In high speed continuous casting of peritectic steel slabs, mold fluxes with high basicity are required for less surface defect product. However, the basicity of remaining liquid slag film tends to decrease in casting process because of the crystallization of 3CaO ·2SiO2 · CaF2. Thus, a way is put forward to improve mold fluxesr properties by raising the original basicity. In order to confirm the possibility of this method, the effect of rising original basicity on the properties of mold fluxes is discussed. Properties of high fluorine based mold fluxes with different basicities and contents of CaF2 , Na2 O, and MgO were measured, respectively. Then, properties of higher basicity mold fluxes were discussed and compared with traditional ones. The results show that increasing the basicity index can improve the melting and flow property of mold fluxes. With the increasing basicity, crystallization rate of mold fluxes increases obviously and crystallization temperature tends to decrease when the basicity exceeds 1.35. The method presen- ted before is proved as a potential way to resolve the contradiction between horizontal heat transfer controlling and solidified shell lubricating for peritectic steel slab casting. But further study on improving the flow property of liquid slag is needed. This work can be used to guide mold fluxes design for high speed continuous casting of peritectic steel slabs. 展开更多

The transformation of inclusions was studied when control technology of refining top slag in ladle furnace was used in X80 pipeline steelmaking.Sufficient amount of aluminum was added to experimental heats for final deoxidation during BOF tapping,and then the refining top slag with high basicity and strong reducibility was adopted to transform Al 2 O 3 to inclusions with low melting point.The results show that the composition of inclusions changes in order of"Al 2 O 3→MgO-Al 2 O 3 system→CaO-MgO-Al 2 O 3 system→CaO-Al 2 O 3 system".And the inclusions after LF refining are liquid or semi-liquid state at the temperature of steelmaking,which are easily removable to obtain high cleanliness steel by collision,agglomeration and flotation. 展开更多

Because the formation behavior of primary slag which decomposed from complex calcium ferrite(SFCA-I and SFCA)is not quite clear,the migration behavior of CaO and Al_(2)O_(3) derived from high basicity or high alumina sinter is always worth studying.The reducibility of three representative sinter samples and the formation behavior of primary slag during reduction process were investigated via X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,and energy-dispersive spectroscopy characterization.The results show that the reducibility of high basicity sinter is superior to that of high alumina sinter.Minerals with poor reducibility like hercynite and brownmillerite and with large-grained particles like free alumina and silica form in sinters with basicity of 2.4 and Al_(2)O_(3) content of 4 wt.%,respectively.The appearance of these minerals can well explain the reduction stagnation phenomenon occurring in these sinter samples.The migration behavior of CaO and Al_(2)O_(3) during slag formation process is different.CaO can easily combine with SiO2 to form silicate phase or firstly form calcium-rich ferro-aluminate solid solution and then transform to silicate phase,while Al_(2)O_(3) firstly combines with CaO and FeO to form solid solution and then,gradually combines with SiO2 to form calcium aluminum silicate phase. 展开更多
