It is proved that cutting regularity is greatly affected by cooling liquid's washing ability. Discharge characteristics and theoretic analysis between two electrodes are also discussed based on discharge waveform. By using composite cooling liquid which has strong washing ability, the efficiency in the first stable cutting phase has reached more than 200 mm^2/min, and the roughness of the surface has reached Ra〈0.8 μm after the fourth cutting with more than 50 mm^2/min average cutting efficiency. It is pointed out that cutting situation of the wire cut electrical discharge machine with high wire traveling speed (HSWEDM) is better than the wire cut electrical discharge machine with low wire traveling speed (LSWEDM) in the condition of improving the cooling liquid washing ability. The machining indices of HSWEDM will be increased remarkably by using the composite cooling liquid. 展开更多

The South African gold mining sector remains a significant contributor to the country’s economy.Facing several challenges that hinder the realisation of South Africa’s full mineral potential, the sector’s sustainability and profitability can be enhanced through implementing operational improvement measures.Mobile cooling units(MCUs)were identified as a potential focus area for operational improvement.MCUs are used as tertiary or in-stope cooling in hot underground workings. In this paper,a method was presented to characterise the performance of existing MCUs based on three key performance indicators(KPIs),namely, the wet-bulb temperature ratio(WTR),efficiency and position.Optimisation strategies were then elected and implemented based on these KPIs.The implementation of this method in a South African gold mine attained a reduction in pumped water volumes, reduced operating costs through electricity cost savings and improvements in underground ventilation air temperatures. 展开更多

Actively cooled thermal protection system has great influence on the engine of a hypersonic vehicle, and it is significant to obtain the thermal and stress distribution in the system. So an analytic estimation and numerical modeling are performed in this paper to investigate the behavior of an actively cooled thermal protection system. The analytic estimation is based on the electric analogy method and finite element analysis(FEA) is applied to the numerical simulation. Temperature and stress distributions are obtained for the actively cooled channel walls with three kinds of nickel alloys with or with no thermal barrier coating(TBC). The temperature of the channel wall with coating has no obvious difference from the one with no coating, but the stress with coating on the channel wall is much smaller than that with no coating. Inconel X-750 has the best characteristics among the three Ni-based materials due to its higher thermal conductivity, lower elasticity module and greater allowable stress. Analytic estimation and numerical modeling results are compared with each other and a reasonable agreement is obtained. 展开更多

In order to solve the problems of high temperature and inconsistency in the operation of electric vehicle( EV) battery pack, computational fluid dynamics( CFD) simulation method is used to simulate and optimize the heat dissipation of battery pack. The heat generation rate at different discharge magnifications is identified by establishing the heat generation model of the battery. In the forced air cooling mode, the Fluent software is used to compare the effects of different inlet and outlet directions, inlet angles, outlet angles, outlet sizes and inlet air speeds on heat dissipation. The simulation results show that the heat dissipation effect of the structure with the inlet and outlet on the same side is better than that on the different sides; the appropriate inlet angle and outlet width can improve the uniformity of temperature field; the increase of the inlet speed can improve the heat dissipation effect significantly. Compared with the steady temperature field of the initial structure, the average temperature after structure optimization is reduced by 4. 8℃ and the temperature difference is reduced by 15. 8℃,so that the battery can work under reasonable temperature and temperature difference. 展开更多

As the ubiquitous electric power internet of things(UEPIoT)evolves and IoT data increases, traditional scheduling modes for load dispatch centers have yielded a variety of chal-lenges such as calculation of real-time optimization, extraction of time-varying characteristics and formulation of coordinated scheduling strategy for capacity optimization of electric heating and cooling loads. In this paper,a deep neural network coor-dination model for electric heating and cooling loads based on the situation awareness(SA)of thermostatically controlled loads(TCLs)is proposed.First,a sliding window is used to adaptively preprocess the IoT node data with uncertainty.According to personal thermal comfort(PTC)and peak shaving contribution(PSC),a dynamic model for loads is proposed;meanwhile, personalized behavior and consumer psychology are integrated into a flexible regulation model of TCLs.Then,a deep Q-network(DQN)-based approach, using the thermal comfort and electricity cost as the comprehensive reward function,is proposed to solve the sequential decision problem. Finally, the simulation model is designed to support the validity of the deep neural network coordination model for electric heating and cooling loads,by using UEPIoT intelligent dispatching system data. The case study demonstrates that the proposed method can efficiently manage coordination with large-scale electric heating and cooling loads. 展开更多

This study is dedicated to a numerical investigation of convective heat transfer on the rotor surfaces of a rotor-stator configuration that is typically found in large hydro-generators.The computational fluid dynamics calculations with two turbulence modelling approaches are used to predict the flow structure and heat transfer in the air gap of the rotor-stator configuration. The steady state mixing plane approach is employed at the interface to couple the rotor and stator components. Results show that the location of mixing plane interface in the air gap plays an important role in the prediction of heat transfer on the pole face. Also,it is indicated that the prediction of temperature distribution on the pole face is greatly affected by the turbulence models used.Furthermore, through a comparison between the pure convective and conjugate heat transfer methodologies,it is shown that the inclusion of solid domain into the numerical model significantly improves the thermal prediction of the solid components of the machine. 展开更多
