Kinematic calibration is a reliable way to improve the accuracy of parallel manipulators, while the error model dramatically afects the accuracy, reliability, and stability of identifcation results. In this paper, a comparison study on kinematic calibration for a 3-DOF parallel manipulator with three error models is presented to investigate the relative merits of diferent error modeling methods. The study takes into consideration the inverse-kinematic error model, which ignores all passive joint errors, the geometric-constraint error model, which is derived by special geometric constraints of the studied RPR-equivalent parallel manipulator, and the complete-minimal error model, which meets the complete, minimal, and continuous criteria. This comparison focuses on aspects such as modeling complexity, identifcation accuracy, the impact of noise uncertainty, and parameter identifability. To facilitate a more intuitive comparison, simulations are conducted to draw conclusions in certain aspects, including accuracy, the infuence of the S joint, identifcation with noises, and sensitivity indices. The simulations indicate that the complete-minimal error model exhibits the lowest residual values, and all error models demonstrate stability considering noises. Hereafter, an experiment is conducted on a prototype using a laser tracker, providing further insights into the diferences among the three error models. The results show that the residual errors of this machine tool are signifcantly improved according to the identifed parameters, and the complete-minimal error model can approach the measurements by nearly 90% compared to the inverse-kinematic error model. The fndings pertaining to the model process, complexity, and limitations are also instructive for other parallel manipulators. 展开更多

This paper addresses a modified auxiliary model stochastic gradient recursive parameter identification algorithm(M-AM-SGRPIA)for a class of single input single output(SISO)linear output error models with multi-threshold quantized observations. It proves the convergence of the designed algorithm.A pattern-moving-based system dynamics description method with hybrid metrics is proposed for a kind of practical single input multiple output(SIMO)or SISO nonlinear systems, and a SISO linear output error model with multi-threshold quantized observations is adopted to approximate the unknown system. The system input design is accomplished using the measurement technology of random repeatability test, and the probabilistic characteristic of the explicit metric value is employed to estimate the implicit metric value of the pattern class variable.A modified auxiliary model stochastic gradient recursive algorithm(M-AM-SGRA)is designed to identify the model parameters, and the contraction mapping principle proves its convergence. Two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the achieved identification algorithm. 展开更多

Accuracy allocation is crucial in the accuracy design of machining tools.Current accuracy allocation methods primarily focus on positional deviation, with little consideration for tool direction deviation. To address this issue,we propose a geometric error cost sensitivity-based accuracy allocation method for five-axis machine tools.A geometric error model consisting of 4l error components is constructed based on homogeneous transformation matrices.Volumetric points with positional and tool direction deviations are randomly sampled to evaluate the accuracy of the machine tool. The sensitivity of each error component at these sampling points is analyzed using the Sobol method. To balance the needs of geometric precision and manufacturing cost,a geometric error cost sensitivity function is developed to estimate the required cost.By allocating error components affecting tool direction deviation first and the remaining components second, this allocation scheme ensures that both deviations meet the requirements. We also perform numerical simulation of a BC-type(B-axis and C-axis type)five-axis machine tool to validate the method. The results show that the new allocation scheme reduces the total geometric error cost by 27.8%compared to a uniform allocation scheme, and yields the same positional and tool direction machining accuracies. 展开更多

By selecting any one limb of 3-RSR parallel robot as a research object, the paper establishes a position and orienta- tion relationship matrix between the moving platform and the base by means of Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) transformation matrix. The error mapping model is derived from original error to the error of the platform by using matrix differential method. This model contains all geometric original errors of the robot. The nonlinear implicit function relation between po- sition and orientation error of the platform and the original geometric errors is simplified as a linear explicit function rela- tion. Two traditional methods for compensating function model errors, the method of adding systematic parameters and the least-squares collection method, are introduced. A proposed method based on a BP neural network (called the H-BP algorithm) for compensating function model errors is put forward. The function model is assumed as y =f(x1, x2,… ,xn), and the special structure of the H-BP algorithm is determined as ( n + 1) ×p × 1, where (n + 1) is the element number of the input layer, and the elements are xl, x2,…, xn and y' ( y' is the value calculated by the function model); p is the element number of the hidden layer, and it is usually determined after many tests; 1 is the dement number of the output layer, and the element is △y = y0-y'(y0 is the known value of the sample). The calculation steps of the H-BP algorithm are introduced in detail. And then, the results of three methods for compensating function model errors from one engineering project are compared with each other. After being compensated, the accuracy of the traditional methods is about ± 19 mm, and the accuracy of the H-BP algorithm is ± 4. 3 mm. It shows that the proposed method based on a neural network is more effective than traditional methods for compensating function model errors. 展开更多

In the docking process of aeroengine rotor parts, docking accuracy that indicates the gaps between the end faces is strictly required.A key issue is improving docking accuracy using automated docking equipment. In this paper,a systematic study is carried out on the error modeling and compensation of a novel six-degrees-of-freedom(6-DOF)docking equipment for aeroengine rotors.First,a new model for indicating the main indexes of docking accuracy is proposed. Then, the error model of a specially designed 6-DOF docking equipment is established based on a modified Denavit Hartenberg method with five parameters.Subsequently, two error compensation methods are proposed.Based on the above models,a docking accuracy simulation algorithm is proposed using the Monte Carlo method. Finally, verification experiments are conducted. The results show that, for the maximum values and standard deviations of the gaps between the rotor end-faces in the actual and target positions and attitudes,i.e.,main indexes that represent docking accuracy, the deviation rates between the simulation and experimental results are less than20%.The modeling methods have referential significance. The decline rates of these values are 50–65%when using the two proposed compensation methods. The compensation methods significantly improve the docking accuracy. 展开更多

Firstly, the new combined error model of cumulative geoid height influenced by four error sources, including the inter-satellite range-rate of an interferometric laser (K-band) ranging system, the orbital position and velocity of a global positioning system (GPS) receiver and non-conservative force of an accelerometer, is established from the perspectives of the power spectrum principle in physics using the semi-analytical approach. Secondly, the accuracy of the global gravitational field is accurately and rapidly estimated based on the combined error model; the cumulative geoid height error is 1.985× 10^-1 m at degree 120 based on GRACE Level 1B measured observation errors of the year 2007 published by the US Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and the cumulative geoid height error is 5.825 × 10^-2 m at degree 360 using GRACE Follow-On orbital altitude 250 km and inter-satellite range 50 km. The matching relationship of accuracy indexes from GRACE Follow-On key payloads is brought forward, and the dependability of the combined error model is validated. Finally, the feasibility of high-accuracy and high-resolution global gravitational field estimation from GRACE Follow-On is demonstrated based on different satellite orbital altitudes. 展开更多

Parallel robots with SCARA(selective compliance assembly robot arm) motions are utilized widely in the field of high speed pick-and-place manipulation. Error modeling for these robots generally simplifies the parallelogram structures included by the robots as a link. As the established error model fails to reflect the error feature of the parallelogram structures, the effect of accuracy design and kinematic calibration based on the error model come to be undermined. An error modeling methodology is proposed to establish an error model of parallel robots with parallelogram structures. The error model can embody the geometric errors of all joints, including the joints of parallelogram structures. Thus it can contain more exhaustively the factors that reduce the accuracy of the robot. Based on the error model and some sensitivity indices defined in the sense of statistics, sensitivity analysis is carried out. Accordingly, some atlases are depicted to express each geometric error’s influence on the moving platform’s pose errors. From these atlases, the geometric errors that have greater impact on the accuracy of the moving platform are identified, and some sensitive areas where the pose errors of the moving platform are extremely sensitive to the geometric errors are also figured out. By taking into account the error factors which are generally neglected in all existing modeling methods, the proposed modeling method can thoroughly disclose the process of error transmission and enhance the efficacy of accuracy design and calibration. 展开更多

Joint clearances in antenna pointing mechanisms lead to uncertainty in function deviation. Current studies mainly focus on radial clearance of revolute joints, while axial clearance has rarely been taken into consideration. In fact, own?ing to errors from machining and assembly, thermal deformation and so forth, practically, axial clearance is inevitable in the joint. In this study, an error equivalent model(EEM) of revolute joints is proposed with considering both radial and axial clearances. Compared to the planar model of revolute joints only considering radial clearance, the journal motion inside the bearing is more abundant and matches the reality better in the EEM. The model is also extended for analyzing the error distribution of a spatial dual?axis("X–Y" type) antenna pointing mechanism of Spot?beam antennas which especially demand a high pointing accuracy. Three case studies are performed which illustrates the internal relation between radial clearance and axial clearance. It is found that when the axial clearance is big enough, the physical journal can freely realize both translational motion and rotational motion. While if the axial clearance is limited, the motion of the physical journal will be restricted. Analysis results indicate that the consideration of both radial and axial clearances in the revolute joint describes the journal motion inside the bearing more precise. To further validate the proposed model, a model of the EEM is designed and fabricated. Some suggestions on the design of revolute joints are also provided. 展开更多

Self-positioning of a shearer is the key technology for mining with a man-less working face. In an underground coal mine all radio navigation; satellite positioning or celestial navigation methods have their limitations. We analyzed an inertial navi-gation system intended to guide the movement a shearer and designed a self-positioning device for the shearer. Simulation tests were also performed on the system. We analyzed the errors observed in these tests to show that the main reason for the low preci-sion of the self-positioning system is accumulated error in the inertial sensor. A Kalman filtering algorithm used in combination with the shearer motion model effectively reduces the measurement errors of the self-positioning system by compensating for gyroscopic drift. Finally, we built an error compensation model to reduce accumulated errors using continuous correction to provide self-positioning of the shearer within a certain range of accuracy. 展开更多

Existing errors in the structure and kinematic parameters of multi-legged walking robots, the motion trajectory of robot will diverge from the ideal sports requirements in movement.Since the existing error compensation is usually used for control compensation of manipulator arm,the error compensation of multi-legged robots has seldom been explored. In order to reduce the kinematic error of robots,a motion error compensation method based on the feedforward for multi-legged mobile robots is proposed to improve motion precision of a mobile robot. The locus error of a robot body is measured, when robot moves along a given track.Error of driven joint variables is obtained by error calculation model in terms of the locus error of robot body.Error value is used to compensate driven joint variables and modify control model of robot, which can drive the robots following control model modified. The model of the relation between robot's locus errors and kinematic variables errors is set up to achieve the kinematic error compensation. On the basis of the inverse kinematics of a multi-legged walking robot, the relation between error of the motion trajectory and driven joint variables of robots is discussed. Moreover, the equation set is obtained, which expresses relation among error of driven joint variables, structure parameters and error of robot's locus.Take MiniQuad as an example, when the robot MiniQuad moves following beeline tread, motion error compensation is studied. The actual locus errors of the robot body are measured before and after compensation in the test.According to the test, variations of the actual coordinate value of the robot centroid in x-direction and z-direction are reduced more than one time. The kinematic errors of robot body are reduced effectively by the use of the motion error compensation method based on the feedforward. 展开更多

Aiming at the problem of low machining accu- racy and uncontrollable thermal errors of NC machine tools, spindle thermal error measurement, modeling and compensation of a two turntable five-axis machine tool are researched. Measurement experiment of heat sources and thermal errors are carried out, and GRA(grey relational analysis) method is introduced into the selection of tem- perature variables used for thermal error modeling. In order to analyze the influence of different heat sources on spindle thermal errors, an ANN (artificial neural network) model is presented, and ABC(artificial bee colony) algorithm is introduced to train the link weights of ANN, a new ABC- NN(Artificial bee colony-based neural network) modeling method is proposed and used in the prediction of spindle thermal errors. In order to test the prediction performance of ABC-NN model, an experiment system is developed, the prediction results of LSR (least squares regression), ANN and ABC-NN are compared with the measurement results of spindle thermal errors. The interaction between the heat source location, its intensity, thermal expansion coefficient, the machine system configuration and the running environment creates complex thermal behavior of a machine tool, and also makes thermal error prediction difficult. To address this issue, a novel prediction method for machine tool thermal error based on Bayesian networks (BNs) was presented. The method described causal relationships of factors inducing thermal deformation by graph theory and estimated the thermal error by Bayesian statistical techniques. Due to the effective combination of domain knowledge and sampled data, the BN method could adapt to the change of running state of machine, and obtain satisfactory prediction accuracy. Ex- periments on spindle thermal deformation were conducted to evaluate the modeling performance. Experimental results indicate that the BN method performs far better than the least squares (LS) analysis in terms of modeling estimation accuracy. 展开更多

A three degree-of-freedom (DOF) planar changeable parallel mechanism is designed by means of control of different drive parameters. This mechanism possesses the characteristics of two kinds of parallel mechanism. Based on its topologic structure, a coordinate system for position analysis is set-up and the forward kinematic solutions are analyzed. It was found that the parallel mechanism is partially decoupled. The relationship between original errors and position-stance error of moving platform is built according to the complete differential-coefficient theory. Then we present a special example with theory values and errors to evaluate the error model, and numerical error solutions are gained. The investigations concentrating on mechanism errors and actuator errors show that the mechanism errors have more influences on the position-stance of the moving platform. It is demonstrated that improving manufacturing and assembly techniques can greatly reduce the moving platform error. The small change in position-stance error in different kinematic positions proves that the error-compensation of software can improve considerably the precision of parallel mechanism. 展开更多
