Yeasts resulting from the brewing process (RBY) are a valuable by-product, with an important content of minerals, vitamins and, especially, proteins. The purpose of the research was the electroactivation of RBY and the simultaneous obtaining of two products<span style="font-family:"">—protein concentrates and hydrolyzed protein from residual brewer’s yeast. Electroactivation is a non-residual process, without the use of chemical reagents and relatively inexpensive. The variation of the electroactivation conditions allowed the separation of 90% - 94% of the proteins in the form of protein concentrates. During the process, it is attested to increase the pH value and decrease the redox potential, which characterizes the multiple redox processes that take place in the cathode cell, including sedimentation at the isoelectric point. The presence of albumin in the protein fractions of RBY allows the formation of protein complexes with calcium, attributing a higher biological value to the obtained products. 展开更多

Studies were carried out to find out the optimal parameters of enucleation and electroactivation ofrecipient rabbit oocyte for successful nuclear transfer, using the fluorescent stain,DAPI(4-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole),and electroactivation.According to the position of metaphasechromosomes in relation to the first polar body, the oocytes were classified into three types:1.thosewith chromosomes juxtaposed to the polar body;2.those with chromosomes in its adjacency; and3.those with chromosomes further removed. The relative proportions of each type appeared to varywith the time of maturation at which the oocytes were collected, with those of the later typesincreasing as the maturation process went further on.In addition,in-vitro cultivation ofelectroactivated oocytes gave the best results with oocytes that matured in-vito after injection ofovulating hormones(LH or HCG)and oocytes that were cultivated in-vitro for 17-19 hours. As aresult,it is recommended that oocytes be selected from those collected from the oviducts 13-15 hoursafter injection of LH or HCG,and electrofusion and electroactivation be done aftermicromanipulation and in-vito cultivation for 2-4 hours.By so doing,it is expected to achieve thehighest enucleation rate of oocytes and the highest fusion rate, the highest activation rate and thehighest development rate of the restructured embryos. 展开更多

Flexible and all-solid-state zinc-air batteries(ZABs)are highly useful and also in demand due to their theoretical high energy densities and special applications. The limitation in their performance arises due to their catalyst-coated cathode electrodes in terms of catalytic activity and stability as well as cost.In this paper,a novel and environmentally friendly activation strategy is developed to activate the carbon cloth(CC)for the electrodes. The activated CC serves as a catalyst-free air cathode with high conductivity, excellent mechanical strength, and flexibility,in addition to low cost. The strategy is performed by simply electro-oxidizing and electroreducing CC under ultrahigh direct current(DC)voltage in a diluted NH4Cl aqueous electrolyte. It is found that the electro-oxidation not only results in the formation of a graphene-like exfoliated carbon layer on the surface of CC but also induces the incorporation of oxygen-containing groups and doping of nitrogen and chloride atoms. After the electroreduction,theπ-conjugated carbon network of CC is partially restored, leading to the recovery of electroconductivity.Such an electroactivated CC shows excellent oxygen reduction reaction activity. The aqueous flexibility and all-solid-state ZABs are assembled using such an electroactivated CC cathode without any catalyst loading. Both ZABs can achieve good durability and deliver high peak power density and an energy density as high as 690 Wh kg^(−1),demonstrating the excellent potential of this electroactivated CC in practical devices. 展开更多
