High-resolution approaches such as multiple signal classification and estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques(ESPRIT) are currently employed widely in multibeam echo-sounder(MBES)systems for sea floor bathymetry, where a uniform line array is also required. However, due to the requirements in terms of the system coverage/resolution and installation space constraints,an MBES system usually employs a receiving array with a special shape, which means that high-resolution algorithms cannot be applied directly. In addition, the short-term stationary echo signals make it difficult to estimate the covariance matrix required by the high-resolution approaches, which further increases the complexity when applying the high-resolution algorithms in the MBES systems. The ESPRIT with multiple-angle subarray beamforming is employed to reduce the requirements in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio, number of snapshots, and computational effort. The simulations show that the new processing method can provide better fine-structure resolution. Then a highresolution bottom detection(HRBD) algorithm is developed by combining the new processing method with virtual array transformation. The application of the HRBD algorithm to a U-shaped array is also discuss. The computer simulations and experimental data processing results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

With the development of ultra-wide coverage technology, multibeam echo-sounder(MBES)system has put forward higher requirements for localization accuracy and computational efficiency of ray tracing method. The classical equivalent sound speed profile(ESSP)method replaces the measured sound velocity profile(SVP)with a simple constant gradient SVP,reducing the computational workload of beam positioning. However,in deep-sea environment, the depth measurement error of this method rapidly increases from the central beam to the edge beam.By analyzing the positioning error of the ESSP method at edge beam,it is discovered that the positioning error increases monotonically with the incident angle, and the relationship between them could be expressed by polynomial function. Therefore,an error correction algorithm based on polynomial fitting is obtained. The simulation experiment conducted on an inclined seafloor shows that the proposed algorithm exhibits comparable efficiency to the original ESSP method, while significantly improving bathymetry accuracy by nearly eight times in the edge beam. 展开更多

Recognizing the risk of fluvial bank erosion is an important challenge to ensure the early warning and prevention or control of bank collapse in river catchments, including in the Yangtze River. This study introduces a geomorphons-based algorithm to extract river bank erosion information by adjusting the flatness from multibeam echo-sounding data. The algorithm maps ten subaqueous morphological elements, including the slope, footslope, flat, ridge, peak, valley, pit, spur, hollow, and shoulder.Twentyone flatness values were used to build an interpretation strategy for the subaqueous features of riverbank erosion. The results show that the bank scarp, which is the erosion carrier,is covered by slope cells when the flatness is 10°.The scour pits and bank scars are indicated by pit cells near the bank and hollow cells in the bank slope at a flatness of 0°.Fluvial subaqueous dunes are considered an important factor accelerating bank erosion, particularly those near the bank toe;the critical flatness of the dunes was evaluated as 3°.The distribution of subaqueous morphological elements was analyzed and used to map the bank erosion inventory. The analysis results revealed that the near-bank zone, with a relatively large water depth,is prone to form large scour pits and a long bank scarp.Arc collapse tends to occur at the long bank scarp to shorten its length. The varied assignment of flatness values among terrestrial, marine, and fluvial environments is discussed, concluding that diversified flatness values significantly enable fluvial subaqueous morphology recognition.Consequently, this study provides a reference for the flatness-based recognition of fluvial morphological elements and enhances the targeting of subaqueous signs and risks of bank failure with a range of multibeam bathymetric data. 展开更多

The wobble errors caused by the imperfect integration of motion sensors and transducers in multibeam echo-sounder systems(MBES)manifest as high-frequency wobbles in swaths and hinder the accurate expression of high-resolution seabed micro-topography under a dynamic marine environment. There are many types of wobble errors with certain coupling among them. However, those current calibration methods ignore the coupling and are mainly manual adjustments. Therefore,we proposed an automatic calibration method with the coupling.First, given the independence of the transmitter and the receiver, the traditional georeferenced model is modified to improve the accuracy of footprint reduction.Secondly, based on the improved georeferenced model, the calibration model associated with motion scale, time delay, yaw misalignment, lever arm errors, and soundings is constructed. Finally, the genetic algorithm(GA)is used to search dynamically for the optimal estimation of the corresponding error parameters to realize the automatic calibration of wobble errors. The simulated data show that the accuracy of the calibrated data can be controlled within 0.2%of the water depth. The measured data show that after calibration, the maximum standard deviation of the depth is reduced by about 5.9%,and the mean standard deviation of the depth is reduced by about 11.2%.The proposed method has significance in the precise calibration of dynamic errors in shallow water multibeam bathymetrie s. 展开更多
