Broadband ground motion simulation and analysis of a near-fault 3D basin-mountain coupling site based on the hybrid method

This study presents an effective hybrid simulation approach for simulating broadband ground motion in complex near-fault locations.The approach utilizes a deterministic approach based on the spectral element method(SEM),which is used to simulate low-frequency ground motion(f<1 Hz)by incorporating an innovative efficient discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method for grid division to accurately model basin sedimentary layers at reduced costs.It also introduces a comprehensive hybrid source model for high-frequency random scattering and a nonlinear analysis module for basin sedimentary layers.Deterministic outcomes are combined with modified three-dimensional stochastic finite fault method(3D-EXSIM)simulations of high-frequency ground motion(f>1 Hz).A fourth-order Butterworth filter with zero phase shift is employed for time-domain filtering of low-and high-frequency time series at a crossover frequency of 1 Hz,merging the low and high-frequency ground motions into a broadband time series.Taking an Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake,as an example,this hybrid method was used for a rapid and efficient simulation analysis of broadband ground motion in the region.The accuracy and efficiency of this hybrid method were verified through comparisons with actually observed station data and empirical attenuation curves.Deterministic method simulation results revealed the effects of mountainous topography,basin effects,nonlinear effects within the basin’s sedimentary layers,and a coupling interaction between the basin and the mountains.The findings are consistent with similar studies,showing that near-fault sedimentary basins significantly focus and amplify strong ground motion,and the soil’s nonlinear behavior in the basin influences ground motion to varying extents at different distances from the fault.The mountainous topography impacts the basin’s response to ground motion,leading to barrier effects.This research provides a scientific foundation for seismic zoning,urban planning,and seismic design in nearfault mountain basin regions. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to develop a hybridized discontinuous Galerkin(HDG)method for solving the Ito-type coupled KdV system.In fact,we use the HDG method for discre-tizing the space variable and the backward Euler explicit method for the time variable.To linearize the system,the time-lagging approach is also applied.The numerical stability of the method in the sense of the L2 norm is proved using the energy method under certain assumptions on the stabilization parameters for periodic or homogeneous Dirichlet bound-ary conditions.Numerical experiments confirm that the HDG method is capable of solving the system efficiently.It is observed that the best possible rate of convergence is achieved by the HDG method.Also,it is being illustrated numerically that the corresponding con-servation laws are satisfied for the approximate solutions of the Ito-type coupled KdV sys-tem.Thanks to the numerical experiments,it is verified that the HDG method could be more efficient than the LDG method for solving some Ito-type coupled KdV systems by comparing the corresponding computational costs and orders of convergence. 展开更多

Methodology for Detecting Non-Technical Energy Losses Using an Ensemble of Machine Learning Algorithms

Non-technical losses(NTL)of electric power are a serious problem for electric distribution companies.The solution determines the cost,stability,reliability,and quality of the supplied electricity.The widespread use of advanced metering infrastructure(AMI)and Smart Grid allows all participants in the distribution grid to store and track electricity consumption.During the research,a machine learning model is developed that allows analyzing and predicting the probability of NTL for each consumer of the distribution grid based on daily electricity consumption readings.This model is an ensemble meta-algorithm(stacking)that generalizes the algorithms of random forest,LightGBM,and a homogeneous ensemble of artificial neural networks.The best accuracy of the proposed meta-algorithm in comparison to basic classifiers is experimentally confirmed on the test sample.Such a model,due to good accuracy indicators(ROC-AUC-0.88),can be used as a methodological basis for a decision support system,the purpose of which is to form a sample of suspected NTL sources.The use of such a sample will allow the top management of electric distribution companies to increase the efficiency of raids by performers,making them targeted and accurate,which should contribute to the fight against NTL and the sustainable development of the electric power industry. 展开更多

This study explores the influence of after-school tutoring on reading comprehension skills of students with dyslexia(DD)in grades 3-5 in China and its participating factors.Using a mixed-methods design,the quantitative data(GORT-4 reading test)of 50 public primary school students in Qingdao and their parents’feedback were collected through questionnaires,supplemented by semi-structured interviews with eight parents for qualitative analysis.The findings are as follows:(1)Family socioeconomic status and parents’awareness of DD are the key factors to participate in after-school counseling;(2)The students who participated in the after-school counseling performed significantly better in the GORT-4 comprehension test(P<0.05);(3)Counseling makes up for the lack of classroom learning through personalized strategies(such as multi-sensory teaching and phonological awareness training),but parents’psychological support is the core of successful intervention.The necessity of early targeted intervention was emphasized,and practical enlightenment was provided for the educational support system of DD students in China. 展开更多

Transient simulation are more economical and adaptable means of studying lightning overvoltage for overhead distribution line system compared to experiments.A hybrid multi-transmission-line(MTL)-partial element equivalent circuit(PEEC)method proposed for lightning-induced electromagnetic pulse(LEMP)simulation is verified using the rocket-triggered experimental results under a more complex line configuration for the first time.This method can improve computational efficiency while ensuring calculation accuracy.The agreement between experimental and simulation results further validates the adaptability and accuracy of the proposed method,which is adopted to calculate the LEMP on the extended double-circuit parallel unequal length line.The effects of various factors,such as the strike-point location,the amplitude and waveform of the lightning current,the line shape and length on the amplitude of overvoltage and pole flashover along the line are discussed.For double-circuit distribution lines,when lightning strikes the ground in front of centre of circuit I,the three-phase voltage waveforms are similar,all of which are negative or bipolar oscillation waves.The closer the lightning strike point is to the line,the greater the amplitude of the lightning current,and the voltage waveform develops towards a bipolar waveform,but the main peak remains negative.As the amplitude of lightning current increases,the maximum lightning-induced voltage amplitude along the line increases.The LEMP caused by the subsequent return-stroke current is always greater than that caused by the first returnstroke current.When the grounding resistance increases,the maximum voltage peak amplitude along the line remains unchanged. 展开更多

Local and global optimization methods are widely used in geophysical inversion but each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The combination of the two methods will make it possible to overcome their weaknesses. Based on the simulated annealing genetic algorithm (SAGA) and the simplex algorithm, an efficient and robust 2-D nonlinear method for seismic travel-time inversion is presented in this paper. First we do a global search over a large range by SAGA and then do a rapid local search using the simplex method. A multi-scale tomography method is adopted in order to reduce non-uniqueness. The velocity field is divided into different spatial scales and velocities at the grid nodes are taken as unknown parameters. The model is parameterized by a bi-cubic spline function. The finite-difference method is used to solve the forward problem while the hybrid method combining multi-scale SAGA and simplex algorithms is applied to the inverse problem. The algorithm has been applied to a numerical test and a travel-time perturbation test using an anomalous low-velocity body. For a practical example, it is used in the study of upper crustal velocity structure of the A'nyemaqen suture zone at the north-east edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The model test and practical application both prove that the method is effective and robust. 展开更多

A high-resolution simulation tool for rotorcraft aerodynamics is developed by coupling CFD with a Vorticity Transport Model(VTM). An Eulerian-based CFD module is used to model the blade near body flowfield, and a Lagrangian-based VTM module is employed for vortex tracking in the far wake. The coupling procedure is implemented by transmitting vortex sources to the VTM module and feeding boundary conditions back to the CFD module. The presented CFD/VTM hybrid solver is firstly validated by hover cases of three different rotor configurations. Simulation results, including the blade surface pressure distribution, rotor downwash, and hover figure of merit, exhibit favorable correlations with available experimental data. Then, a rotor operated in vertical descending flight with a fixed collective pitch is investigated. It is shown that the CFD/VTM coupling method is suitable for rotor wake simulation. Wake instabilities(far wake breakdown in hover and toroidal wake pattern in the vortex ring state) are successfully demonstrated with a moderate computational cost. 展开更多

First, an index system for subsea mining method selection was established based on technical feasibility, security status, economic benefit, and management complexity. Next, an evaluation matrix containing crisp numbers and triangular fuzzy numbers(TFNs) was constructed to describe quantitative and qualitative information simultaneously. Then, a hybrid model combining fuzzy theory and the Tomada de Decis?o Interativa Multicritério(TODIM) method was proposed. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed approach was validated by an illustrative example of selecting the optimal mining method in the Sanshandao Gold Mine(China). The robustness of this approach was demonstrated through a sensitivity analysis. The results show that the proposed hybrid TODIM method is reliable and stable for choosing the optimal mining method in subsea deep gold mines and provides references for mining method optimization in other similar undersea mines. 展开更多

Eradicating H pylori may convert rapidly the outcome of related diseases with the use of more accurate diagnostic molecular tests. Indeed some of the tests cannot give the evidence of current infection; H pylori can be detected by noninvasive and invasive methods, the latter requiring an endoscopy. Eradication failure is a big problem in H pylori infection. Recently, clarithromycin resistance in H pylori strains is increasing and eradicati-on therapy of this bacterium is becoming more difficult. Molecular methods have frequently been applied besides phenotypic methods for susceptibility testing to detect clarithromycin resistance due to mutations in the 2143 and 2144 positions of 23S rRNA gene. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method on paraffin embedded tissue is a rapid, accurate and cost-effective method for the detection of H pylori infection and to determine clarithromycin resistance within three hours according to the gold standards as a non-culture method. This method can also be applied to fresh biopsy samples and the isolated colonies from a culture of H pylori, detecting both the culturable bacillary forms and the coccoid forms of H pylori, besides the paraffin embedded tissue secti-ons. This technique is helpful for determining the bac-terial density and the results of treatment where clarith-romycin has been widely used in populations to increase the efficacy of the treatment and to clarify the treatment failure in vitro. 展开更多

A current based hybrid method (HM) is proposed which combines the method of moment (MOM) with the Kirchhoff approximation (KA) for the analysis of scattering interaction between a two-dimensional (2D) infinitely long conducting target with arbitrary cross section and a one-dimensional (1D) Gaussian rough surface. The electromagnetic scattering region in the HM is split into KA region and MOM region. The electric field integral equation (EFIE) in MOM region (target) is derived, the computational time of the HM depends mainly on the number of unknowns of the target. The bistatic scattering coefficient for the infinitely long cylinder above the rough surface with Gaussian roughness spectrum is calculated, and the numerical results are compared and verified with those obtained by the conventional MOM, which shows the high efficiency of the HM. Finally, the influence of the size, location of the target, the rms height and correlation length of the rough surface on the bistatic scattering coefficient with different polarizations is discussed in detail. 展开更多

A hybrid Euler/full potential/Lagrangian wake method,based on single-blade simulation,for predicting unsteady aerodynamic flow around helicopter rotors in hover and forward flight has been developed.In this method,an Euler solver is used to model the near wake evolution and transonic flow phenomena in the vicinity of the blade,and a full potential equation(FPE) is used to model the isentropic potential flow region far away from the rotor,while the wake effects of other blades and the far wake are incorporated into the flow solution as an induced inflow distribution using a Lagrangian based wake analysis.To further reduce the execution time,the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) solution and rotor wake analysis(including induced velocity up-date) are conducted parallelly,and a load balancing strategy is employed to account for the information exchange between two solvers.By the developed method,several hover and forward-flight cases on Caradonna-Tung and Helishape 7A rotors are per-formed.Good agreements of the loadings on blade surface with available measured data demonstrate the validation of the method.Also,the CPU time required for different computation runs is compared in the paper,and the results show that the pre-sent hybrid method is superior to conventional CFD method in time cost,and will be more efficient with the number of blades increasing. 展开更多

At the second predicting stage, each fuzzy neural network is carried out on each cluster and the results from all fuzzy neural networks are combined to be the final result of the hybrid method. The selection of refracturing candidate is one of the most important jobs faced by oilfield engineers. However, due to the complicated multi-parameter relationships and their comprehensive influence, the selection of refracturing candidate is often very difficult. In this paper, a novel approach combining data analysis techniques and fuzzy clustering was proposed to select refracturing candidate. First, the analysis techniques were used to quantitatively calculate the weight coefficient and determine the key factors. Then, the idealized refracturing well was established by considering the main factors. Fuzzy clustering was applied to evaluate refracturing potential. Finally, reservoirs numerical simulation was used to further evaluate reservoirs energy and material basis of the optimum refracturing candidates. The hybrid method has been successfully applied to a tight oil reservoir in China. The average steady production was 15.8 t/d after refracturing treatment, increasing significantly compared with previous status. The research results can guide the development of tight oil and gas reservoirs effectively. 展开更多

The alternative working modes and flexible working states are the outstanding features of an adaptive cycle engine, with a proper control schedule design being the only way to exploit the performance of such an engine. However, unreasonable design in the control schedule causes not only performance deterioration but also serious aerodynamic stability problems. Thus, in this work,a hybrid optimization method that automatically chooses the working modes and identifies the optimal and smooth control schedules is proposed, by combining the differential evolution algorithm and the Latin hypercube sampling method. The control schedule architecture does not only optimize the engine steady-state performance under different working modes but also solves the control-schedule discontinuity problem, especially during mode transition. The optimal control schedules are continuous and almost monotonic, and hence are strongly suitable for a control system, and are designed for two different working conditions, i.e., supersonic and subsonic throttling,which proves that the proposed hybrid method applies to various working conditions. The Lean Blowout(LBO)limit is crucial for the aircraft engines.The semi-empirical(such as Lefebvre’s LBO model and Flame Volume(FV)model),numerical and hybrid methods are widely utilized for the LBO limit quick prediction.An innovative hybrid method based on the FV concept is proposed.This method can be classified as a semi-empirical/physical based hybrid prediction method.In this hybrid method,it is assumed that the flame volume varies nearly linearly with the fuel/air ratio near the LBO.The flame volume is obtained directly by the numerical simulation using the threshold value of the visible flame boundary as 900 K.Then the final LBO limits is determined by the FV model.On the premise of keeping the good generality of prediction,the hybrid method based on the FV concept can further improve the prediction accuracy.The comparison with the prediction of the existing available methods on fifteen combustors shows that the hybrid method based on the FV concept achieves better prediction accuracy.The prediction uncertainties between the experimental results and the predicted values by the hybrid method based on the FV concept are within about±10%. 展开更多

Combining Dual Reciprocity Method (DRM) with Hybrid Boundary Node Method (HBNM), the Dual Reciprocity Hybrid Boundary Node Method (DRHBNM) is developed for three-dimensional linear elasticity problems with body force. This method can be used to solve the elasticity problems with body force without domain integral, which is inevitable by HBNM. To demonstrate the versatility and the fast convergence of this method, some numerical examples of 3-D elasticity problems with body forces are examined. The computational results show that the present method is effective and can be widely applied in solving practical engineering problems. 展开更多

A hybrid method is established by combining photoelastic experiment and finite element analysis.The method is used to evaluate contact stress distribution on dry friction interfaces,such as the contact interfaces between shrouds of fan blades and turbine blades.The photoelastic stress frozen experiment method is used to decide the displacement boundary conditions of numerical calculation.Higher accuracy and efficiency of solving problems are improved by the method.Technical difficulty and high cost of experiment are also avoided by the method.Good agreement of the stress distribution by using the hybrid method and experiment is obtained. 展开更多
