A range of experimental investigations were carried out by varying amount of added particles(0-2%), circulation flow rate(2.15-5.16 m^3/h) and heat flux(8-16 kW/m^2). The comparison of heat transfer performance in different vertical heights of the horizontal bed was also discussed. Results reveal that the glass bead particle can enhance heat transfer compared with vapor-liquid two-phase flow for all beds. At a low heat flux(q = 8 kW/m), the heat-transfer-enhancing factor of the horizontal bed is obviously greater than those of the up-flow and down-flow beds. With the increase in the amount of added particles, the heat-transfer-enhancing factors of the up-flow and down-flow beds increase, whereas that of the horizontal bed initially increases and then decreases. However, at a high heat flux(q=16 kW/m), the heat-transfer-enhancing factors of the three beds show an increasing tendency with the increase in the amount of added particles and become closer than those at a low heat flux. For all beds, the heat-transfer-enhancing factor generally increases with the circulation flow rate but decreases with the increase in heat flux.展开更多

However, coast-down models once used are not suitable for designing ultra-large canned motor pumps with flywheels, in which case rotor's fluid resistance of canned motor is modeled by an empirical constant. When the size of canned motor increases, the error of empirical relationship becomes remarkable. In thrall to material's density and strength, flow resistance of coast-down behavior should be dynamically modeled accurately to reduce the demands of materials. In this paper, an improved analytical model is proposed to study barbell-like canned motor's coast-down characteristic based on basic torque behavior researches in Taylor-Couette flow and hydraulic coupler, where bearing's resistance is ignored. This model takes geometric and kinematic parameters into consideration. In addition, the influence of pressure and temperature is coupled into this coast-down model by using Reolands' viscosity relationship.Based on this model, coast-down behavior is studied and parameters sensitivity analysis is conducted from design view point. Parameters sensitivity analysis indicates that the density and distribution of materials have more remarkable influence on coast-down behavior compared with working condition and geometric parameters.展开更多

The variations of the rota- tional speed, flow rate, and head with time are obtained in experiment. Based on the experimental results of the rota- tional speed and flow rate, the additional theoretical heads are quantitatively calculated and analyzed. The experimental results of the rotational speed and flow rate are worked as the boundary conditions to accurately accomplish the nu- merical simulation of the transient flow during shutting down. The experimental results show that the decrease history of the flow rate evidently lags behind that of the rotational speed, while the rotational speed slightly lags behind the head. Theoretical analysis shows that there exists a clear negative head impact phenomenon in the process of stopping. The transient behavior of the centrifugal pump with straight blades mainly comes from the rotation deceleration of im- peller, and has nothing to do with the fluid deceleration. The numerical simulations show that a large area backflow can be seen when the rotational speed decreases to zero due to the flowing inertia. In conclusion, the numerical simulation of the flow field is in good agreement with the internal flow theory of centrifugal pumps.展开更多

In the experiment, it is measured that the temperature profile in the stream-wise direction of a divergent-convergent nozzle through which CO2 in the supercritical pressure condition is blown down into the atmosphere. In the analysis, a one-dimensional model which assumes steady, adiabatic, frictionless, and equilibrium is proposed. In the convergent part of the nozzle the flow is treated as single-phase flow of liquid, whereas in the divergent part the flow is treated as separated two-phase flow with saturated condition. The analytical results indicate that the temperature and the pressure decrease rapidly in the divergent part, and the void fraction increases immediately near the throat. Although this analysis is quite simple, the analytical results can follow the experimental results well within this study.展开更多

The presented pressure depending on the yield criterion can be calibrated with ten experimental data, i.e., the tensile yield stresses at 0°, 45°, and 90°, the compressive yield stresses at 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 75°, and 90° from the rolling direction, and the biaxial tensile yield stress. The corresponding pressure independent plastic potential function can be calibrated with six experimental data, i.e., the tensile R-values at 0°, 15°, 45°, 75°, and 90° from the rolling direction and the tensile biaxial R-value. The downhill simplex method is used to solve these ten and six high nonlinear equations for the yield and plastic potential functions, respectively. The results show that the presented new criterion is appropriate for anisotropic asymmetric metals.展开更多
