Developing a comprehensive understanding of the shear fracture mechanisms and crack propagation behaviors in rocks under the influence of cyclic heating is imperative for optimizing geothermal energy extraction. This study encompasses several critical aspects under cyclic heating conditions, including the assessment of stress distribution states, the characterization of two-dimensional fracture paths, the quantitative analysis of three-dimensional damage characteristics on fracture surfaces, and the determination of the fractal dimension of debris generated after the failure of granite. The test results demonstrate that cyclic heating has a pronounced adverse effect on the physical and mechanical properties of granite. Consequently, stress tends to develop and propagate in a direction perpendicular to the two-dimensional fracture path. This leads to an increase in the extent of tensile damage on the fracture surface and accelerates the overall rock failure process. This increases the number of small-sized debris, raises the fractal dimension, and enhances the rock’s rupture degree. In practical enhanced geothermal energy extraction, the real-time monitoring of fracture propagation within the reservoir rock mass is achieved through the analysis of rock debris generated during the staged fracturing process.展开更多

In addition, a novel fractal soft, which was developed based on the fractal theory and the computer image processing technology, was explored to describe the pore structure of porous metal materials. Furthermore, the fractal dimension of pore structure was calculated by the soft and the effects of magnification and porosity on ffactal dimension were also discussed. The results show that the fractal dimension decreases with increase in the magnification, while it increases continuously with the porosity enhancing. The interrelationship between the fractal dimension and the magnification or porosity can be presented by the equation of D=α_0exp(-x/α_1)+α_2和D=k_2-(k_1-k_2)/[1+exp((θ-k_0)/k_3)], respectively.展开更多

Yearly fractal dimensions of intercity bus hub sizes were exactly calculated by a novel model. Fractal dimensions of the 200 biggest intercity bus hubs from 2000 to 2004 were 1. 486 2 to 1. 511 8, and that is consistent with fractal dimensions of Chinese urban system sizes. It showed that the size distribution of intercity bus hubs had fractal structure. Fractal dimensions from 1997 to 2004 indicated that intercity bus hub size distribution grew from bi-fractal to single fractal. It is concluded that the intercity bus hub system is in evolutionary progress, and the Central Government should support large intercity bus hubs more to optimize system structure.展开更多

In this study, a fractal model for SWRC was derived with a specially constructed Menger sponge to describe the fractal scaling behavior of soil; relationships were established among the fractal dimension of SWRC, the fractal dimension of soil mass, and soil texture; and the model was used to estimate SWRC with the estimated results being compared to experimental data for verification. The derived fractal model was in a power-law form, similar to the Brooks-Corey and Campbell empirical functions. Experimental data of particle size distribution (PSD), texture, and soil water retention for 10 soils collected at different places in China were used to estimate the fractal dimension of SWRC and the mass fractal dimension. The fractal dimension of SWRC and the mass fractal dimension were linearly related. Also, both of the fractal dimensions were dependent on soil texture, i.e., clay and sand contents. Expressions were proposed to quantify the relationships. Based on the relationships, four methods were used to determine the fractal dimension of SWRC and the model was applied to estimate soil water content at a wide range of tension values. The estimated results compared well with the measured data having relative errors less than 10% for over 60% of the measurements. Thus, this model, estimating the fractal dimension using soil textural data, offered an alternative for predicting SWRC.展开更多

文摘Fire detection has held stringent importance in computer vision for over half a century. The development of early fire detection strategies is pivotal to the realization of safe and smart cities, inhabitable in the future. However, the development of optimal fire and smoke detection models is hindered by limitations like publicly available datasets, lack of diversity, and class imbalance. In this work,we explore the possible ways forward to overcome these challenges posed by available datasets. We study the impact of a class-balanced dataset to improve the fire detection capability of state-of-the-art(SOTA)vision-based models and propose the use of generative models for data augmentation,as a future work direction.First,a comparative analysis of two prominent object detection architectures,You Only Look Once version 7(YOLOv7)and YOLOv8 has been carried out using a balanced dataset, where both models have been evaluated across various evaluation metrics including precision, recall, and mean Average Precision(mAP).The results are compared to other recent fire detection models, highlighting the superior performance and efficiency of the proposed YOLOv8 architecture as trained on our balanced dataset.Next,a fractal dimension analysis gives a deeper insight into the repetition of patterns in fire, and the effectiveness of the results has been demonstrated by a windowing-based inference approach. The proposed Slicing-Aided Hyper Inference(SAHI)improves the fire and smoke detection capability of YOLOv8 for real-life applications with a significantly improved mAP performance over a strict confidence threshold.YOLOv8 with SAHI inference gives a mAP:50-95 improvement of more than 25%compared to the base YOLOv8 model. The study also provides insights into future work direction by exploring the potential of generative models like deep convolutional generative adversarial network(DCGAN)and diffusion models like stable diffusion, for data augmentation.

文摘Deep geothermal extraction processes expose rock masses to frequent and significant temperature fluctuations. In practical enhanced geothermal energy extraction, the real-time monitoring of fracture propagation within the reservoir rock mass is achieved through the analysis of rock debris generated during the staged fracturing process.

文摘The FeCrA1 fiber was used to prepare porous metal materials with air-laid technology, and then followed by sintering at 1300 ℃ for a holding period of 2 h in the vacuum. The interrelationship between the fractal dimension and the magnification or porosity can be presented by the equation of D=α_0exp(-x/α_1)+α_2和D=k_2-(k_1-k_2)/[1+exp((θ-k_0)/k_3)], respectively.

文摘Surface electromyogram (EMG) signals were identified by fractal dimension. Two patterns of surface EMG signals were acquired from 30 healthy volunteers' right forearm flexor respectively in the process of forearm supination (FS) and forearm pronation (FP).After the raw action surface EMG (ASEMG) signal was decomposed into several sub-signals with wavelet packet transform (WPT),five fractal dimensions were respectively calculated from the raw signal and four sub-signals by the method based on fuzzy self-similarity.The results show that calculated from the sub-signal in the band 0 to 125 Hz,the fractal dimensions of FS ASEMG signals and FP ASEMG signals distributed in two different regions, and its error rate based on Bayes decision was no more than 2.26%.Therefore,the fractal dimension is an appropriate feature by which an FS ASEMG signal is distinguished from an FP ASEMG signal.

文摘[Objective] The aim was to discuss the spatial pattern changes of land use in Tianjin new coastal area based on fractal dimensions.[Method] By dint of remote and geographic information system technology to obtain the data of urban land use in new coastal area from 1993 to 2008,the boundary dimension, radius dimension and information dimension of each land use type were calculated based on fractal dimension. In addition, the revealed land use spatial dimension changes characteristics were analyzed.[Result] The spatial distribution of each land use type in new costal area had distinct fractal characteristics. And,the amount and changes of three types of dimension values effectively revealed the changes of complicatedness, centeredness and evenness of spatial pattern of land use in the study area. The boundary dimension of unused land and salty earth increased incessantly, which suggested its increasing complicatedness. The boundary of the port and wharf and shoal land was getting simpler. The radius dimension of the cultivated land was larger than 2,which suggested that its area spread from center to the surroundings;the one in salty land and waters distributed evenly within different radius space to the center of the city;the one in other land use types reduced gradually from center to the surroundings. The information dimension value in the woodland and orchard land, unused land and shoal land was small, and was in obvious concentrated distribution;the spatial distribution of cultivated and salty land concentrated in the outside area;the construction area in the port and wharf spread gradually on the basis of original state;the spatial distribution of waters and residents and mines were even.[Conclusion] Applying fractal dimensions to the study of spatial pattern changes of urban land use can make up for some disadvantages in classical urban spatial pattern quantitative research, which has favorable practical value.

文摘Size distribution characteristics of intercity bus hubs in China from 1997 to 2(104 were analyzed regarding highway passenger volume as a size index of intercity bus hubs. It is concluded that the intercity bus hub system is in evolutionary progress, and the Central Government should support large intercity bus hubs more to optimize system structure.

文摘A simplified procedure is developed to acquire the surface fractal dimension of porous media utilizing the PSD information from mercury porosimetry or other analyses. The self similarity of the inner surface of Sierpinski sponge is analyzed, the result of which demonstrates that the inner surface of Sierpinski sponge is not scale invariant over the whole range of scale transformations.By applying the simplified procedure to analyze and treat the PSD information of Sierpinski sponge over the scale invariant range,it is found that the surface fractal dimension calculated by the scaling relation is in very good agreement with its theoretical value, which virtually provides a theoretical affirmation of the method.

文摘Mine filling materials urgently need to improve mechanical properties and achieve low-carbon transformation. This study explores the mechanism of the synergistic effect of optimizing aggregate fractal grading and introducing CO_(2)nanobubble technology to improve the performance of cement-fly ash-based backfill materials(CFB).The properties including fluidity, setting time, uniaxial compressive strength, elastic modulus, porosity, microstructure and CO_(2)storage performance were systematically studied through methods such as fluidity evaluation, time test, uniaxial compression test, mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP),scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis(SEM-EDS),and thermogravimetric-differential thermogravimetric analysis(TG-DTG).The experimental results show that the density and strength of the material are significantly improved under the synergistic effect of fractal dimension and CO_(2)nanobubbles.When the fractal dimension reaches 2.65,the mass ratio of coarse and fine aggregates reaches the optimal balance, and the structural density is greatly improved at the same time.At this time, the uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus reach their peak values, with increases of up to 13.46%and 27.47%,respectively.CO_(2)nanobubbles enhance the material properties by promoting hydration reaction and carbonization. At the microscopic level,CO_(2)nanobubble water promotes the formation of C-S-H(hydrated calcium silicate),C-A-S-H(hydrated calcium aluminium silicate)gel and CaCO_(3),which is the main way to enhance the performance.Thermogravimetric studies have shown that when the fractal dimension is 2.65,the dehydration of hydration products and the decarbonization process of CaCO_(3)are most obvious, and CO_(2)nanobubble water promotes the carbonization reaction, making it surpass the natural state. The CO_(2)sequestration quality of cement-fly ash-based materials treated with CO_(2)nanobubble water at different fractal dimensions increased by 12.4wt%to 99.8wt%.The results not only provide scientific insights for the design and implementation of low-carbon filling materials, but also provide a solid theoretical basis for strengthening green mining practices and promoting sustainable resource utilization.

文摘To investigate the pore structure of graphene oxide modified polymer cement mortar(GOPM)under salt-freeze-thaw(SFT)coupling effects and its impact on deterioration, this study modifies polymer cement mortar(EMCM)with graphene oxide(GO).The micro-pore structure of GOPM is characterized using LF-NMR and SEM.Fractal theory is applied to calculate the fractal dimension of pore volume, and the deterioration patterns are analyzed based on the evolution characteristics of capillary pores. The experimental results indicate that, after 25 salt-freeze-thaw cycles(SFTc),SO2-4 ions penetrate the matrix, generating corrosion products that fill existing pores and enhance the compactness of the specimen. As the number of cycles increases, the ongoing formation and expansion of corrosion products within the matrix, combined with persistent freezing forces, and result in the degradation of the pore structure. Therefore, the mass loss rate(MLR)of the specimens shows a trend of first decreasing and then increasing, while the relative dynamic elastic modulus(RDEM)initially increases and then decreases.Compared to the PC group specimens, the G3PM group specimens show a 28.71% reduction in MLR and a 31.42% increase in RDEM after 150 SFTc.The fractal dimensions of the transition pores, capillary pores, and macropores in the G3PM specimens first increase and then decrease as the number of SFTc increases.Among them, the capillary pores show the highest correlation with MLR and RDEM,with correlation coefficients of 0.97438 and 0.98555,respectively.

文摘Studying and understanding of the surface topography variation are the basis for analyzing tribological problems, and characterization of worn surface is necessary.Fractal geometry offers a more accurate description for surface roughness that topographic surfaces are statistically self-similar and can be quantitatively evaluated by fractal parameters. The change regularity of worn surface topography is one of the most important aspects of running-in study. However, the existing research normally adopts only one friction matching pair to explore the surface topography change, which interrupts the running-in wear process and makes the experimental result lack authenticity and objectivity. In this paper,to investigate the change regularity of surface topography during the real running-in process,a series of running-in tests by changing friction pairs under the same operating conditions are conducted on UMT-II Universal Multifunction Tester. The surface profile data are acquired by MiaoXAM2.5X-50X Ultrahigh Precision Surface 3D Profiler and analyzed using fractal dimension D,scale coefficient C and characteristic roughness Ra*based on root mean square(RMS)method. The characterization effects of the three parameters are discussed and compared. The results obtained show that there exists remarkable fractal feature of surface topography during running-in process, both D and Ra*increase gradually, while C decreases slowly as the wear-in process goes on,and all parameters tend to be stable when the wear process steps into the normal wear process.Ra*illustrates higher sensitivity for rough surface characterization compared with the other two parameters. In addition, the running-in test carried with a set of identical surface properties is more scientific and reasonable than the traditional one.The proposed research further indicates that the fractal method can quantitatively measure the rough surface, which also provides an evidence for running-in process identification and tribology design.

文摘Many empirical models have been developed to describe the soil water retention curve (SWRC). Thus, this model, estimating the fractal dimension using soil textural data, offered an alternative for predicting SWRC.

文摘The split-Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)and digital image correlation(DIC)techniques are combined to analyze the dynamic compressive failure process of coal samples, and the box fractal dimension is used to quantitatively analyze the dynamic changes in the coal sample cracks under impact load conditions with different loading rates. The experimental results show that the fractal dimension can quantitatively describe the evolution process of coal fractures under dynamic load.During the dynamic compression process, the evolution of the coal sample cracks presents distinct stages. In the crack propagation stage, the fractal dimension increases rapidly with the progress of loading, and in the crack widening stage, the fractal dimension increases slowly with the progress of loading. The initiation of the crack propagation phase of the coal samples gradually occurs more quickly with increasing loading rate;the initial cracks appear earlier. At the same loading time point, when the loading rate is greater, the fractal dimension of the cracks observed in the coal sample is greater.
