Distribution systems face significant challenges in maintaining power quality issues and maximizing renewable energy hosting capacity due to the increased level of photovoltaic(PV)systems integration associated with varying loading and climate conditions.This paper provides a comprehensive overview on the exit strategies to enhance distribution system operation,with a focus on harmonic mitigation,voltage regulation,power factor correction,and optimization techniques.The impact of passive and active filters,custom power devices such as dynamic voltage restorers(DVRs)and static synchronous compensators(STATCOMs),and grid modernization technologies on power quality is examined.Additionally,this paper specifically explores machine learning and AI-driven solutions for power quality enhancement,discussing their potential to optimize system performance and facilitate renewable energy integration.Modern optimization algorithms are also discussed as effective procedures to find the settings for power system components for optimal operation,including the allocation of distributed energy resources and the tuning of control parameters.Added to that,this paper explores the methods to maximize renewable energy hosting capacity while ensuring reliable and efficient system operation.By synthesizing existing research,this review aims to provide insights into the challenges and opportunities in distribution system operation and optimization,highlighting future research directions that enhance power quality and facilitate renewable energy integration. 展开更多

The penetration rate of distributed generation is gradually increasing in the distribution system concerned.This is creating new problems and challenges in the planning and operation of the system.The intermittency and variability of power outputs from numerous distributed renewable generators could significantly jeopardize the secure operation of the distribution system.Therefore,it is necessary to assess the hosting capability for intermittent distributed generation by a distribution system considering operational constraints.This is the subject of this study.An assessment model considering the uncertainty of generation outputs from distributed generators is presented for this purpose.It involves different types of regulation or control functions using on-load tap-changers(OLTCs),reactive power compensation devices,energy storage systems,and the reactive power support of the distributed generators employed.A robust optimization model is then attained It is solved by Bertsimas robust counterpart through GUROBI solver.Finally,the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated by a modified IEEE 33-bus distribution system.In addition,the effects of the aforementioned regulation or control functions on the enhancement of the hosting capability for intermittent distributed generation are examined. 展开更多

To facilitate the large-scale integration of distributed wind generation(DWG), the uncertainty of DWG outputs needs to be quantified, and the maximum DWG hosting capacity(DWGHC) of distribution systems must be assessed. However, the structure of the high-dimensional nonlinear dependencies and the abnormal marginal distributions observed in geographically dispersed DWG outputs lead to the increase of the complexity of the uncertainty analysis. To address this issue,this paper proposes a novel assessment model for DWGHC that considers the spatial correlations between distributed generation(DG) outputs. In our method, an advanced dependence modeling approach called vine copula is applied to capture the high-dimensional correlation between geographically dispersed DWG outputs and generate a sufficient number of correlated scenarios. To avoid an overly conservative hosting capacity in some extreme scenarios, a novel chance-constrained assessment model for DWGHC is developed to determine the optimal sizes and locations of DWG for a given DWG curtailment probability. To handle the computational challenges associated with large-scale scenarios, a bilinear variant of Benders decomposition(BD) is employed to solve the chance-constrained problem.The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using a typical 38-bus distribution system in eastern China. 展开更多

The smart distribution network(SDN)is integrat ing increasing distributed generation(DG)and energy storage(ES).Hosting capacity evaluation is important for SDN plan ning with DG.DG and ES are usually invested by users or a third party,and they may form friendly microgrids(MGs)and operate independently.Traditional centralized dispatching meth od no longer suits for hosting capacity evaluation of SDN.A quick hosting capacity evaluation method based on distributed optimal dispatching is proposed.Firstly,a multi-objective DG hosting capacity evaluation model is established,and the host ing capacity for DG is determined by the optimal DG planning schemes.The steady-state security region method is applied to speed up the solving process of the DG hosting capacity evalua tion model.Then,the optimal dispatching models are estab lished for MG and SDN respectively to realize the operating simulation.Under the distributed dispatching strategy,the dual-side optimal operation of SDN-MGs can be realized by several iterations of power exchange requirement.Finally,an SDN with four MGs is conducted considering multiple flexible resources.It shows that the DG hosting capacity of SDN oversteps the sum of the maximum active power demand and the rated branch capacity.Besides,the annual DG electricity oversteps the maximum active power demand value. 展开更多

Despite their high theoretical capacity and energy density,lithiumsulfur(Li–S)batteries still face challenges such as soluble lithium polysulfides(LiPSs)shuttling and sluggish redox kinetics.In this work,we used a novel MoS_(2)-Mo_(2)C heterostructure anchored on a carbon sponge(CS)as a Li_(2)S host to solve these problems.A simple hydrothermal process following carbothermal reduction was used to construct the MoS_(2)-Mo_(2)C heterostructure,enabling control of the phases and integration of MoS_(2) and Mo_(2)C.Structural characterization confirmed the coherent interface of the heterostructure with a precise orientation relationship between the two phases and their uniform distribution.An evaluation of the adsorption and catalytic performance of the material showed that it has an exceptional LiPSs adsorption capacity with faster conversion from Li_(2)S_(4) to Li_(2)S_(2).Density functional theory calculations further confirmed these results.As a result,the cathode had a high initial discharge capacity of 693 mAh g^(−1) at 0.2 C and achieved stable cycling at 2 C for 500 cycles with a low decay rate of 0.107%per cycle.The heterostructure design,coupled with the macroporous CS framework,effectively prevented the shuttling and increased sulfur utilization,offering a promising way to produce practical high-energydensity Li–S batteries. 展开更多

Dependence of distributed generation(DG)outputs and load plays an essential role in renewable energy accommodation.This paper presents a novel DG hosting capacity(DGHC)evaluation method for distribution networks considering highdimensional dependence relations among solar radiation,wind speed,and various load types(i.e.,commercial,residential,and industrial).First,an advanced dependence modeling method called regular vine(R-vine)is applied to capture the complex dependence structure of solar radiation,wind speed,commercial loads,industrial loads,and residential loads.Then,a chanceconstrained DGHC evaluation model is employed to figure out maximum hosting capacity of each DG and its optimal allocation plan with different operational risks.Finally,a Benders decomposition algorithm is also employed to reduce computational burden.The proposed approaches are validated using a set of historical data from China.Results show dependence among different DGs and loads has significant impact on hosting capacity.Results also suggest using the R-vine model to capture dependence among distributed energy resources(DERs)and load.This finding provides useful advice for distribution networks in installing renewable energy generations. 展开更多

Converting body heat into electricity presents an appealing route for sustainably powering wearable electronics;however,conventional thermoelectric materials face significant drawbacks,including high ionic concentrations,toxicity,and limited thermoelectric efficiency.Here,we report an ionic thermoelectric hydrogel designed through precise supramolecular chemistry,utilizing dual molecular interactions,host-vip complexation ofα-cyclodextrin(α-CD)with I_(3)^(-)ions and hydrogen bonding between polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)polymer chains and I_(3)^(-).This molecularly tailored approach markedly amplifies thermoelectric performance,achieving a high thermopower of 2.21 mV/K and a tenfold enhancement in peak power output at an exceptionally low iodine concentration(10 mmol/L I^(-)+2.5 mmol/L I_(3)^(-)).The hydrogel maintains excellent biocompatibility and mechanical robustness,suitable for direct skin contact.Demonstrated applications include flexible thermoelectric devices generating nearly 100 mV from body heat and sensor arrays capable of motion and spatial temperature sensing.These results underscore the substantial potential of supramolecularly designed ionic thermoelectric hydrogels for wearable energy harvesting,personalized healthcare monitoring,and advanced human-computer interfaces. 展开更多

Fungi play crucial roles in nutrient acquisition,plant growth promotion,and the enhancement of resistance to both abiotic and biotic stresses.However,studies on the fungal communities associated with peas (Pisum sativum L.) remain limited.In this study,we systematically investigated the ecological effects of host niches (soil,root,stem,leaf,and pod) and genotypes on the diversity and composition of fungal communities in peas using a multi-level approach that encompassed pattern recognition (β-diversity decomposition),mechanism validation (neutral community model testing),and dynamic tracking methods (migration pathway source-tracking).The results revealed that the dominant fungal phyla across niches and genotypes were Ascomycota,Basidiomycota,and Mortierellomycota,and the community structures of the soil–plant continuum were primarily determined by the pea niches rather than genotypes.β-diversity decomposition was largely attributed to species replacement rather than richness differences,indicating strong niche specificity and microbial replacement across microhabitats.Neutral model analysis revealed that stochastic processes influenced genotypeassociated communities,while deterministic processes played a dominant role in niche-based community assembly.Source-tracking analysis identified niche-to-niche fungal migration,with Erysiphe,Fusarium,Cephaliophora,Ascobolus,Alternaria,and Aspergillus as the key genera.Migration rates from exogenous to endogenous niches were low (1.3–61.5%),whereas those within exogenous (64.4–83.7%) or endogenous (73.9–96.4%) compartments were much higher,suggesting that the pea epidermis acts as a selective barrier that filters and enriches microbial communities prior to internal colonization.This study provides comprehensive insights into the mechanisms of host filtering,enrichment and microbial sourcing,which increases our understanding of the assembly rules of the pea-associated fungal microbiome. 展开更多

Interactions between selenium-containing peptide Ser-Phe-Gln-SeM and intestinal microbiota:implications for antioxidant mechanism and host metabolism

The antioxidant activity of selenium-containing soybean peptides(SePPs)has been previously demonstrated,despite their limited absorption in the small intestine.This study investigates the antioxidant mechanism of a selenium-containing tetrapeptide,Ser-Phe-Gln-SeM(SFQSeM),identified from SePPs,with particular emphasis on its interaction with the intestinal microbiota and its role in modulating host antioxidant defenses.The effects of SFQSeM were evaluated in a D-galactose-induced oxidative stress model and an antibiotictreated mouse model.SFQSeM supplementation significantly reduced the oxidative stress in D-galactosetreated mice.It also promoted the growth of beneficial bacteria and increased the levels of acetate,butyrate and lactate in the intestine(P<0.05).In the antibiotic-treated mouse model,depletion of the intestinal microbiota significantly reduced hepatic glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity(26.6%)and glutathione peroxidase 1(GPx-1)expression(48.77%)compared to normal mice supplemented with SFQSeM(P<0.05).In contrast to Na_(2)SeO_(3)and selenomethionine,SFQSeM effectively restored the diversity of the intestinal microbiota disrupted by antibiotics.Lactobacillus,Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group,and Muribaculaceae were identified as predominant bacteria in the SFQSeM group,and were strongly associated with increased hepatic GSH-Px activity and GPx-1 mRNA expression(P<0.05).In conclusion,intestinal microbiota enhances the antioxidant efficacy of SFQSeM by modulating microbial composition,producing active metabolites,and converting SFQSeM into a bioactive form of selenium. 展开更多

The intrinsic insulation and drastic volume change of the red phosphorus during the 3-electron alloying process greatly limits its widespread applications in sodium-ion batteries.Here,we report a monomicelle-directed assembly approach for controllable synthesis of monodispersed mesoporous polypyrrole(PPy)nanospheres,which allows for the shape-preserving conversion into N-doped carbon with regular mesoscopic pore and high surface area,thus affording a high dispersion of red phosphorus during melt impregnation process due to the available diffusion apertures and strong molecular chemical anchoring.Moreover,the theoretical calculations further revealed that positively polarized pyridine N atoms in N-doped mesoporous carbon nanospheres can empower comprehensive regulation of red phosphorus adsorption by strong chemical binding.Benefitting from the above advantages,the resultant red phosphorus host for sodium-ion batteries delivered an outstanding reversible capacity of 856 mAh/g with a capacity fading rate of only 0.025%per cycle during 1000 cycles at 1.0 A/g.This work provides an effective approach based on monomicelle-directed assembly engineering of carbon-based phosphorus hosts for advanced energy conversion and storage systems. 展开更多

The Role of the Gut Microbiome in Clinical Outcomes of Colorectal Cancer:A Systematic Review(2020-2025)

Background:The Colorectal Cancer(CRC)pathogenesis and therapeutic efficacy are influenced by the gut microbiome,making it a promising biomarker for predicting treatment responses and adverse effects.This systematic review aims to outline the gut microbiome composition in individuals with CRC undergoing the same therapeutic regimen and evaluate interindividual microbiome profile variations to better understand how these differences may influence therapeutic outcomes.Methods:Key studies investigating the microbiome’s role in therapeutic approaches for CRC were searched in both PubMed and Cochrane databases on 12 and 22 March 2025,respectively.Eligible studies included free full-text English-language randomized clinical trials and human observational studies reporting on gut microbiome composition and treatment outcomes.RoB 2 and ROBINS-I were employed in the evaluation of bias for randomized trials and observational studies,respectively.Data extracted was narratively analyzed.Results:Six studies involving a total of 361 individuals were included.Therapeutic interventions,either standard treatments and/or those targeting the gut microbiome,generally increased probiotic taxa and reduced pro-carcinogenic bacteria.However,no consistent pattern of improved clinical outcomes was observed,suggesting that treatment mechanisms,the tumor’s nature,and individual characteristics play critical roles in microbiome modulation.Conclusion:The gut microbiome holds significant potential in clinical settings.Nonetheless,further research is needed to better understand its functional aspects and to consider the influence of treatment mechanisms,the tumor’s nature,and individual characteristics as modulators,in order to optimize clinical outcomes. 展开更多
