Using the CHDES database,we created the CIDI to comprehensively quantify digital adoption at the individual level and examine digitalization’s impact on individual income.Empirical analysis results indicate that increasing the CIDI by one standard deviation(0.13)improves individual income by 5.93 percentage points, which remains true after a series of endogeneity and robustness tests. In the heterogeneity analysis,we discovered that when digital adoption grows, residents in the countryside and county seats can earn more money through internet business operations and other channels. This helps to decrease the urban-rural income divide, but it has also pushed those digitally skilled into high-paying sectors, widening the income gaps between sectors. In the mechanism analysis,we developed an income function that takes into account the individual level of digitalization to show that digitalization can boost income by increasing working hours or labor participation and adjusting the portfolio of individual material, human, and social capital. In this paper,we have expanded the system for measuring the individual levels of digitalization by offering basic data, research methodology, and policy suggestions for the digital economy’s inclusive development. 展开更多

Analysis of China's Unequal Income Distribution from the Perspective of Functional Income Distribution

China's unequal income distribution is to a large extent expressed in unequal functional income distribution, that is, as China's economy develops, the share of wage income in national income falls. The unlimited supply of labor under China's current dual economic structure is the major reason for this. In a disequilibrium dynamic model framework with Keynesian features, empirical analysis shows that the unlimited supply of labor not only prevents wages from responding to supply and demand situation in the labor market, but also makes them insensitive to labor productivity and price changes. This suggests that when there is a rise in labor productivity or prices following economic growth, the rise in wages may not be sufficiently marked. The benefits derived from economic growth or labor productivity increases have been, to a very large extent, converted into profits and not wages. Therefore, if we are to reverse China's worsening income distribution, our fundamental path should remain the maintenance of high-speed growth and the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization so that surplus rural labor can be absorbed as soon as possible. 展开更多

The declining share of labor compensation in China's GDP has raised intense public concern. Using statistics since 1978, this research paper examines, in detail, the changing patterns of labor compensation since reform and opening- up. Following international practices. this paper has adjusted China's labor compensation statistics. The results show that, iu contrast to a significant drop in the share of labor competsation in GDP before making an adjustment, the adjusted share has actually remained stable for the most part after the late 1970s.There has been no discernable fall until the last several years, The real prablem in China's functional distribution of national income since the late 1970s has not been the declining share of labor compensation in GDP. Actually, the share has always remained consistently low.It can be characterized as beiag "stable at a low level on a long-term basis".How to increase the labor share, which is in the interest of the average worker is a major question that must be addressed in China's future economic development. 展开更多
