Geared-rotor systems are critical components in mechanical applications,and their performance can be severely affected by faults,such as profile errors,wear,pitting,spalling,flaking,and cracks.Profile errors in gear t...Geared-rotor systems are critical components in mechanical applications,and their performance can be severely affected by faults,such as profile errors,wear,pitting,spalling,flaking,and cracks.Profile errors in gear teeth are inevitable in manufacturing and subsequently accumulate during operations.This work aims to predict the status of gear profile deviations based on gear dynamics response using the digital model of an experimental rig setup.The digital model comprises detailed CAD models and has been validated against the expected physical behavior using commercial finite element analysis software.The different profile deviations are then modeled using gear charts,and the dynamic response is captured through simulations.The various features are then obtained by signal processing,and various ML models are then evaluated to predict the fault/no-fault condition for the gear.The best performance is achieved by an artificial neural network with a prediction accuracy of 97.5%,which concludes a strong influence on the dynamics of the gear rotor system due to profile deviations.展开更多
The application of carbon capture systems on ships is technically constrained by limited onboard space and the weight of the conventional absorption tower.The rotating packed bed(RPB)has emerged as a promising alterna...The application of carbon capture systems on ships is technically constrained by limited onboard space and the weight of the conventional absorption tower.The rotating packed bed(RPB)has emerged as a promising alternative due to its small footprint and high mass transfer performance.However,despite its advantages,the structural and vibration stability of RPBs at high rotational speed remains insufficiently studied,and no international design standards currently exist for RPBs.To address this gap,this study performed a comprehensive finite element analysis(FEA)using ANSYS to investigate the structural and dynamic characteristics of an RPB.A three-dimensional model was developed to evaluate the effects of material selection(316 stainless steel,aluminum alloy,titanium alloy),bearing stiffness,and unbalanced mass on deformation,stress,and natural frequencies.In the structural analysis,316 stainless steel exhibited the highest von Mises stress and deformation.However,it was confirmed that all three materials did not exceed their yield strengths at the maximum rotating speed.Modal analysis and Campbell diagrams showed no resonance risk within the rated speed range,and increased bearing stiffness led to higher natural frequencies and improved stability.The findings provide quantitative design guidance for material selection,bearing stiffness optimization,and vibration control in high-rotational-speed RPB systems.This study contributes to establishing a foundational framework for the mechanical reliability and standardization of marine carbon capture units.展开更多
Purpose–This paper aims to offer a novel viewpoint for improving performance and reliability by developing and optimizing suspension components in a Y25 bogie through material optimization based on wheel–rail intera...Purpose–This paper aims to offer a novel viewpoint for improving performance and reliability by developing and optimizing suspension components in a Y25 bogie through material optimization based on wheel–rail interactions under variable load and track conditions.Design/methodology/approach–The suspension system,a critical component ensuring adaptation to road and load conditions in all vehicle types,is especially vital in heavy freight and passenger trains.In this context,the suspension set of the Y25 bogie–commonly used in T€urkiye and Europe–was modelled using CATIAV5,and stress analyses have been performed by way of ANSYS using the finite element analysis(FEA)method.E300-520-M cast steel was selected for the bogie frame,while two different spring steels,61SiCr7 and 51CrV4,were considered for the suspension springs.The modeled system was subjected to numerical analysis under loading conditions.The resulting stresses and displacements were compared with the mechanical properties of the selected materials to validate the design.Findings–The results demonstrate that the mechanical strength and deformation characteristics of the suspension components vary according to the applied external loads.The stress and displacement responses of the system were found to be within the allowable limits of the selected materials,confirming the structural integrity and reliability of the design.The suspension set is deemed suitable for the prescribed material and environmental conditions,suggesting potential for practical application in real-world rail systems.Originality/value–This research contributes to the design and optimization of bogie suspension systems using advanced CAD/CAE tools.It thinks that the material selection and numerical validation approach presented here can guide future designs in heavy load rail applications and potentially improve both safety and performance.展开更多

In modern ZnO varistors,traditional aging mechanisms based on increased power consumption are no longer relevant due to reduced power consumption during DC aging.Prolonged exposure to both AC and DC voltages results i...In modern ZnO varistors,traditional aging mechanisms based on increased power consumption are no longer relevant due to reduced power consumption during DC aging.Prolonged exposure to both AC and DC voltages results in increased leakage current,decreased breakdown voltage,and lower nonlinearity,ultimately compromising their protective performance.To investigate the evolution in electrical properties during DC aging,this work developed a finite element model based on Voronoi networks and conducted accelerated aging tests on commercial varistors.Throughout the aging process,current-voltage characteristics and Schottky barrier parameters were measured and analyzed.The results indicate that when subjected to constant voltage,current flows through regions with larger grain sizes,forming discharge channels.As aging progresses,the current focus increases on these channels,leading to a decline in the varistor’s overall performance.Furthermore,analysis of the Schottky barrier parameters shows that the changes in electrical performance during aging are non-monotonic.These findings offer theoretical support for understanding the aging mechanisms and condition assessment of modern stable ZnO varistors.展开更多
This study presents and verifies a hybrid methodology for reliable determination of parameters in structural rheological models(Zener,Burgers,and Maxwell)describing the viscoelastic behavior of polyurethane specimens ...This study presents and verifies a hybrid methodology for reliable determination of parameters in structural rheological models(Zener,Burgers,and Maxwell)describing the viscoelastic behavior of polyurethane specimens manufactured using extrusion-based 3D printing.Through comprehensive testing,including cyclic compression at strain rates ranging from 0.12 to 120 mm/min(0%-15%strain)and creep/relaxation experiments(10%-30%strain),the lumped parameters were independently determined using both analytical and numerical solutions of the models’differential equations,followed by cross-verification in additional experiments.Numerical solutions for creep and relaxation problems were obtained using finite element analysis,with the three-parameter Mooney-Rivlin model and Prony series employed to simulate elastic and viscous stress components,respectively.Energy dissipation per cycle was quantified during cyclic compression tests.The results demonstrate that all three models adequately describe material behavior within the 0%-15%strain range across various strain rates.Comparative analysis revealed the Burgers model’s superior performance in characterizing creep and stress relaxation at low strain levels.While Zener and Burgers model parameters from uniaxial compression showed limited applicability for energy dissipation calculations,the generalized Maxwell model effectively captured viscoelastic properties across different strain rates.Notably,parameters derived from creep tests provided a more universal assessment of dissipative properties due to optimization based on characteristic curve regions.Both parameter sets described polyurethane’s elastic-hysteretic behavior with approximately 20%error,proving significantly more accurate than the linear strain-time dependence hypothesis.Finite element analysis(FEA)complemented numerical modeling by demonstrating that while the generalized Maxwell model effectively describes initial rapid stress-strain changes,FEA provides superior characterization of steady-state processes.This computational approach yields more physically representative results compared to simplified analytical solutions,despite certain limitations in transient analysis.展开更多

In this paper,we propose and analyze two second-order accurate finite difference schemes for the one-dimensional heat equation with concentrated capacity on a computa-tional domain=[a,b].We first transform the target ...In this paper,we propose and analyze two second-order accurate finite difference schemes for the one-dimensional heat equation with concentrated capacity on a computa-tional domain=[a,b].We first transform the target equation into the standard heat equation on the domain excluding the singular point equipped with an inner interface matching(IIM)condition on the singular point x=ξ∈(a,b),then adopt Taylor’s ex-pansion to approximate the IIM condition at the singular point and apply second-order finite difference method to approximate the standard heat equation at the nonsingular points.This discrete procedure allows us to choose different grid sizes to partition the two sub-domains[a,ξ]and[ξ,b],which ensures that x=ξ is a grid point,and hence the pro-posed schemes can be generalized to the heat equation with more than one concentrated capacities.We prove that the two proposed schemes are uniquely solvable.And through in-depth analysis of the local truncation errors,we rigorously prove that the two schemes are second-order accurate both in temporal and spatial directions in the maximum norm without any constraint on the grid ratio.Numerical experiments are carried out to verify our theoretical conclusions.展开更多

The problems of parameter mismatch, computational burden, and unfixed switching frequency are summarized. Moreover, other performance improvement schemes, such as the multi-vector application strategy, delay compensation scheme, and weight factor adjustment, are reviewed. The nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis has been widely used in the design and analysis of structural or geotechnical systems.The response sensitivities(or gradients) to the model parameters are of significant i...The nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis has been widely used in the design and analysis of structural or geotechnical systems.The response sensitivities(or gradients) to the model parameters are of significant importance in these realistic engineering problems.However the sensitivity calculation has lagged behind,leaving a gap between advanced FE response analysis and other research hotspots using the response gradient.The response sensitivity analysis is crucial for any gradient-based algorithms,such as reliability analysis,system identification and structural optimization.Among various sensitivity analysis methods,the direct differential method(DDM) has advantages of computing efficiency and accuracy,providing an ideal tool for the response gradient calculation.This paper extended the DDM framework to realistic complicated soil-foundation-structure interaction(SFSI) models by developing the response gradients for various constraints,element and materials involved.The enhanced framework is applied to three-dimensional SFSI system prototypes for a pilesupported bridge pier and a pile-supported reinforced concrete building frame structure,subjected to earthquake loading conditions.The DDM results are verified by forward finite difference method(FFD).The relative importance(RI) of the various material parameters on the responses of SFSI system are investigated based on the DDM response sensitivity results.The FFD converges asymptotically toward the DDM results,demonstrating the advantages of DDM(e.g.,accurate,efficient,insensitive to numerical noise).Furthermore,the RI and effects of the model parameters of structure,foundation and soil materials on the responses of SFSI systems are investigated by taking advantage of the sensitivity analysis results.The extension of DDM to SFSI systems greatly broaden the application areas of the d gradient-based algorithms,e.g.FE model updating and nonlinear system identification of complicated SFSI systems.展开更多

However, most existing hybrid precoder and combiner designs generally assume that infinite resolution phase shifters(PSs) are used to produce the analog beamformers. In a practical scene, the design with accurate PSs can lead to high hardware cost and power consumption. In this paper, we investigate the hybrid precoder and combiner design with finite resolution PSs in millimeter wave systems. We employ alternate optimization as the main strategy to jointly design analog precoder and combiner. In addition, we propose a low complexity algorithm, where the analog beamformers are implemented only by finite resolution PSs to maximize spectral efficiency. Then, the digital precoder and combiner are designed based on the obtained analog beamformers to improve the spectral efficiency. Finally, simulation results and mathematical analysis show that the proposed algorithm with low-resolution PSs can achieve near-optimal performance and have low complexity.展开更多

The dynamic governing equation is expressed as finite difference format and programmed by using MATLAB language. Compared with theoretical method, the finite difference method has been verified to be feasible by a case study. It is found that under seismic loading, the dynamic response of anchorage system is synchronously fluctuated with the seismic vibration. The change of displacement amplitude of material points is slight, and comparatively speaking, the displacement amplitude of the outside point is a little larger than that of the inside point, which shows amplification effect of surface. While the axial force amplitude transforms considerably from the inside to the outside. It increases first and reaches the peak value in the intersection between the anchoring section and free section, then decreases slowly in the free section. When considering damping effect of anchorage system, the finite difference method can reflect the time attenuation characteristic better, and the calculating result would be safer and more reasonable than the dynamic steady-state theoretical method. What is more, the finite difference method can be applied to the dynamic response analysis of harmonic and seismic random vibration for all kinds of anchor, and hence has a broad application prospect.展开更多

文摘This study presents and verifies a hybrid methodology for reliable determination of parameters in structural rheological models(Zener,Burgers,and Maxwell)describing the viscoelastic behavior of polyurethane specimens manufactured using extrusion-based 3D printing.Through comprehensive testing,including cyclic compression at strain rates ranging from 0.12 to 120 mm/min(0%-15%strain)and creep/relaxation experiments(10%-30%strain),the lumped parameters were independently determined using both analytical and numerical solutions of the models’differential equations,followed by cross-verification in additional experiments.Numerical solutions for creep and relaxation problems were obtained using finite element analysis,with the three-parameter Mooney-Rivlin model and Prony series employed to simulate elastic and viscous stress components,respectively.Energy dissipation per cycle was quantified during cyclic compression tests.The results demonstrate that all three models adequately describe material behavior within the 0%-15%strain range across various strain rates.Comparative analysis revealed the Burgers model’s superior performance in characterizing creep and stress relaxation at low strain levels.While Zener and Burgers model parameters from uniaxial compression showed limited applicability for energy dissipation calculations,the generalized Maxwell model effectively captured viscoelastic properties across different strain rates.Notably,parameters derived from creep tests provided a more universal assessment of dissipative properties due to optimization based on characteristic curve regions.Both parameter sets described polyurethane’s elastic-hysteretic behavior with approximately 20%error,proving significantly more accurate than the linear strain-time dependence hypothesis.Finite element analysis(FEA)complemented numerical modeling by demonstrating that while the generalized Maxwell model effectively describes initial rapid stress-strain changes,FEA provides superior characterization of steady-state processes.This computational approach yields more physically representative results compared to simplified analytical solutions,despite certain limitations in transient analysis.

文摘In this paper,we present a finite volume trigonometric weighted essentially non-oscillatory(TWENO)scheme to solve nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations that may exhibit non-smooth solutions.The present method is developed using the trigonometric scheme,which is based on zero,first,and second moments,and the direct discontinuous Galerkin(DDG)flux is used to discretize the diffusion term.Moreover,the DDG method directly applies the weak form of the parabolic equation to each computational cell,which can better capture the characteristics of the solution,especially the discontinuous solution.Meanwhile,the third-order TVD-Runge-Kutta method is applied for temporal discretization.Finally,the effectiveness and stability of the method constructed in this paper are evaluated through numerical tests.

文摘In this paper,we propose and analyze two second-order accurate finite difference schemes for the one-dimensional heat equation with concentrated capacity on a computa-tional domain=[a,b].We first transform the target equation into the standard heat equation on the domain excluding the singular point equipped with an inner interface matching(IIM)condition on the singular point x=ξ∈(a,b),then adopt Taylor’s ex-pansion to approximate the IIM condition at the singular point and apply second-order finite difference method to approximate the standard heat equation at the nonsingular points.This discrete procedure allows us to choose different grid sizes to partition the two sub-domains[a,ξ]and[ξ,b],which ensures that x=ξ is a grid point,and hence the pro-posed schemes can be generalized to the heat equation with more than one concentrated capacities.We prove that the two proposed schemes are uniquely solvable.And through in-depth analysis of the local truncation errors,we rigorously prove that the two schemes are second-order accurate both in temporal and spatial directions in the maximum norm without any constraint on the grid ratio.Numerical experiments are carried out to verify our theoretical conclusions.

文摘This study proposes a class of augmented subspace schemes for the weak Galerkin(WG)finite element method used to solve eigenvalue problems.The augmented subspace is built with the conforming linear finite element space defined on the coarse mesh and the eigen-function approximations in the WG finite element space defined on the fine mesh.Based on this augmented subspace,solving the eigenvalue problem in the fine WG finite element space can be reduced to the solution of the linear boundary value problem in the same WG finite element space and a low dimensional eigenvalue problem in the augmented sub-space.The proposed augmented subspace techniques have the second order convergence rate with respect to the coarse mesh size,as demonstrated by the accompanying error esti-mates.Finally,a few numerical examples are provided to validate the proposed numerical techniques.

文摘In this paper, the authors establish some theorems that can ascertain the zero solutions of systemsx(n+1)=f(n,x n)(1)are uniformly stable,asymptotically stable or uniformly asymptotically stable. In the obtained theorems, ΔV is not required to be always negative, where ΔV(n,x n)≡V(n+1,x(n+1)) -V(n,x(n))=V(n+1,f(n,x n))-V(n,x(n)), especially, in Theorem 1, ΔV may be even positive, which greatly improve the known results and are more convenient to use.
文摘Recently,the finite element method(FEM) has been commonly applied in the engineering analysis of rotor dynamics.Gyroscopic moments,rotary inertia,transverse shear deformation and gravity can be included in computational models of rotor-bearing systems.In this paper,a finite element model and its solution method are presented for the calculation of the dynamics of dual rotor systems.A typical structure with two rotor shafts is discussed and the procedure for obtaining the coupling motion equations of the subsystems is illustrated.A computer program is developed to solve critical speeds and to simulate the transient motion.The influence of gyroscopic moments on co-rotation and counter-rotation is analyzed,and the effect of the speed ratio on critical speed is studied.The dynamic characteristics under different conditions of increasing speed during start-up are demonstrated by comparison with transient nodal displacements.The presented model provides a complete foundation for further investigation of the dynamics of dual rotor systems.

文摘The finite/fixed-time stabilization and tracking control is currently a hot field in various systems since the faster convergence can be obtained. By contrast to the asymptotic stability,the finite-time stability possesses the better control performance and disturbance rejection property. Different from the finite-time stability, the fixed-time stability has a faster convergence speed and the upper bound of the settling time can be estimated. Moreover, the convergent time does not rely on the initial information.This work aims at presenting an overview of the finite/fixed-time stabilization and tracking control and its applications in engineering systems. Firstly, several fundamental definitions on the finite/fixed-time stability are recalled. Then, the research results on the finite/fixed-time stabilization and tracking control are reviewed in detail and categorized via diverse input signal structures and engineering applications. Finally, some challenging problems needed to be solved are presented.

文摘This paper focuses on the problem of adaptive finitetime fault-tolerant control for a class of non-lower-triangular nonlinear systems.The faults encountered in the control system include the actuator faults and the abrupt system fault.By applying backstepping design and neural networks approximation,an adaptive finite-time fault-tolerant control scheme is developed.It is shown that the proposed controller ensures that all signals in the closed-loop system are semi-globally practically finite-time stable and the track-ing error converges to a small neighborhood around the origin within finite time.The simulation is carried out to explain the validity of the developed strategy.

文摘Permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSMs)have been widely employed in the industry. Finite-control-set model predictive control(FCS-MPC), as an advanced control scheme, has been developed and applied to improve the performance and efficiency of the holistic PMSM drive systems. Based on the three elements of model predictive control, this paper provides an overview of the superiority of the FCS-MPC control scheme and its shortcomings in current applications. The problems of parameter mismatch, computational burden, and unfixed switching frequency are summarized. Moreover, other performance improvement schemes, such as the multi-vector application strategy, delay compensation scheme, and weight factor adjustment, are reviewed. Finally, future trends in this field is discussed, and several promising research topics are highlighted.

文摘The nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis has been widely used in the design and analysis of structural or geotechnical systems.The response sensitivities(or gradients) to the model parameters are of significant importance in these realistic engineering problems.However the sensitivity calculation has lagged behind,leaving a gap between advanced FE response analysis and other research hotspots using the response gradient.The response sensitivity analysis is crucial for any gradient-based algorithms,such as reliability analysis,system identification and structural optimization.Among various sensitivity analysis methods,the direct differential method(DDM) has advantages of computing efficiency and accuracy,providing an ideal tool for the response gradient calculation.This paper extended the DDM framework to realistic complicated soil-foundation-structure interaction(SFSI) models by developing the response gradients for various constraints,element and materials involved.The enhanced framework is applied to three-dimensional SFSI system prototypes for a pilesupported bridge pier and a pile-supported reinforced concrete building frame structure,subjected to earthquake loading conditions.The DDM results are verified by forward finite difference method(FFD).The relative importance(RI) of the various material parameters on the responses of SFSI system are investigated based on the DDM response sensitivity results.The FFD converges asymptotically toward the DDM results,demonstrating the advantages of DDM(e.g.,accurate,efficient,insensitive to numerical noise).Furthermore,the RI and effects of the model parameters of structure,foundation and soil materials on the responses of SFSI systems are investigated by taking advantage of the sensitivity analysis results.The extension of DDM to SFSI systems greatly broaden the application areas of the d gradient-based algorithms,e.g.FE model updating and nonlinear system identification of complicated SFSI systems.

文摘Hybrid precoding and combining have been considered as a promising technology, which can provide a compromise between hardware complexity and system performance in millimeter wave multiple-input multiple-output systems. However, most existing hybrid precoder and combiner designs generally assume that infinite resolution phase shifters(PSs) are used to produce the analog beamformers. In a practical scene, the design with accurate PSs can lead to high hardware cost and power consumption. In this paper, we investigate the hybrid precoder and combiner design with finite resolution PSs in millimeter wave systems. We employ alternate optimization as the main strategy to jointly design analog precoder and combiner. In addition, we propose a low complexity algorithm, where the analog beamformers are implemented only by finite resolution PSs to maximize spectral efficiency. Then, the digital precoder and combiner are designed based on the obtained analog beamformers to improve the spectral efficiency. Finally, simulation results and mathematical analysis show that the proposed algorithm with low-resolution PSs can achieve near-optimal performance and have low complexity.

文摘Based on some assumptions, the dynamic analysis model of anchorage system is established. The dynamic governing equation is expressed as finite difference format and programmed by using MATLAB language. Compared with theoretical method, the finite difference method has been verified to be feasible by a case study. It is found that under seismic loading, the dynamic response of anchorage system is synchronously fluctuated with the seismic vibration. The change of displacement amplitude of material points is slight, and comparatively speaking, the displacement amplitude of the outside point is a little larger than that of the inside point, which shows amplification effect of surface. While the axial force amplitude transforms considerably from the inside to the outside. It increases first and reaches the peak value in the intersection between the anchoring section and free section, then decreases slowly in the free section. When considering damping effect of anchorage system, the finite difference method can reflect the time attenuation characteristic better, and the calculating result would be safer and more reasonable than the dynamic steady-state theoretical method. What is more, the finite difference method can be applied to the dynamic response analysis of harmonic and seismic random vibration for all kinds of anchor, and hence has a broad application prospect.
