This course not only helps students to verify and reinforce theoretical knowledge, but also cultivates their capability of scientific thinking to discover and solve problems. Based on the characteristics of international students and current situation of the teaching platform in the laboratory at Yangtze University, this paper discusses a series of problems in the Medical Functional Experiment Science teaching for international students and puts forward some measures for teaching reform including optimizing experimental content, innovating experimental teaching methods and establishing effective experimental evaluation mode, in order to cultivate more international medical students with innovative ability.展开更多
Focusing on revealing the origin of high ammonia yield rate on Cu via nitrate reduction(NO3RR),we herein applied constant potential method via grand-canonical density functional theory(GC-DFT)with implicit continuum s...Focusing on revealing the origin of high ammonia yield rate on Cu via nitrate reduction(NO3RR),we herein applied constant potential method via grand-canonical density functional theory(GC-DFT)with implicit continuum solvation model to predict the reaction energetics of NO3RR on pure copper surface in alkaline media.The potential-dependent mechanism on the most prevailing Cu(111)and the minor(100)and(110)facets were established,in consideration of NO_(2)_(−),NO,NH_(3),NH_(2)OH,N_(2),and N_(2)O as the main products.The computational results show that the major Cu(111)is the ideal surface to produce ammonia with the highest onset potential at 0.06 V(until−0.37 V)and the highest optimal potential at−0.31 V for ammonia production without kinetic obstacles in activation energies at critical steps.For other minor facets,the secondary Cu(100)shows activity to ammonia from−0.03 to−0.54 V with the ideal potential at−0.50 V,which requires larger overpotential to overcome kinetic activation energy barriers.The least Cu(110)possesses the longest potential range for ammonia yield from−0.27 to−1.12 V due to the higher adsorption coverage of nitrate,but also with higher tendency to generate di-nitrogen species.Experimental evaluations on commercial Cu/C electrocatalyst validated the accuracy of our proposed mechanism.The most influential(111)surface with highest percentage in electrocatalyst determined the trend of ammonia production.In specific,the onset potential of ammonia production at 0.1 V and emergence of yield rate peak at−0.3 V in experiments precisely located in the predicted potentials on Cu(111).Four critical factors for the high ammonia yield and selectivity on Cu surface via NO3RR are summarized,including high NO3RR activity towards ammonia on the dominant Cu(111)facet,more possibilities to produce ammonia along different pathways on each facet,excellent ability for HER inhibition and suitable surface size to suppress di-nitrogen species formation at high nitrate coverage.Overall,our work provides comprehensive potential-dependent insights into the reaction details of NO3RR to ammonia,which can serve as references for the future development of NO3RR electrocatalysts,achieving higher activity and selectivity by maximizing these characteristics of copper-based materials.展开更多
Piles in a group experience additional displacements in soil due to pile-to-pile interactions apart from those resulting from the external loading.The effect of these interactions determined assuming soil as an elasti...Piles in a group experience additional displacements in soil due to pile-to-pile interactions apart from those resulting from the external loading.The effect of these interactions determined assuming soil as an elastic and/or viscoelastic material on pile head impedance functions of the pile group is studied by relating the group stiffness to the static stiffness of a single pile.However,the prevailing elastic solutions may misestimate the resulting pile group response due to the lack of consideration for either soil(material)and/or soil-pile interface nonlinearities.It is well established that soil behaves nonlinearly under moderate-to-high loading amplitudes,and besides,the soil-pile interface nonlinearity can exist even at small loading amplitudes.This study addresses the effects of these nonlinearities on the vertical impedance functions of a 3×3-pile group using numerical methods by direct analyses and superposition using pile-to-pile interaction factors.The numerical results are validated using scaled model tests under 1 g conditions.The results highlight the overestimation of pile-to-pile interactions in the pile group when assuming elastic soil conditions.The cases either by direct analyses or superposition approach involving soil and soil-pile interface nonlinearities agree well with the experimental pile group responses under close-to-elastic and nonlinear conditions.展开更多

The early trials has proved that ischamia and edema are main pathological changes of presyrinx state. OBJECTIVE: To establish SM model of rabbits for investigating the relationship between changes of morphous and function of blood-spinal cord barrier and the edema degree, histological changes in presyrinx state of SM, and to explore the mechanism of the presyrinx state of SM. DESIGN: Randomized controlled animal experiment. SETTING: Department of Neurosurgery, Fourth Hospital, Heibei Medical University. MATERIALS: Sixty Chinese healthy white rabbits, aged 3.5-4.5 months, weighing 1.5-2.0 kg, were provided by Experimental Animal Center of Hebei Medical University [certification: (SYXK(Ji)2003-0026)]. Evan's blue (EB) and dimethylformamide (DMF) were purchased from Jingmei Biotech Co., Ltd. RM2125 paraffin section cutter (Leica Company, Japan), H-7500 transmission electron microscope (Hitachi Company, Japan), PM-20 light microscope photograph system (Olympus Company, Japan). METHODS: The experiment was carried out in the Laboratory of Neurosurgery Department, Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January to June 2006. ① All the rabbits were randomly divided into two groups: model group (n =40), control group (n =20). Rabbits in two groups were divided into five subgroups once again at five time points (1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st days, n =8 and n =4 at each time point in the model group and control group, respectively). Under ketamine anesthesia, 0.6 mL Kaolin solution (250 g/L, 37 ℃) was injected into the cisterna magna of rabbits in model group, while 0.6 mL physiological saline (37 ℃) was injected into the rabbits of control group. ② On the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st days after kaolin injection, cervical cord samples were harvested after sacrifice of animal. Quantitative analysis on the function of blood-spinal cord barrier was performed by Evan's blue technique. Water content of spinal cord was measured by dry-wet weighing technique. Samples were fixed in 40 g/L paraform for haematoxylin and eosin staining. Pathological and ultramicrostructural observation was carried out under a light microscope and H-7500 electron microscope, respectively. ③ The comparison of measurement data was performed with analysis of variance. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The changes of water content, Evan's blue content and pathology in upper cervical cord of presyrinx state at different time points. RESULTS: All the 60 rabbits were involved in the result analysis. ① Ultramicrostructural observation: During the whole process of occurrence and development of presyrinx state of spinal cord, no obvious morphological changes of blood-spinal cord barrier were found. Microvascular endothelial cells were in integrity in morphology, basal membrane was continuous and smooth, and the structure of tight junction was not destructed remarkably. ②Water content of spinal cord: Compared with control group, the water content of spinal cord was increased on the 1st day [(68.35±0.7)% vs.(66.51±0.32)%, F =7.387, P =0.026] after kaolin injection, more prominent on the 3rd day [(72.70±0.88)%, F =123.48, P =0.000], reached its peak on the 7th-14th day [(72.92±0.86)%, F =135.94, P =0.000; (72.18±0.55)%, F =28.18, P =0.001], and was declined slowly after 21 days[(70.03±0.77)%,F =11.51, P =0.009], but it was still higher than that of control group [(65.98±0.56)%, F = 11.51, P =0.009].③ Evan's blue content in spinal cord tissue: It started to rise on the 3rd day after operation [(2.79±0.42) mg/L, F =61.35, P =0.000], reached its peak on the 7th day [(3.53±0.45) mg/L, F =528.35, P =0.000], and kept this high level till the 14th day [(3.45± 0.35) mg/L, F =326.57, P =0.000]. It decreased on the 21st day [(3.36±0.27) mg/L], but was still higher than normal level[(1.69±0.16)mg/L,F = 58.63,P =0.000]. ④ Neurologic function score: The neurologic function score of rabbits in the model group was close to that in the control group preoperatively and on the postoperative 1st and 3rd days (F =2.667, P =0.141);Abnormal nerve function appeared on the postoperative 7th day (F =32.667, P =0.00), and the neurologic function scores were gradually decreased with the elongation of time. The neurologic function scores in the model group were significantly lower than those in the control group on the postoperative 14th and 21st days (F =42.667, 34.571,P =0.00). CONCLUSION: Under the presyrinx state of spinal cord of experimental rabbits, the destruction of blood-spinal cord barrier of spinal cord and spinal edema co-exist with the same changing tendency. Although morphological integrity of blood-spinal cord barrier is kept, the function of blood-spinal cord barrier was destroyed in the early stage and permeability is increased. This functional disorder plays an important role in the occurrence and development of presyrinx state of SM.展开更多

DNA microarrays can be used to measure levels of gene expression for tens of thousands of gene simultane-ously and take advantage of all available sequence information for experimental design and data interpretation in pursuit of biological understanding. Recent progress in experimental genomics allows DNA microarrays not simply to provide a cata-logue of all the genes and information about their function, but to understand how the components work together to comprise functioning cells and organisms. This brief review gives a survey of DNA microarrays technology and its applications in ge-nome and gene function analysis, gene expression studies, biological signal and defense system, cell cycle regulation, mechanism of transcriptional regulation, proteomics, and the functionality of food component.展开更多
Despite a multitude of theoretical discussions on China's mixed ownership reform, very few studies have addressed realistic questions concerning the implementation of the reform. The Resolutions of the Third Plenu...Despite a multitude of theoretical discussions on China's mixed ownership reform, very few studies have addressed realistic questions concerning the implementation of the reform. The Resolutions of the Third Plenum of the 18 th CPC Central Committee and other reform strategies have outlined the reform of sectors with natural monopoly, including urban public utility sectors. The question is how mixed ownership reform should be carried out in sectors of natural monopoly, or which public utilities sectors should enjoy priority of mixed ownership reform. To answer this question, this paper employs data of large public utility enterprises in China from 1998 to 2008, and estimates the natural monopoly attribute at the industry level and corporate total factor productivity(TFP) using cost function analysis method excluding the impact of product price factor. Based on the difference-indifferences-in-differences(DDD) method of natural experiment, an empirical test is carried out for the relationship among natural monopoly, mixed ownership reform and corporate productivity. Our results suggest that:(1) Statistically, mixed ownership reform cannot significantly increase corporate TFP in sectors with natural monopoly;(2) mixed ownership reform should not be carried out indiscriminately on a nationwide basis and for all public utilities sectors. Such an attempt of reform without distinguishing natural monopoly and the level of competitiveness is fraught with policy uncertainties;(3) relative to sectors with natural monopoly, corporate productivity in competitive sectors after mixed ownership reform will improve more significantly and enjoy greater "policy dividends" of institutional reform. Therefore, mixed ownership reform should be carried out first in competitive sectors.展开更多
Functional diarrhea(FDr)accounts for a relatively high proportion of digestive diseases.It is an infection that is not accompanied by abdominal pain and shows negative results in laboratory tests for bacteria and viru...Functional diarrhea(FDr)accounts for a relatively high proportion of digestive diseases.It is an infection that is not accompanied by abdominal pain and shows negative results in laboratory tests for bacteria and viruses.The main symptoms are persistent or recurrent discharge of watery and soft stools.The course of the disease is prolonged and recurring,and the treatment cost is higher and greatly affects the patient’s daily life.The incidence rate has a gradual increase in the trend.Its pathogenesis is complex where Western medicine is mostly used in symptomatic drug treatment.The treatment can be fast-acting and effective in relieving diarrhea.However,the long-term use of Western medicine poses a high risk in terms of side effects and a high chance of recurring upon stopping medication.At the same time,some diarrhea patients show the existence of drug-resistant strains of bacteria,and the overall efficacy of the drug is limited.Chinese medicine is mild and able to provide excellent treatment of diarrhea.With its lower price and cost,most families can afford it.Fengliang Tian,director of traditional Chinese medicine,implemented the“needle and medicine”method,which combines medicine and acupuncture,involving the usage of Jianpi Yishen Sechang Decoction and acupuncture in the treatment of functional diarrhea.The method has a low price,fewer side effects,is easy to accept,and can significantly reduce the recurrence rate with high efficacy.The study would like to share the clinical thinking and cases as follows to provide ideas and methods for the treatment of functional diarrhea by traditional Chinese medicine.展开更多

文摘Functional diarrhea(FDr)accounts for a relatively high proportion of digestive diseases.It is an infection that is not accompanied by abdominal pain and shows negative results in laboratory tests for bacteria and viruses.The main symptoms are persistent or recurrent discharge of watery and soft stools.The course of the disease is prolonged and recurring,and the treatment cost is higher and greatly affects the patient’s daily life.The incidence rate has a gradual increase in the trend.Its pathogenesis is complex where Western medicine is mostly used in symptomatic drug treatment.The treatment can be fast-acting and effective in relieving diarrhea.However,the long-term use of Western medicine poses a high risk in terms of side effects and a high chance of recurring upon stopping medication.At the same time,some diarrhea patients show the existence of drug-resistant strains of bacteria,and the overall efficacy of the drug is limited.Chinese medicine is mild and able to provide excellent treatment of diarrhea.With its lower price and cost,most families can afford it.Fengliang Tian,director of traditional Chinese medicine,implemented the“needle and medicine”method,which combines medicine and acupuncture,involving the usage of Jianpi Yishen Sechang Decoction and acupuncture in the treatment of functional diarrhea.The method has a low price,fewer side effects,is easy to accept,and can significantly reduce the recurrence rate with high efficacy.The study would like to share the clinical thinking and cases as follows to provide ideas and methods for the treatment of functional diarrhea by traditional Chinese medicine.
