This paper investigates the reliability of internal marine combustion engines using an integrated approach that combines Fault Tree Analysis(FTA)and Bayesian Networks(BN).FTA provides a structured,top-down method for identifying critical failure modes and their root causes,while BN introduces flexibility in probabilistic reasoning,enabling dynamic updates based on new evidence.This dual methodology overcomes the limitations of static FTA models,offering a comprehensive framework for system reliability analysis.Critical failures,including External Leakage(ELU),Failure to Start(FTS),and Overheating(OHE),were identified as key risks.By incorporating redundancy into high-risk components such as pumps and batteries,the likelihood of these failures was significantly reduced.For instance,redundant pumps reduced the probability of ELU by 31.88%,while additional batteries decreased the occurrence of FTS by 36.45%.The results underscore the practical benefits of combining FTA and BN for enhancing system reliability,particularly in maritime applications where operational safety and efficiency are critical.This research provides valuable insights for maintenance planning and highlights the importance of redundancy in critical systems,especially as the industry transitions toward more autonomous vessels. 展开更多

This study introduces the type-I heavy-tailed Burr XII(TIHTBXII)distribution,a highly flexible and robust statistical model designed to address the limitations of conventional distributions in analyzing data characterized by skewness,heavy tails,and diverse hazard behaviors.We meticulously develop the TIHTBXII’s mathematical foundations,including its probability density function(PDF),cumulative distribution function(CDF),and essential statistical properties,crucial for theoretical understanding and practical application.A comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation evaluates four parameter estimation methods:maximum likelihood(MLE),maximum product spacing(MPS),least squares(LS),and weighted least squares(WLS).The simulation results consistently show that as sample sizes increase,the Bias and RMSE of all estimators decrease,with WLS and LS often demonstrating superior and more stable performance.Beyond theoretical development,we present a practical application of the TIHTBXII distribution in constructing a group acceptance sampling plan(GASP)for truncated life tests.This application highlights how the TIHTBXII model can optimize quality control decisions by minimizing the average sample number(ASN)while effectively managing consumer and producer risks.Empirical validation using real-world datasets,including“Active Repair Duration,”“Groundwater Contaminant Measurements,”and“Dominica COVID-19 Mortality,”further demonstrates the TIHTBXII’s superior fit compared to existing models.Our findings confirm the TIHTBXII distribution as a powerful and reliable alternative for accurately modeling complex data in fields such as reliability engineering and quality assessment,leading to more informed and robust decision-making. 展开更多

The rock mass rating(RMR)system is one of the most commonly used methods for classifying rock masses in underground engineering.Uncertainty of RMR values can signifi cantly aff ect the safety of underground projects.In this regard,we proposed a reliable rating approach for classifying rock masses based on the reliability theory.This theory was incorporated into the RMR system to establish the functions of rock masses of different classifications.By analyzing the probability distribution patterns of various parameters used in the RMR system and using the Monte Carlo method to calculate the reliability probability of surrounding rock belonging to each classifi cation,reliable RMR values for the rock mass to be excavated can be obtained.The results demonstrate that it is feasible to adopt the reliability theory in classifi cation tasks considering the randomness characteristics of rock and soil.As verified through a case study of the Lushan Tunnel project,the proposed approach can be used to obtain the probability of the uncertainty of the calculated RMR values of underground engineering rock masses,and the calculation results are consistent with reality.The proposed approach can serve as a reference for studies in other fi elds and also applies to other rock mass classifi cation methods. 展开更多

The numerical characteristic of dynamic response and sensitivity of dynamic response based on probability of structure were deduced respectively. By equivalent disposing, the reliability constraints were changed into conventional forms. To improve the computational efficiency and accuracy of multi-objective reliability estimation for aerospace engineering structural systems,the Intelligent Vectorial Surrogate Modeling(IVSM)concept is presented by fusing the compact support region,surrogate modeling methods,matrix theory,and Bayesian optimization strategy.In this concept,the compact support region is employed to select effective modeling samples;the surrogate modeling methods are employed to establish a functional relationship between input variables and output responses;the matrix theory is adopted to establish the vector and cell arrays of modeling parameters and synchronously determine multi-objective limit state functions;the Bayesian optimization strategy is utilized to search for the optimal hyperparameters for modeling.Under this concept,the Intelligent Vectorial Neural Network(IVNN)method is proposed based on deep neural network to realize the reliability analysis of multi-objective aerospace engineering structural systems synchronously.The multioutput response function approximation problem and two engineering application cases(i.e.,landing gear brake system temperature and aeroengine turbine blisk multi-failures)are used to verify the applicability of IVNN method.The results indicate that the proposed approach holds advantages in modeling properties and simulation performances.The efforts of this paper can offer a valuable reference for the improvement of multi-objective reliability assessment theory. 展开更多

Due to the influence of joint fissure, mining intensity, designed slope angle, underground water and rainfall, the failure process of mine slope project is extremely complicated. The current safety factor calculation method has certain limitations, and it would be difficult to obtain the reliability index when the performance function of reliability analysis is implicit or has high order terms. Therefore, with the help of the logistic equation of chaos theory, a new algorithm of mine slope reliability based on limiting state hyper-plane is proposed. It is shown that by using this new reliability algorithm the calculation of partial derivative of performance function is avoided, and it has the advantages of being simple and easy to program. The new algorithm is suitable for calculating the reliability index of complex performance function containing high order terms. Furthermore, the limiting state hyper-plane models of both simplified Bishop's and Janbu's method adaptive to slope project are obtained, and have achieved satisfactory effect in the study of mine slope stability in Dexing copper open pit. 展开更多

Data fusion has the function of maximizing the amount of valu- able information extracted from disparate data sources to obtain the comprehensive reliability knowledge. Consid- ering the degradation failure and the catastrophic failure simultaneously, which are competing risks and can affect the reliability, a reliability evaluation model based on data fusion for aircraft engines is developed, Above the characteristics of the proposed model, reliability evaluation is more feasible than that by only utilizing failure data alone, and is also more accurate than that by only considering single failure mode. The allocation is separated into two steps to reduce calculated amount of one allocation. According to the equal probability rule, the equivalent loads are derived, and the reliability analysis method based on load-life interference model and recurrence formula is constructed. In conjunction with finite element analysis (FEA) program, the reliability of an aero engine turbine disk under low cycle fatigue (LCF) condition has been analyzed. Large engineering plants(LEPs)have certain unique features that necessitate a maintenance strategy that is a combination of both time and condition based maintenance.Although this requirement is appreciated to varying degrees by asset owners,applied research leading to a systematic development of such a maintenance strategy is the need of the day.Such a strategy should also adopt a wholesome"systemic"approach so that the realization of the overall objectives of maintenance is maximized.E-maintenance has several potential benefits for large engineering plants.In this paper,a three pronged strategy is suggested for the successful implementation of e-maintenance for LEPs.Firstly,an integrated condition and time based maintenance framework is proposed for LEPs.Secondly,reference is drawn to models for condition and time based maintenance at systemic levels.As a part of the ab initio development of a condition monitoring system for a LEP,one of the characteristics of the condition monitoring system,namely,predictability,is discussed in detail as a sample for a systemic study.Thirdly,emphasis is laid on the information and expertise available in the domain of plant design,operation and maintenance and the same is tapped for incorporation in maintenance decision making. 展开更多

The reliability of an Engine Electronic Controller(EEC)attracts attention,which has a critical impact on aircraft engine safety.Reliability assessment is an important part of the design phase.However,the complex composition of EEC and the characteristic of the Phased-Mission System(PMS)lead to the difficulty of assessment.This paper puts forward an advanced approach,considering the complex products and uncertain mission profiles to evaluate the Mean Time Between Failures(MTBF)in the design phase.The failure mechanisms of complex components are deduced by Bayesian Deep Learning(BDL)intelligent algorithm.And copious samples of reliability simulation are solved by cloud computing technology.Based on the result of BDL and cloud computing,simulations are conducted with the Physics of Failure(Po F)theory and Failure Behavior Model(FBM).This reliability assessment approach can evaluate MTBF of electronic products without reference to physical tests.Finally,an EEC is applied to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the method. 展开更多

Four BT-based ceramic samples were prepared using a grain grading approach.The bigger-grained(~100 nm)and smaller-grained(~70 nm)BaTiO_(3)(BT)powders were mixed.The smaller-grained BT powder controlled the average grain size and guaranteed the reliability,while the bigger-grained powder enhanced the dielectric constant.Various percentages of bigger-grained BT powder were introduced to balance the average grain size and the dielectric constant.As the proportion of bigger grains increased,the dielectric constant(εr)improved significantly.The room-temperatureεr of 25%bigger-grain mixed BT(2623)was~50%higher than that of the sample with a similar average grain size without grain grading.The ceramic mixed with 15%bigger-grained BT showed comprehensive dielectric performance,which met the EIA X5R standard and provided a considerableεr of 1841 along with a low dielectric loss of 0.78%.Notably,the average grain size was 90 nm,which favors the applications in ultra-thin multilayer ceramic capacitors. 展开更多

In this paper,we used reliability based design optimization method to solve the structure design problem of aero-engine spindle ball bearings.Compared with the optimization design method, the value of equivalent dynamic load using reliability optimization design method was the least by MATLAB simulation.
