Data-Model Fusion Methods and Applications Toward Smart Manufacturing and Digital Engineering

As pivotal supporting technologies for smart manufacturing and digital engineering,model-based and data-driven methods have been widely applied in many industrial fields,such as product design,process monitoring,and smart maintenance.While promising,both methods have issues that need to be addressed.For example,model-based methods are limited by low computational accuracy and a high computational burden,and data-driven methods always suffer from poor interpretability and redundant features.To address these issues,the concept of data-model fusion(DMF)emerges as a promising solution.DMF involves integrating model-based methods with data-driven methods by incorporating big data into model-based methods or embedding relevant domain knowledge into data-driven methods.Despite growing efforts in the field of DMF,a unanimous definition of DMF remains elusive,and a general framework of DMF has been rarely discussed.This paper aims to address this gap by providing a thorough overview and categorization of both data-driven methods and model-based methods.Subsequently,this paper also presents the definition and categorization of DMF and discusses the general framework of DMF.Moreover,the primary seven applications of DMF are reviewed within the context of smart manufacturing and digital engineering.Finally,this paper directs the future directions of DMF. 展开更多

Aircraft collaboration design is based on a unified set of schemas containing data and model representations and interfaces across disciplines.The aircraft design schema is a central data model that specifies the paradigm for the representation of a full lifecycle model of aircraft design.The construction of the schema currently lacks theoretical guidance.This paper designs a novel methodology to construct the aircraft design schema,a fully functional,logical,and selfconsistent methodology.The methodology defines a schema matrix that includes implementation strategies,principles,processes,meta-object facility,views,scenarios,and products.The aircraft conceptual design schema is constructed according to the methodology,which is a hands-on approach to help understand the concept and implementation.The features of the methodology are analyzed,and the methodology and the aircraft conceptual design schema are presented to address the pain points of multiple solution trade-offs,multiple iterations,and multidisciplinary coupling in aircraft conceptual collaboration design. 展开更多

The manufacturing industry today due to worldwide competition is focused on shorter development cycle. In this situation, computer aided education (CAE) technology as a tool for simultaneous achievement of quality, cost and delivery (QCD) plays an important role. The hardware-software environment surrounding CAE has evolved. Though technological problems have been understood and general solutions have been derived and reflected in the CAE analysis software, research findings that boost the credibility of CAE have still not been incorporated fully enough into the development of design process. The real technical mechanism issue is not precisely capture. Therefore, it is important to clarify the real cause in CAE results through CAE simulation in order to assure product reliability and assurance. It is the aim of this study to realize the prediction of design analysis process through understanding of unclear technical mechanism in abnormal occurrences with the utilization of CAE simulation. In other words, it is the aim of this study to focus on issue in automotive transaxle oil seal leakage to understand, grasp, and visualize the main cause through usage of CAE analysis process. It is understood that the point of contact and pump volume was related and this could contribute towards seals quality design. Plus, the utilization of CAE analysis in prediction phase to realized design development is also possible 展开更多

This paper is focused on a higher-level report of a new generation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technologies. Starting from the structural scalability of civil tiltrotors, design strategy and requirements for UAVs, and advanced composite materials, the increased speed and productivity requirements for tiltrotors have spawned several investigations associated with proprotor aero elastic stability augmentation and aerodynamic performance enhancements. The research emphasized the Large Civil Tilt Rotor as the configuration with the best potential to meet the technology goals, and the design, including the challenges of the Large Civil Tilt Rotor (LCTR). The design presented was economically competitive, with the potential for substantial impact on the air transportation system. The research includes some manufacturers of helicopters, drones and tiltrotors carrying out design studies and production of prototypes, as well as research projects aimed at designing, manufacturing, qualifying, and flight-testing the new wing of the Next-Generation Civil Tiltrotor Technology Demonstrator. Promises of Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft, UAVs, Digitalization of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and the “U-space” concept are discussed in the paper. The eight SUMP principles and possibilities of future advancements are emphasized. 展开更多
