Tajikistan represents a core region of the biodiversity hotspot in Central Asian mountains and has exceptional vascular plant diversity. However, the species diversity of the country faces urgent conservation challenges. There has been a lack of a comprehensive and multidimensional assessment to inform strategic conservation planning. Therefore, this study integrated 4 key biodiversity indices including species richness(SR),phylogenetic diversity(PD),threatened species richness(TSR),and endemic species richness(ESR)to map species diversity distribution patterns, identify conservation gaps, and elucidate their effects of climatic factors. This study revealed that species diversity shows a clear trend of decreasing from the western region to the eastern region of Tajikistan. The central–western mountains(specifically the Gissar-Darvasian and Zeravshanian regions)emerge as irreplaceable biodiversity hotspots. However,we found a severe spatial mismatch between these priority areas and the existing protected areas(PAs).Protection coverage for all hotspots was alarmingly low, ranging from 31.00%to 38.00%.Consequently,a critical 64.80%of integrated priority areas fall outside of the current PAs,representing a major conservation gap. This study identified precipitation seasonality and isothermality as the principal drivers, collectively explaining over 50.00%of the diversity variation and suggesting high vulnerability to hydrological shifts.Furthermore,we detected significant geographic sampling bias in the public biodiversity databases, with the most critical hotspot being systematically under-sampled.This study provides a robust scientific basis for conservation action, highlighting the urgent need to strategically expand PAs in the under-protected southwestern region and to mitigate critical sampling gaps through targeted data digitization and field surveys. These measures are indispensable for securing Tajikistan’s unique biodiversity and achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework Target 3(“30×30 Protection”). 展开更多

The isolated fracture-vug systems controlled by small-scale strike-slip faults within ultra-deep carbonate rocks of the Tarim Basin exhibit significant exploration potential. The study employs a novel training set incorporating innovative fault labels to train a U-Net-structured CNN model, enabling effective identification of small-scale strike-slip faults through seismic data interpretation.Based on the CNN faults,we analyze the distribution patterns of small-scale strike-slip faults. The small-scale strike-slip faults can be categorized into NNW-trending and NE-trending groups with strike lengths ranging 200–5000 m.The development intensity of small-scale strike-slip faults in the Lower Yingshan Member notably exceeds that in the Upper Member. The Lower and Upper Yingshan members are two distinct mechanical layers with contrasting brittleness characteristics, separated by a low-brittleness layer. The superior brittleness of the Lower Yingshan Member enhances the development intensity of small-scale strike-slip faults compared to the upper member, while the low-brittleness layer exerts restrictive effects on vertical fault propagation.Fracture-vug systems formed by interactions of two or more small-scale strike-slip faults demonstrate larger sizes than those controlled by individual faults. All fracture-vug system sizes show positive correlations with the vertical extents of associated small-scale strike-slip faults, particularly intersection and approaching fracture-vug systems exhibit accelerated size increases proportional to the vertical extents. 展开更多

Macrobenthic organisms are commonly employed as biomonitors for environmental risk assessment. In this study,we aimed to investigate the spatial and temporal patterns of the macrobenthic community, which is influenced by environmental factors of sediments and bottom water layer. We sampled a total of 12,11,10,and 11 stations in the Shengsi Archipelago during June 2010,August 2010,November 2020,and April 2021 respectively.A total of 124 species of macrobenthos were identified, with polychaetes being the dominant group. The abundance, biomass, and diversity indices exhibited no significant temporal differences.Similarly, biodiversity did not exhibit a clear spatial gradient, likely due to the small study area and the absence of significant differences in key factors such as depth. However, the stations with the lowest biodiversity values consistently appeared in the southwest region, possibly due to the impact of human activities.Significant differences in the macrobenthic community were observed between all months except between June and August, and mollusk Endopleura lubrica and polychaete Sigambra hanaokai were important contributors to these differences according to the results of the Similarity Percentages analysis.Suspended particulate matter(SPM)was identified as the primary driving factors of macrobenthic variability. In summary, the community structure underwent temporal changes influenced by complex current patterns, while biodiversity remained relatively stable. This study contributes to our understanding of the key environmental factors affecting macrobenthic communities and biodiversity. It also provides valuable data support for the long-term monitoring of macrobenthos and the environment in the Shengsi Archipelago. 展开更多

Finless porpoises(FPs)serve as flagship species and key ecological indicators for assessing environmental quality. However,FPs are challenging to survey due to their elusive behavior and lack of distinctive features.Stranding and sighting events offer essential information on species diversity, distribution patterns, and potential threats. In this study, records from 1986 to 2023 were analyzed to assess the temporal and spatial distribution patterns of FP strandings and sightings in the Qiantang River Estuary,China. Results show an increase in the number of recorded events over time.Seasonal variations were evident, with a peak in strandings and sightings occurring in late winter. The frequency of records was higher during spring and moderate tides compared to neap tides, particularly in hydrologically normal years.Rapidly receding tides and sediment accumulation appear to restrict the activity space of FPs,thereby increasing the frequency of these events.Localized conditions associated with stranding and sighting events were classified into four categories:bifurcation zones, confluence zones, separation zones, and deep channels adjacent to concave banks.Deep channels, which are optimal for shipping, also elevate the risk of FP strandings. These findings offer valuable insights for the development and design of conservation strategies tailored to the needs of FPs in estuarine environments. 展开更多

Coal-measure gas is a primary target with significant potential for the exploration of unconventional hydrocarbon resources. However, the spatiotemporal distribution and combination patterns of multi-type coal-measure gases are yet to be clarified, directly impeding the sweet spot evaluation and exploration deployment of coal-measure gas. This study discussed the characteristics and distribution patterns of coal-measure gases in the Daniudi gas field in northeastern Ordos Basin,China, with abundant drilling data. The results indicate that the coal seams variably thin upward and are mainly seen in the first and second members of the Taiyuan Formation(also referred to as the Tai 1 and Tai 2 members, respectively)and the first member of the Shanxi Formation(Shan 1 Member).Nos.8,5 and 3 coal seams are laterally continuous, and significantly thicker in its southern part compared to the northern part. Moreover, carbonaceous mudstones and shales are better developed in the southern part, where limestones are only observed in the Tai 1 Member.Based on the main lithological types,we identified three lithologic roofs of coal seams, that is,limestone, mudstone, and sandstone, which determine the spatiotemporal distribution of coal-measure gases.Besides bauxite gas in the Benxi Formation, the coal-measure gases include tight-sand gas, coalbed methane(CBM),coal-measure shale gas,and tight-limestone gas, with CBM typically associated with coal-measure shale gas.The combinations of different types of coal-measure gas vary across different layers and regions.Tight-sand gas is well-developed in areas where tight sandstones are in contact with coal-measures.From the Taiyuan to the Shanxi formations,CBM gradually transitions into a combination of CBM and coal-measure shale gas,and coal-measure shale gas.Nos.8 and 5 coal seams in low-lying areas exhibit favorable gas-bearing properties due to their large thickness and favorable roof lithologies, serving as prospective play fairways.Mudstone and limestone roofs are more conducive to achieving good gas-bearing properties. The direct contact between sandstones and coal seams tends to result in the formation of tight-sand gas and a reduced gas content of CBM.While focusing on single types of gas reservoirs such as CBM and tight-sand gas,it is essential to consider the concurrent exploration of various coal-measure gas combinations to discover more additional gas resources and guide exploration deployment. 展开更多

The relationships of 42 species of ground moss with six environmental factors in 41 sites on Changbai Mountain Biosphere Reserve were analyzed. Four site groups and four groups of ground moss ecological species were identified using the method of Two-way Indicator Species Analysis (TWINSPAN). The results of Detrended Canonical. Correspondence Analysis (DCCA) showed that altitude, soil sand content, soil acidity, forest canopy coverage and soil water content are the five major environmental factors influencing the distributional patterns of the moss species. The four groups of ecological species, which correspond well with the four site groups, are projected on the species-environment biplot of DCCA. Group 1 dominated in the bogs of Larix olgensis forest, group 2 in the alpine tundra, group 3 in the dense conifer forest, and group 4 mainly in the Betula ermanii community and the Betula ermanii-Larix olgensis forest in sub-alpine respectively. 展开更多

Climate change disrupts the distribution of species and restructures their richness patterns. The genus of Asian bamboo,Phyllostachys, possesses significant ecological and economic values, and represents the most speciesrich genus in the Bambusoideae subfamily.Based on the distribution data of 46 species and 20 environmental variables,we used the MaxEnt model combined with ArcGIS calculations to simulate current and future potential richness distributions under three distinct CO_(2) emission scenarios. The results showed that the MaxEnt model had a good predictive ability, with a mean area under the working characteristic curve(AUC value)of 0.91 for all species. The main environmental variables that impacted the future distribution of most Phyllostachys species were elevation, variations of seasonal precipitation, and mean diurnal range.Phyllostachys species are currently concentrated in southeastern China.Under future climate projections,18 species exhibited significant habitat contraction across three or more future climate scenarios, but suitable habitats for other species will expand. This enhancement is most pronounced under the extreme climate scenario(2090s-SSP585),primarily driven by high species gains contributing to elevated turnover values across scenarios. The center of maximum richness will progressively shift southwestward over time.Predictive modeling of Phyllostachys richness distribution dynamics under climate change enhances our understanding of its biogeography and informs strategic introduction programs to bamboo management and augments China’s carbon sequestration capacity. 展开更多

As an important herbaceous plant, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi(Chinese skullcap) is geographically widespread and commonly used throughout the world. In the Chinese medicine market, S. baicalensis has been divided into two primary types, "Ku Qin"(WXR) and "Tiao Qin"(TST). Moreover, TST is also divided into different grades according to the diameter of roots. To explore the distribution patterns of the contents of five biologically activate ingredients(FBAI), we used six-year-old cultivated S. baicalensis and analyzed its growth characteristics as well as the quality difference among different types and diameters in roots. Throughout the entire root, we discovered that contents of the FBAI all initially increased and subsequently decreased from the top to the bottom of the roots. The baicalin content of WXR was less than that of TST. On the contrary, the contents of baicalein, wogonin, and oroxylin A in WXR were up to about two times higher than that in TST. We also found that the 0 to 40 cm part of the S. baicalensis root possessed about 87% of the root biomass and about 92% of the contents of the active ingredients. 展开更多

The mechanisms for rock bursts occurrences in fold zones are complex, and the redistribution of in-situ stresses is closely related to the complexity of the structures. Analysis of the geomorphology of fold structures and changes of coal thickness can help identify zones prone to rock bursts to improve safety and productivity in coal mines. This study investigated the distribution characteristics of fold structures in coal seams in fold zones in four mines in northwest China. Geometrical characteristics of fold structures in coal seams and changes of coal thickness were analysed, based on comprehensive evaluation indexes, such as the length–width ratio of folds, interlimb angle, ratio P1 of projected width of fold limbs to that of the hinge zone, curvature ratio P2, the maximum curvature and amplitude. The statistical analysis of the four coal mines shows that the length–width ratio of folds changed from 0.78 to 2.03 and the maximum curvature of cross sections of folds was less than 0.04. The curvature ratio of cross section of a fold in the structure was no more than 1.4 and the interlimb angles of cross sections of 89% of folds were larger than 150°. Gentle fold structures were dominant and the specific geological morphologies were domes or basins. The isopleth of coal thickness above the coal mines showed a fluctuation trend similar to the contour line of the floor of coal seams. The coal thickness in an anticline area was smaller than that in the neighboring syncline area. Therefore, the overall variation of coal thickness in the mining areas was likely to have a relation with the direction of the regional principal stress. 展开更多

Due to the lack of the three-dimensional structure of the Zhaoji Salt Basin, the salt mining enterprises have obvious clustering when choosing sites.Production capacity declines rapidly as mining deepens, and the enterprises are entering a stage of stagnation in production. In this study,a dense seismic array of 125 short-period stations was deployed around the core mining area and its vicinity of the salt mine industry,we used the ambient noise tomography(ANT)method to image the three-dimensional shear wave velocity structure at the depth shallower than 3 km.The results indicate:(1)The overall shear wave velocity in the study area is relatively lower, ranging from 0.8 to 1.8 km/s,which could be related to the loose and thick deposition of the Zhaoji sub-depression.(2)The three-dimensional shear wave velocity structure reveals that the sedimentary thickness of the Zhaoji sub-depression is deeper in the southeast and shallower in the northwest, with the sedimentary center located around Heping Town and Dahuangzhuang Town.(3)The Zhaoji salt mine is a low-velocity anomalous zone in the shear wave velocity structure with an inverse‘C'character spreading along Nanchenji Town and Zhaoji Town, with a depth ranging from approximately 1.2 to 2.8 km,it may be caused by the development of rock fissures due to water extraction and injection. The surrounding rock exhibits relatively high velocity, which reflects the morphological characteristics of the Zhaoji Salt Basin. The three-dimensional shear wave velocity model obtained in this study provides scientific guidance for the industrial exploitation of the Zhaoji salt mine and reference for salt exploration of the Hongze Salt Basin. It also provides an important basis for the seismic risk assessment of the salt basins.Simultaneously,it holds significant implications for exploring the application of ambient noise tomography method in spatial detection of salt mine belt. 展开更多

Active fault creep slip induces deformation of rock mass buried deeply in fault zones that significantly affect the operational safety of long linear projects passing through it.Displacement distribution patterns of rock masses in active fault zones which have been investigated previously are the key design basis for such projects. Therefore,a discrete element numerical model with different fault types, slip time, dip angles, and complex geological features was established, and then the creep slip for normal, reverse, and strike-slip faults were simulated to analyze the displacement distribution in the fault rock mass.A disk rotation test system and the corresponding laboratory test method were developed for simulating rock mass displacement induced by creep slippage of faults.A series of rotation tests for softand hard-layered specimens under combined compression and torsional stress were conducted to verify the numerical results and analyze the factors influencing the displacement distribution. An S-shaped displacement distribution independent of fault dip angle was identified corresponding to reverse, normal, and strike-slip faults. The results indicated that the higher the degree of horizontal extrusion, the softer the rock mass at the fault core, and the higher the degree of displacement concentration in the fault core;about 70%of the creep slip displacement occurs within this zone under 100 years of creep slippage. 展开更多

Leaf area index (LAI) of natural vegetation is recognized as the most important variable for measuring vegetation structure over large areas, and for relating it to energy and mass exchange, which has been successfully estimated from satellite resolution sensors. In this paper, according to the statistical analysis based on a lot of forest plots, the mathematical models of LAI distribution patterns in the hydro thermal spaces for five coniferous forest types in China were established. For the cold temperate larch forests growing in the dry and cold climate, their LAI increases with the increasing of warm index and precipitation in the way of hyperbolic quadratic surface. For the cold temperate spruce fir forests and temperate Pinus tabulaeformis forests, their LAI is negatively related to the annual mean air temperature in the way of the natural exponential curve, in order to adapt to the water oppressed environments. For the subtropical Pinus massoniana forests and Cunninghamia lanceolata forests growing in the warm and moist climate, their LAI is related to the annual mean air temperature in the way of the parabolic quadratic curve. 展开更多

Medicinal plants are the primary material basis for disease prevention and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The conservation and sustainable utilization of these medicinal plants is critical for the development of the TCM industry. However, wild medicinal plant resources have sharply declined in recent decades. To ameliorate the shortage of medicinal plant resources,it is essential to explore the development potential of the TCM industry in different geographical regions. For this purpose,we examined the spatial distribution of commonly used medicinal plants in China, the number of Chinese medicinal material markets, and the number of TCM decoction piece enterprises.Specifically, multispecies superimposition analysis and Thiessen polygons were used to reveal the optimal range for planting bulk medicinal plants and the ideal regions for building Chinese medicinal material markets, respectively.Furthermore,we quantitatively analyzed mismatches between the spatial distribution of commonly used medicinal plant richness,Chinese medicinal material markets, and TCM decoction piece enterprises. We found that the areas suitable for growing commonly used medicinal plants in China were mainly distributed in Hengduan Mountain,Nanling Mountain,Wuling Mountain, and Daba Mountain areas. The Thiessen polygon network based on Chinese medicinal material market localities showed there are currently fewer markets in southwestern, northwestern, and northeastern China than in central and southern China.TCM decoction piece enterprises are concentrated in a few provinces, such as Hebei and Jiangxi. We found that the distribution of commonly used medicinal plants,Chinese medicinal material markets and TCM decoction piece enterprises are mismatched in Henan,Shaanxi,Hunan,Hubei,Zhejiang,Fujian,Chongqing, and Xizang. We recommend strengthening development of the TCM industry in Henan,Hunan,Zhejiang,Shaanxi,Hubei,Chongqing,Fujian, and Xizang;building more Chinese medicinal material markets in southwestern, northwestern, and northeastern China;and establishing medicinal plant nurseries in resource-rich provinces to better protect and domesticate local medicinal plants. 展开更多

Two field studies were conducted to measure pigments in the Southern Yellow Sea (SYS) and the northern East China Sea (NECS) in April (spring) and September (autumn) to evaluate the distribution pattern of phytoplankton stock (Chl a concentration) and the impact of hydrological features such as water mass, mixing and tidal front on these patterns. The results indicated that the Chl a concentration was 2.43±2.64 (Mean ± SD) mg m-3 in April (range,0.35 to 17.02 mg m-3) and 1.75±3.10 mg m-3 in September (from 0.07 to 36.54 mg m-3) in 2003.Additionally,four areas with higher Chl a concentrations were observed in the surface water in April, while two were observed in September, and these areas were located within or near the point at which different water masses converged (temperature front area). The distribution pattern of Chl a was generally consistent between onshore and offshore stations at different depths in April and September.Specifically, higher Chl a concentrations were observed along the coastal line in September, which consisted of a mixing area and a tidal front area, although the distributional pattern of Chl a concentrations varied along transects in April. The maximum Chl a concentration at each station was observed in the surface and subsurface layer (0-10 m) for onshore stations and the thermocline layer (10-30 m) for offshore stations in September, while the greatest concentrations were generally observed in surface and subsurface water (0-10 m) in April. The formation of the Chl a distributional pattern in the SYS and NECS and its relationship with possible influencing factors is also discussed.Although physical forces had a close relationship with Chl a distribution, more data are required to clearly and comprehensively elucidate the spatial pattern dynamics of Chl a in the SYS and NECS. 展开更多

Characterizing soil particle-size distribution is a key measure towards soil property. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the multifractal characteristics of soil particle-size distribution among different land-use from a purple soil catchment and to generalize the spatial variation trend of multifractal parameters across the catchment.A total of 84 soil samples were collected from four kinds of land use patterns(dry land, orchard, paddy, and forest)in an agricultural catchment in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region,China. The multifractal analysis method was applied to quantitatively characterize the soil particle size distribution.Six soil particle size distribution(PSD)multifractal parameters(D(0),D(1),D(2),(35)a(q),(35)f[a(q)],α(0))were computed.Additionally,a geostatistical analysis was employed to reveal the spatial differentiation and map the spatial distribution of these parameters.Evident multifractal characteristics were found. The trend of generalized dimension spectrum of four land use patterns was basically consistent with the range of 0.8 to 2.0.However,orchard showed the largest monotonic decline, while the forest demonstrated the smallest decrease.D(0)of the four land use patterns were ranked as:dry land<orchard<forest<paddy, the order of D(1)was:dry land<paddy<orchard<forest,D(2)presented a rand-size relationship as dry land<forest<paddy<orchard.Furthermore, all land-use patterns presented asΔf[α(q)]<0.The rand-size relationship ofα(0)was same as D(0).The best-fitting model for D(0),D(1),D(2)andΔf[α(q)]was spherical model, forΔα(q)was gaussian model, and forα(0)was exponential model with structure variance ratio was 1.03%,49.83%,0.84%,1.48%,22.20%and 10.60%,respectively.The results showed that soil particles of each land use pattern were distributed unevenly. The multifractal parameters under different land use have significant differences, except forΔα(q).Differences in the composition of soil particles lead to differences in the multifractal properties even though they belong to the same soil texture.Farming behavior may refine particles and enhance the heterogeneity of soil particle distribution. Our results provide an effective reference for quantifying the impact of human activities on soil system in the Three Gorges Reservoir region. 展开更多

In order to determine the planar and volume distribution of sand bodies of the Jurassic Badaowan formation in Block T13 of Junggar basin,we used analysis of field outcrop and 3D seismic data, which play an essential role in areas of sparse well coverage. We describe sedimentary facies characteristics, sand body planforms, width and connectivity patterns of sand bodies, and vertical associations and successions by acoustic impedance inversion technology and sedimentological theory. Results of our study show braided fluvial strata deposits in the Jurassic Badaowan formation. Each sand body is approximately lenticular in shape. The width of each sand body falls in the range 100~800 m,with most between 200 and 400 m.The sand bodies vary in thickness from 4 to 13 m,with most below 9 m.The width/thickness ratios lie in the range 20~55.The connectivity of braided fluvial channel sand bodies is controlled by changes of accommodation space. One fining-upward sedimentary cycle of base-level rise is recognized in Badaowan formation, representing an upward rise of base level. The connectivity of sand bodies was found to be greatest in the early stage of base-level rise, becoming progressively worse with increasing base-level rise. 展开更多

This paper studied the biomass distribution patterns of Lanix olgensis/swamp ecotones and Betula platyphlla/swamp ecotones in Changbai Mountain so as to provide theory foundation for the management of these nature resources, by setting up sample belts, investigating initial data along the environmental gradients change, and establishing regression models. By means of regression models, the biomass of communities, layers, tree species and organs was calculated. In this system, it was found that the community biomass inreased gradually along the environmental gradients change from swamp to forest in Changbai Mountain. Furthermore, the ecotoneal biomass distributed mainly over tree layer. The tree biomass distributed mainly in two or three dominate tree species. 展开更多

There exist some controversies over the larger zoogeographic divisions of the arid areas of Central Asia, whose characteristics include complex ecological environments, complex fauna origins and unique patterns of animal distribution. The aim of this study was to determine, using quantitative analysis, the distribution patterns of amphibians and reptiles in the arid areas of Central Asia, whose various physiographical regions were divided into 17 Operative Geographical Units (OGUs). Based on the presence or absence of 52 amphibian and reptile genera in the 17 OGUs, and by making use of the Czekanowski Similarity Index, the Baroni-Urbani and Buser's Similarity Index, and the strong and weak boundary test, we studied the biotic boundaries within these contested regions. In accordance with our results, the classification dendrogram was divided into two main branches. One branch is composed of the northern OGUs of the Altai Mountains which are a part of the Euro-Siberian Subrealm. The other branch includes all of the OGUs south of the Altai Mountains, which belong to the Central Asia Subrealm. There is a significantly weak biotic boundary (DW〉0, GW〉GS, P〈0.01) between the Euro-Siberian Subrealm and the Central Asia Subrealm that corre- sponded to the transitional zones. The boundary between the two subrealms runs along the Altai Mountains, the Sayan Mountains, the Hangai Mountains and the Mongolian Dagurr Mountains. The boundaries between the main branches in the Central Asia Subrealm are weak, reflecting the widespread existence of transitional zones in the arid areas of Central Asia. The Tianshan Mountains should be elevated to form its own separate region, "the Middle Asian Mountain Region", which, due to its special fauna and environment, would be classified at the same level as the Mongolia-Xinjiang Region. With the approach of creating a cluster analysis dendogram based upon the genera of amphibians and reptiles, the relationship of these higher level zoogeographical divisions was successfully resolved and the error of long-branch attraction was also avoided. With our clustering dendrogram as the foundation, the in- dependence test was applied to strong and weak boundaries, and this resolved the problem of where to attribute the transition areas and revealed as well the barrier effect that physical, geographic boundaries have upon amphibians and reptiles. The approach of combining genera clustering analysis with a statistical boundary test should be applicable not only to the distribution patterns of other animal groups, but also to delineating large-scale zoogeographical divisions. 展开更多
