Principal among these is clearer guidelines on speaking out against wrongdoing, as well as the development of codes of ethics that have been proven to work. The adoption of the critical thinking and the analytical methodology of other disciplines is also suggested. Several benefits will result. The most noticeable will be a strengthening of ethical practices and behavior in the institutions and organizations with which we live and work. A second benefit will be the education and employment of a body of people--graduates in moral philosophy--with the skills and knowledge to bring about, and further strengthen, this enhanced ethical environment. A third benefit will be the matching of the claims of philosophical thought with actual reality.展开更多

third-party manuscript preparation/editing services(which can include paper mills),and also to assess levels of awareness regarding different types of publishing ethics misconduct,we surveyed members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)Journal Ranking WeChat channel.Design/methodology/approach:The online survey collected voluntary anonymous responses from members of the CAS Journal Ranking WeChat channel, one of largest channels of Chinese researchers at all career stages within STM and social sciences. The respondents of the survey fell into one of the following categories:Undergraduate student,Master’s student,PhD candidate,Researcher,Research manager,Researcher with research management responsibilities, and Librarian. The survey included 14 main questions on the topics of access to research integrity and publishing ethics training, experience levels in publishing in scholarly journals(including using third-party services),authorship experiences and behaviours, levels of concern about different types of research integrity issues, and perceptions on who the respondents think are primarily responsible for upholding research integrity standards and training in publishing ethics. After applying inclusion criteria,1,777 responses were included in the analysis.Findings:Amongst the 1,777 respondents included in the study results, only 55.4%had any access to training in research integrity and publishing ethics, and an even smaller proportion to formal training.Even amongst cohorts with access to training(where respondents in the Researcher cohort have the highest access),answers to the questions on authorship and third-party services reveal many areas of confusion regarding authorship criteria and responsibilities in publishing ethics. In particular, the responses also show limited knowledge in recognising unethical service offerings by third-party services(e.g.adding authors, citations and data/images).The survey responses also show that even though respondents in the undergraduate cohort are already actively publishing articles as well as using third-party manuscript preparation/editing services, they have limited access to training and have high levels of uncertainty about authorship responsibilities.Out of all key stakeholders, respondents perceive research institutions to be mainly responsible for upholding research integrity standards as well as providing access to training.Research limitations:As with all voluntary online surveys, the study design includes inherent limitations due to the self-reported nature of the responses. The respondents who participate are likely to have a particular interest and a higher level of awareness about the survey topic, and so the self-selecting nature of the participants can introduce personal biases, which can affect the overall results. This survey was sent to members of a WeChat channel focused on journal rankings, which also discusses research integrity issues,so the respondents may not provide a general representation of their career stage/subject discipline cohorts. The sample sizes were not comparable across all cohorts,so direct comparisons could not always be made.Instead, where appropriate, separate comparisons were made between Undergraduate students,Master’s students,PhD candidates and Researchers(29.26%-18.68%of respondents),or between Research managers,Researcher with research management responsibilities and Librarians(4.28%-2.53%of respondents).Practical implications:It is important to ensure that research integrity and publishing ethics training and education needs are being met for researchers at all levels, including undergraduates.Findings from the survey highlight the importance of establishing training and education programmes tailored towards addressing specific areas of common confusion or limited awareness, especially to reduce the risk of unintentional misconduct. The findings from this survey can be used to inform training and education partnerships and collaborations across key stakeholders, including research institutions and publishers,so that we can collectively improve the overall integrity of scholarly publishing.A table of recommendations and a hypothetical case have been included to illustrate how this can be achieved.Originality/value:To our knowledge, this is the first survey on this topic developed via a collaboration between the research integrity team at an international scholarly publisher and scientometrics researchers based in China.Sharing our perspectives and experience to develop the survey questions has helped to highlight the common areas of confusion regarding authorship responsibilities and ethical third-party service offerings within researchers in China, even amongst those who do have access to training.展开更多

文摘The establishment of a sound science and technology ethics governance system is an inevitable requirement for national modernization.Faced with the development of human gene technology and the chaos in research activities, the ethical standards and legal positioning of human gene research activities urgently need to be clarified. The human rights ethics view has value inclusiveness and value fundamentality, and includes three levels of connotations:content dimension, relationship dimension, and obligation dimension. It should serve as the ethical standard for human gene research activities.Based on the provisions of China’s Constitution, the human rights ethics view on human gene research,as a constitutional ethics view, can elucidate different levels of rights content, such as human dignity, life and health, and research freedom. It also addresses the weighing of basic rights conflicts and the dual obligation subjects of public and private nature.Relying on the constitutional value embedding of the research ethics view to form ethical consensus, improving ethical review through framework legislation for human rights interests, and implementing ethical responsibility through the human rights-oriented interpretation of ethical legal norms are the three pathways to realizing the human rights ethics view on human gene research.
文摘My Life as a Foreign Country is an Iraq War narrative by American veteran Brian Turner, recounting the protagonist Turner’s experiences in the Iraq War alongside the wartime experiences of his forefathers. As a descendant of a military family, the protagonist Turner makes ethical choices based on his ethical identity, elucidating the ethical concepts and dilemmas faced by Iraq War soldiers. This paper interprets the narrative from the perspective of literary ethics, analyzing the ethical choices made by the protagonist Turner to explain the underlying reasons and motivations, thereby revealing the ethical perplexities of American soldiers in modern warfare.
文摘Objectives:This study aimed to investigate the dual mediating roles of psychological safety and reporting attitudes in the association between ethics-centered leadership and internal whistleblowing among nurses. Methods:A multicenter,cross-sectional study design was employed, involving a convenience sample of 273 nurses among five university hospitals from August to October 2024.Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire,Ethical Leadership Scale,Psychological Safety Scale,Positive Attitudes Toward Whistleblowing Scale, and Internal Whistleblowing Scale.Pearson correlation and structural equation model were conducted to test the hypothesized dual mediation model. Results:The average score of nurses for ethical leadership was 4.14±0.57,psychological safety was 3.80±0.64,reporting attitudes was 4.12±0.67,internal whistleblowing was 3.93±0.52.Ethical leadership had a significant effect on psychological safety(β=0.38,P<0.001),reporting attitudes(β=0.44,P<0.001),and internal whistleblowing(β=0.21,P=0.009).Furthermore,psychological safety(β=0.26,P<0.001)and reporting attitudes(β=0.27,P<0.001)significantly influenced internal whistleblowing among the nurses. The indirect effect of ethics-centered leadership on internal whistleblowing intermediated by psychological safety was significant(β=0.10,P<0.001).Similarly,reporting attitudes demonstrated a significant mediating effect(β=0.12,P=0.003).Conclusions:Ethical leadership encourages internal whistleblowing among nurses by fostering psychological safety and positive reporting attitudes. Therefore, healthcare managers should prioritize ethical leadership development, enhance psychological safety, and foster constructive reporting attitudes that enable nurses to report ethical violations confidently, without apprehension.
文摘From the ecocritical perspective, with the reference to ecological ethics, this paper explores the ethical meanings and views of nature embodied in“werewolf”in Angela Carter’s short story“The Company of Wolves”.This paper analyzes the construction of the werewolf’s ethical identity, the reconstruction of human-animal ethics and finally the ecological integration of nature and culture.Through the analysis of the werewolf and its relationship with humans and nature, this study reveals the complex intertwining of animal and human emotions and ethical identities. This paper aims to reveal how Carter, through fairy tale rewriting and literary experimentation, rethinks the ethical positions of humans, animals, and nature, which presents an ecological ethical imagination that transcends anthropocentrism.
文摘Reproductive medicine has been transformed by assisted reproductive technologies(ART),providing multiple options for infertile couples to conceive biological offspring. The medical and legal frameworks, governing the practice of embryologists in ART,focus on the ethical and safe handling of gametes and embryos.Embryologists play a crucial role in the success of ART procedures, requiring technical expertise and a thorough understanding of legal and ethical considerations. The importance of quality control, safety protocols, and sterility in ART laboratories is essential to ensure optimal embryo development and patient well-being.The legal responsibilities of an embryologist under the Assisted Reproductive Technology(Regulation)Act,2021 in India are required. This review emphasizes the importance of record-keeping,patient confidentiality, informed consent, and adherence to legal and ethical standards to minimize the risk of malpractice claims.Overall, this narrative review provides a detailed overview of the medical, legal, and ethical frameworks governing embryologists'practice in ART,underscoring the significance of responsible and ethical conduct in this rapidly advancing field.
文摘I argue in this paper that moral philosophers need to incorporate into their teaching and writing a number of empirical findings on ethical practices. A third benefit will be the matching of the claims of philosophical thought with actual reality.

文摘Purpose:To gain insights into the levels of training and support in research integrity and publishing ethics, levels of experience in publishing in scholarly journals and use of third-party manuscript preparation/editing services(which can include paper mills),and also to assess levels of awareness regarding different types of publishing ethics misconduct,we surveyed members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)Journal Ranking WeChat channel.Design/methodology/approach:The online survey collected voluntary anonymous responses from members of the CAS Journal Ranking WeChat channel, one of largest channels of Chinese researchers at all career stages within STM and social sciences. The findings from this survey can be used to inform training and education partnerships and collaborations across key stakeholders, including research institutions and publishers,so that we can collectively improve the overall integrity of scholarly publishing.A table of recommendations and a hypothetical case have been included to illustrate how this can be achieved.Originality/value:To our knowledge, this is the first survey on this topic developed via a collaboration between the research integrity team at an international scholarly publisher and scientometrics researchers based in China.Sharing our perspectives and experience to develop the survey questions has helped to highlight the common areas of confusion regarding authorship responsibilities and ethical third-party service offerings within researchers in China, even amongst those who do have access to training.

文摘Managing the university in the context of ethics is one of many elements in the management of this specific organization. The task of university is functioning based on universal values, mission, vision, ethical codes, and responsibility and worthy behavior towards internal and external environment. In the era of globalization and constant changes, only a modernly managed higher education institution, acting according to principles of ethics, is able to meet requirements of surroundings. Behaviors of academic community should promote ethical actions in higher education institutions. It should be noted that the reputation, prestige in higher education, should also be based on the proceedings consistent with ethics.
