Short-term high temperature stress often occurs during cotton production, but little is known about the specific timing and duration of stress that affects fiber development. To make this clear, pot experiments were carried in 2014 and 2015 in a climate chamber using cotton cultivars HY370WR(less sensitive variety) and Sumian 15(heat sensitive variety), which present different temperature sensitivities. Changes of the most important fiber quality indices(i.e., fiber length, fiber strength and marcironaire) and three very important fiber development components(i.e., cellulose, sucrose and callose) were analyzed to define the time window and critical duration to the high temperature stress at 34°C(max38°C/min30°C). When developing bolls were subjected to 5 days of high temperature stress at different days post-anthesis(DPA), the changes(Δ%) of fiber length, strength and micronire, as a function of imposed time followed square polynomial eq. as y=a+bx+cx^2, and the time around 15 DPA was the most sensitive period for fiber quality development in response to heat stress. When 15 DPA bolls were heat-stressed for different durations(2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 days), the changes(Δ%) of fiber length, strength and micronire, as a function of stress duration followed logistic equations y=A_1-A_2/1+(x/x_0)~p+A_2. Referred to that 5, 10 and 15% are usually used as criteria to decide whether techniques are effective or changes are significant in crop culture practice and reguard to the fiber quality indices change range, we suggested that 5% changes of the major fiber quality indices(fiber length, fiber strength and micronaire) and 10% changes of fiber development components(cellulose, sucrose and callose) could be taken as criteria to judge whether fiber development and fiber quality have been significantly affected by high temperature stress. The key time window for cotton fiber development in response to the high temperature stress was 13–19 DPA, and the critical duration was about 5 days.展开更多

To overcome the performance challenge for the selective restore operations of deduplication systems, solid-state-drive-based (i.e., SSD-based) re^d cache cm, be deployed for speeding up by caching popular restore contents dynamically. Unfortunately, frequent data updates induced by classical cache schemes (e.g., LRU and LFU) significantly shorten SSDs' lifetime while slowing down I/O processes in SSDs. To address this problem, we propose a new solution -- LOP-Cache to greatly improve tile write durability of SSDs as well as I/O performance by enlarging the proportion of long-term popular (LOP) data among data written into SSD-based cache. LOP-Cache keeps LOP data in the SSD cache for a long time period to decrease the number of cache replacements. Furthermore, it prevents unpopular or unnecessary data in deduplication containers from being written into the SSD cache. We implemented LOP-Cache in a prototype deduplication system to evaluate its pertbrmance. Our experimental results indicate that LOP-Cache shortens the latency of selective restore by an average of 37.3% at the cost of a small SSD-based cache with only 5.56% capacity of the deduplicated data. Importantly, LOP-Cache improves SSDs' lifetime by a factor of 9.77. The evidence shows that LOP-Cache offers a cost-efficient SSD-based read cache solution to boost performance of selective restore for deduplication systems.展开更多

文摘The development of the cotton fiber is very sensitive to temperature variation, and high temperature stress often causes reduced fiber yield and fiber quality. The key time window for cotton fiber development in response to the high temperature stress was 13–19 DPA, and the critical duration was about 5 days.

文摘Background Regular physical training induces adaptive effects across multiple organ systems, highlighting the existence of inter-organ communication networks. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying both exercise-induced adaptations and organ-to-organ signaling are not fully characterized.Circulating extracellular vesicles(EVs),including exosomes, carry molecules like microRNAs(miRNAs)that may mediate tissue crosstalk. This study aimed to identify specific exercise training-responsive miRNAs that affect skeletal muscle function. Methods miRNA expression profiles of serum-derived EVs were analyzed in healthy young individuals before and after 3 weeks endurance exercise training.Exercise training-responsive miRNAs were then validated for a functional role in cellular metabolic processes in human myotubes. Results We identified several exercise training-responsive miRNAs within exosome-rich EVs in serum, including miR-136-3p.In human myotubes,miR-136-3p enhanced glucose uptake and targeted the nardilysin convertase(NRDC)gene.Transfection of miR-136-3p or silencing of NRDC induced a shift towards glycolytic metabolism in mitochondria and modulated gene expressions related to myogenesis.Pancreatic islets were identified as a potential source of miR-136-3p based on in silico analysis of gene expression and a molecular analysis of conditioned media from isolated pancreatic islets. Conclusion MiR-136-3p is an endurance training-responsive molecular transducer that modulates glucose metabolism and cellular proliferation in myocytes.Associated with EVs,extracellular miR-136-3p may serve as a molecular messenger to communicate islet–skeletal muscle crosstalk after exercise.Extracellular miR-136-3p may serve as a molecular messenger to communicate islet–skeletal muscle crosstalk. Our results highlight a miRNA-mediated mechanism that participates in inter-organ communication to fine tune the metabolic adaptations to exercise.

文摘Deduplication has been commonly used in both enterprise storage systems and cloud storage. The evidence shows that LOP-Cache offers a cost-efficient SSD-based read cache solution to boost performance of selective restore for deduplication systems.

文摘Solid-state drives (SSDs)have been widely used as caching tier for disk-based RAID systems to speed up dataintensive applications. However, traditional cache schemes fail to effectively boost the parity-based RAID storage sys- tems (e.g.,RAID-5/6),which have poor random write performance due to the small-write problem. What's worse, intensive cache writes can wear out the SSD quickly, which causes performance degradation and cost increment. In this article,we present the design and implementation of KDD, an efficient SSD-based caching system which Keeps Data and Deltas in SSD.When write requests hit in the cache, KDD dispatches the data to the RAID storage without updating the parity blocks to mitigate the small write penalty, and compactly stores the compressed deltas in SSD to reduce the cache write traffic while guaranteeing reliability in case of disk failures. In addition,KDD organizes the metadata partition on SSD as a circular log to make the cache persistent with low overhead. We evaluate the performance of KDD via both simulations and prototype implementations.Experimental results show that KDD effectively reduces the small write penalty while extending the lifetime of the SSD-based cache by up to 6.85 times.

文摘Background:Despite the wide use of compression garments to enhance athletic running performance, evidence supporting improvements has not been conclusive. This updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials(RCTs)compared the effects of compression garment wearing with those of non-compression garment wearing(controls)during running on improving running performance. Methods:A comprehensive search was conducted in the electronic databases(Web of Science,EBSCOhost,PubMed,Embase,Scopus, and Cochrane)for RCTs comparing running performance between runners wearing compression garments and controls during running, from inception to September 2024.Independent reviewers screened studies, extracted data, appraised risk of bias(RoB 2)and certainty of evidence(Grading of Recommendations Assessments,Development and Evaluation(GRADE)).Primary outcomes were race time and time to exhaustion.Secondary outcomes covered running speed and race pace, submaximal oxygen uptake, tissue oxygenation, and soft tissue vibration.Randomeffects meta-analyses were conducted to generate pooled estimates, expressed in standardized mean difference(SMD).Subgroup differences of garment, race type, and contact surface were tested in moderator analyses. Results:The search yielded 51 eligible studies comprising 899 participants,of which 33 studies were available for meta-analysis of primary outcomes.Runners wearing compression garments during running showed no significant improvement in race time(SMD=-0.07,95%CI:-0.22 to 0.09;p=0.40)or time to exhaustion(SMD=0.04,95%CI:-0.20 to 0.29;p=0.72).Moderator analyses indicated no effects from garment type, race type,or surface.Secondary outcomes also showed no performance benefits, although compression garments significantly reduced soft tissue vibration(SMD=-0.43,95%CI:-0.70 to-0.15;p<0.01).Certainty of evidence was rated low to very low. Conclusion:Data synthesis of current RCTs offers no updated evidence favoring the support of wearing compression garments during running as a viable strategy for improving running and endurance performance among runners of varying performance levels and types of running races.
文摘Background:Sport climbing is becoming incredibly popular both in the general population and among athletes. No consensus exists regarding evidence-based sport-specific performance evaluation;therefore, this systematic review was aimed at analyzing determinants of sport climbing performance and evaluation methods by comparing climbers of different levels. Methods:PubMed,Scopus, and Web of Science were searched up to December 20,2022.Studies providing the self-reported climbing ability associated with different functional outcomes in groups of climbers of contiguous performance levels were eligible.Results:74 studies were finally included.Various methods have been proposed to evaluate determinants of sport climbing performance.Climbing-specific assessments were able to discriminate climbers of different levels when compared to general functional tests.Test validity resulted high for climbing-specific cardiorespiratory endurance as well as muscular-strength,-endurance,and-power;similarly,reliability was good except for cardiorespiratory endurance.Climbing-specific flexibility assessment resulted in high reliability but moderate validity, whereas balance showed low validity.Considerable conflicting evidence was found regarding anthropometric characteristics. Conclusion:The present analysis identified cardiorespiratory endurance as well as muscular-strength,-endurance,and-power as determinants of sport climbing performance. In contrast, balance, flexibility, and anthropometric characteristics seem to count less. This review also proposes an evidence-based Functional Sport Climbing test battery for asses sing performance determinants, which includes tests that have been identified to be valid, reliable, and feasible. While athletes and coaches should rely on evidence-based and standardized evaluation methods, researchers may design specific large-scale trials as a resource for providing additional, homogenous, and comparable data to improve scientific evidence and professionalism in this popular sport discipline.

文摘Background:Surf skateboards have grown in popularity among young people in recent years. However,no research studies have analyzed the effect of surf skateboarding on physical fitness. Objective:The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 8-week surf skateboard training on physical fitness in young adults.Methods:Twenty-two young people, ages 18–24 years were randomly assigned into two groups:a control(CON;n=11)and surf skateboarding(SSK;n=11)group.The surf skateboard training group received an eight-week intervention consisting of three 60-minute(min)sessions per week, while the control group continued with their normal daily lives.Physical fitness was assessed before and after the intervention through a battery of tests that included body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and balance. Results:The results showed that the SSK group demonstrated significant(p<0.05)improvements in maximum voluntary ventilation, back and leg strength, lower body muscular endurance by the sit-to-stand tests, and balance in all direction compared with the pre-test and the CON group. In addition, the SSK group showed significantly(p<0.05)decreased body weight, body mass index, percent body fat,and resting heart rate, while increased maximum oxygen consumption, pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, upper body muscular endurance by the sit-up test and flexibility compared with the pre-test.Conclusion:The findings suggest that surf skateboard training have an effective physical activity intervention to improve body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and balance in young people.
文摘BACKGROUND In pediatric and adolescent athletes, there is a lack of understanding about the impact of factors such as race on the structural or cardiovascular adaptations in response to exercise which may unnecessarily disqualify athletes from the competitive sport. We hypothesized that race has an impact on cardiac adaptions in non-adult athletes.AIM To explore the racial disparity in electrocardiographic(ECG)and echocardiographic(ECHO)parameters in healthy adolescent athletes.METHODS A comprehensive electronic systematic literature search using MEDLINE database was performed from inception to September 20,2024.Inclusion criteria included randomized or observational cohort studies that recruited adolescent competitive athletes in any sport discipline and compared between the Black and White races with an age range of 12-18 years.RESULTS Of 723 records that were identified by the literature search, seven studies(n=5036)were included. The mean age was 13.0-18.0 years old with male predominance.Black athletes had significantly longer PR interval[mean difference(MD)=17.49 millisecond,95% CI:11.70-23.29]and shorter QRS complex duration(MD=-7.35 millisecond,95% CI:-9.17 to-5.53)and corrected QT interval(MD=-4.95 millisecond,95% CI:-7.69 to-2.22)than the White athletes.Black athletes were approximately four times more likely to have first-degree atrioventricular(AV)block, inverted T wave,ST-segment elevation, and left atrium(LA)enlargement than their White counterparts. In terms of ECHO parameters,Black athletes had significantly greater septal wall thickness(MD=0.85 mm,95% CI:0.62-1.07),posterior wall thickness(MD=1.07 mm,95% CI:0.36-1.78),relative wall thickness(MD=0.03,95%CI:0.001-0.06),maximal wall thickness(MD=1.05 mm,95%CI:0.28-1.83),and LA diameter(MD=1.64 mm,95%CI:0.16-3.12).CONCLUSION Race has an impact on the ECG and ECHO parameters that reflect cardiac adaptations in adolescent athletes.Black athletes tend to have an increased prevalence of distinct ECG changes such as first-degree AV block and T-wave inversions compared with their White counterparts.Despite having thicker septal and posterior walls, the overall prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy did not differ between the races.

文摘Background:Habitual physical activity is known to support cardiovascular health. However, when intensive exercise is performed for long durations,it can negatively affect the cardiovascular system. We evaluated the exercise-induced physiological responses of cardiac markers in male marathon runners based on basal plasma trimethylamine-N-oxide(TMAO)levels,a metabolite related to major adverse cardiovascular events. Methods:Blood samples from 28 marathon runners were collected two weeks before the marathon run(baseline),after finishing the race(post-marathon),and two weeks after the race(2 weeks post-marathon).Serum cardiac troponin I(c Tn I),endothelin-1(ET-1),galectin-3,pentraxin-3,human growth differentiation factor 15,and neopterin were determined by the enzyme immunoassay method.Plasma trimethylamine(TMA)and TMAO were measured by the ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method. Results:Running a marathon increased levels of circulating biomarkers.A greater post-marathon elevation of cTn I and ET-1 was associated with baseline plasma TMAO levels(R=0.400,p=0.035 and R=0.476,p=0.012,respectively).Moreover,we observed an increase in post-marathon TMA levels. Conclusion:Greater post-marathon elevation of cTn I and ET-1 was associated with higher baseline plasma TMAO levels. Therefore,TMAO could potentially serve as a new marker in assessing the response of cardiovascular stress biomarkers to marathon running.
文摘Tennis,a popular sport in colleges and universities,is deeply loved by teachers and students. However, due to its high physical demands, technical difficulty, and other characteristics,it requires a high level of physical fitness.Compared to competitive tennis, although college tennis instruction may lack competitiveness and involve lower exercise intensity,it still necessitates regular physical training to enhance body coordination, balance, and agility. This can help students stay physically fit while avoiding injuries. This article explores the content of physical training in college tennis instruction, clarifies the important role of physical training, and summarizes a series of physical training pathways to provide reference support for physical training in college tennis instruction.
