The pushover analysis method was used to study the failure mechanism and ductility of SRC transferring structure through consulting pseudo-static test results for the structure. And, the occurrence order and position of the plastic hinge, the weak story and seismic capacity of high building with SRC transferring story were also studied through consulting shaking table test results for the high building, showing that the seismic behavior of high building with SRC transferring story is good. 展开更多

Evaluation of Disaster Risks, Vulnerabilities and Response Strategies of High Rise Buildings in Lagos Municipality

Although disasters can occur anywhere, certain types of disasters are more likely to have more effects on some buildings than others, especially on those in urban areas. Buildings in Lagos have had nasty experiences from both natural and artificial disasters, claiming lives and properties in the past. This study aims at evaluating the disaster risks, vulnerabilities and response strategies in the high rise buildings in Lagos municipality. Structured questionnaire was administered to building owners, estate managers and disaster managers who manage the high rise buildings. The information obtained was supplemented by personal interviews conducted with tenants and rescue organizations. The study identified collapse of building, fire out break, and communication and power failure as the most likely potential disasters, power failure and collapse had the highest severity of impact, and the degree of preparedness achieved to confront the disasters was below satisfaction. However, the specific status of the response strategies was as expected, but there was room for improvements. The potential disasters were natural, human and environmental and the most vulnerable sectors were other properties rather than the high rise buildings themselves. The magnitude of risk levels could be contained with the level of response strategies already achieved if coordinated. 展开更多

Unfortunately, airtightness produces the negative effect of increasing the indoor concentration of air pollutants like radon. Despite the seriousness of the problem is generally misconceived, long-term exposition to radon is acknowledged to be the second cause of lung cancer after smoke. With the development of the economic and low⁃carbon society,high⁃performance building(HPB)design plays an increasingly important role in the architectural area.The performance of buildings usually includes the building energy consumption,building interior natural daylighting,building surface solar radiation,and so on.Building performance simulation(BPS)and multiple objective optimizations(MOO)are becoming the main methods for obtaining a high performance building in the design process.Correspondingly,the BPS and MOO are based on the parametric tools,like Grasshopper and Dynamo.However,these tools are lacking the data analysis module for designers to select the high⁃performance building more conveniently.This paper proposes a toolkit“GPPre”developed based on the Grasshopper platform and Python language.At the end of this paper,a case study was conducted to verify the function of GPPre,which shows that the combination of the sensitivity analysis(SA)and MOO module in the GPPre could aid architects to design the buildings with better performance. 展开更多

Publicly available building energy data are exploding--thirteen American cities and 14 states now require them by law. This emergence of data nudges building owners and tenants to reduce energy consumption by comparing their usage to that of similar buildings. However, vast untapped energy reductions and deeper physical understandings can still be extracted from these data. This paper extends the energy saving impact and provides key insight into building performance through publicly-disclosed data by describing three initiatives at a large design finn. An internal high performance design reporting program compares projects from around the world and across offices. A case study of 706 buildings in New York City illustrates the value of tracking large-scale patterns to a design firm. Per capita energy and carbon usage is correlated to life expectancy to better inform neighborhood and city design. Indoor air dynamics and quality in high density residential buildings can be complex as it is affected by both building parameters,pollution sources,and outdoor meteorological conditions.The present study used CONTAM simulations to investigate the intra-building transport and concentration of an inert pollutant continuously emitted from an underground garage of a 15-floor building under moderate Mediterranean weather.The effects of outdoor meteorological conditions(air temperature,wind speed and direction)on indoor distribution of the emitted pollutant was tested under constant conditions.The importance of using actual transient meteorological data and the impact of their temporal resolution on calculated concentrations and exposure levels were also investigated.Vertical profiles of air exchange rate(AER)and CO concentration were shown to be sensitive to indoor-outdoor temperature difference,which controls the extent of the stack effect and its importance relative to wind effect.Even under constant conditions,transient mode simulations revealed that the time needed for pollutant distribution to reach steady state can be quite long(>24h in some cases).The temporal resolution(Ih vs.8h)of the meteorological data input was also found to impact calculated exposure levels,in an extent that varied with time,meteorological conditions and apartment position. 展开更多
