Methods Sixty cases of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy were divided into a treatment group and a control group with 30 cases in each group. Acupuncture at neck Jiájǐ (EX) points (Extra) and blood-letting puncture with the plum-blossom needle were adopted for the treatment group. And acupuncture at neck Jiájǐ (EX) points was adopted for the control group. The therapeutic effect, visual analogue scale (VAS) and the numbness score were observed after 2 treatment courses. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was 86.7% (26/30), while the rate of the control group was 83.3% (25/30). Comparison of the differences of the two groups was without statistic significance (P0.05). The VAS scores of the two groups after treatment were both improved (both P0.01), but without statistic significance between the two groups (P0.05). The numbness scores of the two groups after treatment were both better than those before treatment (P0.01). The therapeutic effect on numbness of the extremities of the treatment group was better than that of the control group (P0.05). Conclusion Blood-letting puncture with the plum flower needle has a satisfactory effect on treatment of numbness of the extremities of patient with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy.展开更多

Methods: A total of 102 patients with primary hypertension due to liver-fire flaming-up were randomly divided into a Taichong (LR 3) group, a Neiguan (PC 6) group and a Qiaogong (Extra) group according to the random number table, with 34 cases in each group. Patients in the three groups received 4-week tuina treatment with the corresponding acupoint respectively. The blood pressure was recorded by ben chtop mercury sphygmoma no meter before tuina, immediately after tuina treatment, 30 min and 60 min after tuina treatment with the patient in a supine position in a quiet treatment room. The total effective rate was observed. Results: The systolic and diastolic blood pressures of the three groups all decreased after treatment (all P<0.05). The decrease of systolic and diastolic blood pressure at different time points after treatment in the Qiaogong (Extra) group and the Taichong (LR 3) group were better than those in the Neiguan (PC 6) group (all P<0.05). Qiaogong (Extra) group had the highest total effective rate though there was no statistical differenee in the total effective rate among the three groups (P>0.05). Con elusion: Treati ng primary hypertensi on due to liver-fire flami ng-up with tuina at Taich ong (LR 3), Neigua n (PC 6) and Qiaogong (Extra) can reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure respectively, among which Qiaogong (Extra) has the highest total effective rate.展开更多

Methods: A total of 112 patients with primary insomnia were randomized into an acupuncture group and a medication group according to the visiting sequence, 56 cases in each group. The acupuncture group was intervened by acupuncture at Baihui(GV 20), Sishencong(EX-HN 1) and Anmian [Extra, locates at the midpoint between Yiming(EX-HN 14) and Fengchi(GB 20)], and points selected based on syndrome differentiation, while the medication group was by oral intake of zopiclone tablet. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) was measured before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy was compared after 1 month of treatment. Results: After treatment, subscales of PSQI and global score in the acupuncture group were improved, and intra-group comparisons showed statistical differences(all P〈0.05); subscales of sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration and global score of PSQI in the medication group were improved, showing statistical differences(all P〈0.05). Inter-group comparison of global and subscales scores of PSQI showed statistical differences(all P〈0.05). The total effective rate in the acupuncture group was 92.9%, higher than 67.9% in the medication group, and between-group comparison showed a statistical difference(P〈0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture at Baihui(GV 20), Sishencong(EX-HN 1) and Anmian [Extra, locates at the midpoint between Yiming(EX-HN 14) and Fengchi(GB 20)] as the main treatment method can produce a better effect than oral intake of zopiclone tablet.展开更多
