Femoral head necrosis(FHN) is a common leg disorder in the poultry industry often leads to significant cartilage damage.The mechanism behind abnormal apoptosis in FHN broilers,leading to cartilage damage,remains uncle...Femoral head necrosis(FHN) is a common leg disorder in the poultry industry often leads to significant cartilage damage.The mechanism behind abnormal apoptosis in FHN broilers,leading to cartilage damage,remains unclear;although endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS) has been found to play a role in glucocorticoid-induced FHN broilers.In this study,we collected samples from broilers with femoral head separation(FHS) and femoral head separation accompanied with growth plate lacerations(FHSL) in a broiler farm.The aim was to investigate the potential association between the severity of FHN,bone remodeling and cartilage damage.Additionally,primary chondrocytes were treated with methylprednisolone(MP) to construct an in vitro FHN model,followed by inhibition or activation of ERS or hypoxia inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) to further investigate the mechanism of apoptosis in cartilage.The results suggested that cartilage appeared to be the appropriate tissue to investigate the potential mechanisms of FHN,as the degree of cartilage damage was found to be closely related to the severity of the disease.Bone quality was only affected in FHSL broilers,although factors related to bone metabolism were significantly altered among FHN-affected broilers.In addition,cartilage in FHN-affected broilers exhibited high levels of apoptosis and upregulated expression of ERS-related and HIF-1α,which was consistent with both in vivo and in vitro findings after MP treatment.The results were further supported by treatment with HIF-1α or ERS inhibition or activation.In conclusion,bone remodeling and cartilage homeostasis were affected in FHN broilers,but only cartilage damage was significantly exacerbated with FHN development.Moreover,activation of ERS or HIF-1α resulted in apoptosis in cartilage,thus exhibiting a significant correlation with FHN severity.展开更多
Microelectromechanical systems(MEMS)technology has gained significant attention over the past decade for measuring inertial angular velocity.However,due to inherent complexity,MEMS gyroscopes typically feature up to t...Microelectromechanical systems(MEMS)technology has gained significant attention over the past decade for measuring inertial angular velocity.However,due to inherent complexity,MEMS gyroscopes typically feature up to ten times more parameters than traditional sensors,making selection a challenging task even for experts.This study addresses this challenge,focusing on defensive guidance,navigation,and control(GNC)systems where precise and reliable angular velocity measurement is critical to overall performance.A comprehensive mathematical model is introduced to encapsulate all key MEMS parameters,accompanied by discussions on calibration and Allan variance interpretation.For six leading MEMS gyroscope applications,namely inertial navigation,integrated navigation,autopilot systems,rotating projectiles,homing guidance,and north finding,the most critical parameters are identified,distinguishing suitable and unsuitable sensor choices.Special emphasis is placed on inertial navigation systems,where practical rules of thumb for error evaluation are derived using six degrees of freedom motion equations.Rigorous simulations demonstrate the influence of various sensor parameters through real-world case studies,including static navigation,multi-rotor attitude estimation,gimbal stabilization,and north finding via a turntable.This work aims to be a beacon for practitioners across diverse fields,empowering them to make more informed design decisions.展开更多
When pumping is conducted in confined aquifer inside excavation pit(waterproof curtain),the direction of the groundwater seepage outside the excavation changes from horizontal to vertical owing to the existence of the...When pumping is conducted in confined aquifer inside excavation pit(waterproof curtain),the direction of the groundwater seepage outside the excavation changes from horizontal to vertical owing to the existence of the curtain barrier.There is no analytical calculation method for the groundwater head distribution induced by dewatering inside excavation.This paper first analyses the mechanism of the blocking effects from a close barrier in confined aquifer.Then,a simple equation based on analytical solution is proposed to calculate groundwater heads inside and outside of the excavation pit with waterproof curtain(hereafter refer to close barrier)in a confined aquifer.The distribution of groundwater head is derived according to two conditions:(i)pumping with a constant water head,and(ii)pumping with a constant flow rate.The proposed calculation equation is verified by both numerical simulation and experimental results.The comparisons demonstrate that the proposed model can be applied in engineering practice of excavation.展开更多

Methods: Rhubarb extracts in ethyl alcohol and water were applied to the treatment of 20patients with severe cereb...To investigate the therapeutic effects of the Chinese medicinal herb, rhubarb, on severe brain injury. Methods: Rhubarb extracts in ethyl alcohol and water were applied to the treatment of 20patients with severe cerebral injury complicated with hyperthermia, renal failure, hemorrhage in the upper digestive tract and increased intracranial pressure. Vital signs, variations of Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and intracranial pressure (ICP) of the patients were observed. The degree of hemorrhage in the digestive tract and the change in creatinine value were also observed. Results: Comparison with 20 patients of control group showed that treatment group registered a more remarkable recovery. 3 days after administration of the rhubarb extract, body temperature dropped by 1.1C .ICP dropped by 0. 4 kpa on average, incidence of hemorrhage in the digestive tract dropped by 30%.,the hemorrhage volume of digestive tract dropped by 700±250 ml, the time for occult blood to turn to negative was dropped by 10%. Conclusion: The Chinese medical herb, rhubarb, has a multiple targeted therapeutic effect on severe brain injury.展开更多

It is this theory we ha...The issue of "headedness" is a product of Chomsky's (1988) notion of UG (Universal Grammar) that led to the development of a framework known as P&P (Principles and Parameters) theory. It is this theory we have adopted for our analysis in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to examine the inconsistency in the value of Head Parameter with reference to the value of DP (determiner phrase) in Yorfib^i. As a native speaker of Yorfib~, the author has adopted an introspective method of data collection and used the intuitive knowledge of other native speakers of the language for necessary clarifications. Despite the fact that English and Yorfib~ are both head-initial, the structure of the NPs (noun phrases) in English shows that the head noun is always pre-modified, making the NP "head-final"--a violation of the value of Head Parameter in the language. This necessitated the need for Abney's (1987) DP hypothesis; in which the determiner heads its own phrase, thereby making a NP in English head-initial. This solves the problem of Head Parameter in English. However, since nouns in Yor/lb^i are post-modified, adopting "DP-analysis" will automatically produce head-final--a violation of the value of Head Parameter in the language. The study was conducted to assess management practices and constraints of Black head Somali sheep in Awbarre district of Fafen zone, Somali regional state, Ethiopia. A total of 120 households were purposively selected...The study was conducted to assess management practices and constraints of Black head Somali sheep in Awbarre district of Fafen zone, Somali regional state, Ethiopia. A total of 120 households were purposively selected for this study using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through the questionnaire, key informants interview, focus group discussions & field observations. The primary purpose of keeping sheep was for income generation followed by saving, meat production, milk, social and cultural functions. The main feeds for sheep during wet season were communal & private natural pastures. In dry season, communal natural pasture, crop residues & private natural pasture were used. The major source of water during wet season was dam/pond, whereas in the dry season spring & pipe water were used. The majority of the respondents (85.8%) used houses enclosed with thorn woody trees and houses enclosed with stone/brick fence were also reported. Majority of the respondents used controlled mating system and sheep are bred to lamb when forage is plentiful because they are less drought tolerant than goats and to avoid unwanted lambing in dry season. Majority (90%) of respondents own their breeding ram and those who have no breeding males used their neighbors’ rams and borrow from others. The breeding rams were born in the flock implying that animals within the flock are very closely related which leads to inbreeding. The most important health problems affecting sheep were circling disease, sheep pox, tick lameness (tick paralysis), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), bloating, and Foot & mouth disease (FMD). The major constraints hindering sheep production in the study area were shortage of veterinary service, feed shortage, scarcity of water, predators, diseases, and marketing. Therefore, to improve and increase the productivity of sheep production in the study area, better management practices and establishing of veterinary service centers are necessary.展开更多

Objective To study thechanges of baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) during head - up tilt test (HUT) in patients with vasovagal syncope (VS), and to examine the relationship between baroreflex sensitivity and neurohormonal ...Objective To study thechanges of baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) during head - up tilt test (HUT) in patients with vasovagal syncope (VS), and to examine the relationship between baroreflex sensitivity and neurohormonal factors. Furthermore, to investigate the effects of the changes of BRS on VS. Methods Forty - two patients with unexplained syncope (Among the 42 patients, there were 22 patients with positive HUT and 20 patients with negative HUT respectively) and 20 healthy volunteers (with negative HUT) underwent passive head - up tilt testing, Ante-cubital vein blood samples were taken before and after HUT, or at syncope. The fasting plasma endothelin , serum nitric oxide (NO), serum NE were measured, the BRS was assessed on the basis of the linear regression slope the RR interval versus systolic arterial blood pressure during the increment in blood pressure after intravenous administration of phenylephrine. Results (1) During the syncope, the BRS significantly reduced in HUT(+) group than baseline. At the end of tilt, the level of plasma ET, serum NO in patients with positive HUT significantly increased compared with baseline or normal controls, and the plasma concentration of NE also had the trend of increase. (2) By multiple regression analysis, a significant negative correlation was found between baroreceptor sensitivity and the plasma ET, NO at the end of HUT in patients with positive HUT, but there was no relationship between BRS and NE. Conclusions During the syncope occure, the BRS in patients with VS decreased significantly compared with normal controls. The abnormal plasma ET, NO concen-tration might contribute to the mechanism of VS.展开更多
