Purpose: To enhance the existing Bachelor of Science (BSc) in nursing curriculum through integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) and teaching of critical thinking skills. Materials and Methods: A needs analysis was conducted using a five-phased approach to review the BSc in nursing Curriculum. Kern’s six-step model was adapted and introduced through a series of workshop exercises that highlighted the application of each step: 1) Desk review of the BSc curriculum offered globally;2) Administration of the needs assessment questionnaire to key informants;3) Strengths, weakness, opportunities and threat analysis;4) Consultative meeting with major stakeholders;5) Curriculum review. Results: The five-phased approach established some gaps in existing curricula, and identified critical core competences and best practices in integrating EPB and critical thinking in the BSc undergraduate curriculum and some “A” level content that was not in tandem with the practice of nurses. New courses were developed to support students in academic writing and enhance professionalism and duration of training was reduced from 5 to 4 years. Conclusion: The process demonstrated that BSc curriculum review, in fact, should be thoroughly scrutinized to encourage positive changes to the curriculum, provide opportunities for team building and the development of leadership skills and a whole-of course perspective on the curriculum.展开更多

文摘[Objectives]To explore the effectiveness of integrating ideological and political education based on the Nightingale spirit into the clinical practice curriculum for nursing interns.[Methods]A total of 90 questionnaires were distributed and analyzed among nursing interns and patients to evaluate multiple dimensions, including the interns satisfaction with the internship, mastery of clinical knowledge, ideological and political literacy, professional ethics, and social responsibility.[Results]The overall internship satisfaction of nursing interns reached 98.9%,indicating that the course design and teaching model were widely recognized by students.Secondly, the interns demonstrated excellent mastery of clinical knowledge, with 94.0%of students stating they had fully grasped the clinical knowledge taught during the internship,an increase of 18.6%compared to the previous cohort. In terms of ideological and political literacy,98%of students had a better understanding and application of the Nightingale spirit,an increase of 16.2%compared to the previous cohort.Additionally, the sense of professional identity was significantly enhanced, with 95.8%of students showing a stronger sense of identity and responsibility towards the nursing profession,an increase of 14.0%compared to the previous cohort.Patients also gave high evaluations of the interns performance, with 98.8%expressing satisfaction with the students attitude and performance in nursing care.[Conclusions]The curriculum model based on the integration of Nightingale spirit has effectively improved the professional quality, ideological and political quality and professional identity of nursing interns, and has been highly recognized by patients. It not only provides strong support for the practice of combining ideological and political work with professional courses in nursing education, but also provides a reference for the optimization of clinical practice teaching mode of nursing interns in the future.
文摘This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between nursing informatics(NI)competency and information literacy skills for evidencebased practice(EBP)among intensive care nurses. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 184 nurses working in intensive care units(ICUs).The study data were collected through demographic information,Nursing Informatics Competency Assessment Tool(NICAT),and information literacy skills for EBP questionnaires. The intensive care nurses received competent and low-moderate levels for the total scores of NI competency and information literacy skills, respectively. They received a moderate score for the use of different information resources but a low score for information searching skills, different search features, and knowledge about search operators, and only 31.5%of the nurses selected the most appropriate statement.NI competency and related subscales had a significant direct bidirectional correlation with information literacy skills for EBP and its subscales(P<0.05).Nurses require a high level of NI competency and information literacy for EBP to obtain up-to-date information and provide better care and decision-making.Health planners and policymakers should develop interventions to enhance NI competency and information literacy skills among nurses and motivate them to use EBP in clinical settings.
文摘Objectives:To examine Chinese nurses'practice of reading and understanding scientific literature and elucidate the motivating and deterring factors. Methods:This is a cross-sectional study conducted between March and June 2015.A random sample of 853 full-time registered nurses from three tertiary and two secondary hospitals in China filled out a set of self-administered questionnaires, including literature habit questionnaire(41 items),the situational motivation scale and the socio-demographic and professional characteristics questionnaire(15 items). Results:Significant majority(89.2%)of the respondents reported perception of barriers to keeping up to date with literature. The language barrier was the most prominent, followed by poor presentation and readability of articles.Using simpler language when writing articles, improving ones'foreign language proficiency and getting education or training on nursing research were raised as the top facilitators.Additionally, reading and understanding literature was significantly associated with the nurses'educational background, motivation, genders and work settings. Conclusions:The survey of the current status of literature education among Chinese nurses suggests that providing protected time, training for critical thinking, and incentive mechanisms will help improve nurses'engagement in literature and create a culture of academic inquiry.
文摘Background: Making changes in the existing curriculum aims, objectives, course contents learning outcomes and assessment strategies have become a fact of life for nurse educators. Conclusion: The process demonstrated that BSc curriculum review, in fact, should be thoroughly scrutinized to encourage positive changes to the curriculum, provide opportunities for team building and the development of leadership skills and a whole-of course perspective on the curriculum.
文摘Objective:To assess knowledge and practice among nurses toward neonatal resuscitation in hospitals in Hebron. Methods:A cross-sectional study design was conducted among 151 nurses from Hebron.Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire.Multiple logistic regression was conducted to test the associated factors with the dependent variables. Results:Only 9.3%of participants had a standardized level of knowledge, while 68.9%reported adequate skills for neonatal resuscitation.Factors associated with a standardized level of knowledge were age(p=0.001)and supportive supervision(p=0.007).Factors associated with the standardized practice level were the presence of hospital guidelines(p=0.028),previous training of nurses(p=0.011),and the presence of supportive supervision(p<0.001).Conclusions:The majority of emergency nurses in Hebron hospitals demonstrated a substandard level of knowledge of neonatal resuscitation. However, most of those nurses surprisingly reported a standardized practice level. The presence of hospital guidelines, training programs,or direct supervision for nurses are factors that can be considered to improve both knowledge and practice toward neonatal resuscitation among emergency nurses in Hebron.
文摘Objective:This article employs a scoping review methodology, integrates knowledge and information about current pediatric nurses'practices and perceptions regarding family-centered care in pediatric settings. Methods:Published articles were retrieved from databases including EBSCO host,PubMed,Springer,Science Direct,Ovid, and CINAHL between 2013 and 2023.Results:The finding shows a better understanding of pediatric nurses'perceptions of family-centered care in association with their clinical settings. However, the evidence indicates that integrating family-centered care components into health care services is difficult and confusing to nurses and is often not implemented in a clinical setting. As evidenced by this review, studies have consistently reported similar results;family-centered care was a good perception and understood by pediatric nurses as a concept but inconsistently used in a daily practice setting. Conclusions:This scoping review is the first phase in promoting a strategic plan to provide educational interventions for pediatric nurses to implement family-centered care in their daily practice settings. It's necessary to recognize pediatric nurses'perceptions and practices concerning family-centered care to provide optimal healthcare services in pediatric settings.
