The high incidence of hand,foot,and mouth disease(HFMD)in children,coupled with improper management,can lead to complications,causing significant distress to both patients and their parents.This article reports on the...The high incidence of hand,foot,and mouth disease(HFMD)in children,coupled with improper management,can lead to complications,causing significant distress to both patients and their parents.This article reports on the successful treatment of a case of HFMD with dampness-heat accumulation in the spleen type using a therapeutic approach of applying herbal patches to acupoints to disperse dampness,promote heat dissipation,and unblock the fu organs.The herbs selected primarily include honeysuckle,Forsythia,and mint to relieve the exterior and promote heat dissipation;Agastache and magnolia bark to transform and dry dampness;Scutellaria,blackberry lily,and licorice to clear heat,detoxify,and benefit the throat;and magnolia bark and bitter orange to unblock the fu organs and purge heat.The flexible combination of these herbs with acupoints such as Shenque,Zhongwan,Tiantu,and Feishu fully leverages the synergistic effects of both the herbs and acupoints,resulting in a significant therapeutic effect.This approach provides valuable insights and methodologies for the prevention and treatment of HFMD in children.展开更多
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill, prepared with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), on the development of inflammation in Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary d...OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill, prepared with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), on the development of inflammation in Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) and smoke, and to identity the possible underlying mechanism.METHODS: Sixty male rats were divided into 6 groups(healthy control group, untreated group,Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill low, middle and high dose, and ambroxol hydrochloride tablet group).COPD was established in SD rats by sootiness and tracheal instillation with LPS. The rats were treated with Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill at the indicated doses for 28 d, the inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF), the concentration of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin(IL)-8 and IL-6 in blood and the inflammation in lung were evaluated.RESULTS: The number of inflammatory cells in the BALF and TNF-ficantly redα, IL-8 and IL-6 level in plasma were signiuced in rats with COPD when treated with Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill or ambroxol hydrochloride tablet, compared with those without any treatment. The Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill treated rats with COPD had a attenuated inflammation in lung tissue, compared with the untreated group.CONCLUSION: Daiqin phlegm-expelling pill can significantly restrain the airway inflammation in rats with LPS-smoke induced COPD.展开更多
A 30-year-old female patient with Bartholin’s abscess was treated by acupuncture.Before visit,she had taken wuwei xiaodu yin for 4 consecutive days,but the symptoms were not alleviated markedly and pain was worsening...A 30-year-old female patient with Bartholin’s abscess was treated by acupuncture.Before visit,she had taken wuwei xiaodu yin for 4 consecutive days,but the symptoms were not alleviated markedly and pain was worsening.According to the conditions of tongue and pulse,and physical signs,the case was differ-entiated as pathogenic heat invading blood phase;and the injury of qi and yin by the herbal decoction the patient took before.In treatment with acupuncture,the treatment principle focused on benefiting qi,nourishing yin,expelling pus from the interior and draining toxin,and promoting the circulations of meridians to stop pain.He-sea points were selected to clear heat and resolve damp,and replenish the liver and kidney;and the acupoints of bladder meridian were combined under the guidance of“taiyang dominating the openings,”aiming at elevating qi and expelling toxin from the interior.Acupuncture was given once daily.After treated for 4 days,abscess was ruptured,pain disappeared,and no recurrence was presented and no sequelae happened during over 2 years of follow-up.This case shows that acupuncture is effective on Bartholin’s abscess.By reviewing this case,it is put forward that there may by the signs before the onset of Bartholin’s abscess,and the treatment should focus on opening a way for eliminating pathogens.Moreover,the clinical trial is required to verify acupuncture effect on this disease.展开更多
