Effects of swallow restriction combined with gargling strategy on the quality of gastric preparation for magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy

Objective To explore the effects of restricting swallowing combinedwithgarglingstrategybefore examination on the quality of gastric preparation for magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy.Methods A total of 300 patients who underwent magnetically controlledcapsulegastroscopy inBinzhouMedical University Hospital from March 2022 to August 2023 were selected and randomly divided into the control group of 150 cases and the intervention group of 150 cases at a ratio of 1:1.Gastric preparation was conducted in the control group before the examination in accordance with theguidelines for magneticallyycontrolledcapsule gastroscopy.Restricted swallowing combined with gargling was added to the intervention group before the examination.The intragastric cleanliness,the degree of gastric mucosal visualization,the lesion detection rate,and the gastric examination time were used as evaluation indices.Results Comparedwiththecontrol group,the intervention group had significantly better scores in intragastric cleanliness(20.15±1.20 points VS 18.28±1.39 points,t=-21.884,P<0.001)and the degree of gastric mucosal visualization(20.30±6.67 points VS 18.80±1.04 points,t=-28.545,P<0.001),also showed higher lesion detection rate[94.7%(142/150)VS77.3%(116/150),X^(2)=18.720,P<0.001],and lower gastric examination time(28.00±10.31 min VS 32.01±11.69min,t=-2.328,P=0.023).Conclusion Restricted swallowing combined with gargling strategy before examination can effectively improve the quality of gastric preparation for magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy. 展开更多

Simple, reliable and sensitive analytical methods to determine anticariogenic agents, preservatives, and artificial sweeteners contained in commercial gargles are necessary for evaluating their effectiveness, safety, and quality. An ion chroma-tography (IC) method has been described to analyze simultaneously eight anions including fluoride, chloride, sulfate, phosphate, monofluorophosphate, glycerophosphate (anticariogenic agents), sorbate (a preservative), and saccharin (an artificial sweetener) in gargles. In this IC system, we applied a mobile phased gradient elution with KOH, separation by IonPac AS18 columns, and suppressed conductivity detection. Optimized analytical conditions were further evaluated for accuracy. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the inter-day's retention time and peak area of all species were less than 0.938% and 8.731%, respectively, while RSDs of 5-day retention time and peak area were less than 1.265% and 8.934%, respectively. The correlation coefficients for targeted analytes ranged from 0.999 7 to 1.000 0. The spiked recoveries for the anions were 90%~102.5%. We concluded that the method can be applied for comprehensive evaluation of commercial gargles. 展开更多

Analysis of Ice Water Gargle in Oral Care of Patients with High-dose Chemotherapy

Objective: to compare the prevention and treatment effect of ice mouth gargle and calcium folinic (CF) on oral mucositis after high-dose methotrexate (MTX) chemotherapy, and to explore more effective prevention methods. Methods: a total of 126 patients with osteosarcoma receiving high-dose MTX chemotherapy from June 2012 to May 2013 were reviewed. Among them, 58 patients used ice water gargle to gargle after chemotherapy, called group A, 68 patients used gargle with ice water and CF gargle, called group B. There was no significant statistical difference in the general data between the two groups. Differences in the incidence and duration of oral mucositis were compared between the two groups. Results: ?there were 32 cases (55.17%) of oral mucositis in group A and 36 cases (52.94%) of oral mucositis in group B;there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05);the duration of oral mucositis was (3.16 ± 1.42) d in group A and (2.86 ± 1.22) d in group B (P > 0.05) . Conclusion: for patients with high-dose MTX chemotherapy, ice water and CF gargle can effectively prevent oral mucositis. Using ice water gargle liquid can be applied in clinical practice. 展开更多

Objective To establish a fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (F PCR) method for detecting the coronavirus related to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and to evaluate its value for clinical application Methods The primers and the fluorescence labeled probe were designed and synthesized according to the published sequence of the SARS associated coronavirus genes A F PCR diagnosis kit for detecting the coronavirus was developed, and 115 clinical nasopharyngeal gargling liquid samples were tested Results The sequence of PCR amplified products completely matched the related sequence of the SARS associated coronavirus genome Forty nine out of 67 samples from identified SARS patients and 8 of 18 samples from persons having close contact with SARS patients showed positive results All 30 samples from healthy controls were negative Conclusion The F PCR method established may be a rapid, accurate and efficient way for screening and for the early diagnosis of SARS patients 展开更多
