferences, information importance, and information-gathering difficulties also were examined. It was found that foreigners skilled in Japanese demonstrated similar information gathering behavior as Japanese respondents, but foreigners unskilled in Japanese showed little usage of Japanese-language media. This group also encountered difficulties due to a lack of Japanese proficiency, but many members were able to acquire some level of Japanese-language information through Internet-based methods. To address language proficiency in disaster prevention planning, information provision in languages other than Japanese should be increased, and Japanese information should be shared in a way that facilitates translation. Although this survey wassignificant in its scope, the results should be considered within the limitations of the Internet-based response collection and focus only on the less-affected area of Japan.展开更多

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 7 people in charge of organizing practicums at hospitals where they are carried out. These subjects were asked about problems they had experienced in relation to nursing students’ handling of patient information and the instruction that is needed so that problems related to nursing students’ handling of information do not occur. Various problems were shown to occur in relation to nursing students’ handling of patient information, such as handling the information outside of the practicum setting. Many students receive no instruction with regard to the ethics of handling patient information in their classroom work, and their awareness regarding information is cannot be considered high, indicating the need for more consistent and reliable education in this area. The findings also suggest that instruction is needed with regard to the handling of sensitive information in accordance with the circumstances of individual patients.展开更多

With few treatment options to choose from, such patients often benefit from empathic support and access to information to help them make treatment decisions based on their individual circumstances and needs. Patients with MBC have been shown to present with unique physical, social and psychological needs that require additional time, counselling and availability of health care providers in addition to the routine options available to other patients. In resource-limited settings, the needs of such patients are often unknown and unaddressed, which adds to the anxiety associated with the diagnosis and its treatment. Materials and methods: This descriptive qualitative study was conducted using 3 focus group discussions with a total of 17 participants with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) attending Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Participants were purposively selected for the study from outpatient clinics and inpatient wards. A semi-structured FGD guide was used to moderate discussions and analysis was done using a thematic approach. Results: The median age of participants was 51 (range 33 - 81 years) with an average of 4 months (range 1 - 12 months) from diagnosis of BC to the interview. 4 (24%) were diagnosed with MBC on first presentation (denovo). Participants spoke about the importance of accurate BC-related information in allowing timely referral and treatment both in the community and within the health system. They recognized the role of mass and social media in increasing awareness about BC and identified myths surrounding cancer treatment especially mastectomy. Correct and timely information at points of care, through media platforms and via ambassadors/patient support groups was perceived as a means to avoiding delays and securing early and effective treatment. Conclusion: Patients with MBC in Tanzania have many unmet informational needs in relation to their disease. Accurate BC-related information is important in allowing early detection and diagnosis. At the community level, provision of information through established media platforms and the use of patient advocates may help to enable early referral and treatment of patients.展开更多

Methodology: A prospective, qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was carried out at the Brachytherapy unit of the National Institute of Oncology in Rabat, Morocco. Purposive sampling was used to recruit 31 patients undergoing high dose-rate brachytherapy for cervical cancer from July 2020 to August 2020. Semi-structured, one-to-one interviews were conducted by a female radiation oncologist in Arabic, guided by a theme list. The interviews were translated and a thematic analysis was performed. Results: Data saturation was achieved having interviewing 31 participants, aged 27 - 70 years. Findings on patients’ informational needs were the overarching theme and form the focus of this article. The informational needs included: providing patients with disease- and treatment-related information in their home language;adequate information concerning pre-treatment preparation, possible side-effects, and sexual intercourse;and providing patients with informative material adapted to their needs as standard procedure. Conclusion: This study has identified unmet women’s informational needs during brachytherapy for cervical cancer. Providing patients with sufficient and understandable information, adequate preparation before the procedure, more sensitive support during the procedure, and debriefing afterward could lessen feelings of fear and anxiety towards treatment delivery. Guidelines with a patient-centered approach could thus be developed to be used as a tool to assist members of multidisciplinary teams in providing quality care to this group of women.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)is a heterogenous, lifelong disease, with an unpredictable and potentially progressive course, that may impose negative psychosocial impact on patients. While informed patients with chronic illness have improved adherence and outcomes, previous research showed that the majority of IBD patients receive insufficient information regarding their disease. The large heterogeneity of IBD and the wide range of information topics makes a one-size fits all knowledge resource overwhelming and cumbersome. We hypothesized that different patient profiles may have different and specific information needs, the identification of which will allow building personalized computer-based information resources in the future.AIM To evaluate the scope of disease-related knowledge among IBD patients and determine whether different patient profiles drive unique information needs.METHODS We conducted a nationwide survey addressing hospital-based IBD clinics.A Total of 571 patients completed a 28-item questionnaire, rating the amount of information received at time of diagnosis and the importance of information,as perceived by participants, for a newly diagnosed patient, and for the participants themselves,at current time.We performed an exploratory factor analysis of the crude responses aiming to create a number of representative knowledge domains(factors),and analyzed the responses of a set of 15 real-life patient profiles generated by the study team.RESULTS Participants gave low ratings for the amount of information received at disease onset(averaging 0.9/5)and high ratings for importance, both for the newly diagnosed patients(mean 4.2/5)and for the participants themselves at current time(mean 3.5/5).Factor analysis grouped responses into six informationdomains. The responses of selected profiles, compared with the rest of the participants, yielded significant associations(defined as a difference in rating of>0.5 points with a P<0.05).Patients with active disease showed a higher interest in work-disability,stress-coping,and therapy-complications.Patients newly diagnosed at age>50,and patients with long-standing disease(>10 years)showed less interest in work-disability.Patients in remission with mesalamine or no therapy showed less interest in all domains except for nutrition and long-term complications.CONCLUSION We demonstrate unmet patient information needs.Analysis of various patient profiles revealed associations with specific information topics, paving the way for building patient-tailored information resources.
文摘Background: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide and the second most common among Zambian women. Therefore, appreciating the information needs of breast cancer patients is substantial in improving care.

文摘Public libraries should be vigilant and responsive to the ever changing information needs of their clientele functioning in a society undergoing through rapid change due to technological innovations. Finally, our paper concludes its discussion with a few observation remarks about the changing trend of public libraries' visions, missions and operations vis-à-vis a contextual background of the ever heightened public expectations for getting quality information services in a timely manner in order for them to function effectively in an information-oriented society such as that of ours today.

文摘After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japanese government identified the lack of proficiency in the Japanese language as one characteristic of foreigners that should be considered in disaster prevention planning. This article seeks to understand how proficiency in a local language affects disaster information gathering behavior by using the results of a questionnaire survey conducted after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Although this survey wassignificant in its scope, the results should be considered within the limitations of the Internet-based response collection and focus only on the less-affected area of Japan.

文摘The purpose of this study was to clarify and consider the instruction that is needed in relation to nursing students’ handling of patient information, as felt by the people in charge of student clinical practicums in hospitals. The findings also suggest that instruction is needed with regard to the handling of sensitive information in accordance with the circumstances of individual patients.

文摘With the development of smart cities and smart technologies, parks,as functional units of the city, are facing smart transformation. The development of smart parks can help address challenges of technology integration within urban spaces and serve as testbeds for exploring smart city planning and governance models.Information models facilitate the effective integration of technology into space.Building Information Modeling(BIM)and City Information Modeling(CIM)have been widely used in urban construction. However, the existing information models have limitations in the application of the park,so it is necessary to develop an information model suitable for the park. This paper first traces the evolution of park smart transformation, reviews the global landscape of smart park development, and identifies key trends and persistent challenges.Addressing the particularities of parks, the concept of Park Information Modeling(PIM)is proposed.PIM leverages smart technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and collaborative sensing to help form a‘space-technology-system’smart structure, enabling systematic management of diverse park spaces, addressing the deficiency in park-level information models, and aiming to achieve scale articulation between BIM and CIM.Finally, through a detailed top-level design application case study of the Nanjing Smart Education Park in China, this paper illustrates the translation process of the PIM concept into practice, showcasing its potential to provide smart management tools for park managers and enhance services for park stakeholders, although further empirical validation is required.
文摘Background: The majority of breast cancer patients in Tanzania present with advanced disease, and a significant proportion has metastatic breast cancer (MBC) on presentation or develops it during the course of their follow-up. At the community level, provision of information through established media platforms and the use of patient advocates may help to enable early referral and treatment of patients.

文摘Objective: To identify the informational needs of Moroccan women receiving intracavitary brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer as part of a process to develop guidelines for quality patient-centered care. Guidelines with a patient-centered approach could thus be developed to be used as a tool to assist members of multidisciplinary teams in providing quality care to this group of women.

文摘The visual noise of each light intensity area is different when the image is drawn by Monte Carlo method. However, the existing denoising algorithms have limited denoising performance under complex lighting conditions and are easy to lose detailed information. So we propose a rendered image denoising method with filtering guided by lighting information.First,we design an image segmentation algorithm based on lighting information to segment the image into different illumination areas. Then,we establish the parameter prediction model guided by lighting information for filtering(PGLF)to predict the filtering parameters of different illumination areas. For different illumination areas,we use these filtering parameters to construct area filters, and the filters are guided by the lighting information to perform sub-area filtering. Finally, the filtering results are fused with auxiliary features to output denoised images for improving the overall denoising effect of the image.Under the physically based rendering tool(PBRT)scene and Tungsten dataset, the experimental results show that compared with other guided filtering denoising methods, our method improves the peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR)metrics by 4.2164 dB on average and the structural similarity index(SSIM)metrics by 7.8%on average. This shows that our method can better reduce the noise in complex lighting scenesand improvethe imagequality.
文摘This research pioneers the integration of geographic information systems(GIS)and 3D modeling within a virtual reality(VR)framework to assess the viability and planning of a 20 MW hybrid wind-solarphotovoltaic(PV)system connected to the local grid. The study focuses on Dakhla,Morocco,a region with vast untapped renewable energy potential.By leveraging GIS,we are innovatively analyzing geographical and environmental factors that influence optimal site selection and system design. The incorporation of VR technologies offers an unprecedented level of realism and immersion, allowing stakeholders to virtually experience the project's impact and design in a dynamic, interactive environment. This novel methodology includes extensive data collection, advanced modeling, and simulations, ensuring that the hybrid system is precisely tailored to the unique climatic and environmental conditions of Dakhla. Our analysis reveals that the region possesses a photovoltaic solar potential of approximately2400 k Wh/m^(2) per year, with an average annual wind power density of about 434 W/m^(2) at an 80-meter hub height.Productivity simulations indicate that the 20 MW hybrid system could generate approximately 60 GWh of energy per year and 1369 GWh over its 25-year lifespan. To validate these findings,we employed the System Advisor Model(SAM)software and the Global Solar Photovoltaic Atlas platform. This comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach not only provides a robust assessment of the system's feasibility but also offers valuable insights into its potential socio-economic and environmental impact.

文摘Ecological monitoring vehicles are equipped with a range of sensors and monitoring devices designed to gather data on ecological and environmental factors. These vehicles are crucial in various fields, including environmental science research, ecological and environmental monitoring projects, disaster response, and emergency management.A key method employed in these vehicles for achieving high-precision positioning is LiDAR(lightlaser detection and ranging)-Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping(SLAM).However, maintaining highprecision localization in complex scenarios, such as degraded environments or when dynamic objects are present, remains a significant challenge. To address this issue,we integrate both semantic and texture information from LiDAR and cameras to enhance the robustness and efficiency of data registration.Specifically, semantic information simplifies the modeling of scene elements, reducing the reliance on dense point clouds, which can be less efficient.Meanwhile, visual texture information complements LiDAR-Visual localization by providing additional contextual details.By incorporating semantic and texture details frompaired images and point clouds,we significantly improve the quality of data association, thereby increasing the success rate of localization. This approach not only enhances the operational capabilities of ecological monitoring vehicles in complex environments but also contributes to improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of ecological monitoring and environmental protection efforts.
