Different theories have been proposed to explain the elevated rates of evolution (Swanson and Vacquier, 2002), including sperm competition, where sperm compete to fertilize eggs leading to the proteins in the sper- matozoa adaptively evolving to increase their ability to fertilize eggs; sexual conflict, where the egg experiences a loss of fitness when sperm are too abundant; sexual selection, where eggs bind sperm carrying adaptive alleles (Palumbi, 1999); and cryptic female choice (reviewed in Swanson and Vacquier, 2002).展开更多

The analytic particular solutions contain one-soliton, two-soliton, and three-soliton type solutions. With the assistance of Maple, we demonstrated the efficiency and advantages of the procedure that generalizes Hirota's perturbation scheme. The obtained solutions can be used as a benchmark for numerical solutions and describe the physical phenomena behind the model.展开更多

The sequences were analyzed by DNAStar 5.0, and the evolutionary speed was studied with reference to the epidemiological data. It was found that NP genes of 45 strains during 1997-2006 were homologically classified into three groups: strains in 1997-1998, strains in 2004-2005 and strains from 2003 to 2006. There were 35 substitutions in NPs in all strains accounting for a ratio of 7.03% (35/498). An additional glycoprotein domain (NGT430-432) was found in NP genes in the strains of 2003-2006, the mutation of N370S in GD-01-06 resulted in occurrence of one more glycoprotein domain (NES368-370). In the synonymous variation, Ks values in NP were 2.03 × 10^-5-2.55 × 10^-5 Nt/d and K. values in NP were 1.58 × 10^-6-3.10 × 10^-6 Nt/d. There didn't exist obviously selective pressure. An additional glycoprotein domain in every strain of 2003-2006 and one more in strain GD-01-06 might change the antigenicity of human avian H5 N1 influenza virus. The variation on human avian H5 N1 influenza strains occurred frequently in the natural world, which would result in high probability of human-human transmission along with the natural evolution of the virus.展开更多

Nevertheless, it is still challenging to exploit low-cost and stable Zscheme photocatalysts with highly-efficient H2 evolution from solar water-splitting so far. Herein, we report a novel all-solidstate Z-scheme photocatalyst Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x consisting of Cd1-xZnxS nanorods coated with oxygen-deficient WO3-x amorphous layers. The Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x exhibits an outstanding H2 evolution reaction(HER) activity as compared with Pt-loaded Cd1-xZnxS and most WO3- and Cd S-based photocatalysts, due to the generation of stronger reducing electrons through the appropriate Zn-doping in Cd1-xZnxS and the enhanced charge transfer by introducing oxygen vacancies(W^5+/OVs) into the ultrathin WO3-x amorphous coatings. The optimal HER rate of Cd1-xZnxS@WO3- xis determined to be 21.68 mmol h^-1 g^-1, which is further raised up to 28.25 mmol h^-1 g^-1(about 12 times more than that of Pt/Cd1-xZnxS) when Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x is hybridized by Co Ox and Ni Oxdual cocatalysts(Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x/CoOx/NiOx)through in-situ photo-deposition. Moreover, the corresponding apparent quantum yield(AQY) at 420 nm is significantly increased from 34.6% for Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x to 60.8% for Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x/CoOx/NiOx. In addition, both Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x and Cd1-xZnxS@WO3-x/CoOx/NiOx demonstrate good stability towards HER. The results displayed in this work will inspire the rational design and synthesis of high-performance nanostructures for photocatalytic applications.展开更多
