This review interrogates empirical and theoretical research on agentic engagement in foreign language(FL)learning.Through synthesizing peer-reviewed studies from Web of Science and CNKI databases,it maps the theoretical evolution,methodological innovations,key influencing factors and proposed suggestion for further research on student agency.Future research should prioritize,longitudinal studies,culturally comparative designs,validity constructs and ethical evaluations of artificial intelligence’s impact on learner autonomy.This review calls for a holistic approach to FL education,where agentic engagement bridges individual initiative,pedagogical innovation,and sociocultural responsiveness to empower learners in multilingual global contexts. 展开更多

It intends to identify some components of foreign language learning motivation and probes into the causes for the changing motivations of students throughout 4-year college education. The construction of virtual community in foreign language learning is a comprehensive foreign language learning environment integrated with foreign language vocabulary database construction and vocabulary retrieval, combining the virtual reality technology to construct the language environment of foreign language learning. The virtual community of foreign language leaming can improve the sense of language authenticity in foreign language learning and improve the quality of foreign language teaching. A method of building a virtual community for foreign language learning is proposed based on data mining technology, data acquisition and feature preprocessing model for building semantic vocabulary of foreign language learning is constructed, the linguistic environment characteristics of the semantic vocabulary data of foreign language learning is analyzed, and the semantic noumenon structure model is obtained. Fuzzy clustering method is used for vocabulary clustering and comprehensive retrieval in the virtual community of foreign language learning, the performance of vocabulary classification in foreign language learning is improved, the adaptive semantic information fusion method is used to realize the vocabulary data mining in the virtual community of foreign language learning, information retrieval and access scheduling for virtual communities in foreign language learning are realized based on data mining results. The simulation results show that the accuracy of foreign language vocabulary retrieval is good, improve the efficiency of foreign language learning. 展开更多

This paper is an attempt to present some ideas of FL teachers' role in developing students' socio-cultural competence with the aim of raising their cross-cultural awareness and questioning the stereotypes students bring into a FL classroom. The methodology used was an analysis of fragment of tape scripts from listening comprehension activities from a course book preparing Polish secondary students for the school leaving exam. The topics discussed concern opinions about attitudes towards and judgments of various cultural aspects, be it drinking tea or discussing the weather, impressions people have about other nations, or languages people speak. 展开更多

This paper investigates the potential of AI tools,particularly AI pens such as the Caterpillar pen,to enhance children's intrinsic motivation for English language learning in China.Compared to traditional exam-oriented English education in China,the AI pens offer a more engaging and natural language environment through features like audio readings with native pronunciation,graded difficulty levels for various reading abilities,and repetitive exposure to vocabulary and sentence structures.These features can significantly increase children's intrinsic motivation by making learning enjoyable and effective.However,challenges such as limited research on AI's impact on intrinsic motivation and the ongoing need for parental supervision exist.To maximize the benefits of AI tools,they should be integrated into daily learning activities and used in conjunction with traditional teaching methods as opposed to replacing these methods.In this way,AI technology can become a valuable asset in fostering a love of language learning and in turn improving children's overall language proficiency. 展开更多

Foreign language learning is also culture learning,which is a dynamic process of bridging the connections between the local culture and the foreign culture.Based on a survey of 667 teachers of English and 278 students in colleges and universities in China,this paper first reviews the current research on the promotion of Chinese culture into the classroom teaching in the context of foreign language learning and then explores future prospects in this area of teaching.The discussion starts with the discussion on these major questions in the process of incorporating local culture in the form of telling stories about China,i.e.,“why need we tell the stories”,“who tells the stories”,“who leads in telling the stories”,“how can we tell the stories”,“what can we tell in the stories”,“where can we tell the stories”,and“how well can we tell the stories”.It continues proposing to pay attention to interdisciplinary research on discourse construction,communication modes and evaluation of communicative effectiveness,and also the design of foreign language curriculum and teaching materials.It concludes that incorporating local culture into the foreign language instruction is of great help to widen students’horizons,cultivate their language proficiency,enhance their culture awareness,strengthen their confidence,and realize shared appreciation of civilization with the people from other cultural backgrounds. 展开更多
