The coordinated development of industrial digitalization and digital industrialization has propelled the establishment of a modern industrial system and the advancement of new industrialization.Industrial digitalization enhances the fundamental capabilities of traditional industries through the application of digital technology,thereby fostering the emergence of a new technology-economy paradigm within these industries.This process expedites the integration of the digital economy with traditional industries,enabling the augmentation of basic industrial capabilities and the modernization of the industrial chain in the context of new industrialization.Digital industrialization considers data as a novel factor in production.Through innovation,industrialization,and commercialization of digital technologies,it gives rise to emerging industries,formats,and models.Ultimately,this leads to the formation of the digital industrial chain and industrial clusters.To drive new industrialization,it is important to prioritize the real economy and promote the coordinated development of industrial digitalization and digital industrialization through mutually beneficial interaction,integration,and balanced models. 展开更多

Dual impact of digitalization on the carbon emissions of Yangtze River Delta urban agglomerations in China:A spatiotemporal perspective

Digital transformation,as a recent trend in socioeconomic development,is considered as a critical pathway for urban carbon reduction because of its potential to increase productivity and energy efficiency.However,few studies have explored the relationship between urban digitalization and carbon emissions(CE).Therefore,this study systematically analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution and interaction mechanism between digitalization and CE in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)urban agglomerations of China during 2006-2020 based on a multidimensional indicator system,including digitalization industry level,digitalization application level,and urban green digitalization willingness.The findings revealed that both digitalization and CE in the YRD exhibit a significant and synchronously evolving“core-periphery”spatial pattern.Core cities generated substantial positive spillover effect on periphery cities through technology diffusion and policy demonstration,advancing both regional digitalization and the collaborative governance of CE.However,digitalization had dual impact on CE.On the one hand,it promoted the reduction of CE by enhancing energy efficiency,optimizing industrial structures,and promoting the application of green technologies.On the other hand,the expansion of digital infrastructure introduced a potential risk of increased energy consumption.Therefore,targeted policy recommendations are proposed to facilitate the coordination of environmental sustainability and digitalization in the YRD.This study provides empirical support and policy insights for advancing the coordinated development of regional digital transformation and green low-carbon initiatives. 展开更多

The Impact of Establishing Pilot Free Trade Zones on Integration Into the Digital Global Value Chain

This study utilizes panel data from 293 Chinese cities at the prefecture level or above,spanning from 2013 to 2022,to empirically examine the net effects and underlying mechanisms of establishing pilot free trade zones(FTZs)on integration into the digital global value chain(DGVC).The results demonstrate that the establishment of pilot FTZs positively promotes integration into the DGVC and generates a spatial spillover effect.Compared to coastal areas and small-and medium-sized cities,pilot FTZs have a more significant impact on the integration of inland regions and large cities into the DGVC.Mechanism tests reveal that pilot FTZs drive integration into the DGVC primarily by promoting digital industry agglomeration and enhancing the technological content of exports.Furthermore,bilateral foreign direct investment and digital trade rules positively amplify the impact of pilot FTZs on integration into the DGVC.Therefore,this study recommends comprehensively deepening the development of pilot FTZs,consistently enhancing the technological content of exports,and proactively establishing a sound digital trade regulatory framework.These recommendations offer valuable insights for DGVC integration and the construction of a high-standard free trade network. 展开更多

The prevalence of mental health problems in both Malaysian and global workplaces has significantly increased due to the presence of the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)pandemic,globalization,technology advancement in Industry 4.0,and other contributing factors.The pervasiveness of the issue poses a huge challenge to improving the occupational safety and health(OSH)of workers in various industries,especially in the digital industry.The emergence of the innovative industry is evident mainly due to the rapid development of Industry 4.0 and the rele-vant demands of multiple businesses in the digital transformation.Nonetheless,limited studies and academic dis-cussions were conducted on the OSH topic of digital employees.Hence,the current study serves tofill the existing gap and provide academic contributions by scrutinising the perceptions of digital workers regarding their work-place well-being,mental health literacy,and the impression of employing e-mental health.The objectives of this study are:1)To examine the mental health literacy and workplace wellness of digital workers,2)to explore the e-mental health usage intention and actual e-mental health utilization,and 3)to identify digital workers’feedback on e-mental health.In the current context,e-mental health focuses on three dimensions,namely,1)“health in our hand(HIOH)”,2)“interacting for health(IFH)”,and 3)“data enabling health(DEH)”.The present study employed an online cross-sectional survey and received 326 digital workers’completed responses.Variables,such as“mental health literacy(MHL)”,“workplace wellness(WW)”,and e-mental health intention and usage were explicated by analysing the data through descriptive statistics.The study results indicated a moderate to a high level of the MHL and the WW.More than half of the workers possessed a high intention level to employ e-mental health,with the HIOH dimension being the most prevalent domain.Nevertheless,the actual e-mental health usage was very low,owing to the online resources being a new concept amongst digital employees.Numerous confounding factors also existed in affecting the low usage,such as privacy concerns,data security levels,and health verification issues.In addition,the mental health issue has not been openly and widely discussed in Malay-sian workplaces due to stigmatisation.As such,the currentfindings could provide additional insights into the OSH literature;it could serve as a guideline for the OSH decision-makers,employers,and eHealth developers when establishing a feasible framework for the practical adoption of e-mental health services by digital workers. 展开更多

Mechanisms of digital economy development driving CO_(2) emission evolution:empirical evidence from China

Against the background of the booming expansion of the global digital economy and increasing emphasis on reducing CO_(2)emissions,this study from the perspective of the transformation of the digital economy applies the generalized Divisia index method to measure the contribution of the driving factors to CO_(2)emissions in China.From 2007 to 2022,the country’s CO_(2)emissions increased cumulatively,with a change rate of 80.85%.Energy consumption and CO_(2)emissions factor became the main drivers contributing to CO_(2)emissions,with contribution rates of 40.23%and 50.43%,respectively.Meanwhile,the digital economy’s carbon intensity made a negative contribution to CO_(2)emissions,with a contribution rate of-9.01%,which shows that the expansion of the digital economy is advantageous for lowering CO_(2)emissions,and this is also verified in the later analysis.In addition,the amount of CO_(2)emissions changes varies during different periods such as the 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans,which is inseparable from realistic factors such as the stage of the digital economy development and the strength of policy support.This study puts forward appropriate policy recommendations,such as vigorously enhancing digital industrialization,continuously enhancing the degree of industrial digitization,and enhancing investment in the field of digital economy. 展开更多

Digital twins(DTs)have shown promise in industrial automation by facilitating seamless fusion between virtual and physical spaces,thereby enhancing operational efficiency.However,existing DTs are predominantly customized imple-mentations,requiring advanced expertise and significant resources,which hinders their broader application.Here,we pro-pose a physics-informed neuromorphic learning framework,a computationally efficient approach based on the brain-inspired structural representation.This physics-guided representation,inferred and integrated through prior cross-modal structural knowledge,provides a scalable foundation for DT construction with brain-like generalization capabilities and ultra-low com-putational complexity.We demonstrate its effectiveness across multiple industrial scenarios,attaining accuracy comparable to current DT modeling techniques while reducing computational latency to less than 1/30.This framework shifts the paradigm from complex,customized DTs to a simplified,unified solution,potentially saving considerable human and computational re-sources.By facilitating the practical integration of DTs into industrial workflows,our method marks a substantial advancement in accelerating industrial transformation. 展开更多

The digitalization of industry has a significant impact on the low-carbon transformation and development in China,although the impact varies in different economic regions.Exploring the impact mechanism and path is beneficial for promoting the progress of China’s low-carbon economy.Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2021,an indicator system was constructed to measure the comprehensive index of industrial digitalization and carbon emission intensity.A threshold regression model was used to explore the impact of industrial digitalization on regional carbon emission intensity from the perspectives of government intervention and regional economic development level.The results show that the digitalization of industries,which has been unequal in various regions of China,can significantly suppress the regional carbon emission intensity and promote the development of the low-carbon economy.Furthermore,the threshold model shows that the promoting effect of industrial digitalization on low-carbon economy development will be enhanced as the degree of government intervention increases;and the lower the level of regional economic development,the more obvious the promotional effect of industrial digitalization on the low-carbon economy.The findings of this study indicate that the uneven development level of digital industrialization hinders the low-carbon economy.In regions with different levels of economic development,the low-carbon effects of industrial digitalization vary significantly.Therefore,governments should strengthen the policy guidance of industry digitalization based on regional economic development status to enhance the promotional effect of industrial digitalization on the low-carbon economy. 展开更多

In recent years,the global booming of the digital economy has become a booster for China's high-quality development.In the digital economy era,the digital upgrading of the industrial structure has become obvious.Based on a grey relational entropy model and dissipative structure theory,our empirical study reveals that the impact of the digital economy on the industrial structure varies over time.Since2013,the digital economy has become an engine for China's continuous industrial structure upgrading.By comparing the influence of the development of digital industrialization and the industrial digitization on industrial structure upgrading,we find that the former has a foundational leading role in the upgrading of the industrial structure,but the latter has a stronger impact.Therefore,the digital economy is an important driving force being able to lead the future upgrading of the industrial structure.China should rapidly promote the construction of new digital infrastructure and implement strategic spatial layouts for the development of digital industrialization while concurrently accelerating the industrial digitization.This will enable China's economy to achieve higher-quality,more efficient and more secure development in the postepidemic era.It is also an effective means for accelerating the development of a modern industrial system and will promote the upgrading of the economy. 展开更多

Maritime transport is the backbone of international trade and globalization.Maritime transport research can be roughly divided into two categories,namely the shipping side and the port side.Most of the classic approaches adopted to address practical problems in these research topics are based on long-term observations and expert knowledge,while few of them are based on historical data accumulated from practice.In recent years,emerging approaches,which we refer to as machine learning and deep learning techniques in this essay,have been receiving a wider attention to solve practical problems.As a relatively conservative industry,there are some initial trials of applying the emerging approaches to solve practical problems in the maritime sector.The objective of this essay is to review the application of emerging approaches to maritime transport research.The main research topics in maritime transport and classic methods developed to solve them are first presented.The introduction of emerging approaches and their suitability to be applied in maritime transport research is then discussed.Related existing studies are then reviewed according to problem settings,main data sources,and emerging approaches adopted.Challenges and solutions in the process are also discussed from the perspectives of data,model,users,and targets.Finally,promising future research directions are identified.This essay is the first to give a comprehensive review of existing studies on developing machine learning and deep learning models together with popular data sources used to address practical problems in maritime transport. 展开更多
