It is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatrics. The aim of our study was to investigate the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of respiratory distress in children aged between 1 month and 15 years seen in the emergency department of the Bangui paediatric university hospital. Methodology: This was a 3-month descriptive cross-sectional study, from January 1 to March 31, 2023. All children aged 1 month to less than 15 years presenting with respiratory distress were included. Results: A total of 3021 children were admitted to the emergency medical services of Bangui’s pediatric university hospital. Of these, 164 were included in the study. The predominance was male, with a sex ratio of 1.09. The 0 - 2 age group was the most represented, with 67 patients (42.85%). The majority of patients came from Bangui, accounting for 146 (89.02%) of cases. Respiratory difficulty (59.15%), characterized by dyspnea and cough, associated with fever, vomiting, physical asthenia and diarrhea, were the main reasons for consultation. The main pathologies noted were respiratory 92 (56.10%), followed by cardiac pathologies 21 (12.8%). Antibiotic administration (76.82%) was the most common therapeutic procedure used in the management of respiratory distress. Conclusion: Respiratory distress remains an important cause of infant mortality in our context, with major management problems.展开更多

The more severe delirium is the worst the clinical outcomes of medical illness. Despite the obvious, not much has been documented on delirium severity and its associated factors among medical inpatients in low income countries including Nigeria. Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the severity of delirium among medical inpatients admitted through the Accident and Emergency unit of Jos University Teaching Hospital as well as to assess its associated Sociodemographic and Clinical characteristics. Method: This was a cross-sectional study that employed a consecutive sampling technique to select 290 eligible subjects from medical inpatients that presented to Accident and Emergency unit of Jos University Teaching Hospital. On admission, patients were assessed for delirium using Confusion Assessment Method and severity of delirium was evaluated using Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98. Results: Of the 105 delirious medical inpatients, 48 (45.7%) had severe delirium, 41 (39.1%) developed less severe delirium while 16 (15.2) presented with no severe delirium. Sociodemographic characteristics found to be significantly associated with less to more severe delirium include male gender (P = 0.001), nonprofessionals (P = 0.003), income range of N20,000 - N49,000 (P Conclusion: This study demonstrates that delirium is often associated with higher severity in Accident and Emergency unit admission and there are strongly associated clinical characteristics to watch out for in high risk medical inpatients.展开更多

Objective: Study obstetric ...Introduction: Obstetric emergencies are common throughout the world and more particularly in developing countries where they are responsible for high maternal-fetal mortality and morbidity. Objective: Study obstetric emergencies in the maternity ward of Kara University Hospital. Method: Retrospective and descriptive study from April 1, 2022 to March 30, 2023, carried out in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Kara University Hospital. Results: Eight hundred and thirty-five (835) obstetric emergencies were recorded out of 2215 admissions, i.e. a frequency of 37.7%. The average age of the patients was 26.7 with a range of 14 and 45 years. They were primigravidas (36.7%) and nulliparous (38.7%), referred (84.7%) and came from rural areas (72%). Emergencies occurred in the 3<sup>rd</sup> trimester in 74.1% and in parturients (54.1%). Preeclampsia (27%), cessation of progression of labor due to feto-pelvic disproportion (12.4%), postpartum hemorrhage (7.5%) constituted the main obstetric emergencies. In 44.8%, the delivery was carried out vaginally. Magnesium sulfate was the most used drug, i.e. 30.1%;followed by antihypertensive medications in 28.1%. Blood transfusion was performed in 24.3%. The evolution was simple in 90.9%. The maternal fatality rate was 1.6%. The perinatal case fatality rate was 12.3%. Conclusion: Obstetric emergencies are common, dominated by preeclampsia, stopping progress of labor and postpartum hemorrhages. They are responsible for high morbidity and mortality.展开更多

Objective:To explore the application effect of emergency rescue capability intervention among students in a university in Beijing.Methods:A total of 900 students from a university in Beijing in 2023 were selected as t...Objective:To explore the application effect of emergency rescue capability intervention among students in a university in Beijing.Methods:A total of 900 students from a university in Beijing in 2023 were selected as the research objects.Emergency rescue capability training was conducted from March 2023 to June 2023,once a month.The students’mastery of emergency rescue before and after the intervention was analyzed.Survey questionnaires were distributed to all college students to understand their channels and willingness to acquire emergency rescue knowledge.Results:A total of 886 valid questionnaires were collected in this study.The highest proportion of knowledge about China’s general emergency telephone number and how to dial the emergency rescue hotline was 100.00%.Among the strategies for dealing with cardiac arrest in CPR,the highest proportion was 336.34%.Among the four major first aid techniques of hemostasis,bandaging,fixation,transportation,the highest proportion of knowledge about the use of rubber band signs was 31.71%.Among the first aid techniques for heatstroke,poisoning,fire,and sharp instrument injuries,the principle of emergency treatment for severe gas poisoning had the highest proportion of 41.42%,showing significant differences.College students mainly acquire knowledge of emergency rescue capability through TV programs,health education lectures,and the internet.Around 61.40%of college students hope to learn more about prevention and control knowledge.Conclusion:After the intervention of emergency rescue capability,the emergency rescue capability of college students in this university has been significantly improved,showing a strong training effect,which is worthy of promotion.展开更多
