Material damage is considered. By introducing the dislocation density function and using the integral transform, the problem is reduced to algebraic equations and can be solved with the collocation dots method in the Laplace domain. Time response of DSIF is calculated with the inverse Laplace integral transform. The results show that the mode Ⅱ DSIF increases with the shear relaxation parameter, shear module and Poisson ratio, while decreases with the swell relaxation parameter. Damage shielding only occurs at the initial stage of crack propagation. The singular index of crack tip is -0.5 and independent on the material parameters, damage conditions of materials, and time. The oscillatory index is controlled by viscoelastic material parameters.展开更多

Strength increase and splitting failure have been observed during dynamic tests of rock materials. However, the failure mechanism still remains unclear. In this work, based on laboratory tests, numerical simulations with the particle flow code(PFC) were carried out to reproduce the micro-fracturing process of granite specimens. Shear and tensile cracks were both recorded to investigate the failure mode of rocks under different loading conditions. At the same time, a dynamic damage model based on the Weibull distribution was established to predict the deformation and degradation behavior of specimens. It is found that micro-cracks play important roles in controlling the dynamic deformation and failure process of rock under impact loadings. The sharp increase in the number of cracks may be the reason for the strength increase of rock under high strain rates. Tensile cracks tend to be the key reason for splitting failure of specimens. Numerical simulation of crack propagation by PFC can give vivid description of the failure process. However, it is not enough for evaluation of material degradation. The dynamic damage model is able to predict the stress-strain relationship of specimens reasonably well, and can be used to explain the degradation of specimens under impact loadings at macro-scale. Crack and damage can describe material degradation at different scales and can be used together to reveal the failure mechanism of rocks.展开更多

文摘The effects of inclusions in powder superalloy FGH96 on low-cycle fatigue life were studied, and a low-cycle crack initiation life prediction model based on the theory of damage mechanics was proposed. The damage characterization parameter was proposed after the construction of damage evolution equations. Fatigue tests of the powder superalloy specimens with and without inclusion were conducted at 530 and 600 ℃, and the model verification was carried out for specimens with elliptical, semi-elliptical, polygon and strip-shaped surface/subsurface inclusion. The stress analysis was performed by finite element simulation and the predicted life was calculated. The results showed a satisfying agreement between predicted and experimental life.

文摘The crack volume strain method and acoustic emission(AE)method are used to analyze the anisotropy of the crack initiation strength, damage strength, the failure mode and the AE characteristics of coal reservoir. The results show that coal reservoirs show obvious anisotropic characteristics in compressive strength, cracking initiation strength and damage strength. The compressive strength of coal reservoirs decreases with the increase of bedding angle, but the reservoirs with bedding angles of 450 and 900 differ little in compressive strength. The crack initiation strength and damage strength decrease first and then increase with the increase of bedding angle. The crack initiation strength and damage strength are the highest,at the bedding angle of 0°,moderate at the bedding angle of 90°,and lowest at the bedding angle of 45°.When the bedding angle is 0°,the failure of the coal reservoirs is mainly steady propagation of large-scale fractures. When the bedding angle is 45°,one type of failure is caused by steady propagation of small-scale fractures, and the other type of failure is due to a sudden instability of large-scale fractures. When the bedding angle is 90°,the failure is mainly demonstrated by a sudden-instability of small-scale fractures.Compared with the cumulative count method of the AE,the cumulative energy method is more suitable for determining crack initiation strength and damage strength of coal reservoirs.
文摘Damage tolerant methodology is increasingly used in aeronautical components, especially due the fact that the Aviation Regulation requires such an assessment in case an accidental damage occurs. At present, there is a strong and actual interest in applying such procedures to helicopter components that are subjected to high frequency cyclic loads. In this paper,an investigation on a damaged transmission shaft for a tail rotor transmission of an actual helicopter has been carried out focusing on the fatigue crack propagation.A complete sequence of experimental tests was performed in order to create an actual ballistic damage and to subsequently check the damage tolerant behaviour. The shaft was damaged by oblique ballistic impact and was subsequently subjected to torsional fatigue loading.During the fatigue cycles several cracks propagated from the ballistic damages. Both of these steps(impact and fatigue loading)were also simulated by a complex modelling approach based on Finite Element Models and fracture mechanics theory. The comparison between the experimental and numerical results shows a good agreement but it underlines the need for a very refined modelling technique capable to replicate all the features associated with the damage in order to reliably simulate the subsequent propagation phase.
文摘Crack damage factor expressed by Normalized Cockcroft&Latham(N C&L)criterion was used for estimating the crack damage accumulation during multiple passes equal-channel angular pressing(ECAP)of 6061Al rod.First the simulation of crack damage factor was carried out by a software DEFORM-3D,and then the ECAP experiments of 6061 rod were performed. The damage places were found locating at the upper and bottom surface of the rod after ECAP.It has also been demonstrated that the ECAP routes including route A,Bc and C have strong effects on the strain distribution and the strain accumulation from both the experiment and the simulation.

文摘To give an insight into the understanding of damage evolution and crack propagation in rocks,a series of uniaxial and biaxial compression numerical tests are carried out.The investigations show that damage evolution occurs firstly in the weak rock, the area around the flaw and the area between the flaw and the neighboring rock layer.Cracks mostly generate as tensile cracks under uniaxial compression and shear cracks under biaxial compression.Crack patterns are classified and divided. The relationship between the accumulated lateral displacement and the short radius(b)is fitted, and the equation of crack path is also established.

文摘The damage evolution process of non-penetrating cracks often causes some unexpected engineering disasters.Gypsum specimens containing non-penetrating crack(s)are used to study the damage evolution and characteristics under cyclic loading. The results show that under cyclic loading, the relationship between the number of non-penetrating crack(s)and the characteristic parameters(cyclic number, peak stress, peak strain, failure stress, and failure strain)of the pre-cracked specimens can be represented by a decreasing linear function. The damage evolution equation is fitted by calibrating the accumulative plastic strain for each cycle, and the damage constitutive equation is proposed by the concept of effective stress.Additionally,non-penetrating cracks are more likely to cause uneven stress distribution, damage accumulation, and local failure of specimen. The local failure can change the stress distribution and relieve the inhibition of non-penetrating crack extension and eventually cause a dramatic destruction of the specimen. Therefore, the evolution process caused by non-penetrating cracks can be regarded as one of the important reasons for inducing rockburst. These results are expected to improve the understanding of the process of spalling formation and rockburst and can be used to analyze the stability of rocks or rock structures.

文摘This paper studies the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF) at the interface in an adhesive joint under shear loading. The oscillatory index is controlled by viscoelastic material parameters.

文摘In the creep fatigue crack growth of GH4169 alloy, oxidation is a prominent damage source, which is mainly manifested as the oxidation damage zone in front of crack tip.In order to investigate the property of the oxidation damage zone formed in the creep fatigue crack growth, crack growth tests of directly aged GH4169 alloy were conducted at 650℃ in air under various load conditions.Interrupted tests were performed to observe the damage characteristics at crack tip.Block tests were systematically executed to quantify the dependency of oxidation damage zone size on load and holding time. The crack propagation of the GH4169 alloy has a close relationship with grain boundary oxidation at 650℃.An oxidation damage zone in front of crack tip includes intergranular microcracks and oxidised but uncracked grain boundaries. Its size has been calculated from transient crack growth rate and described as a function of maximum stress intensity factor and holding time.Based on oxidation damage zone size,a novel model has been developed to predict the creep fatigue crack growth rate of the GH4169 alloy at 650℃.

文摘This paper investigates the three-dimensional crack propagation and damage evolution process of metallic column shells under internal explosive loading. The calibration of four typical failure parameters for 40CrMnSiB steel was conducted through experiments and subsequently applied to simulations. The numerical simulation results employing the four failure criteria were compared with the differences and similarities observed in freeze-recovery tests and ultra-high-speed tests. This analysis addressed the critical issue of determining failure criteria for the fracture of a metal shell under internal explosive loads.Building upon this foundation, the damage parameter D_(c),linked to the cumulative crack density, was defined based on the evolution characteristics of a substantial number of cracks. The relationship between the damage parameter and crack velocity over time was established, and the influence of the internal central pressure on the damage parameter and crack velocity was investigated.Variations in the fracture modes were found under different failure criteria, with the principal strain failure criterion proving to be the most effective for simulating 3D crack propagation in a pure shear fracture mode.Through statistical analysis of the shell penetration fracture radius data,it was determined that the fracture radius remained essentially constant during the crack evolution process and could be considered a constant. The propagation velocity of axial cracks ranged between 5300 m/s and 12600 m/s,surpassing the Rayleigh wave velocity of the shell material and decreasing linearly with time. The increase in shell damage exhibited an initial rapid phase, followed by deceleration, demonstrating accelerated damage during the propagation stage of the blast wave and decelerated damage after the arrival of the rarefaction wave. This study provides an effective approach for investigating crack propagation and damage evolution. The derived crack propagation and damage evolution law serves as a valuable reference for the development of crack velocity theory and the construction of shell damage evolution modes.

文摘Failure of rock under impact loadings involves complex micro-fracturing and progressive damage. Crack and damage can describe material degradation at different scales and can be used together to reveal the failure mechanism of rocks.
