Green apple targets are difficult to identify for having similar color with backgrounds such as leaves.The primary goal of this study was to detect green apples in natural scenes by applying saliency detection and Gau...Green apple targets are difficult to identify for having similar color with backgrounds such as leaves.The primary goal of this study was to detect green apples in natural scenes by applying saliency detection and Gaussian curve fitting algorithm.Firstly,the image was represented as a close-loop graph with superpixels as nodes.These nodes were ranked based on the similarity to background and foreground queries to generate the final saliency map.Secondly,Gaussian curve fitting was carried out to fit the V-component in YUV color space in salient areas,and a threshold was selected to binarize the image.To verify the validity of the proposed algorithm,55 images were selected and compared with the common used image segmentation algorithms such as k-means clustering algorithm and FCM(Fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm).Four parameters including recognition ratio,FPR(false positive rate),FNR(false negative rate)and FDR(false detection rate)were used to evaluate the results,which were 91.84%,1.36%,8.16%and 4.22%,respectively.The results indicated that it was effective and feasible to apply this method to the detection of green apples in nature scenes.展开更多

We are not just satisfied with analyzing what kinds of eleme...With the development of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), increasing numbers of researchers have begun to focus on problems of the application. We are not just satisfied with analyzing what kinds of elements are in the samples but are also eager to accomplish quantitative detection with LIBS. There are several means to improve the limit of detection and stability, which are important to quantitative detection, especially of trace elements, increasing the laser energy and the resolution of spectrometer, using dual pulse setup, vacuuming the ablation environment etc. All of these methods are about to update the hardware system, which is effective but expensive. So we establish the following spectrum data processing methods to improve the trace elements analysis in this paper: spectrum sifting, noise filtering, and peak fitting. There are small algorithms in these three method groups, which we will introduce in detail. Finally, we discuss how these methods affect the results of trace elements detection in an experiment to analyze the lead content in Chinese cabbage.展开更多

Approximation methods are used in the analysis and prediction of data, especially laboratory data, in engineering projects. These methods are usually linear and are obtained by least-square-error approaches. There are...Approximation methods are used in the analysis and prediction of data, especially laboratory data, in engineering projects. These methods are usually linear and are obtained by least-square-error approaches. There are many problems in which linear models cannot be applied. Because of that there are logarithmic, exponential and polynomial curve-fitting models. These nonlinear models have a limited application in engineering problems. The variation of most data is such that the nonlinearity cannot be approximated by the above approaches. These methods are also not applicable when there is a large amount of data. For these reasons, a method of piecewise cubic spline approximation has been developed. The model presented here is capable of following the local nonuniformity of data in order to obtain a good fit of a curve to the data. There is C1 continuity at the limits of the piecewise elements. The model is tested and examined with four problems here. The results show that the model can approximate highly nonlinear data efficiently.展开更多
