The boundary of the upriver wa-tershed of the Hunhe River in the sub-alpine Qingyuan County of eastern Liaoning Province, China was extracted by digital elevation modeling (DEM) data in ArcInfo8.1. Remote sensing image of the corresponding region was applied to help modify its copy according to Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM) image抯 profuse geomorphological structure information. Both the DEM-dependent boundary and modified copy were overlapped with county map and drainage network map to visually check the effects of result. Overlap of county map suggested a nice extraction of the boundary line since the two layers matched precisely, which indicated the DEM-dependent boundary by program was effective and precise. Further upload of drainage network showed discrepancies between the boundary and the drainage network. Altogether, there were three sections of the extraction result that needed to correct. Compared with this extraction boundary, the modified boundary had a better match to the drainage network as well as to the county map. Comprehensive analysis demonstrated that the program extraction has generally fine precision in position and excels the digitized result by hand. The errors of the DEM-dependant extraction are due to the fact that it is difficult for program to recognize sections of complex landform especially altered by human activities, but these errors are discernable and adjustable because the spatial resolution of ETM image is less than that of DEM. This study result proved that application of remote sensing information could help obtain better result when DEM method is used in extraction of watershed boundary.展开更多

Standard methods for DEM creation use only intentionally acquired data sources. Two approaches which employ various types of data sets for DEM production are proposed: (1) Method of weighted sum of different data sources with morphological enhancement that conflates any additional data sources to principal DEM, and (2) DEM updating methods of modeling absolute and relative temporal changes, considering landslides, earthquakes, quarries, watererosion, building and highway constructions, etc. Spatial modeling of environmental variables concerning both approaches for (a) quality control of data sources, considering regions, (b) pre-processing of data sources, and (c) processing of the final DEM, have been applied. The variables are called rate of karst, morphologic roughness (modeled from slope, profile curvature and elevation), characteristic features, rate of forestation, hydrological network, and rate of urbanization. Only the variables evidenced as significant were used in spatial modeling to generate homogeneous regions in spatial modeling a-c. The production process uses different regions to define high quality conflation of data sources to the final DEM. The methodology had been confirmed by case studies. The result is an overall high quality DEM with various well-known parameters.展开更多

It is considered that in forest ecosystems, erosion processes are slow and are weakly reflected in the terrain. However, the situation changes radically if the vegetation cover integrity is violated, which is inevitable with the modern methods of developing northern territories. Furthermore, global changes in average annual temperatures and the occurrence of karst processes may be the reason behind the development of erosion processes. The authors suggest a method for determining territories with a varying occurrence probability of erosional processes, based on digital elevation modelling. The territory of the Pinezhsky Nature Reserve(Arkhangelsk region) was chosen as the test plot. Direct field studies were previously used to detect exogenous geological processes in this territory. The authors were the first to suggest digital elevation modelling as a method that allows determining the potential danger of erosion in karst landscapes of the northern taiga. The geomorphometric studies resulted in the determination of areas with the greatest and lowest occurrence probability of erosion processes in the Pinezhsky Nature Reserve. It was established that the most significant erosion type was linear erosion, represented by incised river valleys and karst ravines. Sheet erosion is less significant and occurs as sinkholes, local declines, and chasms over the valleys of subterranean rivers.展开更多

文摘The human digital twin(HDT)emerges as a promising human-centric technology in Industry 5.0,but challenges remain in human modeling and simulation.Digital human modeling(DHM)provides solutions for modeling and simulating human physical and cognitive aspects to support ergonomic analysis. However,it has limitations in real-time data usage, personalized services, and timely interaction. The emerging HDT concept offers new possibilities by integrating multi-source data and artificial intelligence for continuous monitoring and assessment.Hence, this paper reviews the evolution from DHM to HDT and proposes a unified HDT framework from a human factors perspective. The framework comprises the physical twin, the virtual twin, and the linkage between these two.The virtual twin integrates human modeling and AI engines to enable model-data-hybrid-enabled simulation.HDT can potentially upgrade traditional ergonomic methods to intelligent services through real-time analysis, timely feedback, and bidirectional interactions. Finally, the future perspectives of HDT for industrial applications as well as technical and social challenges are discussed. In general, this study outlines a human factors perspective on HDT for the first time, which is useful for cross-disciplinary research and human factors innovation to enhance the development of HDT in industry.
文摘This paper investigates the differences that result from applying different approaches to uncertainty modeling and reports an experimental examining error estimation and propagation in elevation and slope, with the latter derived from the former. It is confirmed that significant differences exist between uncertainty descriptors, and propagation of uncertainty to end products is immensely affected by the specification of source uncertainty.
文摘Availability of digital elevation models (DEMs) of a high quality is becoming more and more important in spatial studies. The result is an overall high quality DEM with various well-known parameters.

文摘This paper considers the problems of the potential development of erosion processes in the natural landscapes of northern taiga in the Russian plain. Sheet erosion is less significant and occurs as sinkholes, local declines, and chasms over the valleys of subterranean rivers.

文摘Digital Elevation Models(DEMs)play a crucial role in civil and environmental applications, such as hydrologic and geologic analyses, hazard monitoring, natural resources exploration, etc.Generally,DEMs can be generated from various data sources, such as ground surveys, photogrammetric stereo methods, satellite images, laser scanning, and digitized contour lines.Compared with other data sources, contour lines are still the cheapest and more common data source becausethey cover all areas,at different scales,in most countries.Although there are different algorithms and technologies for interpolation in between contour lines,DEMs extracted solely from contours still suffer from poor terrain quality representation, which in turn negatively affects the quality of analytical applications results. In this paper,an approach for improving the digital terrain modeling based on contour line densification and Delaunay triangulation is presented to acquire a more suitable DEM for hydrographic modeling and its applications. The proposed methodology was tested using a variety of terrain patterns in terms of intensity:hilly, undulated, and plain(1:25,000 topographic map,5 m contour interval). The precision of the extracted GRID model increases as the number of added contours increases.Adding four contour lines, the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)of examining points were 0.26 m,0.29 m,and 0.05 m for hilly, undulated, and plain samples, respectively, and the Mean Absolute Error(MAE)were 0.50 m,0.48 m,and 0.17 m.The convergence probabilities between extracted and original flow lines for the same regions were 96.91%,94.93%,and 84.03%.Applying the methodology, experimental results indicate that the developed approach provides a significant advantage in terrain modeling enhancement, generates DEMs smoothly and effectively from contours, mitigates problems and reduces uncertainties.

文摘Methods of digital human modeling have been developed and utilized to reflect human shape features. However, most of published works focused on dynamic visualization or fashion design, instead of high-accuracy modeling, which was strongly demanded by medical or rehabilitation scenarios.Prior to a high-accuracy modeling of human legs based on non-uniform rational B-splines(NURBS),the method of extracting the required quasi-grid network of feature points for human legs is presented in this work.Given the 3 D scanned human body, the leg is firstly segmented and put in standardized position. Then re-sampling of the leg is conducted via a set of equidistant cross sections.Through analysis of leg circumferences and circumferential curvature, the characteristic sections of the leg as well as the characteristic points on the sections are then identified according to the human anatomy and shape features. The obtained collection can be arranged to form a grid of data points for knots calculation and high-accuracy shape reconstruction in future work.

文摘Geomorphometric modeling and mapping of Antarctic oases are promising for obtaining new quantitative knowledge about the topography of these unique landscapes and for the further use of morphometric information in Antarctic research.Within the framework of a project to create a thematic physical-geographical scientific reference geomorphometric atlas of ice-free areas of Antarctica,we performed geomorphometric modeling and mapping of the Bunger Hills(Knox Coast,Wilkes Land,East Antarctica),one of the largest Antarctic oases.By processing a fragment of the Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica(REMA)covering the Bunger Hills and adjacent glaciers,we created, for the first time,a series of 37 medium-to large-scale maps of nine of the most scientifically important morphometric variables(i.e.,slope gradient, slope aspect, vertical curvature, horizontal curvature, maximal curvature, minimal curvature, catchment area, topographic wetness index, and stream power index). The morphometric maps describe the topography of the Bunger Hills in a quantitative, rigorous, and reproducible manner.New morphometric data can be useful for further geological, geomorphological, glaciological, ecological, and hydrological studies of this Antarctic oasis.

文摘Geared-rotor systems are critical components in mechanical applications, and their performance can be severely affected by faults, such as profile errors, wear, pitting, spalling, flaking, and cracks.Profile errors in gear teeth are inevitable in manufacturing and subsequently accumulate during operations. This work aims to predict the status of gear profile deviations based on gear dynamics response using the digital model of an experimental rig setup. The digital model comprises detailed CAD models and has been validated against the expected physical behavior using commercial finite element analysis software. The different profile deviations are then modeled using gear charts, and the dynamic response is captured through simulations. The various features are then obtained by signal processing, and various ML models are then evaluated to predict the fault/no-fault condition for the gear. The best performance is achieved by an artificial neural network with a prediction accuracy of 97.5%,which concludes a strong influence on the dynamics of the gear rotor system due to profile deviations.

文摘Analyzing coral reef topography is critical for understanding both the formation mechanisms of coral reefs and coral spatial distribution patterns. However, most topographic studies have focused on small-scale or localized survey sites, and investigations of reef macro-topography patterns and their relationship with coral distribution are scant. To address this gap,we conducted a comprehensive investigation of macro-topographic patterns across 12 coral reefs covering 607 km2 in the Xisha Islands,South China Sea.Using digital elevation models constructed from satellite bathymetric data with 16 m resolution,we analyzed spatial variations of seven topographic indices at the reef, geomorphic zone, and reef slope orientation levels in shallow waters.Field surveys were integrated with topographic indices to interpret and model coral distribution patterns. Our results revealed significant topographic heterogeneity, particularly in reef slopes and lagoon patch reefs.Reef slopes ranged from 0°to 33°,with rugosity values between 1.00 and 1.19.The steepness of reef slopes varied by orientation, being steepest in the west, southwest, and south, while the consistency of slope gradients was highest in the south, east, and northeast.Furthermore,stress-tolerant coral cover on reef slopes was effectively predicted by the factors of topographic indices, water depth, and slope aspect.Additionally, the topographic changes in reef flats and shallow lagoons were minimal. These findings advance our understanding of coral reef formation mechanisms in the Indo-Pacific region and provide a theoretical foundation for the conservation and restoration of coral reef ecosystems.

文摘To address the shortage of characterization scale of field outcrops,we used the characteristics of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)oblique photography with a wide field of view and a high degree of quantification for image acquisition, data processing, and geological interpretation of the outcrops of the Shaximiao Formation in the Sichuan Basin. We established a 3D digital outcrop model(DOM),which combines the advantages of visualization and digitization the 3D DOM to interpret the characteristics of typical channel sand bodies.Within the study area,we have identified three types of channel deposition:composite channel deposition, crevasse channel deposition, and abandoned channel deposition.Among these, the composite channel deposition was mainly sandstone, the bottom contains conglomerate, with large cross-bedding,and the maximum thickness of the single sand body was 1.96 m.The crevasse channel deposition was mainly fine sandstone and siltstone, with massive bedding and small cross-bedding,and the maximum thickness of the single sand body was 0.64 m.The abandoned channel deposition dominated by mudstone with thin sandstone, the sandstone was mainly lenticular in section, and the maximum thickness of the single sand body was 0.28 m.We identified the depositional model of the studied region, which is dominated by braided river deposition, based on the growth size and correspondence of the sand bodies. The research provides a comparative foundation for the detailed characterisation of the underground reservoir sands found in the Jurassic Shaximiao Formation in the Sichuan Basin. It also serves as a reference for the effective study of UAV oblique photography technology in the field.
