Incre...USA nuclear waste management program has stalled due to its continued insistence upon using Yucca Mountain for its disposal of DOE (Department of Energy) and commercial power plants NSF (nuclear spent fuel). Increased flexibility and significant changes in DOE program are proposed. They include a private waste company to manage it; the construction and operation of ICS (interim centralized storage) facilities for NSF; the search for an AGR (alternate geological repository); the use of a different methodology involving key local and state participants; a new "as safe as practical" strategy with defined benefits to the involved locations and states. Assured removal of NSF from ICS and providing limited Price Anderson indemnity for the program will enhance its acceptance. Minimum politics, regular information meetings, compromises, good cost projections and meeting schedules will be necessary to increase the chances of the proposed nuclear waste management program.展开更多

The subjects under study involve 106 non-English majors from Hohai...This paper, from the educational and psychological point of view, explores EFL college students' language learning strategies in the Chinese context. The subjects under study involve 106 non-English majors from Hohai University at its Changzhou Campus. The approach is used for the research through two questionnaires to investigate the learners' language learning strategies. In the study, it is found that students use compensation strategies most frequently, while metacognitive strategies less and social strategies the least. Findings of the present study also indicate that the different strategies are respectively emphasized for the male and female students, students of arts and science and engineering.展开更多

The dung beetle optimizer(DBO)is a metaheuristic algorithm with fast convergence and powerful search capabilities,which has shown excellent performance in solving various optimization problems.However,it suffers from ...The dung beetle optimizer(DBO)is a metaheuristic algorithm with fast convergence and powerful search capabilities,which has shown excellent performance in solving various optimization problems.However,it suffers from the problems of easily falling into local optimal solutions and poor convergence accuracy when dealing with large-scale complex optimization problems.Therefore,we propose an adaptive DBO(ADBO)based on an elastic annealing mechanism to address these issues.First,the convergence factor is adjusted in a nonlinear decreasing manner to balance the requirements of global exploration and local exploitation,thus improving the convergence speed and search quality.Second,a greedy difference optimization strategy is introduced to increase population diversity,improve the global search capability,and avoid premature convergence.Finally,the elastic annealing mechanism is used to perturb the randomly selected individuals,helping the algorithm escape local optima and thereby improve solution quality and algorithm stability.The experimental results on the CEC 2017 and CEC 2022 benchmark function sets and MCNC benchmark circuits verify the effectiveness,superiority,and universality of ADBO.展开更多
