A new 300 MVA/1350 MJ motor generator (MG) will be built to feed all of the poloidal field power supplies (PFPS) and auxiliary heating power supplies of the HL-2M tokamak. The MG has a vertical-shaft salient pole 6-phase synchronous generator and a coaxial 8500 kW induction motor. The Ohmic heating power supply (OHPS) consisting of 4-quadrant DC pulsed convertor is the one with the highest parameters among the PFPS. Therefore, the match between the generator and the OHPS is very important. The matching study with Matlab/Simulink is described in this paper. The simulation results show that the subtransient reactance of the generator is closely related to the inversion operation of the OHPS. By setting various subtransient reactance in the simulation generator model and considering the cost reduction, the optimized parameters are obtained as xd" = 0.405 p.u. at 100 Hz for the generator. The models built in the simulation can be used as an important tool for studying the dynamic characteristics and the control strategy of other HL-2M PFPSes. 展开更多

Micro heat pipes(MHP) cooling is one of the most efficient solutions to radiate heat for high heat flux electronic components in data centers. It is necessary to improve heat transfer performance of microgroove back plate heat pipes. This paper discusses about influence on thermal resistance through experiments and numerical simulation with different working fluids, filling ratio and heat power. Thermal resistance of the CO2 filled heat pipe is 14.8% lower than the acetone filled heat pipe. In the meantime, at the best filling ratio of 40%, the CO2 filled heat pipe has the optimal heat transfer behavior with the smallest thermal resistance of 0.123 K/W. The thermal resistance continues to decline but the magnitude of decreases is going to be minor. In addition, this paper illustrates methods about how to enhance heat pipe performance from working fluids, filling ratio and heat power, which provides a theoretical basis for practical applications. 展开更多

As a potentially viable renewable energy, Enhanced Geothermal Systems(EGSs) extract heat from hot dry rock(HDR) reservoirs to produce electricity and heat, which promotes the progress towards carbon peaking and carbon neutralization. The main challenge for EGSs is to reduce the investment cost. In the present study, thermo-economic investigations of EGS projects are conducted. The effects of geofluid mass flow rate, wellhead temperature and loss rate on the thermo-economic performance of the EGS organic Rankine cycle(ORC) are studied. A performance comparison between EGS-ORC and the EGS combined heating and power system(CHP) is presented. Considering the CO_(2)emission reduction benefits, the influence of carbon emission trading price on the levelized cost of energy(LCOE) is also presented. It is indicated that the geofluid mass flow rate is a critical parameter in dictating the success of a project. Under the assumed typical working conditions, the LCOE of EGS-ORC and EGS-CHP systems are 24.72 and 16.1 cents/k Wh, respectively. Compared with the EGS-ORC system, the LCOE of the EGS-CHP system is reduced by 35%. EGS-CHP systems have the potential to be economically viable in the future. With carbon emission trading prices of 12.76 USD/ton, the LCOE can be reduced by approximately 8.5%. 展开更多

The increasing pace of urbanization means that cities and global organizations are looking for ways to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions. Combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) systems have the potential to improve the energy generation efficiency of a city or urban region by providing energy for heating, cooling, and electricity simultaneously. The purpose of this study is to estimate the water consumption for energy generation use, carbon dioxide (CO2) and NOx emissions, and economic impact of implementing CCHP systems for five generic building types within the Atlanta metropolitan region, under various operational scenarios following the building thermal (heating and cooling) demands. Operating the CCHP system to follow the hourly thermal demand reduces CO2 emissions for most building types both with and without net metering. The system can be economically beneficial for all building types depending on the price of natural gas, the implementation of net metering, and the cost structure assumed for the CCHP system. The greatest reduction in water consumption for energy production and NOx emissions occurs when there is net metering and when the system is operated to meet the maximum yearly thermal demand, although this scenario also results in an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and, in some cases, cost. CCHP systems are more economical for medium office, large office, and multifamilv residential buildings. 展开更多

To improve heating uniformity and anthocyanin content of the blueberry pulp under microwave heating, the intermittent variable power microwave heating technology was introduced in the study. The effects of technology parameters in terms of high microwave intensity heating time, intermittent time, low microwave intensity and low microwave intensity heating time on the blueberry pulp quality parameters(heating uniformity, average moisture content, the highest temperature and anthocyanin content)were investigated by using the response surface method. The results showed that the longer heating time under different microwave intensities resulted in the poorer heating uniformity. The intermittent stage promoted heat and mass transfer within the pulp and reduced the temperature difference and moisture gradient within the pulp, which enhanced desired uniformity of temperature and moisture distribution before entering the low microwave intensity heating stage. Therefore, the longer the intermittent time, the greater the heating uniformity. The optimal parameters were developed as high microwave intensity of 4 W·g^(-1),high microwave intensity heating time of 9.86 min, intermittent time of 10 min,low microwave intensity of 2.2 W·g^(-1)and low microwave intensity heating time of 6 min. This research might provide guidance for microwave heating berry fruits. 展开更多

The universal mathematical model of an engine is established, and an economical zone,in which an engine mainly provides medium output load at medium speed,is presented.Based on the experimental data and the universal model of such an engine above,a mathematical model of a refitted engine is provided. The boundary of the corresponding economical zone is further demarcated, and the optimal operating curve and the operating point of the engine are analyzed. Then, the energy transforming models of the power system are established in the mode of cooling, heating and power(MCHP),the mode of heating and power(MHP)and the mode of electricity powering(MEP).The parameter matching of the power system is optimized according to the transmission ratios of the gear box in the power distribution system. The results show that,in the MCHP,the speed transmission ratio of the engine to the gear box(ies)and the speed transmission ratio of the motor to the gear box(ims)are defined as 2.9 and 1,respectively;in the MHP,when the demand load of the power system is less than the low critical load of the economical zone, the speed transmission ratio of the motor to the engine(ime)is equal to 1,and when the demand load of the power system exceeds the low critical load of the economical zone, ime equals 0.85;in the MEP,the optimal value of ims is defined as 2.5. 展开更多

To achieve the goals of sustainable development of the energy system and the construction of a lowcarbon society, this study proposes a multi-energy storage collaborative optimization strategy for industrial park that integrates the laddered carbon trading mechanism with demand response.Firstly,a dual dimensional DR model is constructed based on the characteristics of load elasticity. The alternativeDRenables flexible substitution of energy loads through complementary conversion of electricity/heat/cold multi-energy sources, while the price DR relies on timeof-use electricity price signals to guide load spatiotemporal migration;Secondly, the LCT mechanism is introduced to achieve optimal carbon emission costs through a tiered carbon quota allocation mechanism. On this basis,an optimization decision model is established with the core objective of maximizing the annual net profit of the park. The objective function takes into account energy sales revenue, generator unit costs, and investment and operation costs of multiple types of energy storage facilities.Themodel constraint system covers three key dimensions:dynamic operation constraints of power generation units, including unit output limits, ramping capability, and minimum start-stop time;the physical boundary of an electric/hot/cold multi-energy storage system involves energy storage capacity and charge/discharge efficiency; The multi-energy network coupling balance equation ensures that the energy conversion and transmission process satisfies the law of conservation of energy.Using CPLEX mathematical programming solver for simulation verification, construct an energy storage capacity configuration decision process that includes LCT-DR synergistic effect. The research results show that compared with the traditional single energy storage configuration mode, this strategy effectively enhances the economic feasibility and engineering practicality of industrial park operation by coordinating demand side resource scheduling and finely controlling carbon costs, while maintaining stable system operation. Its methodological framework provides a technical path that combines theoretical rigor and practical operability for the low-carbon transformation of regional integrated energy systems. 展开更多

To improve the overall thermal efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle( ORC), a simulation study was carried out for a combined heat and power( CHP) system, using the Redlich-Kuang-Soave( RKS) equation of state. In the system,R245 fa was selected as the working fluid. A scroll expander was modeled with empirical isentropic expansion efficiency.Plate heat exchangers were selected as the evaporator and the condenser, and detailed heat transfer models were programmed for both one-phase and two-phase regions. Simulations were carried out at seven different heat source temperatures( 80,90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 ℃) in combination with eight different heat sink temperatures( 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50,55 ℃). Results showthat in the ORC without an internal heat exchanger( IHE), the optimum cycle efficiencies are in the range of 7. 0% to 7. 3% when the temperature differences between the heat source and heat sink are in the range of 70 to90 ℃. Simulations on CHP reveal that domestic hot water can be produced when the heat sink inlet temperature is higher than40 ℃, and the corresponding exergy efficiency and overall thermal efficiency are 29% to 56% and 87% to 90% higher than those in the non-CHP ORC, respectively. It is found that the IHE has little effect on the improvement of work output and efficiencies for the CHP ORC. 展开更多

This paper built a combined heat and power(CHP) dispatch model for wind-CHP system with solid heat storage device(SHS) aiming at minimizing system coal consumption, and set system demand-supply balance and units' operation conditions as the operation constraints. Furthermore, robust stochastic optimization theory was used to describe wind power output uncertainty. The simulation result showed that SHS increased CHP peak-valley shifting capability and reduced abandoned wind rate from 12% to 6%, and reduced 5% coal consumption, compared with the original system operation by flexible charging electric power and heating. The payback period of employing SHS in wind-CHP system is far shorter than SHS expected service life. 展开更多

A new water-cooling Gardon-type heat power measuring apparatus is designed to meet the need of heat power source management and distribution. The steady state measurement mathe- matic model of the apparatus is built up in theory and the system amplification coefficient is defined as the ratio of the heat power to the temperature difference of the device, with which the value of the measured source power can be calculated easily with the corresponding temperature difference. In order to obtain an optimal heat power measuring system, the coefficients that can influence the relationship between the amplification coefficient, the temperature difference, and the heat power are analyzed. On the basis of these analyses, a set of experimental device is constructed and a num- ber of experiments are carried on. Compared with the input heat power sample data, the error of the experimental measuring results is less than 4-2%, and the experimental measuring values are in good agreement with the calculated theoretical ones. The heat power measuring apparatus can be applied in heat flux or heat power measurement in other fields due to its simple structure and high accuracy. 展开更多

Thus, a CHP plant can produce both electricity and heat. The nature of such a combination makes the process more complex than any single power generation process or boiler heating system. The paper focuses on modelling study and analysis of energy efficiency of the University of Warwick micro-CHP power plant. In this CHP modelling study, a gas turbine module is built to provide driving power and methane is used as fuel gas. Heat recovery system and auxiliary boiler modules are developed for thermal power generation. All the sub-systems are validated by comparing the simulation results with the operating data collected from the CHP plant. The dynamic performance of the key CHP process outputs is studied with respect to the variation of the input syngas stream, including electricity generation, thermal power output and water output temperature. Simplified controllers are also applied to the gas engineheat recovery subsystem and auxiliary boiler. Simulation results with/without feedback control are both analyzed. The study has highlighted the key factors which influence the plant performance and suggested the strategy for potential energy efficiency improvement. 展开更多

Low critical temperature limits the application of CO_2 trans-critical power cycle. The binary mixture of R290/CO_2has higher critical temperature.Using mixture fluid may solve the problem that subcritical CO_2 is hardly condensed by conventional cooling water. In this article, theoretical analysis is executed to study the performance of the zeotropic mixture for trans-critical power cycle using low-grade liquid heat source with temperature of200℃.The results indicated that the problem that CO_2 can't be condensed in power cycle by conventional cooling water can be solved by mixing R290 to CO_2.Variation trend of outlet temperature of thermal oil in supercritical heater with heating pressure is determined by the composition of the mixture fluid.Gliding temperature causes the maximum outlet temperature of cooling water with the increase of mass fraction of R290.There are the maximum values for cycle thermal efficiency and net power output with the increase of supercritical heating pressure. 展开更多

This paper presents the solution to the combined heat and power economic dispatch problem using a direct solution algorithm for constrained optimization problems. With the potential of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) production to increase the efficiency of power and heat generation simultaneously having been researched and established, the increasing penetration of CHP systems, and determination of economic dispatch of power and heat assumes higher relevance. The Combined Heat and Power Economic Dispatch (CHPED) problem is a demanding optimization problem as both constraints and objective functions can be non-linear and non-convex. This paper presents an explicit formula developed for computing the system-wide incremental costs corresponding with optimal dispatch. The circumvention of the use of iterative search schemes for this crucial step is the innovation inherent in the proposed dispatch procedure. The feasible operating region of the CHP unit three is taken into account in the proposed CHPED problem model, whereas the optimal dispatch of power/heat outputs of CHP unit is determined using the direct Lagrange multiplier solution algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied to a test system with four units and results are provided. 展开更多

This work illustrates the steady state, two dimensional natural convective flow and heat transfer features in square enclosure containing heated hexagonal block maintained either at constant wall temperature(CWT) or uniform heat flux(UHF) thermal conditions. Governing equations(mass, momentum and energy) are solved by using finite volume method(FVM) with 3rd order accurate QUICK discretization scheme and SIMPLE algorithm for range of field pertinent parameters such as, Grashof number(10~3≤ Gr ≤ 10~6), Prandtl number(1 ≤ Pr ≤ 100) and power law index(0.5 ≤ n ≤ 1.5). The analysis of momentum and heat transfer characteristics are delineated by evolution of streamlines, isotherms, variation of average Nusselt number value and Colburn factor for natural convection(j_(nH)). A remarkable change is observed on fluid flow and thermal distribution pattern in cavity for both thermal conditions. Nusselt number shows linear variation with Grashof and Prandtl numbers; while rate of heat transfer by convection decreases for power law index value. Higher heat transfer rate can be achieved by using uniform heat flux condition. A Nusselt number correlation is developed for possible utilization in engineering/scientific design purpose. 展开更多

To improve energy conversion efficiency, optimization of the working fluids in organic Rankine cycles(ORCs) was explored in the range of low-temperature heat sources. The concept of unit-heat-exchange-area(UHEA) net power, embodying the cost/performance ratio of an ORC system, was proposed as a new indicator to judge the suitability of ORC working fluids on a given condition. The heat exchange area was computed by an improved evaporator model without fixing the minimum temperature difference between working fluid and hot fluid, and the flow pattern transition during heat exchange was also taken into account. The maximum UHEA net powers obtained show that dry organic fluids are more suitable for ORCs than wet organic fluids to recover low-temperature heat. The organic fluid 1-butene is recommended if the inlet temperature of hot fluid is 353.15-363.15 K or443.15-453.15 K, heptane is more suitable at 373.15-423.15 K, and R245 ca is a good option at 483.15-503.15 K. 展开更多

The experiments were carried out: Electrolysis in heavy water with a Pd cathode, electrolysis in light water with Ni and Pd cathodes, the glow discharge in deuterium with a Pd cathode. Excess heat was observed in experiments with high-voltage electrolysis (1,000 V or more). The experiments showed that the maximum excess heat power values of 5-8 W for glow discharge and 180-280 W for high-voltage electrolysis and heat efficiency up to 170% for glow discharge, and 800% for high-voltage electrolysis. The determination of source-side extracted heating parameters is of great significance to the economic operation of cogeneration systems. This paper investigated the coupling performance of a cogeneration heating and power system multidimensionally based on the operating characteristics of the cogeneration units, the hydraulic and thermodynamic characteristics of the heating network, and the energy loads.Taking a steam network supported by a gas-steam combined cycle cogeneration system as the research case, the interaction effect among the source-side prime movers, the heating networks, and the terminal demand thermal parameters were investigated based on the designed values, the plant testing data, and the validated simulation. The operating maps of the gas-steam combined cycle cogeneration units were obtained using THERMOFLEX,and the minimum source-side steam parameters of the steam network were solved using an inverse solution procedure based on the hydro-thermodynamic coupling model. The cogeneration operating maps indicate that the available operating domain considerably narrows with the rise of the extraction steam pressure and flow rate. The heating network inverse solution demonstrates that the source-side steam pressure and temperature can be optimized from the originally designed 1.11 MPa and 238.8°C to 1.074 MPa and 191.15°C,respectively.Under the operating strategy with the minimum source-side heating parameters, the power peak regulation depth remarkably increases to 18.30%whereas the comprehensive thermal efficiency decreases. The operation under the minimum source-side heating steam parameters can be superior to the originally designed one in the economy at a higher price of the heating steam. At a fuel price of$0.38/kg and the power to fuel price of 0.18 kg/(kW·h),the critical price ratio of heating steam to fuel is 119.1 kg/t.The influence of the power-fuel price ratio on the economic deviation appears relatively weak. 展开更多
