Existing approaches for addressing long-term extreme responses are extremely cumbersome for adoption. This work aims to develop an approach for the long-term extreme-response analysis of floating structures. A modified gradient-based retrieval algorithm in conjunction with the inverse first-order reliability method(IFORM) is proposed to enable the use of convolution models in long-term extreme analysis of structures with an analytical formula of response amplitude operator(RAO). The proposed algorithm ensures convergence stability and iteration accuracy and exhibits a higher computational efficiency than the traditional backtracking method. However, when the RAO of general offshore structures cannot be analytically expressed, the convolutional integration method fails to function properly. A numerical discretization approach is further proposed for offshore structures in the case when the analytical expression of the RAO is not feasible. Through iterative discretization of environmental contours(ECs) and RAOs, a detailed procedure is proposed to calculate the long-term response extremes of offshore structures. The validity and accuracy of the proposed approach are tested using a floating offshore wind turbine as a numerical example. The long-term extreme heave responses of various return periods are calculated via the IFORM in conjunction with a numerical discretization approach. The environmental data corresponding to N-year structural responses are located inside the ECs, which indicates that the selection of design points directly along the ECs yields conservative design results.展开更多

Although current methods are effective for solving the static response problem of structures with interval parameters with small uncertainties, these methods may fail to estimate the region of the static response of uncertain structures if the uncertainties in the parameters are fairly large. To resolve this problem, first, the general expression of the static response of structures in terms of structural parameters is derived based on the second-order Taylor series expansion. Then the problem of determining the bounds of the static response of uncertain structures is transformed into a series of quadratic problems with box constraints. These quadratic problems with box constraints can be solved using the DCA approach effectively. The numerical examples are given to illustrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the proposed method when comparing with other existing methods.展开更多

The model’s response (<em>i.e.</em>, model result of interest) is a generic nonlinear function of the model’s forward and adjoint state functions, and also depends on the imprecisely known boundaries and model parameters. In the practically important particular case when the response is a scalar-valued functional of the forward and adjoint state functions characterizing a model comprising N parameters, the 2nd-CASAM requires a single large-scale computation using the First-Level Adjoint Sensitivity System (1st-LASS) for obtaining all of the first-order response sensitivities, and at most N large-scale computations using the Second-Level Adjoint Sensitivity System (2nd-LASS) for obtaining exactly all of the second-order response sensitivities. In contradistinction, forward other methods would require (<em>N</em>2/2 + 3 <em>N</em>/2) large-scale computations for obtaining all of the first- and second-order sensitivities. This work also shows that constructing and solving the 2nd-LASS requires very little additional effort beyond the construction of the 1st-LASS needed for computing the first-order sensitivities. Solving the equations underlying the 1st-LASS and 2nd-LASS requires the same computational solvers as needed for solving (<em>i.e.</em>, “inverting”) either the forward or the adjoint linear operators underlying the initial model. Therefore, the same computer software and “solvers” used for solving the original system of equations can also be used for solving the 1st-LASS and the 2nd-LASS. Since neither the 1st-LASS nor the 2nd-LASS involves any differentials of the operators underlying the original system, the 1st-LASS is designated as a “<u>first-level</u>” (as opposed to a “first-order”) adjoint sensitivity system, while the 2nd-LASS is designated as a “<u>second-level</u>” (rather than a “second-order”) adjoint sensitivity system. Mixed second-order response sensitivities involving boundary parameters may arise from all source terms of the 2nd-LASS that involve the imprecisely known boundary parameters. Notably, the 2nd-LASS encompasses an automatic, inherent, and independent “solution verification” mechanism of the correctness and accuracy of the 2nd-level adjoint functions needed for the efficient and exact computation of the second-order sensitivities.展开更多

By enabling, in premiere, the exact computations of sensitivities to interface and boundary parameters and conditions, the 1st-CASAM enables the quantification of the effects of manufacturing tolerances on the responses of physical and engineering systems.展开更多

The model response considered in this work is a reaction-rate detector response, which provides the average interactions of particles with the respective detector or, alternatively, the time-average of the concentration of a mixture of substances in a medium. The definition of this model response includes both uncertain boundary points of the benchmark, thereby providing both direct and indirect contributions to the response sensitivities stemming from the boundaries. The model response is the value of the model’s state function (particle concentration or particle flux) at a point in phase-space, which would simulate a pointwise measurement of the respective state function. This paradigm model admits exact closed-form expressions for all of the 1st- and 2nd-order response sensitivities to the model’s uncertain parameters and domain boundaries. These closed-form expressions can be used to verify the numerical results of production and/or commercial software, e.g., particle transport codes. Therefore, this paradigm model could serve as a stringent benchmark for inter-comparing the performances of all deterministic and statistical sensitivity analysis methods, including the 2nd-CASAM.展开更多

A useful approach in multi-component analysis and modeling is to directly solve the elastic wave equations for the pure P- or S-wavefields, referred as the separate elastic wave equa- tions. In this study, we compare two kinds of such wave equations: the first-order (velocity-stress) and the second- order (displacement-stress) separate elastic wave equa- tions, with the first-order (velocity-stress) and the second- order (displacement-stress) full (or mixed) elastic wave equations using a high-order staggered grid finite-differ- ence method. These mixed equations are computationallyslightly less expensive than solving the separate equations. The attraction of the separate equations is that they achieve separated P- and S-wavefields which can be used to test the efficacy of wave decomposition procedures in multi-com- ponent processing. The second-order separate elastic wave equations are a good choice because they offer information on the pure P-wave or S-wave displacements.展开更多

The perturbation term, first-order correlation energy, and first-order wave function are divided into two components, one component associated with the repulsive coulomb interaction and the other proportional to magnetic shielding. The resulting first-order wave functions are applied to calculate second-order energies within the model. We find that the second-order energies are independent of the nuclear charge screening constant in the unperturbed Hamiltonian with a central coulomb potential.展开更多

The reliability~ based topology optimization (RBTO) is a powerful and promising methodology for finding the optimum topologies with the uncertainties being explicitly considered, typically manifested by the use of reliability constraints. Generally, a direct integration of reliability concept and topol- ogy optimization may lead to computational difficulties. In view of this fact, three methodologies have been presented in this study, including the double-loop approach (the performance measure approach, PMA) and the decoupled approaches (the so-called Hybrid method and the sequential optimization and reliability assessment, SORA). For reliability analysis, the stochastic response surface method (SRSM) was applied, combining with the design of experiments generated by the sparse grid method, which has been proven as an effective and special discretization technique. The methodologies were investigated with three numerical examples considering the uncertainties including material properties and external loads. The optimal topologies obtained using the de- terministic, RBTOs were compared with one another; and useful conclusions regarding validity, accuracy and efficiency were drawn.展开更多

The first-order reliability method(FORM) is employed to calculate the reliability index. The response surface methodology(RSM) is used to assess the Hasofer e Lind reliability index and then it is optimized using a genetic algorithm(GA). The random variables used are the soil shear strength parameters and the seismic coefficients(khand kv). Two assumptions(normal and non-normal distribution) are used for the random variables. The assumption of uncorrelated variables was found to be conservative in comparison to that of negatively correlated soil shear strength parameters. The assumption of non-normal distribution for the random variables can induce a negative effect on the reliability index of the practical range of the seismic bearing capacity.展开更多

文摘Photovoltaic(PV)inverter,as a promising voltage/var control(VVC)resource, can supply flexible reactive power to reduce microgrid power loss and regulate bus voltage.Meanwhile, active power plays a significant role in microgrid voltage profile.Price-based demand response(PBDR)can shift load demand via determining time-varying prices, which can be regarded as an effective means for active power shifting. However, due to the different characteristics,PBDR and inverter-based VVC lack systematic coordination. Thus, this paper proposes a PBDR-supported three-stage hierarchically coordinated voltage control method, including day-ahead PBDR price scheduling,hour-ahead reactive power dispatch of PV inverters, and realtime local droop control of PV inverters.Considering their mutual influence,a stochastic optimization method is utilized to centrally or hierarchically coordinate adjacent two stages. To solve the bilinear constraints of droop control function, the problem is reformulated into a second-order cone programming relaxation model. Then, the concave constraints are convexified, forming a penalty convex-concave model for feasible solution recovery.Lastly,a convex-concave procedure-based solution algorithm is proposed to iteratively solve the penalty model. The proposed method is tested on 33-bus and IEEE 123-bus distribution networks and compared with other methods. The results verify the high efficiency of the proposed method to achieve power loss reduction and voltage regulation.

文摘Reliability and optimization are two key elements for structural design. The optimal topologies obtained using the de- terministic, RBTOs were compared with one another; and useful conclusions regarding validity, accuracy and efficiency were drawn.

文摘This paper presents a reliability analysis of the pseudo-static seismic bearing capacity of a strip foundation using the limit equilibrium theory. The assumption of non-normal distribution for the random variables can induce a negative effect on the reliability index of the practical range of the seismic bearing capacity.

文摘Ca_(3)Ti_(2)O_(7) with Ruddlesden-Popper structure exhibits the largest polarization among the known hybrid improper ferroelectrics. However, the high Curie temperature impedes the thorough study of phase transition through dielectric characterization.According to the previous theoretical design rule, the Curie temperature can be suppressed by increasing the tolerance factor. So,in the present work,high-quality Ca_(3-x)LaxTi_(2-x)Al_(x)O_(7)(x=0.0,0.1,0.2,0.3)ceramics with increased tolerance factors were successfully prepared. The amplitude of oxygen octahedral tilt mode indeed decreases with increasing tolerance factors, leading to a degeneration of ferroelectric polarization. However, the unexpected rigid rotation mode causes the composition-invariable coercive fields. The Curie temperatures decrease linearly with increasing x and tolerance factors. The variable-temperature dielectric constant confirms first-order improper ferroelectric transitions in Ca_(3)Ti_(2)O_(7)-based ceramics. The results of variable temperature Xray diffraction reveal the coexistence of two-phases below Curie temperature. The present work confidently confirms the first-order improper ferroelectric transition in Ca_(3)Ti_(2)O_(7)-based ceramics by combining results of variable-temperature dielectric response and in-situ X-ray powder diffraction.

文摘In this study, the frequency characteristics of the turbulent wind and the effects of wind-wave coupling on the low-and high-frequency responses of semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbines(FOWT)are investigated.Various wave load components, such as first-order wave loads, combined first-and second-order difference-frequency wave loads, combined first-and second-order sum-frequency wave loads, and first-and complete second-order wave loads are taken into consideration, while different turbulent environments are considered in aerodynamic loads. The com-parison is based on time histories and frequency spectra of platform motions and structural load responses and statistical values. The findings indicate that the second-order difference-frequency wave loads will significantly increase the natural frequency of low-frequency motion in the responses of the platform motion and structure load of the semi-submersible platform, which will cause structural fatigue damage.Under the action of turbulent wind, the influences of second-order wave loads on the platform motion and structural load response cannot be ignored, especially under extreme sea conditions. Therefore,in order to evaluate the dynamic responses of semi-submersible FOWT more accurately, the actual environment should be simulated more realistically.

文摘In this paper,we discuss the numerical accuracy of asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and multiscale finite element method(MsFEM)for periodic composite materials.Through numerical calculation of the model problems for four kinds of typical periodic composite materials, the main factors to determine the accuracy of first-order AHM and second-order AHM are found, and the physical interpretation of these factors is given.Furthermore, the way to recover multiscale solutions of first-order AHM and MsFEM is theoretically analyzed, and it is found that first-order AHM and MsFEM provide similar multiscale solutions under some assumptions. Finally, numerical experiments verify that MsFEM is essentially a first-order multiscale method for periodic composite materials.
