Artificial Intelligence and Innovation in Manufacturing Enterprises:Theoretical Framework and Empirical Testing

This study empirically examines the impact,mechanisms,and heterogeneity of artificial intelligence(AI)on innovation in manufacturing enterprises,using data from Chinese A-share listed companies(2011-2022).Using fixed-effects models and mediation analysis,we find that AI significantly drives innovation in manufacturing,a conclusion supported by various robustness checks.The development of AI enables manufacturing enterprises to achieve cost savings and workforce upgrading.Mechanism analysis identifies two key channels through which AI fosters innovation:increasing talent compensation and widening wage disparities.Heterogeneity tests reveal stronger innovation effects in non-state-owned enterprises,firms in the mature and declining stages,industries with lower concentration,and enterprises located in central and eastern China.Further analysis shows that AI’s impact on substantive innovation is non-linear and moderated by technological intensity and economic uncertainty.Based on these findings,we propose policy recommendations,including the steadfast promotion of intelligent transformation,stage-differentiated implementation,enhanced talent cultivation and policy support,and the accelerated realization of AI’s innovation potential. 展开更多

With the promotion of the“Belt and Road Initiative”,Chinese sporting goods manufacturing enterprises are increasingly active in foreign investment in countries along the route,but due to regional differences,the investment risks they face are becoming increasingly complex.Based on CNKI and Web of Science databases,this paper systematically combines the theoretical framework and research progress of sporting goods manufacturing enterprises’outbound investment and its risk research,and focuses on analyzing the evolution,motivation,characteristics,and risk generation mechanism of enterprises’outbound investment mode.It further discusses the types and causes of investment risks,the evolution and application of risk assessment methods,and deeply analyzes the unique risk characteristics of sports manufacturing enterprises.On this basis,combined with the shortcomings of existing research,a future research direction is put forward,which provides a reference for follow-up theoretical research and practical operation. 展开更多

Investment Risk Assessment of Sporting Goods Manufacturing Enterprises in Countries Along the Belt and Road Initiative

With the continuous promotion of the Belt and Road initiative,the sporting goods manufacturing industry,as a key sector of Chinese enterprises’“going global”strategy,is actively expanding the markets of countries along the Belt and Road.However,there are significant differences in political,economic,and social environments among countries along the Belt and Road,which bring considerable uncertainties to the transnational investment of enterprises.Based on the investment environment of 70 countries along the Belt and Road,this paper constructs a risk evaluation index system including five dimensions:political and legal,economic and financial,socio-cultural,investment environment,and bilateral relations.The Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation(CRITIC)method is used to determine weight,Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS)method is employed to evaluate the investment risks of each country.Furthermore,cluster analysis is used to classify the countries into low,medium,and high-risk levels.Finally,policy recommendations are proposed based on the characteristics of countries with different risk levels,providing decision-making references for sporting goods manufacturing enterprises in selecting suitable countries for investment,enhancing risk prevention capabilities,and improving investment success rates. 展开更多

This paper takes global manufacturing listed companies from 2010 to 2022 as samples and uses the difference-in-differences(DID)method to empirically examine the impact of the internationalization of ESG standards on the trade competitiveness of multinational enterprises and their mechanisms.The research finds that the internationalization of ESG standards significantly enhances the trade competitiveness of multinational manufacturing enterprises,and this effect is dynamic and sustainable.The mechanism analysis indicates that the internationalization of ESG standards exerts its influence through three pathways:reducing enterprise financing costs,promoting technological innovation,and enhancing brand reputation.The heterogeneity analysis shows that this effect is more significant in enterprises from developed countries,high-pollution industries,and larger enterprises.This paper provides micro-level evidence for understanding the economic consequences of the internationalization of ESG standards and offers policy implications for multinational enterprises to cope with the global ESG rule changes and enhance their trade competitiveness. 展开更多

Although new technologies have been deeply applied in manufacturing systems,manufacturing enterprises are still encountering difficulties in maintaining efficient and flexible production due to the random arrivals of diverse customer requirements.Fast order delivery and low inventory cost are fundamentally contradictory to each other.How to make a suitable production-triggering strategy is a critical issue for an enterprise to maintain a high level of competitiveness in a dynamic environment.In this paper,we focus on production-triggering strategies for manufacturing enterprises to satisfy randomly arriving orders and reduce inventory costs.Unified theoretical models and simulation models of different production strategies are proposed,including time-triggered strategies,event-triggered strategies,and hybrid-triggered strategies.In each model,both part-production-triggering strategies and product-assembly-triggering strategies are considered and implemented.The time-triggered models and hybrid-triggered models also consider the impact of the period on system performance.The results show that hybrid-triggered and time-triggered strategies yield faster order delivery and lower inventory costs than event-triggered strategies if the period is set appropriately. 展开更多

Industry 4.0 concepts have brought about a wind of renewal in the organization of companies and their production methods. However, this integration is subject to obstacles when it comes to Small and Medium sized Enterprises—SMEs: the costs of new technologies to be acquired, the level of maturity of the company regarding its level of digitization and automation, human aspects such as training employees to master new technologies, reluctance to change, etc. This article provides a new framework and presents an intelligent support system to facilitate the digital transformation of SMEs. The digitalization is realized through physical, informational, and decisional points of view. To achieve the complete transformation of the company, the framework combines the triptych of performance criteria (cost, quality, time) with the notions of sustainability (with respect to social, societal, and environmental aspects) and digitization through tools to be integrated into the company’s processes. The new framework encompasses the formalisms developed in the literature on Industry 4.0 concepts, information systems and organizational methods as well as a global structure to support and assist operators in managing their operations. In the form of a web application, it will exploit reliable data obtained through information systems such as Enterprise Resources Planning—ERP, Manufacturing Execution System—MES, or Warehouse Management System—WMS and new technologies such as artificial intelligence (deep learning, multi-agent systems, expert systems), big data, Internet of things (IoT) that communicate with each other to assist operators during production processes. To illustrate and validate the concepts and developed tools, use cases of an electronic manufacturing SME have been solved with these concepts and tools, in order to succeed in this company’s digital transformation. Thus, a reference model of the electronics manufacturing companies is being developed for facilitating the future digital transformation of these domain companies. The realization of these use cases and the new reference model are growing up and their future exploitation will be presented as soon as possible. 展开更多

The manufacturing industry is an important pillar of the national economy.It is of vital importance to develop statistical modellings in order to quantify the relationship between potential internal drivers and the trend of output values in the manufacturing industry.However,only a few statistical modellings have been established to investigate such associations.This study developed the correlation coefficient model and generalized linear model(GLM)to measure the single and interactive effects of the internal drivers on the changes of the output values.For the GLM,different predictive variables were developed to fit into the dataset,and the performance of the models were compared using fitness parameters.Furthermore,an industry survey dataset for 1,180 manufacturing enterprises in 2020 was used to validate the models.The use of the GLM combining land area,number of employees,scientific research input,and labor productivity may have a great potential to bolster capacity in monitoring and predicting the trend of output values in the manufacture industry. 展开更多
