Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)is a common neurodevelopmental disorder in children,characterized by social interaction,communication difficulties,and repetitive and stereotyped behaviors.Existing intervention methods have limitations,such as requiring long treatment periods and needing to be more convenient to implement.Extended Reality(XR)technology offers a virtual environment to enhance children's social,communication,and self-regulation skills.This paper compares XR theoretical models,application examples,and intervention effects.The study reveals that XR intervention therapy is mainly based on cognitive rehabilitation,teaching,and social-emotional learning theories.It utilizes algorithms,models,artificial intelligence(AI),eye-tracking,and other technologies for interaction,achieving diverse intervention outcomes.Participants showed effective improvement in competency barriers using XR-based multimodal interactive platforms.However,Mixed Reality(MR)technology still requires further development.Future research should explore multimsodal interaction technologies combining XR and AI,optimize models,prioritize the development of MR intervention scenarios,and sustain an optimal intervention level. 展开更多

Background The advancements of Artificial Intelligence,Big Data Analytics,and the Internet of Things paved the path to the emergence and use of Digital Twins(DTs)as technologies to“twin”the life of a physical entity in different fields,ranging from industry to healthcare.At the same time,the advent of eXtended Reality(XR)in industrial and consumer electronics has provided novel paradigms that may be put to good use to visualize and interact with DTs.XR technologies can support human-to-human interactions for training and remote assistance and could transform DTs into collaborative intelligence tools.Methods We here present the Human Collaborative Intelligence empowered Digital Twin framework(HCLINT-DT)integrating human annotations(e.g.,textual and vocal)to allow the creation of an all-in-one-place resource to preserve such knowledge.This framework could be adopted in many fields,supporting users to learn how to carry out an unknown process or explore others’past experiences.Results The assessment of such a framework has involved implementing a DT supporting human annotations,reflected in both the physical world(Augmented Reality)and the virtual one(Virtual Reality).Con-clusions The outcomes of the interface design assessment confirm the interest in developing HCLINT-DT-based applications.Finally,we evaluated how the proposed framework could be translated into a manufacturing context. 展开更多

Enhancing the sense of presence of participants is an important issue in terms of security awareness for remote collaboration in extended reality.However,conventional methods are insufficient to be aware of remote situations and to search for and control remote workspaces.This study pro-poses a spatial multi-presence system that simultaneously provides multiple spaces while rapidly exploring these spaces as users perform collaborative work in an extended reality environment.The proposed system provides methods for arranging and manipulating remote and personal spaces by creating an annular screen that is invisible to the user.The user can freely arrange remote participants and their workspaces on the annular screen.Because users can simultaneously view various spaces arranged on the annular screen,they can perform collaborative work while simultaneously feeling the presence of multiple spaces and can be fully immersed in a specific space.In addition,the personal spaces where users work can also be arranged through the annular screen.According to the results of the performance evaluations,users participating in remote collaborative works can visualize the spaces of multiple users simultaneously and feel their presence,thereby increasing their understanding of the spaces.Moreover,the proposed system reduces the time to perform tasks and gain awareness of the emergency in remote workspaces. 展开更多

It is possible for cost professionals to prepare an informed and compen­dious cost plan by identifying all the factors that cause cost overruns,variations,safety hazards and others without having a significant prior experience.The implementation of Extended Reality can address this phenomenon.The paper aims to introduce the concept of Extended Real­ity in the field of quantity surveying by exploring its untapped potential and also looks to identify critical barriers in implementing this technol­ogy.A detailed review of literature study produced eight critical factors acting as barriers in successful implementation.With the suggestions from the industry professionals,the inter-relationship among these factors were established and prioritised using Interpretative Structural Model­ling(ISM)tool.Further,these factors were categorised using MICMAC(Cross-Impact Matrix Multiplication Applied to Classification)analysis.This study identifies,lack of expertise and lack of suitable software as the key driving factors in successful implementation and all the remaining factors are directly or indirectly influenced by them.The sample size con­sidered in building the ISM network is limited to the Indian construction industry.The disadvantages of Extended Reality have not been covered in the study.There may be several negative repercussions to human health due to this technology.This study can be used by industry professionals in understanding how advance technology like this can overcome many challenges pertinent to cost planning and estimation.This study stands out among the few research topics which contribute to reducing the knowledge gap among the cost professionals irrespective of their experi­ence. 展开更多

Mixed reality head mounted displays for enhanced indoor point cloud segmentation with virtual seeds

Mixed Reality(MR)Head Mounted Displays(HMDs)offer a hitherto underutilized set of advantages compared to conventional 3D scanners.These benefits,inherent to MR-HMDs albeit not originally intended for such appli-cations,encompass the freedom of hand movement,hand tracking capabilities,and real-time mesh visualization.This study leverages these attributes to enhance indoor scanning process.The primary innovation lies in the con-ceptualization of manual-positioned MR virtual seeds for the purpose of indoor point cloud segmentation via a region-growing approach.The proposed methodology is effectively implemented using the HoloLens 2 platform.An application is designed to enable the remote placement of virtual tags based on the user’s visual focus on the MR-HMD display.This non-intrusive interface is further enriched with expedited tag saving and deletion functionalities,as well as augmented tag visualization through overlaying them on real-world objects.To assess the practicality of the proposed method,a comprehensive real-world case study spanning an area of 330 s^(2) is conducted.Remarkably,the survey demonstrates remarkable efficiency,with 20 virtual tags swiftly deployed,each requiring a mere 2 s for precise positioning.Subsequently,these virtual tags are employed as seeds in a region-growing algorithm for point cloud segmentation.The accuracy of virtual tag positioning is found to be exceptional,with an average error of 2.4±1.8 cm.Importantly,the user experience is significantly enhanced,leading to improved seed positioning and,consequently,more accurate final segmentation results. 展开更多

A Data-Driven Systematic Review of the Metaverse in Transportation:Current Research,Computational Modeling,and Future Trends

Metaverse technologies are increasingly promoted as game-changers in transport planning,connectedautonomous mobility,and immersive traveler services.However,the field lacks a systematic review of what has been achieved,where critical technical gaps remain,and where future deployments should be integrated.Using a transparent protocol-driven screening process,we reviewed 1589 records and retained 101 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles(2021–2025)that explicitly frame their contributions within a transport-oriented metaverse.Our reviewreveals a predominantly exploratory evidence base.Among the 101 studies reviewed,17(16.8%)apply fuzzymulticriteria decision-making,36(35.6%)feature digital-twin visualizations or simulation-based testbeds,9(8.9%)present hardware-in-the-loop or field pilots,and only 4(4.0%)report performance metrics such as latency,throughput,or safety under realistic network conditions.Over time,the literature evolves fromearly conceptual sketches(2021–2022)through simulation-centered frameworks(2023)to nascent engineering prototypes(2024–2025).To clarify persistent gaps,we synthesize findings into four foundational layers—geometry and rendering,distributed synchronization,cryptographic integrity,and human factors—enumerating essential algorithms(homogeneous 4×4 transforms,Lamport clocks,Raft consensus,Merkle proofs,sweep-and-prune collision culling,Q-learning,and real-time ergonomic feedback loops).A worked bus-fleet prototype illustrates how blockchain-based ticketing,reinforcement learning-optimized traffic signals,and extended reality dispatch can be integrated into a live digital twin.This prototype is supported by a threephase rollout strategy.Advancing the transport metaverse from blueprint to operation requires open data schemas,reproducible edge–cloud performance benchmarks,cross-disciplinary cyber-physical threat models,and city-scale sandboxes that apply their mathematical foundations in real-world settings. 展开更多

Phantom limb is a disabling neuropsychiatric condition among amputees resulting in pain and disturbance that impact their functions,quality of life,and autonomy.While pharmacological approaches appeared to be ineffec-tive,the emergence and integration of X-reality,including virtual reality,augmented reality,and mixed reality,might elevate the effectiveness of mirror therapy in managing phantom limb.The objective of this study is to review X-reality for managing phantom pain.A systematic search was conducted on PubMed,Scopus,Web of Science,PsycINFO,Embase,and CINAHL.Sixteen(n=16)studies containing 66 lower-limb and 53 upper-limb amputees were included for the review over the thematic framework of amputee characteristics and intervention designs,while thirteen(n=13)studies were further proceeded for the meta-analysis.We found eleven studies on virtual reality(n=11),four studies on marker-based augmented reality(n=4)and one study on mixed reality(n=1)with a total of 40 game/task themes involving,motor skills,motor control,and stimulus-sensing.Regardless,all these interventions adopted the movement representation strategies with different techniques.Overall,the X-reality interventions reduced the pain level of the amputees(mean difference:-2.30,95%CI,-3.38 to-1.22),especially the virtual reality subgroup(mean difference:-2.83,95%CI,-4.43 to-1.22).However,there were substantial heterogeneity and partially explained by the subgroup analysis on publication year.The strength of evidence was limited by case reports and case series in this review. 展开更多

Metaverse describes a new shape of cyberspace and has become a hot-trending word since 2021.There are many explanations about what Meterverse is and attempts to provide a formal standard or definition of Metaverse.However,these definitions could hardly reach universal acceptance.Rather than providing a formal definition of the Metaverse,we list four must-have characteristics of the Metaverse:socialization,immersive interaction,real world-building,and expandability.These characteristics not only carve the Metaverse into a novel and fantastic digital world,but also make it suffer from all security/privacy risks,such as personal information leakage,eavesdropping,unauthorized access,phishing,data injection,broken authentication,insecure design,and more.This paper first introduces the four characteristics,then the current progress and typical applications of the Metaverse are surveyed and categorized into four economic sectors.Based on the four characteristics and the findings of the current progress,the security and privacy issues in the Metaverse are investigated.We then identify and discuss more potential critical security and privacy issues that can be caused by combining the four characteristics.Lastly,the paper also raises some other concerns regarding society and humanity. 展开更多
