Fault Detection and Fault-Tolerant Control Based on Bi-LSTM Network and SPRT for Aircraft Braking System

The aircraft braking system is critical to ensure the safe take-off and landing of the aircraft.However,the braking system is often exposed to high temperatures and strong vibration working environments,which makes the sensor prone to failure.Sensor failure has the potential to compromise aircraft safety.In order to improve the safety of the aircraft braking system,a fault detection and fault-tolerant control(FDFTC)strategy for the aircraft brake pressure sensor is designed.Firstly,a model based on a bidirectional long short-term memory(Bi-LSTM)network is constructed to estimate the brake pressure.Then,the residual sequence is obtained by comparing the measured pressure with the estimated pressure.On this basis,the improved sequential probability ratio test(SPRT)method based on mathematical statistics is applied to analyze the residual sequence to detect the fault.Finally,simulation and hardware-in-the-loop(HIL)testing results indicate that the proposed FDFTC strategy can detect sensor faults in time and efficiently complete braking when faults occur.Hence,the proposed FDFTC strategy can effectively deal with the faults of the aircraft brake pressure sensor,which is of great significance to improve the reliability and safety of the aircraft. 展开更多

In view of the current sensors failure in electric pitch system,a variable universe fuzzy fault tolerant control method of electric pitch control system based on single current detection is proposed.When there is single or two-current sensor fault occurs,based on the proposed method the missing current information can be reconstructed by using direct current(DC)bus current sensor and the three-phase current can be updated in time within any two adjacent sampling periods,so as to ensure stability of the closed-loop system.And then the switchover and fault tolerant control of fault current sensor would be accomplished by fault diagnosis method based on adaptive threshold judgment.For the reconstructed signal error caused by the modulation method and the main control target of electric pitch system,a variable universe fuzzy control method is used in the speed loop,which can improve the anti-disturbance ability to load variation,and the robustness of fault tolerance system.The results show that the fault tolerant control method makes the variable pitch control system still has ideal control characteristics in case of sensor failure although part of the system performance is lost,thus the correctness of the proposed method is verified. 展开更多

A new fault tolerant control(FTC) via a controller reconfiguration approach for general stochastic nonlinear systems is studied.Different from the formulation of classical FTC methods,it is supposed that the measured information for the FTC is the probability density functions(PDFs) of the system output rather than its measured value.A radial basis functions(RBFs) neural network technique is proposed so that the output PDFs can be formulated in terms of the dynamic weighings of the RBFs neural network.As a result,the nonlinear FTC problem subject to dynamic relation between the input and the output PDFs can be transformed into a nonlinear FTC problem subject to dynamic relation between the control input and the weights of the RBFs neural network approximation to the output PDFs.The FTC design consists of two steps.The first step is fault detection and diagnosis(FDD),which can produce an alarm when there is a fault in the system and also locate which component has a fault.The second step is to adapt the controller to the faulty case so that the system is able to achieve its target.A linear matrix inequality(LMI) based feasible FTC method is applied such that the fault can be detected and diagnosed.An illustrated example is included to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm,and satisfactory results have been obtained. 展开更多

Based on a nonlinear state predictor (NSP) and a strong tracking filter (STF), a sensor fault tolerant generic model control (FTGMC) approach for a class of nonlinear time-delay processes is proposed. First, the NSP is introduced, and it is used to extend the conventional generic model control (GMC) to nonlinear processes with large input time-delay. Then the STF is adopted to estimate process states and sensor bias, the estimated sensor bias is used to drive a fault detection logic. When a sensor fault is detected, the estimated process states by the STF will be used to construct the process output to form a 'soft sensor', which is then used by the NSP (instead of the real outputs) to provide state predictors. These procedures constitute an active fault tolerant control scheme. Finally, simulation results of a three-tank-system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel Fault Tolerant Control(FTC)scheme based on accelerated Landweber iteration and redistribution mechanism for a horizontal takeoff horizontal landing reusable launch vehicle(RLV).First,an adaptive law based on fixed-time non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control(NFTSMC),which focuses on the attitude tracking controller design for RLV in the presence of model couplings,parameter uncertainties and external disturbances,is proposed to produce virtual control command.On this basis,a novel Control Allocation(CA)based on accelerated Landwber iteration is presented to realize proportional allocation of virtual control command among the actuators according to the effective gain as well as the distance from the current position of actuator to corresponding saturation limit.Meanwhile a novel redistribution mechanism is introduced to redistribute oversaturated command among healthy actuators(non-faulty or redundant).The proposed method can be applied to a real-time FTC system so that the controller reconfiguring is not required in case of actuator faults.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulations. 展开更多

First, a neural network(NN) identifier based on particle swarm optimization(PSO) is constructed to model the unknown system dynamics. By utilizing the estimated system states, the particle swarm optimized critic neural network(PSOCNN) is employed to solve the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation(HJBE) more efficiently.Then, a data-based FTC scheme, which consists of the NN identifier and the fault compensator, is proposed to achieve actuator fault tolerance. The stability of the closed-loop system under actuator faults is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability theorem. A fault tolerant control methodology based adaptive sliding mode(ASM) backstepping is proposed for near space vehicle(NSV) attitude control system under engine faults. The proposed scheme combined adaptive backstepping with the sliding mode control strategy could guarantee the system’s stability and track desired signals under external disturbances and engine faults. Firstly, attitude mode description and the engine faulty model are given. Secondly, a nominal control law is designed.Thirdly, a sliding mode observer is given later in order to estimate both the information of engine faults and external disturbances. An adaptive sliding mode technology based on the previous nominal control law is developed via updating faulty parameters. Finally,analyze the system’s fault-tolerant performance and reliability through experiment simulation, which verifies the proposed design of fault-tolerant control can tolerate engine faults, as well as the strong robustness for external disturbance. 展开更多

For the dynamic mode of spacecraft in faulty case,a fault diagnosis component is used for fault detection and estimation by using a nonlinear observer. According to the fault estimation information obtained during the fault diagnosis,the fault tolerant control scheme is developed by adopting the backstepping sliding mode control technique. Meanwhile,the Lyapunov theory is used to analyze the stability of the closed-loop attitude systems. This paper studies a robust adaptive compensation Fault Tolerant Control(FTC)for the medium-scale Unmanned Autonomous Helicopter(UAH)in the presence of external disturbances,actuator faults and input saturation.To improve the disturbance rejection capacity of the UAH system in actuator healthy case,an adaptive control method is adopted to cope with the external disturbances and a nominal controller is proposed to stabilize the system.Meanwhile,compensation control inputs are designed to reduce the negative effects derived from actuator faults and input saturation.Based on the backstepping control and inner-outer loop control technologies,a robust adaptive FTC scheme is developed to guarantee the tracking errors convergence.Under the presented FTC controller,the uniform ultimate boundedness of all closed-loop signals is ensured via Lyapunov stability analysis.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm. 展开更多

This paper presents an introductory overview on the development of fault-tolerant control systems. For this reason, the paper is written in a tutorial fashion to summarize some of the important results in this subject area deliberately without going into details in any of them. However, key references are provided from which interested readers can obtain more detailed information on a particular subject. It is necessary to mention that, throughout this paper, no efforts were made to provide an exhaustive coverage on the subject matter. In fact, it is far from it. The paper merely represents the view and experience of its author. It can very well be that some important issues or topics were left out unintentionally. If that is the case, the author sincerely apologizes in advance.After a brief account of fault-tolerant control systems, particularly on the original motivations, and the concept of redundancies, the paper reviews the development of fault-tolerant control systems with highlights to several important issues from a historical perspective. The general approaches to fault-tolerant control has been divided into passive, active, and hybrid approaches. The analysis techniques for active fault-tolerant control systems are also discussed. Practical applications of faulttolerant control are highlighted from a practical and industrial perspective. Finally, some critical issues in this area are discussed as open problems for future research/development in this emerging field. 展开更多

This paper studies the fault tolerant control, adaptive approach, for linear time-invariant two-time-scale and three-time-scale singularly perturbed systems in presence of actuator faults and external disturbances. First, the full order system will be controlled using v-dependent control law. The corresponding Lyapunov equation is ill-conditioned due to the presence of slow and fast phenomena. Secondly, a time-scale decomposition of the Lyapunov equation is carried out using singular perturbation method to avoid the numerical stiffness. A composite control law based on local controllers of the slow and fast subsystems is also used to make the control law ε-independent. The designed fault tolerant control guarantees the robust stability of the global closed-loop singularly perturbed system despite loss of effectiveness of actuators. The stability is proved based on the Lyapunov stability theory in the case where the singular perturbation parameter is sufficiently small. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed method. 展开更多

This paper investigates the active fault tolerant cooperative control problem for a team of wheeled mobile robots whose actuators are subjected to partial or severe faults during the team mission.The cooperative robots network only requires the interaction between local neighbors over the undirected graph and does not assume the existence of leaders in the network.We assume that the communication exists all the time during the mission.To avoid the system's deterioration in the event of a fault,a set of extended Kalman filters(EKFs)are employed to monitor the actuators'behavior for each robot.Then,based on the online information given by the EKFs,a reconfigurable sliding mode control is proposed to take an appropriate action to accommodate that fault.In this research study,two types of faults are considered.The first type is a partial actuator fault in which the faulty actuator responds to a partial of its control input,but still has the capability to continue the mission when the control law is reconfigured.In addition,the controllers of the remaining healthy robots are reconfigured simultaneously to move within the same capability of the faulty one.The second type is a severe actuator fault in which the faulty actuator is subjected to a large loss of its control input,and that lead the exclusion of that faulty robot from the team formation.Consequently,the remaining healthy robots update their reference trajectories and form a new formation shape to achieve the rest of the team mission. 展开更多

Switched reluctance motor power converters are prone to open-circuit faults because it need to withstand large voltages and currents.Due to the small number of traditional asymmetrical half bridge topology switches,it is difficult to carry out fault tolerant control when power converters has an open-circuit fault,resulting in larger output torque ripple.This paper presents a five-level power converter based on the traditional asymmetric half-bridge power converter.The five-level topology has more switching states and can work in multi-level mode.Based on the topology,different excitation and demagnetization voltages can be choose at different speeds.A fault-tolerance strategy is developed to decrease the influence of the open-circuit fault.The five-level power converter has four switches per phase,and two of them will be used in one of the operating mode.So the remaining two of the switches can be used for safe backup,enabling fault-tolerant control when an open-circuit occur.Since each phase of the five-level power converter proposed in this paper is independent of each other,a reasonable control strategy can be used to avoid the unbalance of the midpoint potential.Finally,the topology and fault-tolerant strategy proposed in this paper are verified by simulation and experiment. 展开更多

Implementing a control system over a communication network induces inevitable time delays that may degrade performance and even cause instability. One of the most effective ways to reduce the negative effect of delays on the performance of networked control system (NCS) is to reduce network traffic. In this paper, adjustable deadbands are explored as a solution to reduce network traffic in NCS. A method of fault-tolerant control of networked control system is presented, which takes into account system response as well as network traffic. The integrity design for a kind of NCS with sensor failures and actuator failures is analyzed based on robust fault-tolerant control theory and information scheduling. After detailed theoretical analysis, the paper also provides the simulation results, which further validate the proposed scheme. 展开更多
