The practice of architecture,the academic pursuit of architecture,and the sustainability issues in architecture converge in this project to create a unique opportunity for a didactic building.Unique to this project is...The practice of architecture,the academic pursuit of architecture,and the sustainability issues in architecture converge in this project to create a unique opportunity for a didactic building.Unique to this project is the notion that the laboratory itself is the object of direct experimentation-in other words,the design and experimentation take place in the space and the space itself is a laboratory for sustainable practices.The King Pavilion at Iowa State University for the College of Design specifically and purposefully provides this opportunity.The laboratory,a design studio housing freshman introductory design for all disciplines in the college and sophomore level design studios for the programs of architecture,landscape architecture,and interior design,serves the dual role of providing an environment that encourages creativity while acting as a learning lab for sustainable design.展开更多
Temporary housing is one of the most important elements in disaster recovery and reconstruction activities in emergency situations.This study predicts that post-disaster housing and social life needs can be improved t...Temporary housing is one of the most important elements in disaster recovery and reconstruction activities in emergency situations.This study predicts that post-disaster housing and social life needs can be improved through user satisfaction analyses and underlines that user experiences can guide the achievement of better design solutions in temporary housing.In this context,the case study is based on an evaluation of the changes and/or transformations that took place as a result of the Lagoon Hobby Houses campus,built in the Kahramanmaras Expo area,being opened to the use of disaster victims as temporary housing after the 2023 Kahramanmaras earthquake.The findings suggest that improvements can be made in evidenceand experience-based design and post-disaster temporary housing design criteria by creating reserve areas for residences,designing common areas that encourage socialization and interaction,and providing access to green areas to overcome post-earthquake traumas more easily.展开更多
