An efficient method is proposed for the design of finite impulse response(FIR) filter with arbitrary pass band edge,stop band edge frequencies and transition width.The proposed FIR band stop filter is designed using craziness based particle swarm optimization(CRPSO) approach.Given the filter specifications to be realized,the CRPSO algorithm generates a set of optimal filter coefficients and tries to meet the ideal frequency response characteristics.In this paper,for the given problem,the realizations of the optimal FIR band pass filters of different orders have been performed.The simulation results have been compared with those obtained by the well accepted evolutionary algorithms,such as Parks and McClellan algorithm(PMA),genetic algorithm(GA) and classical particle swarm optimization(PSO).Several numerical design examples justify that the proposed optimal filter design approach using CRPSO outperforms PMA and PSO,not only in the accuracy of the designed filter but also in the convergence speed and solution quality. 展开更多

In frequency domain,the power spectrum of Low-rate denial of service(LDoS) attacks is totally spread into the spectrum of normal traffic.It is a challenging task to detect and filter LDoS attack flows from the normal traffic.Based on the analysis of LDoS attack flows and legitimate TCP traffic in time and frequency domains,the periodicity of the TCP traffic and LDoS attack flows is explored to facilitate the research of network traffic processing.Hence,an approach of LDoS attack flow filtering based on frequency spectrum analysis is proposed.In this approach,the TCP traffic and LDoS attack flows are transformed from the time domain into the frequency domain.Then the round-trip time(RTT) is estimated by using frequency domain search method.Analysis of amplitude spectrum shows that TCP traffic energy is mainly concentrated on the points of n/RTT.Therefore,a comb filter using infinite impulse response(IIR) filter is designed to filter out the LDoS attack flows in frequency domain,while most legitimate TCP traffic energy at the points of n/RTT are pass through.Experimental results show that the maximum pass rate for legitimate TCP traffic reaches 92.55%,while the maximum filtration rate of LDoS attack flows reaches 81.36%.The proposed approach can effectively filter the LDoS attack flows while less impact on the legitimate TCP traffic. 展开更多

To enhance dynamic tracking performance and anti-disturbance capacity of finite impulse response(FIR) filters, variable discount factors are introduced to the recursive least squares(RLS) algorithm. By employing improved FIR filters to conduct modelling of industrial robot drive systems, dynamic characteristics of the target systems are identified. Then the fault detection for a target system can be utilized by analyzing the coefficients of the FIR filter. Finally, an application of the fault detection scheme to a kind of brushless DC motor drive system is described. Compared with reference methods, the proposed scheme achieves effective fault detection and performs better in dynamic tracking and robustness according to the final simulation results. 展开更多

This paper proposes a novel iterative algorithm for optimal design of non-frequency-selective Finite Impulse Response(FIR) digital filters based on the windowing method.Different from the traditional optimization concept of adjusting the window or the filter order in the windowing design of an FIR digital filter,the key idea of the algorithm is minimizing the approximation error by succes-sively modifying the design result through an iterative procedure under the condition of a fixed window length.In the iterative procedure,the known deviation of the designed frequency response in each iteration from the ideal frequency response is used as a reference for the next iteration.Because the approximation error can be specified variably,the algorithm is applicable for the design of FIR digital filters with different technical requirements in the frequency domain.A design example is employed to illustrate the efficiency of the algorithm. 展开更多

In this, today’s world immeasurable analysis goes within the field of communication and signal processing applications. The FIR filter is mostly employed in filtering applications to enhance the quality of the signal. In any processor, the performance of the system is based on the speed of the multiplier unit involved in its operation. Since multiplier forms the indispensable building blocks of the FIR filter system. Its performance has contributed in determining the execution of the FIR filter system. Also, due to the tremendous development in the technology, many approaches such as an array, Vedic methods are made to speed up the multiplier computations. The problem in speed-up operation and resource utilization of hardware with all the conventional methods due to the critical path found in partial products has to be optimized using proposed method. This paper presents the implementation and execution of a FIR Filter design using Anurupye multiplier. Here the FIR filter is examined by using various multiplier algorithms such as Anurupye, Urdhava Tiryagbhyam, and array multipliers. The FIR filter is simulated for analyzing delay;area and power are meted out and lessened by utilizing proposed Anurupye multiplier. The FIR filter design utilizing proposed multiplier offers delay around 18.99 and only 4% of LUT slice utilization compared to existing methods. This architecture is coded in VHDL, simulated using the ModelSim and synthesized with Xilinx. 展开更多

With the continuous evolution of electronic technology,field-programmable gate array(FPGA)has demonstrated significant advantages in the realm of signal acquisition and processing,and signal acquisition plays a pivotal role in the practical applications of laser gyros.By analysis of the output signals from a laser gyro and an accelerometer,this paper presents a circuit design for signal acquisition of the laser gyro based on domestic devices.The design incorporates a finite impulse response(FIR)filter to process the gyro signal and employs a small-volume,impact-resistant quartz flexible accelerometer for signal aquisition.Simulation results demonstrate that the errors in X,Y,and Z axes fall within acceptable ranges while meeting filtering requirements.The use of FPGA for signal acquisition and preprocessing enhances configuration flexibility,which provides an idea and method for optimizing performance and processing signals in laser gyro applications. 展开更多

A forward-backward IIR (infinitive impulse response) filterwith no delay is designed to filter the sampled data, and series A and B are achieved by narrow andwide band filtering, respectively. In series A, the start point of the cycle first exceeding thethreshold is calculated accuratelyby interpolation, and the start cycle is detected by fittingcycles in series A and its inversion A' to cycles in B with variance analysis. Therefore, the startpoint of the start cycle is calculated precisely. By deriving the relationships between the traveltime in the opposite directions of three axes and the airflow velocities, the wind velocity anddirection are calculated. Experiments show that the reliability and the precision are improved, andthe circuits are simplified. 展开更多

In this paper, a partial discharge detection system is proposed using an optical fiber Fabry-Perot(FP) interferometric sensor, which is fabricated by photolithography. SU-8 photoresist is employed due to its low Young's modulus and potentially high sensitivity for ultrasound detection. The FP cavity is formed by coating the fiber end face with two layers of SU-8 so that the cavity can be controlled by the thickness of the middle layer of SU-8. Static pressure measurement experiments are done to estimate the sensing performance. The results show that the SU-8 based sensor has a sensitivity of 154.8 nm/kP a, which is much higher than that of silica based sensor under the same condition. Moreover, the sensor is demonstrated successfully to detect ultrasound from electrode discharge. 展开更多

Mental workload is considered to be strongly linked to human performance,and the ability to measure it accurately is key for balancing human health and work.In this study,brain signals were elicited by mental arithmetic tasks of varying difficulty to stimulate different levels of mental workload.In addition,a finite impulse response(FIR)filter,independent component analysis(ICA),and multiple artifact rejection algorithms(MARAs)were used to filter event-related potentials(ERPs).Then,the data consisting of ERPs,subjective ratings of mental workload,and task performance,were analyzed through the use of variance and Spearman’s correlation during a simulated computer task.We found that participants responded faster and performed better in the easy task condition,followed by the medium and high-difficulty conditions,which verifies the validity of the ERP filtering.Moreover,larger P2 and P3 waveforms were evoked as the task difficulty increased,and a higher task difficulty elicited a more enhanced N300.Correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between the amplitude of P3 and the subjective ratings,and a positive relationship between the P3 amplitude and accuracy.The results presented in this paper demonstrate that a combination of FIR,ICA,and MARA methods can filter ERPs in the non-invasive real-time measurement of workload.Additionally,frontocentral P2,N3,and parietal P3 components showed differences between genders.The proposed measurement of mental workload can be useful for real-time identification of mental states and can be applied to human-computer interaction in the future. 展开更多

High-precision synchronized measurement data with short measurement latency are required for the applications of phasor measurement units(PMUs).This paper proposes a synchrophasor measurement method based on cascaded infinite impulse response(IIR)and dual finite impulse response(FIR)filters,meeting the M-class and P-class requirements in the IEC/IEEE 60255-118-1 standard.A low-group-delay IIR filter is designed to remove out-of-band interference components.Two FIR filters with different center frequencies are designed to filter out the fundamental negative frequency component and obtain synchrophasor estimates.The ratio of the amplitudes of the synchrophasor is used to calculate the frequency according to the one-to-one correspondence between the ratio of the amplitude frequency response of the FIR filters and the frequency.To shorten the response time introduced by IIR filter,a step identification and processing method based on the rate of change of frequency(RoCoF)is proposed and analyzed.The synchrophasor is accurately compensated based on the frequency and the frequency response of the IIR and FIR filters,achieving high-precision synchrophasor and frequency estimates with short measurement latency.Simulation and experiment tests demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to existing methods and can provide synchronized measurement data for M-class PMU applications with short measurement latency. 展开更多

Today,electroencephalography is used to measure brain activity by creating signals that are viewed on a monitor.These signals are frequently used to obtain information about brain neurons and may detect disorders that affect the brain,such as epilepsy.Electroencephalogram(EEG)signals are however prone to artefacts.These artefacts must be removed to obtain accurate and meaningful signals.Currently,computer-aided systems have been used for this purpose.These systems provide high computing power,problem-specific development,and other advantages.In this study,a new clinical decision support system was developed for individuals to detect epileptic seizures using EEG signals.Comprehensive classification results were obtained for the extracted filtered features from the time-frequency domain.The classification accuracies of the time-frequency features obtained from discrete continuous transform(DCT),fractional Fourier transform(FrFT),and Hilbert transform(HT)are compared.Artificial neural networks(ANN)were applied,and back propagation(BP)was used as a learning method.Many studies in the literature describe a single BP algorithm.In contrast,we looked at several BP algorithms including gradient descent with momentum(GDM),scaled conjugate gradient(SCG),and gradient descent with adaptive learning rate(GDA).The most successful algorithm was tested using simulations made on three separate datasets(DCT_EEG,FrFT_EEG,and HT_EEG)that make up the input data.The HT algorithm was the most successful EEG feature extractor in terms of classification accuracy rates in each EEG dataset and had the highest referred accuracy rates of the algorithms.As a result,HT_EEG gives the highest accuracy for all algorithms,and the highest accuracy of 87.38%was produced by the SCG algorithm. 展开更多

A solution of this contradictory behavior is to increase the length of the window which in turn requires more hardware hence increasing the cost of system. This paper proposes a novel window based on two shifted hyperbolic tangent functions. The proposed window contains an adjustable parameter, with the help of which desired time and frequency domain characteristics may be achieved for relatively shorter window length. The characteristics of the proposed window are compared with those of the two well-known adjustable windows namely Cosh window and Exponential window. MATLAB simulation results show that for the same value of window length, the proposed window provides improved output, and thus it makes a good compromise between minimum stopband attenuation and half main-lobe width compared to the windows mentioned previously. 展开更多

Real-time digital audio processing plays a crucial role in modern electronic systems,such as mobile devices,communication platforms,and multimedia applications.However,ensuring high-performance,low-latency processing under hardware constraints remains a significant challenge,particularly when integrating audio codec chips with FPGA platforms.This paper presents the design and implementation of a real-time digital audio processing system using field-programmable gate array(FPGA)technology and the WM8731 audio codec.Firstly,a robust Inter-Integrated Circuit(I2C)interface is developed to configure the WM8731 codec,ensuring accurate initialization and stable operation.Secondly,a serial-to-parallel adaptor(s2p_adaptor)is designed to convert inter-IC sound(I2S)serial audio data into parallel format for digital processing,synchronized with bit and frame clocks.Finally,an 8-tap finite impulse response(FIR)filter is implemented using very high speed integrated circuit(VHSIC)hardware description language(VHDL)to enhance audio quality by suppressing high-frequency noise.All modules are synthesized in Quartus II and verified through ModelSim simulations and practical testing on an Altera DE1 development board.Timing diagrams based on the WM8731 datasheet and internal clock signals ensure precise synchronization.Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the system,while final analysis highlights areas for further optimization and future improvements.Beyond audio applications,the proposed architecture is also adaptable to other real-time signal processing tasks,such as biomedical monitoring,radar front-end filtering,and image preprocessing.This extensibility enhances the system’s relevance in broader embedded and communication contexts. 展开更多
