With the purpose to understand better the role of information not only in communication systems, but actually in our environmental reality, this paper presented the model of Universal Triangle of Reality, composed by Matter,Energy and Information,as fundamental constitutive components of this reality.Arguments coming from the field of physics, both at the cosmic and microparticles scale are presented, showing undoubtable conclusions that information is a fundamental component of reality in our material world. At the cosmic level, where the unusual high concentration of mass in the black holes constitutes a special state of matter, suitable for analysis of their special properties, the problem of the conservation principle of information is discussed. At the quantum level, the special unusual characteristics derived from the non-localization principle are also highlighted, together with information-involved problems and solutions. The Universal Triangle of Reality in the living systems reveals the high role of the involved information, both as the informational common organization on the entire evolution scale, and as the info-dynamics processes inside of own structure and resulted from interaction with the environment. The relevant advances in the approaching and understanding of the functionality of the living systems from informational point of view are highlighted, showing the high contribution of information concepts in understanding/solving of various older/recent problems in philosophy,neuroscience/neurology/psychiatry,neuro-physics/neuropsychology/behavior sciences,geriatrics/gerontology,biology and life sciences. 展开更多

With the purpose to smooth the way of a correct understanding of information concepts and their evolution,in this paper,is discussed the evolution and development of the concept of information in biological systems, showing that this concept was intuitively perceived even since ancient times by our predecessors, and described according to their language level of that times, but the crystallization of the real meaning of information is an achievement of our nowadays,by successive contribution of various scientific branches and personalities of the scientific community of the world, leading to a modern description/modeling of reality,in which information plays a fundamental role.It is shown that our reality can be understood as a contribution of matter/energy/information and represented/discussed as the model of the Universal Triangle of Reality(UTR),where various previous models can be suggestively inserted,as a function of their basic concern. The modern concepts on information starting from a theoretic experiment which would infringe the thermodynamics laws and reaching the theory of information and modern philosophic concepts on the world structuration allow us to show that information is a fundamental component of the material world and of the biological structures,in correlation with the structuration/destructuration processes of matter, involving absorption/release of information.Based on these concepts,is discussed the functionality of the biologic structures and is presented the informational model of the human body and living structures,as a general model of info-organization on the entire biological scale, showing that a rudimentary proto-consciousness should be operative even at the low-scale biological systems, because they work on the same principles, like the most developed bio-systems.The operability of biologic structures as informational devices is also pointed out. 展开更多

Identifying human actions and interactions finds its use in manyareas, such as security, surveillance, assisted living, patient monitoring, rehabilitation, sports, and e-learning. This wide range of applications has attractedmany researchers to this field. Inspired by the existing recognition systems, this paper proposes a new and efficient human-object interaction recognition(HOIR) model which is based on modeling human pose and scene featureinformation. There are different aspects involved in an interaction, includingthe humans, the objects, the various body parts of the human, and the backgroundscene. Themain objectives of this research include critically examiningthe importance of all these elements in determining the interaction, estimatinghuman pose through image foresting transform (IFT), and detecting the performedinteractions based on an optimizedmulti-feature vector. The proposedmethodology has six main phases. The first phase involves preprocessing theimages. During preprocessing stages, the videos are converted into imageframes. Then their contrast is adjusted, and noise is removed. In the secondphase, the human-object pair is detected and extracted from each image frame. The third phase involves the identification of key body parts of the detectedhumans using IFT. The fourth phase relates to three different kinds of featureextraction techniques. Then these features are combined and optimized duringthe fifth phase. The optimized vector is used to classify the interactions in thelast phase. TheMSRDaily Activity 3D dataset has been used to test this modeland to prove its efficiency. The proposed system obtains an average accuracyof 91.7% on this dataset. 展开更多

Panoramic perception, as a technology for comprehensive information acquisition, is a fascinating research topicacross various disciplines. Acoustic, being one of the most familiar channels for human information conveyance, holdsconsiderable potential for harnessing in panoramic perception. In nature, the spider is able to sense acoustic-inducedair particle motion using a slender web. The unique acoustic response mechanism approaches maximum physicalefficiency, which is much better than all previously known acoustic responsiveness of tympanic membranes. Herein, inspired by such unique structural and functional features of the spider auditory system, we propose a bio-inspiredweb-like structure that exhibits superior mechanical compliance (23.6 ~ 0.016 μm/Pa), high sensitivity (9.36 mm/s/Pa@100 Hz), excellent low-frequency response (10 Hz in experiment, 1 Hz in simulation), fine frequency resolution(0.05 Hz) and inherent directionality to acoustic. These excellent features demonstrate that the bio-inspired web-likestructure is well-suited for high-performance acoustic detection and holds potential for panoramic acousticperception. Meanwhile, the sensing system demonstrates promise in automatic driving, disaster monitoring and earlywarning, human-computer interaction, national defense security, etc. 展开更多

Flexible epidermal electrodes hold substantial promise in realizing human electrophysiological information collections.Conventional electrodes exhibit certain limitations, including the requirement of skin pretreatment, reliance on external object-assisted fixation, and a propensity of dehydration, which severely hinder their applications in medical diagnosis. To tackle those issues,we developed a hydrogel electrode with both transcutaneous stimulation and neural signal acquisition functions. The electrode consists of a composite conductive layer(CCL)and adhesive conductive hydrogel(ACH).The CCL is designed as a laminated structure with high conductivity and charge storage capacity(CSC).Based on the optimization of Hoffmeister effect, the ACH demonstrates excellent electrical(resistivity of 3.56Ω·m),mechanical(tensile limit of 1,650%),and adhesion properties(peeling energy of 0.28 J).The utilization of ACH as electrode/skin interface can reduce skin contact impedance and noise interference and enhance the CSC and charge injection capacity of electrodes. As a proof of concept, peripheral nerve conduction studies were performed on human volunteers to evaluate the as-fabricated hydrogel electrodes.Compared with the commercial electrodes, our hydrogel electrodes achieved better signal continuity and lower distortion, higher signal-to-noise ratio(~35 dB),and lower stimulation voltages(up to 27%l ower),which can improve the safety and comfort of nerve conduction studies. 展开更多

The growing PHY layer capabilities of WiFi has made it possible to reuse WiFi signals for both communication and sensing. Sensing via WiFi would enable remote sensing without wearable sensors, simultaneous perception and data transmission without extra communication infrastructure, and contactless sensing in privacy-preserving mode. Due to the popularity of WiFi devices and the ubiquitous deployment of WiFi networks, WiFi-based sensing networks, if fully connected, would potentially rank as one of the world's largest wireless sensor networks. Yet the concept of wireless and sensorless sensing is not the simple combination of WiFi and radar. It seeks breakthroughs from dedicated radar systems, and aims to balance between low cost and high accuracy, to meet the rising demand for pervasive environment perception in everyday life. Despite increasing research interest, wireless sensing is still in its infancy. Through introductions on basic principles and working prototypes, we review the feasibilities and limitations of wireless, sensorless, and contactless sensing via WiFi. We envision this article as a brief primer on wireless sensing for interested readers to explore this open and largely unexplored field and create next-generation wireless and mobile computing applications. 展开更多
