The reason why the tidal drag has been questioned as the mechanism determining the lithospheric shift relative to the underlying mantle is the apparent too high viscosity of the asthenosphere. However, plate boundaries asymmetries are a robust indication of the 'westerly'decoupling of the entire Earth's outer lithospheric shell and new studies support lower viscosities in the low-velocity layer(LVZ) atop the asthenosphere. Since the solid Earth tide oscillation is longer in one side relative to the other due to the contemporaneous Moon's revolution, we demonstrate that a non-linear rheological behavior is expected in the lithosphere mantle interplay. This may provide a sort of ratchet favoring lowering of the LVZ viscosity under shear, allowing decoupling in the LVZ and triggering the westerly motion of the lithosphere relative to the mantle.展开更多

Firstly, the numerical model is described. The wave-induced current is modeled using the concept of the radiation stress. The wave propagation model is based on the wave energy conservation equation. And the advective diffusion model including the Stokes drift is used to describe the pollutant transport in the surf zone. Model validation was achieved in this case versus an analytical solution for an instantaneous point source in a uniform horizontal flow. This study also describes a laboratory experiment on dye release in the surf zone over a plane beach. We examined the final inclination angle required by a continuously released pollutant plume to reach the shoreline under both cases, and transport velocities in the alongshore and cross- shore directions were estimated by linearly fitting the location of a dye-patch front at different time. Results show that this dye patch moved shoreward with an approximate speed of 0.05 m/s (0.017 m/s) between 10 s and 40 s and 0.001 m/s (0.011 m/s) after 40 s for Case 1 (2). This model was then used to simulate pollutant transport in the surf zone on a plane beach as reproduced in the current experiment. Comparisons between our dye transport experiment and numerical results were then also conducted;the data showed that the numerical results including Stokes drift agreed more closely with experimental results than those without it. The data showed that the pollutant was generally transported obviously shoreward in addition to its expected drift along the shore. We also suggest that Stokes drift plays an important role in pollutant movement in the surf zone, especially shoreward.展开更多

The simulation results show the following: 1) For normal toroidal magnetic field, the increasing of core plasma density leads to large divertor asymmetries due to poloidal E × B and diamagnetic drifts. 2) Switching on the E × B and diamagnetic drifts leads to large change in poloidal distribution of radial electric field and induced counter-clockwise circulation (flow) around the x-point. 3) Switching on the E × B and diamagnetic drifts leads to the structure of poloidal distribution of radial electric field is nonmonotonic which responsible for negative spikes. 4) Switching on the E × B and diamagnetic drifts in vicinity of separatrix leads to the structure of poloidal distribution of radial electric field that has viscous layer. 5) Switching on the E × B and diamagnetic drifts results in torque generation. This torque spins up the toroidal rotation. 6) The E × B drift velocity depends on the plasma temperature heating and doesn't depend on plasma density.展开更多

Based on this, a new model of Lagrangian form is constructed. Relative to the Gerstner model, its improvement is reflected in the horizontal motion which includes an explicit drift term. On the one hand, the depth-decay factor for the new drift accords well with that of the particle’s horizontal velocity. It is more rational than that of Stokes drift. On the other hand, the new formula needs no Taylor expansion as for Stokes drift and is applicable for the waves with big slopes. In addition, the new formula can also yield a more rational magnitude for the surface drift than that of Stokes.展开更多

The conditions and fire phenomena occurring were described. The analysis was based upon experimental data from model-scale fire experiments. A fire involving several fuel items may lead to flames tilted horizontally and filling up the entire cross section, leading to earlier ignition, higher fire growth rates, higher fire spread rate and severe fire behaviour. Longer flame lengths will also result due to decreased air entrainment. A correlation for the continuous flame length was proposed. The results of the analysis will help identifying and preventing potentially dangerous fire situations with several large combustible items distributed along a mine drift.展开更多

Longer flame lengths will also result due to decreased air entrainment. A correlation for the continuous flame length was proposed. The results of the analysis will help identifying and preventing potentially dangerous fire situations with several large combustible items distributed along a mine drift.
文摘The progress of the GAG gas flow in a conveyor drift is investigated. The output of a calculation model is evaluated and compared with experimental results from full-scale inertisation experiments.Expressions presenting the fastest and most extensive condensation of water resulted in well fitted arrival times of the GAG gas front.A common denominator for the two sets of expressions is that the type of flow is considered and thus better fitted to the actual flow situation. The model was further refined to include the surface roughness factor in the condensation calculations, which resulted in time lengths even closer to the measured time length. The measured rapid temperature increase at certain positions along the conveyor drift was found to fit well with the calculated GAG gas front arrival at the corresponding positions. The magnitude of the GAG flow was found to have a large impact on the arrival time of the GAG gas front.Knowing and understanding the GAG gas behaviour would increase the likelihood of successful inertisation of all or part of a mine.
