Zika virus(ZIKV)is a mosquito-borne virus belonging to the genus Orthoflavivirus,and the family Flaviviridae.It commonly presents with febrile-like symptoms,neurological issues,and pregnancy complications in humans.Currently,there is no commercial vaccine or specific treatment available to prevent ZIKV infection.Therefore,controlling the epidemic's spread relies on preventing mosquitoes from transmitting the virus.Although various studies have explored the transmission of ZIKV between mosquitoes and vertebrate hosts,comprehensive research on potential mosquito-to-mosquito transmission of ZIKV remains limited.In this study,we conducted systematic laboratory investigations to assess the ability of ZIKV to spread among mosquitoes,and to evaluate the impact of ZIKV infection on mosquito development.Our findings revealed that ZIKV can be transmitted between Aedes aegypti mosquitoes both vertically and horizontally,through oviposition and contact between mosquitoes of the same or opposite sex.Additionally,we observed that ZIKV infection resulted in a reduction in the number of mosquito eggs but an increase in their size.The widespread distribution of ZIKV in infected mosquitoes and the altered levels of hormone related genes following viral infection were noted,which may contribute to viral transmission among mosquitoes and affect mosquito development.This research provides systematic experimental evidence of ZIKV transmission among mosquitoes,which is crucial for developing novel strategies to disrupt the spread of orthoflaviviruses and other mosquitoborne pathogens. 展开更多

Vertical gradients of neutral winds observed by ICON and estimated by the Horizontal Wind Model during the geomagnetic storm on August 26−28,2021

The Michelson Interferometer for Global High-resolution Thermospheric Imaging(MIGHTI)onboard the Ionospheric Connection Explorer(ICON)satellite offers the opportunity to investigate the altitude profile of thermospheric winds.In this study,we used the red-line measurements of MIGHTI to compare with the results estimated by Horizontal Wind Model 14(HWM14).The data selected included both the geomagnetic quiet period(December 2019 to August 2022)and the geomagnetic storm on August 26-28,2021.During the geomagnetic quiet period,the estimations of neutral winds from HWM14 showed relatively good agreement with the observations from ICON.According to the ICON observations,near the equator,zonal winds reverse from westward to eastward at around 06:00 local time(LT)at higher altitudes,and the stronger westward winds appear at later LTs at lower altitudes.At around 16:00 LT,eastward winds at 300 km reverse to westward,and vertical gradients of zonal winds similar to those at sunrise hours can be observed.In the middle latitudes,zonal winds reverse about 2-4 h earlier.Meridional winds vary more significantly than zonal winds with seasonal and latitudinal variations.According to the ICON observations,in the northern low latitudes,vertical reversals of meridional winds are found at 08:00-13:00 LT from 300 to 160 km and at around 18:00 LT from 300 to 200 km during the June solstice.Similar reversals of meridional winds are found at 04:00-07:00 LT from 300 to 160 km and at 22:00-02:00 LT from 270 to 200 km during the December solstice.In the southern low latitudes,meridional wind reversals occur at 08:00-11:00 LT from 200 to 160 km and at 21:00-02:00 LT from 300 to 200 km during the June solstice.During the December solstice,reversals of the meridional wind appear at 20:00-01:00 LT below 200 km and at 06:00-11:00 LT from 300 to 160 km.In the northern middle latitudes,the northward winds are dominant at 08:00-14:00 LT at 230 km during the June solstice.Northward winds persist until 16:00 LT at 160 and 300 km.During the December solstice,the northward winds are dominant from 06:00 to 21:00 LT.The vertical variations in neutral winds during the geomagnetic storm on August 26-28 were analyzed in detail.Both meridional and zonal winds during the active geomagnetic period observed by ICON show distinguishable vertical shear structures at different stages of the storm.On the dayside,during the main phase,the peak velocities of westward winds extend from a higher altitude to a lower altitude,whereas during the recovery phase,the peak velocities of the westward winds extend from lower altitudes to higher altitudes.The velocities of the southward winds are stronger at lower altitudes during the storm.These vertical structures of horizontal winds during the storm could not be reproduced by the HWM14 wind estimations,and the overall response to the storm of the horizontal winds in the low and middle latitudes is underestimated by HWM14.The ICON observations provide a good dataset for improving the HWM wind estimations in the middle and upper atmosphere,especially the vertical variations. 展开更多

Elucidating the mechanisms underlying community assembly remains a central question in community ecology,especially in aquatic ecosystems disrupted by human activities.Understanding the causes and consequences of community responses to changing environment is essential for revealing the ecological effects of anthropogenic disturbances and proposing practical strategies for ecological restoration.While stochastic dispersal and species sorting are known to influence local biological communities,most studies have focused on horizontal dispersal,often neglecting the vertical exchange of organisms between planktonic and sedimentary communities when studying stochastic dispersal.We used a highly disturbed urban river in Beijing as a model system to investigate the relative roles of stochastic dispersal versus species sorting driven by local pollution,as well as two components of stochastic dispersal,vertical exchange and horizontal dispersal,in structuring local bacterial communities.Our integrated analyses of planktonic and sedimentary bacterial communities revealed that,despite different spatial patterns along the river,both types of bacterial communities were primarily shaped by stochastic dispersal processes rather than species sorting influenced by the environmental gradient.Notably,in addition to the effect of horizontal dispersal along the river,the vertical exchange between planktonic and sedimentary bacterial communities significantly contributed to the formation of local communities.These findings suggest that both vertical exchange and horizontal dispersal should be considered when assessing the role of stochastic dispersal in shaping local community structure in microbial communities. 展开更多

Identifying geohazards such as landslides and methane leakage is crucial during gas extraction from natural gas hydrate(NGH)reservoirs,and understanding reservoir settlement behavior is central to this assessment.Horizontal wells can enlarge the pressure relief zone within the formation,improving single-well productivity,and are therefore considered a promising approach for NGH development.This study examines the settlement response of hydrate-bearing sediments during depressurization using horizontal wells.A fully coupled thermal,hydraulic,mechanical,and chemical(THMC)model with representative reservoir properties(Shenhu region in the South China Sea)is presented accordingly.The simulations show that lower production pressures,while increasing gas output,also intensify formation settlement.The maximum difference in settlement between the lowest and highest production pressures reaches 0.016 m,contributing to more pronounced differential subsidence.Optimal well placement,specifically targeting a low-saturation hydrate zone containing free gas and situated adjacent to a high-saturation hydrate layer,markedly improves both gas production rate and cumulative yield,while reducing overall settlement and limiting changes in effective stress. 展开更多

Optimizing plant architecture for specific cultivation methods is essential for enhancing fruit productivity.Unlike indeterminate growth plants,the total productivity of determinate growth plants relies on cumulative fruit production and synchronized fruit ripening from both main and axillary shoots.Here,we focused on SlD14and SlMAX1,two key genes involved in the regulation of strigolactone(SL)signaling and biosynthesis,with the goal of maximizing yield and syn chronizing fruit ripening by fine-tuning axillary shoot growth.Using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9)technology,we found that the sld14,slmax1,and sld14 slmax1mutant plants exhibited reduced plant height and increased axillary shoot proliferation compared to wild-type plants.However,these mutants showed reduced yield and delayed ripening,likely due to a source-sink imbalance caused by excessive axillary shoot development.A weak sld14 allele displayed a milder phenotype,maintaining total fruit yield and harvest index despite smaller individual fruit size.These findings indicate that allelic variation in SL-related genes can influence plant architecture and yield components.Our results suggest that weak or partial alleles may serve as promising targets for tailoring tomato architecture to space-limited cultivation systems. 展开更多

Flowback Behavior of Deep Coalbed Methane Horizontal Wells

Significant differences exist between deep and medium-shallow coalbed methane(CBM)reservoirs.The unclear understanding of flowback and production behavior severely constrains the development of deep CBM resources.To address this challenge,guided by the gas-liquid two-phase flow theory in ultra-low permeability reservoirs,and integrating theoretical analysis,numerical simulation,and insights from production practices,this study classifies the flowback and production stages of deep CBM well considering the Daning-Jixian Block,Eastern Ordos Basin as a representative case.We summarize the flowback characteristics for each stage and establish a standard flowback production type curve,aiming to guide field operations.The results indicate that:(a)The production process of deep CBM horizontal wells can be divided into five distinct stages:initial single-phase water dewatering stage,initial gas appearance to peak water production stage,gas breakthrough to peak gas production stage,stable production and decline stage,and low-rate production stage.(b)Based on reservoir energy,two standard type curves for horizontal well flowback production are established:the‘Sufficient Reservoir Energy’type and the‘Insufficient Reservoir Energy’type.The former achieves a higher initial gas rate(up to 12×10^(4)m^(3)/d)but exhibits poorer stability,while the latter achieves a lower stable rate(up to 8×10^(4)m^(3)/d)but demonstrates stronger stability.Numerical simulation confirms these behavioral patterns and reveals the underlying mechanisms related to the effectively drained area where pressure is significantly depleted.The findings from this study have guided the flowback production operations in 53 deep CBM wells with positive results,demonstrating high potential for broad application. 展开更多

This study investigates the width of the secondary eyewall(SE)immediately following its formation in tropical cyclones with surface environmental winds aligned and counter-aligned with environmental vertical wind shear(VWS),using idealized numerical experiments.Results reveal that the SE develops greater radial extent when surface winds align with VWS compared to counter-aligned conditions.In alignment configurations,shear-enhanced surface winds on the right flank amplify surface enthalpy fluxes,thereby elevating boundary-layer entropy within the downshear outer-core region.Subsequently,more vigorous outer rainbands develop,inducing marked acceleration of tangential winds in the outer core preceding SE formation.The resultant radial expansion of supergradient winds near the boundary-layer top triggers widespread convective activity immediately beyond the inner core.Progressive axisymmetrization of this convective forcing ultimately generates an expansive SE structure. 展开更多

Vertical Structure and Energy Transfer of Stationary Planetary Waves in Different Prescribed Atmospheric Stratifications

This study investigates the relationship between atmospheric stratification (i.e., static stability given by N^(2)) and the vertical energy transfer of stationary planetary waves, and further illustrates the underlying physical mechanism. Specifically, for the simplified case of constant stratospheric N^(2), the refractive index square of planetary waves has a theoretical tendency to increase first and then decrease with an increased N^(2), whereas the group velocity weakens. Mechanistically, this behavior can be understood as an intensified suppression of vertical isentropic surface displacement caused by meridional heat transport of planetary waves under strong N^(2) conditions. Observational analysis corroborates this finding, demonstrating a reduction in the vertical-propagation velocity of waves with increased N^(2). A linear, quasi- geostrophic, mid-latitude beta-plane model with a constant background westerly wind and a prescribed N^(2) applicable to the stratosphere is used to obtain analytic solutions. In this model, the planetary waves are initiated by steady energy influx from the lower boundary. The analysis indicates that under strong N^(2) conditions, the amplitude of planetary waves can be sufficiently increased by the effective energy convergence due to the slowing vertical energy transfer, resulting in a streamfunction response in this model that contains more energy. For N^(2) with a quasi-linear vertical variation, the results bear a resemblance to the constant case, except that the wave amplitude and oscillating frequency show some vertical variations. 展开更多

Two-step-processed(TSP)inverted p-i-n perovskite solar cells(PSCs)have demonstrated significant promise in tandem applications.However,the power conversion efficiency(PCE)of TSP p-i-n PSCs rarely exceeds 24%.Here,we demonstrate that TSP perovskite films exhibit a vertically gradient distribution of residual PbI_(2)clusters,which form Schottky heterojunctions with the perovskite,leading to substantial interfacial energy-level mismatches within NiO_(x)-based TSP p-i-n PSCs.These limitations were effectively addressed via a vertical interfacial engineering enabled by dual-interface modification incorporating tin trifluoromethanesulfonate(Sn(OTF)_(2))and 4-Fluorophenylethylamine chloride(F-PEA)at the NiO_(x)/perovskite and perovskite/C60 interfaces,respectively.The functional Sn(OTF)_(2)not only enhances the conductivity of NiO_(x)films but also suppresses ion migration,while inducing the formation of a Pb-Sn mixed perovskite interlayer that precisely regulates the energy level at the NiO_(x)/perovskite interface.Complementally,F-PEA post-treatment effectively converts surface residual PbI_(2)clusters into a 2D perovskite capping layer,which simultaneously passivates surface defects and enhances energy-level alignment at the perovskite/C60 interface.Consequently,the optimized NiO_(x)-based TSP p-i-n PSCs achieve a notable PCE of 25.6%with superior operational stability.This study elucidates the underlying mechanisms limiting the efficiency of TSP p-i-n PSCs,while establishing design principles for these devices targeting 26%efficiency. 展开更多

Control of ash yield on vertical pore structure development and its impact on coalbed methane adsorption in the deep coal seams of the Ordos Basin

The vertical heterogeneity of the pore structure in deep coal seams with varying ash yields is a key control for coalbed methane storage and producibility;however,its specific impact on gas adsorption is not clearly defined.The focus of this study is the No.8 coal seam of the Carboniferous Benxi Formation in the Central-Eastern Ordos Basin.By integrating microscopic identification,proximate analysis,gas adsorption(CO_(2),N_(2),and CH_(4)),and the multifractal theory,we quantitatively characterized the nanopore structure(micropores<2 nm and mesopores 2 nm-100 nm)of coal reservoirs with varying ash yields.The results indicate that(1)ash yield is the primary factor that controls the vertical evolution of pore structures in coal seams.In low-ash yield coal seams,the extent of thermal evolution and ash yield jointly constrain the heterogeneity of pore size distribution.In mediumto high-ash yield coal seams,the heterogeneity of pore structure and pore size distribution are predominantly constrained by ash yield.(2)As the ash yield vertically increases,the mesoporous pore volume and specific surface area initially decrease and subsequently increase,while the contribution of micropores to both pore volume and specific surface area continuously diminishes.Consequently,the total pore volume and specific surface area of the coal samples exhibit a two-stage reduction close to an ash yield threshold of approximately 20%.(3)Further,the Langmuir volume for CH_(4)adsorption sharply declines below the 20%threshold,followed by a gradual decrease;in contrast,the Langmuir pressure initially decreases and subsequently increases.Hence,the vertical increase in ash yield constrains the development of pore systems and diminishes pore connectivity,thereby reducing methane adsorption capacity and adversely affecting coalbed methane productivity.(4)Low-ash yield coal reservoirs are characterized by a rapid gas breakthrough and high productivity,whereas medium-ash yield coal reservoirs generally require prolonged depressurization to achieve peak gas production.These findings reveal that in medium-high rank coal,ash yield―and not thermal evolution―is the main factor that controls vertical pore evolution and methane adsorption efficiency.The quantitative ash yield threshold(20%)established in this study provides a practical criterion for evaluating reservoir quality and predicting vertical variations in gas storage potential in the Ordos Basin. 展开更多

With the continuous development of the offshore wind industry,the design concept of composite foundation has been given attention in the past decade.This paper presents an accurate method for investigating the horizontal vibration of monopile-friction wheel composite foundations in layered saturated soil.Firstly,the three-dimensional continuum mechanics theory with the range of linear elasticity is introduced to calculate the frictional resistance distributed on the upper soil surface.Then,the resistances of multilayered soils and inviscid seawater to the pile shaft under horizontal harmonic excitation are obtained using Novak's plane strain model,Biot's porous media theory and radiationwave theory.Thirdly,the expressions for the deformation,bending moment and internal force of the Euler-Bernoulli pile are derived using the boundary conditions with definitephysical meaning and transfer matrix method.By comparing with the results of 1g laboratory test and the idealized formula reported by the literature,the rationality and accuracy of the developed dynamical model can be verified.Finally,this paper conducts a series of worked examples to investigate the influencesof the elastic modulus and thickness of three-layer saturated soil and the location of interlayer soil on the horizontal dynamic vibration of composite foundation.The results show that an increase in elastic modulus of the surface soil is an effective way to improve the dynamic stability of the composite foundation in service conditions.The conclusions drawn from the numerical examples can develop some guidelines for the current foundation design of offshore wind turbines. 展开更多

With the rapid advancement of optoelectronic technology,high-performance photodetectors are increasingly in demand in fields such as environmental monitoring,optical communication,and defense systems,where ultraviolet detection is critical.However,conventional semiconductor materials suffer from limited UV-visible detection capabilities owing to their narrow bandgaps and high dark currents.To address these challenges,wide-bandgap semiconductors have emerged as promising alternatives.Here,we fabricated a horizontally structured n–n heterojunction photodetector by growingβ-Ga_(2)O_(3) on Si–GaN via plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition.The device exhibits a self-powered photocurrent of 3.5 nA at zero bias,enabled by the photovoltaic effect of the space charge region.Under 254-nm and 365-nm illumination,it exhibits rectification behavior,achieving a responsivity of 0.475 m A/W(0 V,220??W/cm~2 at 254 nm)and 257.6 mA/W(-5 V),respectively.Notably,the photodetector demonstrates a high photocurrent-to-dark current ratio of 10~5 under-5-V bias,highlighting its potential for self-powered and high-performance UV detection applications. 展开更多

AIM:To evaluate the clinical outcomes of a new minimally invasive technique using horizontal mattress sutures and Hoffman pockets for four-point refixation of dislocated fourhaptic intraocular lenses(IOLs).METHODS:This retrospective consecutive case series included eyes with dislocated Akreos AO60 IOLs underwent scleral refixation using a horizontal mattress doubleneedle suture technique with intralamellar knot burial via Hoffman pockets.Clinical outcomes assessed included pre-and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),spherical equivalent(SE),suture duration,IOL centration,and perioperative complications.RESULTS:A total of 10 eyes from 10 patients(6 males)were included.The mean age at the time of IOL refixation was 53.10±13.07y(range:28-68y).The mean interval between initial IOL implantation and dislocation was 8.44±3.54y.The mean postoperative follow-up duration was 11.45±10.30mo.Surgical time averaged 15.3±1.77min,with no intraoperative complications.The mean axial length was 27.16±4.35 mm,with high myopia(HM)as the leading comorbidity(4/10 eyes).Postoperative BCVA significantly improved compared to preoperative values(P=0.025).Postoperative SE was significantly improved compared with preoperative(P=0.01).All IOLs remained centered throughout follow-up.CONCLUSION:This minimally invasive four-point scleral fixation technique offers a safe and effective refixation strategy for dislocated four-haptic IOLs.The horizontal mattress suture configuration combined with Hoffman pockets facilitates durable centration,avoids conjunctival dissection,and could be adopted into routine surgical practice. 展开更多

Edge detection and enhancement techniques are commonly used in recognizing the edge of geologic bodies using potential field data. We present a new edge recognition technology based on the normalized vertical derivative of the total horizontal derivative which has the functions of both edge detection and enhancement techniques. First, we calculate the total horizontal derivative (THDR) of the potential-field data and then compute the n-order vertical derivative (VDRn) of the THDR. For the n-order vertical derivative, the peak value of total horizontal derivative (PTHDR) is obtained using a threshold value greater than 0. This PTHDR can be used for edge detection. Second, the PTHDR value is divided by the total horizontal derivative and normalized by the maximum value. Finally, we used different kinds of numerical models to verify the effectiveness and reliability of the new edge recognition technology. 展开更多

To determine the grid resolutions of the WRF model in the typhoon simulation,some sensitivity analysis of horizontal and vertical resolutions in different conditions has been carried out.Different horizontal resolutions(5,10,20,30 km),nesting grids(15 and 5 km),different vertical resolutions(35-layers,28-layers,20-layers)and different top maximum pressures(1 000,2 000,3 500,5 000 Pa)had been used in the mesoscale numerical model WRF to simulate the Typhoon Kai-tak.The simulation results of typhoon track,wind speed and sea level pressure at different horizontal and vertical resolutions have been compared and analyzed.The horizontal and vertical resolutions of the model have limited effect on the simulation effect of the typhoon track.Different horizontal and vertical resolutions have obvious effects on typhoon strength(defined by wind speed)and intensity(defined by sea level pressure,SLP),especially for sea level pressure.The typhoon intensity simulated by the high-resolution model is closer to the real situation and the nesting grids can improve computational accuracy and efficiency.The simulation results affected by vertical resolution using 35-layers is better than the simulation results using 20-layers and 28-layers simulations.Through comparison and analysis,the horizontal and vertical resolutions of WRF model are finally determined as follows:the two-way nesting grid of 15 and 5 km is comprehensively determined,and the vertical layers is 35-layers,the top maximum pressure is 2 000 Pa. 展开更多

The pulse features of a bubble have a close connection with the boundary condition. When a bubble moves near a rigid wall, it will be attracted by the Bjerknes force of the wall, and a jet pointing at the wall will be generated. In real application, the bubble may move under the combined action of walls in different directions when it forms at the corner of a pipe or at the bottom of a dam. The motion of the bubble shows complex and nonlinear characteristics under these conditions. In order to investigate the bubble pulse features near complex walls, a horizontal wall and a vertical wall are put into the experimental water tank synchronously, and an electric circuit with 200 voltages is designed to generate discharge bubbles, and then experimental study on the bubble pulse features under the combined action of horizontal and vertical walls is carried out. The influences of the combined action of two walls on the bubble shape, pulse period, moving trace and inside jet are obtained by changing the distances from bubble center to the two walls. The influence of local site effects on seismic ground motions is an important issue in seismic hazard assessment and earthquake resistant design. Determining site effects in densely populated cities built on basins can help to reduce the earthquake hazard. Site effects of Luoyang basin are estimated by the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio(HVSR) method using ambient noise records from a short-period dense array. The sites in Luoyang basin are sorted into three types according to the pattern of the HVSR curves. There are cases with a single clear peak, two clear peaks, and an unclear low frequency peak or multiple peaks, which correspond to there being one large impedance contrast interface, two large interfaces, and a moderate one beneath the sites, respectively. The site effects characterized by fundamental frequency from HVSR curves are affected by underlying sedimentary layers and depth of sedimentary basement. According to our results, the existence of thick sediment layer obviously lowers the fundamental frequency to the period range from 2 to 4 s in the downtown area of Luoyang city. The ground motion will amplify when through the sites and the buildings with height of 20–50 floors can resonate at the similar frequency domain. Site effects estimation using HVSR method from a short-period dense array is an effective technique in areas of moderate seismic risk where strong motion recordings are lacking, such as the Luoyang basin. 展开更多

Rapid urbanization has resulted in pervasive occurrence of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)in urban aquatic ecosystems.However,limited information is available concerning the ARG profiles and the forces responsible for their assembly in urban landscape lagoon systems.Here,we employed high-throughput quantitative PCR(HT-q PCR)to characterize the spatial variations of ARGs in surface and core sediments of Yundang Lagoon,China.The results indicated that the average richness and absolute abundance of ARGs were 11 and 53 times higher in the lagoon sediments as compared to pristine reference Tibetan lake sediments,highlighting the role of anthropogenic activities in ARG pollution.Co-occurrence network analysis indicated that various anaerobic prokaryotic genera belonging to Alpha-,Deltaproteobacteria,Bacteroidetes,Euryarchaeota,Firmicutes and Synergistetes were the potential hosts of ARGs.The partial least squares-path modeling(PLS-PM)analysis revealed positive and negative indirect effects of physicochemical factors and heavy metals on the lagoon ARG profiles,via biotic factors,respectively.The horizontal(mediated by mobile genetic elements)and vertical(mediated by prokaryotic communities)gene transfer may directly contribute the most to drive the abundance and composition of ARGs,respectively.Furthermore,the neutral community model demonstrated that the assembly of sediment ARG communities was jointly governed by deterministic and stochastic processes.Overall,this study provides novel insights into the diversity and distribution of ARGs in the benthic habitat of urban lagoon systems and underlying mechanisms for the spread and proliferation of ARGs. 展开更多
