The main idea behind the technology transfer from linear analysis to nonlinear analysis is to use Newton's method to linearize nonlinear problems into a series of linear problems so that the EEP formulation and the corresponding adaptive strategy can be directly used without the need for specific super-convergence formulation for nonlinear FEM. As a re- sult, a unified and general self-adaptive algorithm for nonlinear FEM analysis is formed. The proposed algorithm is found to be able to produce satisfactory finite element results with accuracy satisfying the user-preset error tolerances by maximum norm anywhere on the mesh. Taking the nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) of second-order as the model problem, this paper describes the related fundamental idea, the imple- mentation strategy, and the computational algorithm. Representative numerical exam- ples are given to show the efficiency, stability, versatility, and reliability of the proposed approach.展开更多

The mid-frequency dynamic response of the framework-plate structure with uncertainties is studied based on the hybrid FE-SEA method and the Monte Carlo(MC)simulation is performed so as to provide a benchmark comparison with the hybrid method. The energy response of the framework-plate structure matches well with the MC simulation results, which validates the effectiveness of the hybrid FE-SEA method considering both the complexity of the vibro-acoustic structure and the uncertainties in mid-frequency vibro-acousitc analysis. Based on the hybrid method, a vibroacoustic model of a construction machinery cab with random properties is established, and the excitations of the model are measured by experiments. The responses of the sound pressure level of the cab and the vibration power spectrum density of the front windscreen are calculated and compared with those of the experiment. At middle frequencies, the results have a good consistency with the tests and the prediction error is less than 3. 5dB.展开更多

This study presents the layout optimization of stiffeners. The minimum weight of stiffeners is taken as the objective function with the global stiffness constraint. In the layout optimization, the stiffeners should be placed at the locations with high strain energy/or stress. Conversely, elements of stiffeners with a small strain energy/or stress are considered to be used inefficiently and can be removed. Thus, to identify the element efficiency so that most inefficiently used elements of stiffeners can be removed, the element sensitivity of the strain energy of stiffeners is introduced, and a search criterion for locations of stiffeners is presented. The layout optimization approach is given for determining which elements of the stiffeners need to be kept or removed. The numerical results show that the present approach is effective for dealing with layout optimization of stiffeners for plate-shell structures.展开更多

In general, distributed particle size assemblies with standard deviations ranging from 0% to 80% of the particle mean diameter were examined. The microscale analyses included the trace of the fabric tensor, magnitude and orien- tation of the contact forces, trace of stress, number of contacts and degree of mobilization of friction in contacts between particles. In polydisperse samples, the average coordination numbers were lower than in monodisperse assemblies, and the mobilization of friction was higher than in monodisperse assemblies due to the non-uniform spatial rearrangement of spheres in the samples and the smaller displacements of the particles. The effect of particle size heterogeneity on both the energy density and energy dissipation in systems was also investigated.展开更多

Soil particles surrounding the leaking area could be mobilised, displaced, and even washed out of the soil matrix by the leaking fluid, generating a void or cavity. A two-dimensional simulation using a coupled discrete element method and lattice Boltzmann method (DEM-LBM) has been used to investigate the behaviour of a soil bed subject to a locally injected fluid, which represents a leak in a pipe. Various values of inter-particle surface energy were also adopted to model the mechanical effects of cohesive particles. The results suggest that the inter-particle surface energy greatly influences the bed response with respect to the leaking fluid, including the excess pressure initiating the cavity, the cavity shape and its evolution rate.展开更多

It is found that yttrium implantation remarkably reduces the isothermal oxidizing rate of Co-40Cr and improves the anti-cracking and anti-spalling properties of Cr2O3 oxide film. The reasons for the improvements are mainly that implanted yttrium reduces the grain size of Cr2O3 oxide, increases the high temperature plasticity of oxide film, and remarkably reduces the number and size of Cr2O3/Co-40Cr interfacial defects.

文摘The coupling iteration (CI) of the finite element method(FEM) is used to simulate the magnetic and mechanical characteristics for a GMM actuator. The convergent ability under different prestress and different load types is investigated. Then the calculated deformations are compared with the experimental values. The results convince that the CI of FEM is suitable for the simulation of energy coupling and transformation mechanism of the GMM. At last, the output deformation properties are studied under different input currents, showing that there is a good compromise between good linearity and large strain under the prestress 6 MPa.

文摘An engineering system may consist of several different types of components, belonging to such physical"domains"as mechanical, electrical, fluid, and thermal. It is termed a multi-domain(or multi-physics)system.The present paper concerns the use of linear graphs(LGs)to generate a minimal model for a multi-physics system.A state-space model has to be a minimal realization.Specifically, the number of state variables in the model should be the minimum number that can completely represent the dynamic state of the system. This choice is not straightforward.Initially, state variables are assigned to all the energy-storage elements of the system. However, some of the energy storage elements may not be independent, and then some of the chosen state variables will be redundant. An approach is presented in the paper, with illustrative examples in the mixed fluid-mechanical domains,to illustrate a way to recognize dependent energy storage elements and thereby obtain a minimal state-space model.System analysis in the frequency domain is known to be more convenient than in the time domain, mainly because the relevant operations are algebraic rather than differential. For achieving this objective, the state space model has to be converted into a transfer function. The direct way is to first convert the state-space model into the input-output differential equation, and then substitute the time derivative by the Laplace variable. This approach is shown in the paper. The same result can be obtained through the transfer function linear graph(TF LG)of the system. In a multi-physics system, first the physical domains have to be converted into an equivalent single domain(preferably, the output domain of the system),when using the method of TFLG.This procedure is illustrated as well,in the present paper.

文摘A timely and accurate damage identification for bridge structures is essential to prevent sudden failures/collapses and other catastrophic accidents.Based on response surface model(RSM)updating and element modal strain energy(EMSE)damage index, this paper proposes a novel damage identification method for girder bridge structures. The effectiveness of the proposed damage identification method is investigated using experiments on four simply supported steel beams. With Xiabaishi Bridge,a prestressed continuous rigid frame bridge with large span,as the engineering background, the proposed damage identification method is validated by using numerical simulation to generate different bearing damage scenarios. Finally, the efficiency of the method is justified by considering its application to identifying cracking damage for a real continuous beam bridge called Xinyihe Bridge. It is concluded that the EMSE damage index is sensitive to the cracking damage and the bearing damage. The locations and levels of multiple cracking damages and bearing damages can be also identified. The results illuminate a great potential of the proposed method in identifying damages of real bridge structures.
文摘A series of numerical tests was conducted to study the micromechanical properties and energy dissipation in polydisperse assemblies of spherical particles subjected to uniaxial compression. The effect of particle size heterogeneity on both the energy density and energy dissipation in systems was also investigated.
文摘Leakage from underground pipes could result in foundations being undermined and cause damage to adjacent infrastructure. The results suggest that the inter-particle surface energy greatly influences the bed response with respect to the leaking fluid, including the excess pressure initiating the cavity, the cavity shape and its evolution rate.
