Operationalizing physical literacy for learners: Embodying the motivation to move 被引量:11

Physical literacy is a concept that is expected to encompass the mind and body in an integrated way to explain, promote, and help sustain human beings' fundamental function: movement. According to Whitehead(2010),... Physical literacy is a concept that is expected to encompass the mind and body in an integrated way to explain, promote, and help sustain human beings' fundamental function: movement. According to Whitehead(2010), physical literacy is defined by motivation, especially by competence-based and interest-based motivation. This point of view is consistent with vast amount of research evidence on children and adolescents' physical activity behavior. In the article I attempt to interpret and operationalize physical literacy from a perspective that children's motivation in physical education is both an innate mental disposition and an acquired/learned attribute. Particularly I rely on the conceptual learning theory and motivation regulation mechanisms of the self-determination theory to argue that in physical education, children should experience tasks that inspire them to embody competence and interest along with self-regulation strategies necessary for developing and sustaining the motivation to move. 展开更多

Background:Based on a profound awareness of crisis sense,Huai Nan-zi warns people of the importance of being prepared for danger in times of peace by using the principle that Heaven and Earth are ever-changing and never-ending.It also consciously constructs a cosmic life view of the organic,homologous,isomorphic,and harmonious unity of heaven,earth,and man based on human existence and destiny with a rational thinking attitude.The life philosophy of the Huai Nan-zi offers modern people a completely new holistic view of life and medicine.Not only in China,but also in Western countries,studying its medical philosophical ideas helps us better explore the theoretical roots of TCM in the era of globalized medicine.Methods:This paper mainly uses the analysis method of literature review and chinese philosophy intellectual concepts.It employs the I Ching’s image-number logic thinking method to compare images through analogy and the holistic thinking method of the three-talent view of heaven,earth,and human to understand life consciousness.Results:This article mainly interprets medical philosophy in Huai Nan-zi through three aspects:1)The body of Taoism:heaven,earth,and humanity constitute one unity within the body of the universe;2)The spirit of Taoism:keeping the spirit inward,preserving the essence and suppressing the superficial;and 3)The mind of Taoism:the principle of life governed by the dynamics of gain and loss,prosperity and decline.Conclusion:The philosophy of life presented in the Huai Nan-zi ultimately charts a course toward a state of profound theoretical integration.Its“conscious map”does not lead to a fixed destination,but to a continuous and dynamic mode of being–a life of flourishing known in Chinese as yang sheng,the nurturing of life.The destination,therefore,is the journey itself,undertaken with unwavering cosmic awareness and harmony.This ancient text reminds us that a truly healthy life is not a fragmented pursuit of physical fitness,mental peace,or spiritual insight in isolation.Instead,it is the symphony of all three(Taoist body,spirit,and mind),orchestrated by the fundamental principles of the cosmos.By aligning our inner nature with the outer Tao,we transform our existence from a series of reactive struggles into a graceful and spontaneous free flow.In a modern world characterized by fragmentation,overstimulation,and a relentless push against natural rhythms,the Huai Nan-zi’s life consciousness map is more relevant than ever.The philosophy of Huai Nan-zi not only plays a vital role in the construction of the theoretical system of TCM in ancient East life wisdom,but also is worthwhile for Western life sciences to conduct in-depth exploration and discovery in the age of AI. 展开更多

Biological undulation enables legless creatures to move naturally,and robustly in various environments.Consequently,many kinds of undulating robots have been developed.However,the fundamental mechanism of biological undulation gait generation has not yet been well explained,which hinders deepening the investigation and optimization of these robots.Towards developing a theory for explaining this biological behavior,which will further guide the design of artificial undulation systems,we propose a hypothesis based on both biological findings and previous robotics studies.To verify the hypothesis,we investigate embodied intelligence of undulation locomotion via a mechanical system.Through experimental study,we observe the phenomenon that undulation gait is a production of the source,which is the torque inputs,and the filter,which is the natural dynamics of the system.We further derive a general mathematical model and conduct morphological computation accordingly.From a simple model to a complicated system,our work explores the principles of undulation gait generation.Our findings significantly simplify the control system design of artificial undulating systems. 展开更多

As embodied intelligence(EI),large language models(LLMs),and cloud computing continue to advance,Industry5.0 facilitates the development of industrial artificial intelligence(Ind AI)through cyber-physical-social systems(CPSSs)with a human-centric focus.These technologies are organized by the system-wide approach of Industry 5.0,in order to empower the manufacturing industry to achieve broader societal goals of job creation,economic growth,and green production.This survey first provides a general framework of smart manufacturing in the context of Industry 5.0.Wherein,the embodied agents,like robots,sensors,and actuators,are the carriers for Ind AI,facilitating the development of the self-learning intelligence in individual entities,the collaborative intelligence in production lines and factories(smart systems),and the swarm intelligence within industrial clusters(systems of smart systems).Through the framework of CPSSs,the key technologies and their possible applications for supporting the single-agent,multi-agent and swarm-agent embodied Ind AI have been reviewed,such as the embodied perception,interaction,scheduling,multi-mode large language models,and collaborative training.Finally,to stimulate future research in this area,the open challenges and opportunities of applying Industry 5.0 to smart manufacturing are identified and discussed.The perspective of Industry 5.0-driven manufacturing industry aims to enhance operational productivity and efficiency by seamlessly integrating the virtual and physical worlds in a human-centered manner,thereby fostering an intelligent,sustainable,and resilient industrial landscape. 展开更多

Large language models(LLMs)have undergone significant expansion and have been increasingly integrated across various domains.Notably,in the realm of robot task planning,LLMs harness their advanced reasoning and language comprehension capabilities to formulate precise and efficient action plans based on natural language instructions.However,for embodied tasks,where robots interact with complex environments,textonly LLMs often face challenges due to a lack of compatibility with robotic visual perception.This study provides a comprehensive overview of the emerging integration of LLMs and multimodal LLMs into various robotic tasks.Additionally,we propose a framework that utilizes multimodal GPT-4V to enhance embodied task planning through the combination of natural language instructions and robot visual perceptions.Our results,based on diverse datasets,indicate that GPT-4V effectively enhances robot performance in embodied tasks.This extensive survey and evaluation of LLMs and multimodal LLMs across a variety of robotic tasks enriches the understanding of LLM-centric embodied intelligence and provides forward-looking insights towards bridging the gap in Human-Robot-Environment interaction. 展开更多

Multi-agent systems(MASs)have demonstrated significant achievements in a wide range of tasks,leveraging their capacity for coordination and adaptation within complex environments.Moreover,the enhancement of their intelligent functionalities is crucial for tackling increasingly challenging tasks.This goal resonates with a paradigm shift within the artificial intelligence(AI)community,from“internet AI”to“embodied AI”,and the MASs with embodied AI are referred to as embodied multi-agent systems(EMASs).An EMAS has the potential to acquire generalized competencies through interactions with environments,enabling it to effectively address a variety of tasks and thereby make a substantial contribution to the quest for artificial general intelligence.Despite the burgeoning interest in this domain,a comprehensive review of EMAS has been lacking.This paper offers analysis and synthesis for EMASs from a control perspective,conceptualizing each embodied agent as an entity equipped with a“brain”for decision and a“body”for environmental interaction.System designs are classified into open-loop,closed-loop,and double-loop categories,and EMAS implementations are discussed.Additionally,the current applications and challenges faced by EMASs are summarized and potential avenues for future research in this field are provided. 展开更多

Robotic computing systems play an important role in enabling intelligent robotic tasks through intelligent algo-rithms and supporting hardware.In recent years,the evolution of robotic algorithms indicates a roadmap from traditional robotics to hierarchical and end-to-end models.This algorithmic advancement poses a critical challenge in achieving balanced system-wide performance.Therefore,algorithm-hardware co-design has emerged as the primary methodology,which ana-lyzes algorithm behaviors on hardware to identify common computational properties.These properties can motivate algo-rithm optimization to reduce computational complexity and hardware innovation from architecture to circuit for high performance and high energy efficiency.We then reviewed recent works on robotic and embodied AI algorithms and computing hard-ware to demonstrate this algorithm-hardware co-design methodology.In the end,we discuss future research opportunities by answering two questions:(1)how to adapt the computing platforms to the rapid evolution of embodied AI algorithms,and(2)how to transform the potential of emerging hardware innovations into end-to-end inference improvements. 展开更多

Embodied visual exploration is critical for building intelligent visual agents. This paper presents the neural exploration with feature-based visual odometry and tracking-failure-reduction policy(Ne OR), a framework for embodied visual exploration that possesses the efficient exploration capabilities of deep reinforcement learning(DRL)-based exploration policies and leverages feature-based visual odometry(VO) for more accurate mapping and positioning results. An improved local policy is also proposed to reduce tracking failures of feature-based VO in weakly textured scenes through a refined multi-discrete action space, keyframe fusion, and an auxiliary task. The experimental results demonstrate that Ne OR has better mapping and positioning accuracy compared to other entirely learning-based exploration frameworks and improves the robustness of feature-based VO by significantly reducing tracking failures in weakly textured scenes. 展开更多
