Highly Efficient Simultaneous Photocatalytic Reduction of CO_(2)and O_(2)from Air Using Conjugated Microporous Polymers with Ionic Imidazolium Sites

Efficient photocatalytic reduction of CO_(2)is crucial to decrease the atmospheric concentration of CO_(2).Pairing this process with H_(2)O_(2)production is of considerable importance for simultaneously producing value-added chemicals.However,the photocatalysts reported for such a process suffer from a high recombination rate of the surface/bulk charges,as well as inefficient enrichment and activation toward CO_(2)and O_(2),resulting in low conversion efficiency even in the presence of organic sacrificial agents and expensive metal co-catalysts.Herein,two 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene-based organic polymers with high ionic density and porosity are prepared through a facile Sonogashira polymerization.The ionic imidazolium sites embedded in the polymeric skeleton provide the two polymers(iCMP-1 and iCMP-2)with adsorptive selectivity for CO_(2)/N_(2) up to 98-102 at 273 K,facilitating the enrichment of CO_(2)and O_(2)molecules around the catalytic centers,thus boosting their catalytic conversion directly from air under solar light(100 mW cm^(-2)).Benefiting from the improved charge separation and broad light absorption,along with high CO_(2)and O_(2)uptake,iCMP-2 can deliver excellent CO and H_(2)O_(2)yields(611.8 and 810.6μmol h^(-1)g^(-1),respectively)under an atmosphere composed of water vapor and air without any co-catalysts. 展开更多

Conversion and capture of carbon pollutants based on carbon dioxide to valuable green oil-field chemicals are target all over the world for controlling the global warming.The present article used new room temperature amphiphilic imidazolium ionic liquids with superior surface activity in the aqueous solutions to convert carbon dioxide gas to superior amphiphilic calcium carbonate nanoparticles.In this respect,tetra-cationic ionic liquids 2-(4-dodecyldimethylamino)phenyl)-1,3-bis(3-dodecyldimethylammnonio)propyl)bromide-1-H-imidazol-3-ium acetate and 2-(4-hexyldimethylamino)phenyl)-1,3-bis(3-hexcyldimethylammnonio)propyl)bromide-1 H-imidazol-3-ium acetate were prepared.Their chemical structures,thermal as well as their carbon dioxide absorption/desorption characteristicswere evaluated.Theywere used as solvent and capping agent to synthesize calcium carbonate nanoparticles with controlled crystalline lattice,sizes,thermal properties and spherical surface morphologies.The prepared calcium carbonate nanoparticles were used as additives for the commercial water based drilling mud to improve their filter lose and rheology.The data confirm that the lower concentrations of 2-(4-dodecyldimethylamino)phenyl)-1,3-bis(3-dodecyldimethylammnonio)propyl)bromide-1-H-imidazol-3-ium acetate achieved lower seawater filter lose and improved viscosities. 展开更多

The application of ionic liquids in perovskite has attracted wide-spread attention for its astounding performance improvement of perovskite solar cells(PSCs).However,the detailed mechanisms behind the improvement remain mysterious.Herein,a series of imidazolium-based ionic liquids(IILs)with different cations and anions is systematically investigated to elucidate the passivation mechanism of IILs on inorganic perovskites.It is found that IILs display the following advantages:(1)They form ionic bonds with Cs^(+)and Pb^(2+)cations on the surface and at the grain boundaries of perovskite films,which could effectively heal/reduce the Cs^(+)/I−vacancies and Pb-related defects;(2)They serve as a bridge between the perovskite and the hole-transport-layer for effective charge extraction and transfer;and(3)They increase the hydrophobicity of the perovskite surface to further improve the stability of the CsPbI_(2)Br PSCs.The combination of the above effects results in suppressed non-radiative recombination loss in CsPbI_(2)Br PSCs and an impressive power conversion efficiency of 17.02%.Additionally,the CsPbI_(2)Br PSCs with IILs surface modification exhibited improved ambient and light illumination stability.Our results provide guidance for an indepth understanding of the passivation mechanism of IILs in inorganic perovskites. 展开更多

Development of high-performance hydroxide-conductive membranes is a focus research subject owing to promising applications in electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)(eCO_(2)RR).However,few satisfactory membranes have been developed to maximize the performance of CO_(2) electrolyzers,despite its role as the core in regulating ion transport and preventing product crossover or fuel loss.Herein,we report the synthesis of alkaline anion-exchange membranes fabricated by poly(vinyl-alcohol)(PVA)and poly[(3-methyl-1-vinylimidazoliummethylsulfate)-co-(1-vinylpyrrolidone)](PQ44)for use in CO_(2) electrolysis.Owing to the unique imidazolium ring structure coupled with a three-dimensional semiinterpenetrating porous internal architecture,the PVA/PQ44-OH-membranes provide a high hydroxide conductivity(21.47 mS cm^(-1)),preferable mechanical property and thermal stability.In particular,the eCO_(2)RR used PVA/PQ44-OH^(-) as electrolyte membrane realized a charming Faradaic efficiency(88%)and partial current density(29 mA cm^(-2))at0.96 VRHE and,delivered the excellent durability over 20 h electrolysis in 0.5 mol L^(-1) KHCO_(3) electrolyte.Notably,it can even enable an ultrahigh current density beyond 100 mA cm^(-2) at^(-1).11 VRHE when the electrolyte was KOH instead,and produced the FEHCOOof 85%at a low potential of0.81 VRHE,superior to both commercial alkaline A201 and acidic Nafion117 membrane. 展开更多

Imidazolium-based elastomeric ionomers (i-BIIR) were facilely synthesized by ionically modified brominated poly(isobutylene-co-isoprene) (BIIR) with different alkyl chain imidazole and thoroughly explored as novel toughening agents for poly(lactic acid) (PLA). The miscibility, thermal behavior, phase morphology and mechanical property of ionomers and blends were investigated through dynamic mechanical analyses (DMA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tensile and impact testing. DMA and SEM results showed that better compatibility between the PLA and i-BIIR was achieved compared to the PLA/unmodified BIIR elastomer. A remarkable improvement in ductility with an optimum elongation at break up to 235% was achieved for the PLA/i-BIIR blends with 1-dodecylimidazole alkyl chain (i-BIIR-12), more than 10 times higher than that of pure PLA. The impact strengths of PLA were enhanced from 1.9 kJ/m2 to 4.1 k J/m2 for the PLA/10 wt% i-BIIR-12 blend. Toughening mechanism had been established by systematical analysis of the compatibility, intermolecular interaction and phase structures of the blends. Interracial cavitations initiated massive shear yielding of the PLA matrix owing to a suitable interfacial adhesion which played a key role in the enormous toughening effect in these blends. We believed that introducing imidazolium group into the BIIR elastomer was vital for the formation of a suitable interfacial adhesion. 展开更多

The antibacterial polyamide 6(PA6)material has attracted great research interest due to its wide ap-plication in food packaging,biomedical fields,functional textiles,and other fields.However,it is still a challenge to prepare intrinsically antibacterial PA6 with highly efficient and durably antibacterial activity via polymerization.Herein,the antibacterial imidazolium ionic liquid of 3-carboxymethyl-1-decyl imida-zole chloride was designed and synthesized for adapting the polymerization and processing temperature of PA6.Then antibacterial PA6(PA6-IL)was synthesized through hydrolyzed ring-opening copolymeriza-tion with imidazolium at the end of the backbones.Compared to physical blending or post-modification methods,antibacterial agents as end-capping reagents of polymer backbones endowed PA6 with intrin-sic antibacterial activity.As expected,the obtained PA6-IL exhibited not just comparable physicochemical and mechanical properties to conventional PA6 but excellent antibacterial activity of low antibacterial time to 60 min and durability for 28 days.Additionally,the corresponding electrospun PA6-IL nanofi-brous membranes showed homogenous morphology and remarkable hydrophilicity of 7.7° as well as the high-efficient antibacterial activity.Melt-spun PA6-IL microfibers revealed a smooth surface as well as enhanced tensile strength and increased breaking elongation compared to those of conventional PA6.The PA6-IL microfibers also behaved with excellent antibacterial efficiency and durability.Accordingly,this work provides a feasible and straightforward strategy to prepare durably and intrinsically antibacterial PA6 materials especially PA6 fibers,which can be widely applied in the textiles field. 展开更多

A novel analytical method was developed for determining morpholinium cations lacking ultraviolet absorption groups.This determination was carried out by high performance liquid chromatographyindirect ultraviolet(HPLC-1UV) detection using imidazolium ionic liquid as background absorption reagents,and imidazolium ionic liquid aq.soln.-organic solvent as mobile phase by a reversed-phase C18 column.The background ultraviolet absorption reagents,imidazolium ionic liquids and organic solvents were investigated.The imidazolium ionic liquid in the mobile phase is not only the background ultraviolet absorption reagent for IUV,but also an active component to improve the separation of morpholinium cations.It was found that morpholinium cations could be adequately determined when0.5 mmol/L 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate aq.soln./methanol(80:20,v/v) was used as mobile phase with an IUV detection wavelength of 210 nm.In this study,the baseline separation of Nmethyl,ethylmorpholinium cations(MEMo) and N-methyl.propylmorpholinium cations(MPMo) was successfully achieved in 8.5 min.The detection limits(S/N = 3) for MEMo and MPMo were 0.15 and0.29 mg/L,respectively.This simple and practical method has been successfully applied to the determination of two morpholinium ionic liquids synthesized by the chemistry laboratory. 展开更多

A novel thiazolothiazole-bridged imidazole derivative(1) was found to exhibit blue fluorescence in gaseous state or in methanol and yellow fluorescence in solid state. The N-alkylation of imidazole subunit(s) in 1 using n-propyl iodide generated unsymmetrically or symmetrically alkylated thiazolothiazolebridged imidazolium salts with good water solubility and remarkably strong emission in solution. Furthermore, the replacement of iodide counter-anion by triflate or bis(trifluoromethane sulfonyl)imide achieved remarkably strong emission in solid state and in solution as well as good water solubility. The strong fluorescence of dicationic salts with triflate and NTf_(2)^(-)counter-anions in solid state can be ascribed to their twisted and rigid structures induced by interionic C-H···F hydrogen bonding. 展开更多

Novel dual-ionic imidazolium salts are shown to display excellent catalytic activity for cycloaddition of carbon dioxide and epoxides under room temperature and atmospheric pressure(0.1 MPa)without any solvent and co-catalyst leading to 96.1%product yield.It can be reused five times to keep the product yield over 90%.These intriguing results are attributed to a new reaction mechanism,which is supported by theoretical calculations along with the measurements of ^(13)C NMR spectrum and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The excellent catalytic activity can be traced to a CO_(2)-philic group along with an electrophilic hydrogen atom.Our work shows that incorporation of CO_(2)-philic group is an feasible pathway to develop the new efficient ionic liquids. 展开更多

The Hartree-Fock method has been employed to investigate the electronic structures of EMIM^+(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium^+), CuCl2^-, Cu2Cl3^-, CuCl3^2-, EMIM+^-CuCl2^-, EMIM^+-Cu2Cl3^-, and EMIM^+-CuCl3^2- pairs. Full optimization and frequency analyses of EMIM^+, CuCl2^-, Cu2Cl3^-, CuC13^-, eight initial EMIM^+-CuCl2^-, six EMIM^+-Cu2Cl3^-, and four EMIM^+-CuCl3^2- geometries have been carried out using Gaussian-94 soft-package at 6-31+G(d,p) basis set level for hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, chlorine atoms and Hay-Wadt effective core potential for copper atom. The electronic structures of lowest energy of EMIM^+-CuCl2^-, EMIM+-Cu2Cl3^-, EMIM^+-CuCl3^2-, single EMIM^+, CuCl2^-, Cu2Cl3^-, and CuCl3^2- have been comparatively studied. The calculated results showed that EMIM^+-CuCl2^- pair conformer of lowest energy was five ring parallel to Cl-Cu-Cl with 3.2A distance, EMIM^+-CuCl3^2- pair conformer of lowest energy was five ring parallel to CuCl3^2-plane with 3.4A distance, and the optimized EMIM^+-Cu2Cl3^- pair conformer of lowest energy was five ring perpendicular to Cl-Cu-Cl-Cu-Cl plane with 3.0A distance between the terminal Cl atoms and the 5-ring of EMIM^+. The cohesion between cations and anions is brought about by C-H. C1 hydrogen bonds that are reinforced by charge assistance. The frequency analyses suggested that all stationary points are minimum because of no appearing of imaginary frequency. The assigned frequencies were in agreement with the experimental report. The low energy of interaction because of the bulkyasymmetry of EMIM+ and the charge dispersion of cation and anion leads to the low melting point of the ionic liquids, EMIM^+-CuCl2^-, EMIM^+-Cu2Cl3^-, and EMIM^+-CuCl3^2-. The interaction energy of EMIM^+-CuCl2^-, EMIM^+-Cu2Cl3^-, and EMIM^+-CuCl3^2- is 309.0 kJ/mol, 316.8 kJ/mol, and 320.2 kJ/mol, respectively. The relationship of interaction energy via distance between cations and anions was also investigated by single point energy scan. 展开更多

The anodic behavior of neodymium in acidic AlCl3-1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride (AIC13-EMIC) ionic liquid was investigated by conducting linear sweep voltammeter and chonopotentiometry. The viscosity of Nd dissolved ionic liquid and the surface morphologies of Nd were characterized using an Ostwald viscometer and a scanning electron microscope, respectively. The chemical composition of Nd surface was indentified by Raman spectra. The results showed that dissolution of Nd under anodic polarization occurred after the breakdown of oxide films. A viscous layer formed at the interface of Nd/ionic liquid during the galvanostatic process of 5 and 20 mA/cm^2. The formation of viscous layer was attributed to the accumulation of Nd dissolved AlCl3-EMIC ionic liquid, which had high viscosity. The oxide films could be removed thoroughly and the surface of Nd was homogeneous without etching pits, when viscous layer formed in the anodic process. A new compound {[Bi(trans-DAM)(cis-DAM)(H2O)]NO3·H2O}n 1 derived from bismuth and the flexible ligand N,N'-diacetic acid imidazolium chloride (H2DAMCl) was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic P21/c space group with a = 9.2298(18), b = 13.339(3), c = 17.090(3) , β = 105.38(2)°, V = 2028.7(7)A^3, Z = 4, C14H18N5O13Bi, Mr = 673.31, Dc = 2.204 g/cm^3, F(000) = 1296, μ = 8.772 mm-1, the final R = 0.0472 and wR = 0.1441 for 4129 observed reflections (I 〉 2σ(I)). In 1, the carboxylic groups from DAM- ligands adopt a cheating mode to link bismuth ions to form a 2D sheet network. These sheets are further connected by hydrogen bonding interactions to give an interesting 3D supramolecular framework. 2D correlation analysis of IR of 1 with thermal and magnetic perturbation was introduced to ascertain the characteristic adsorption of the groups overlapped in the 1D IR spectrum. Additionally, compound 1 exhibits fluorescent emission at room temperature. 展开更多
